How to unlock the It takes more than brawn... achievement in Darkest Dungeon - Definitive Guide

A few weeks in to the game, the Survivalist and Nomad Wagon will unlock. Mine unlocked on week 4 or 5, not sure if it varies.

Go to the Survivalist (a small tent on the cliff on the left side of town) and spend 1750 gold to unlock any camping skill for any hero.

Once The Survivalist Is Unlocked A Few Weeks In (Tent On The Left Of The Hamlet) -
- Teach A Hero A New Skill!

These Skills Are Very Important For Medium And Long Missions, As Having A Safe, Useful Campfire Can Mean The Difference Between Success And Failure!

You can buy camping skills from the survivalist.

  • Go to the survivalist, it’s the tent up the cliff on the left side of town (see locations below).
  • Once at the survivalist your top hero is pre-selected. You can change here by pressing and holding and move with the arrow keys.
  • Select the skill you which to purchase and confirm by pressing (you’ll pay and so lose gold for upgrades).


You can upgrade the survivalist to make it cheaper to learn new camping skills.


If the survivalist is still closed, you'll need to play more quests to unlock it.

The camp skill is acquired in the forester's tent. The tent does not open immediately, but during the course of the story (for me it opened after week 10). Skills, like weapons and armor, can be upgraded after the hero reaches at least the first level of resolve.

Opens earlier than the 10th week. Around 3-4 weeks.

The camp opens in approximately 3-4 weeks. It's simple - acquire the skill you like.
