How to unlock the Untouchable achievement in Dead Space - Definitive Guide

Dead Space: Impossible Difficulty.

Impossible has the same difficulty as hard mode, where you take more damage and the enemies take less, but with a twist. You only have one save file to use (save whenever you like but no multiple saves) and if you die, you have to start from the very beginning (or continue on hard mode but this voids your achievement run). It cannot be started on a New Game Plus. Needless to say, some may struggle with it.

Unlike the original 2008 game, you can start with Impossible difficulty straight away. I would highly recommend NOT doing this, even if you are experienced with Dead Space; instead go through the game on a lower difficulty, familiarise yourself with the alterations the remake has to offer and collect all the other achievements first. Doing so will take anywhere between 2-3 playthoughs and give you a good understanding of the game.

For those of you who are familiar with Dead Space, this is not a Hardcore playthough of DS2 or DS3; it is significantly easier, but not to be underestimated. The guide is designed to cater for everyone, not just those who may find this easier than others.

Visual Guide.

Suit and Weapon Selection.

There are only 67 Power Nodes to find in a playthrough of the game and that is assuming you find them all. You can buy Power Nodes in the store for 10K credits a time, but credits will be needed for ammo and health packs, new suits, and you are not likely to be able to afford extras.

This will limit you to levelling up your Suit, a primary weapon and maybe a second weapon. The Plasma Cutter is the weapon you will start with and you will need to level it up before you find any others to make your playthrough easier. It is the best all round weapon in the game and would recommend you use this as your primary. You can reset your Power Nodes for a weapon at the Bench for 5K credits if you opt to use another.

No matter which weapon(s) you decide to go with, it is essential to locate your weapon’s upgrades. The Plasma Cutter upgrades are found in Chapter 2: Intensive Care - Heat Pack (after destroying the barricade, it is in the Clinic), Chapter 3: Collision Course - Ammo Capacity (it’s available in the store for 11K credits from this point on) and Chapter 8: Search and Rescue - Weighted Blades (in the maintenance room before you take on the Leviathan Remnant). Unfortunately, I have not written a guide for the others.

The game tends to only drop ammo for weapons that are equipped. Therefore, only equip weapons you are using and return the others to the safe.

In the the first chapter, you should find a minimum of 2 Power Nodes. The first upgrade for the Suit is HP and I would recommend using this early on. Otherwise, I would not look to upgrade the Suit until the beginning of Chapter 4. Focus on your primary weapon until this point.

There are enough Power Nodes to max out both your RIG (always keeping up with the new suits) and your primary weapon fully. As stated earlier, the Plasma Cutter will work well for you but if you would like to take a second, I would recommend the Force Gun for enemies like Swarms.

Stasis and Kinesis.

Stasis is great to use in a pinch. Slow an enemy, maybe dismember a limb or two whilst focusing on another. Stasis refills are always available in areas where it is essential and fortunately, this is fairly frequent; so you can refill regularly without having to spend on Stasis packs. Always keep one or two in your inventory for the odd times you may run out.

Kinesis can be used throughout the game but it takes a second to pick up a limb or pole and then aim to fire. Poles become harder to find later in the game and limbs do less damage without Kinesis being further upgraded. It is certainly helpful though to knock an enemy over.

Gameplay.

- You probably already have but if not, configure your controls in the menu, it has Default, DS1, DS2 or Custom. Play with a setup you’re comfortable with.

- Save regularly. Although you only have one save slot, always make use of it. A number of players have mentioned that if you are close to dying or had a bad few minutes, quit the game back to the main menu and reload your save. Also, if you have just been killed and are able to pause the game quick enough, you can also return to the menu and reload your last save, but you’ll have to be very quick. Thank you to everyone who has suggested this in the comments.

- Credit to IzunaDopped for the following tip: DO NOT SAVE DURING AUDIO/VIDEO CALLS OR DURING ANIMATIONS SUCH AS TRANSPORTING THE MARKER. I've seen many streamers so far soft-lock their games doing this, as something about the Frostbite engine really hates saving whilst an animation plays out. To be safe, let everything finish before you save, or you'll regret it as you have one save, and one save only.

