How to unlock the Sinner's Bonfire achievement in DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin - Definitive Guide
In the interests of not spoiling anything or revealing any of the game's deadly secrets I won't include any information about the bosses or the areas you have to travel through to reach them. If you want to look up any information on your own, the name of this boss is
For this one you will need to travel from Majula through either the Forest of Fallen Giants or Heide's Tower of Flame and No-Man's Wharf to reach the Lost Bastille.
Once in the Lost Bastille find your way into Sinner's Rise and fight through to the boss. You will find the primal bonfire in the room beyond this boss battle.
Story progression – can’t be missed. At the end of the Lost Bastille you will find Sinners Rise. Head down the elevator and through the watery depths to find a long bridge leading to a boss fight. The Lost Sinner is pretty tough and will do relentless physical attacks, so summoning help is advised (you can summon Lucatiel from the bottom of the elevator if you spoke to her earlier and are human). Only go for single strikes and try and recover as much stamina as you can between her strikes. All her attacks CAN be blocked if you have a good shield and stamina, but only counter when there is an obvious opening. In terms of healing Lifegems leave you FAR less exposed than the Estus Flask. Once she dies you can enter a new area to light the Primal bonfire.
Story related cannot be missed
For this trophy you must make your way to Sinner's Rise just beyond the Lost Bastille and defeat the Lost Sinner and light the primal bonfire behind him. There are two ways to go about this.
Forest of Fallen Giants - Use the crows nest past where you fought the Pursuer to take you straight to the Lost Bastille.
Or
No-Man's Wharf - Go through here, defeat the Flexile Sentry and sail on the ship to the Lost Bastille.
I highly recommend the latter as you can meet and summon Lucatiel in No-Man's Wharf and have her help with the Flexile Sentry boss, contributing towards the Lucatiel trophy. Whichever method you choose, ensure you exhaust Lucatiel's dialogue in the Lost Bastille and summon her for the Lost Sinner battle. This also contributes towards Lucatiel, see the description for more info.
For the Lost Sinner, ensure you light the torches on both sides before entering the fog. This will brighten up the room and allow you to lock on. The Lost Sinner is pretty fast and heavily melee based, it helps a lot to summon Lucatiel and Sellsword Luet in the prison cells to make this fight much easier.
Summoning the phantom Lucatiel from myrrh (the summoning sign near the elevator below) greatly facilitates the battle, because she can tank it very effectively, if a sinner only needs a couple of hits on you, then she needs to pick Lucatiel for a very long time, during which time the sinner can be easily killed.
To make the fight with her easier, you must find a key in the Forgotten Fortress (and NOT in the Tower of the Moon, as in DS2 on pastgen) that will allow you to open 2 side doors in front of the fog to the boss and light the lamps with a torch, which will greatly facilitate the fight with the boss. The key lies on the corpse on the cliff behind the boxes, immediately to the left after the first exit to the street after the third bonfire of the location ("Servants' Quarters").
Also summon two phantoms - Lucatiel and Mercenary Luet (his summoning sign is in one of the chambers on the right above the water, which are near the grate to the bridge to the boss). They will make the battle much easier by distracting the boss.
