If you can manage to beat Death Metal mode, than this achievement should not be an issue. It only took me about an hour to complete the entire game mode. I can't really imagine spending an extra 30 minutes on completing the game.
I don't know of any situation in which it would benefit you to stay in a level and try to farm items or lives.