Edit - November 2023: Following a new playthrough, I’ve noticed that the main locations where the soft-lock could occur are not accessible during cinematic events. It is still best to be cautious but the risk is likely to be reduced.

- Ignore all unnecessary tasks, including side missions.

- Be thorough and scavenge as many Power Nodes, Credits and items as possible.

- Never bypass a Store. Always maintain a healthy and relevant inventory. Only use your credits for necessary items in the store and sell everything else.

- Never progress from a Store without ensuring you have sufficient medkits and ammo.

- Never use a Bench or Store without knowing the room is clear.

- At around Chapter 5/7, try to ensure you consistently have 3+ medium medkits available (where possible) and around 50+ ammo between Store locations. Double this by Chapter 10. It sounds cautious, but you don’t want to be caught out.

- Try to maintain a surplus of credits so you can restock at any time.

- If your RIG’s HP is yellow or red, get it back to green as soon as possible and do not risk it.

- Don’t be stingy with your ammo. Expending a few extra shots to avoid being hit is much cheaper than having to use a medkit.

- Always reload your weapon. It can sometimes be easy to forget, but it will sting if you’re caught out.

- Always know what’s around you and keep your distance. At various points, a Necromorph will sneak in behind you and if you are grabbed, you can loose a large amount of health.

- Body shots deal little damage, but they will make a Necromorph stumble and buy you a second or two if you feel overwhelmed.

- Always stomp your enemies for loot. Stomp is a bit risky if they are still mobile, but stasis can help you here.

- Don’t rush. Take your time and clear the room. At different points if the game, if you leave the room, a Necromorph you didn’t kill will burst in whilst you’re moving through the next rooms.

- Story tip: when you enter the Leviathan fight in Food Storage at the end of Chapter 6, do not go into Zero-Gravity; this will trigger the battle. Instead, stand on the edge and use Kinesis and collect up all the items floating around. You’ll sell some for credits and give you a surplus on others, especially if you are efficient in sinking the Leviathan into space.

- Credit to IzunaDropped for the following tip: For the Leviathan Remnant fight in Chapter 8, I recommend you do the ADS cannons in this order: Left, Right, Middle. This is to give you the most manoeuvrability when he puts down his spiked biomass mines after the 2nd cannon.

- Credit to IzunaDropped for the following tip: You can skip two phases of the Hive Mind final boss fight by making sure you dismember the two exploders who come at you during the battle, and use a sack on the Hive Mind's core. If you can manage to use both sacks, you skip FOUR phases of the acid spew/tentacle slam.

This achievement is very doable, just take your time and care with it.

There are reports that if you die and continue on with Hard Difficulty, that the achievement unlocks but you do not receive the Burnished Suit or the Hand Canon. I cannot verify these claims at this time and recommend you complete it legitimately.

For anyone who has completed the game on Impossible and is starting the game on New Game Plus with the Hand Canon, it is wicked fun!

Know Your Enemies.

As stated above, weapon choice will be important and the Plasma Cutter can handle almost anything. These include dismembering:

Slashers - your everyday Necromorph and the weakest.

Super Slashers - an upgraded version which normally requires you to dismember all 4 limbs. It has something that resembles a lizard spine on its back and liberating the Captain of his RIG in Chapter 2 is your first encounter with one.

Leapers - these are among the hardest to destroy in the game. They have 2 upper limbs but their lower half resembles a scorpion. Try to keep your distance, particularly from its tail and dispatch it quickly.

Lurkers - the 3 tentacled midgets that fire at you. Keep your distance and dismember a minimum of 2 tentacles to kill it. Shooting the body is a waste of ammo.

Exploders - the only Necromorph in the game that can actually help you out. These have an explosive growth on one arm which they will detonate if they get too close. If you shoot it and another Necromorph is near, it’s 2 for the price of 1. Alternatively, dismember the sack and use it like a red canister.

Infectors - these are the winged Necromorph that turn corpses into Necromorphs. You will encounter them at various points in the game, so be sure to eliminate them quickly before they turn every corpse in the room into a threat (Key points: Chapter 2, releasing the Captains RIG. Chapter 4, switching over the first ADS Canon [run back to the other side of the room]. Chapter 6, between the West and East Grow Chamber. Chapter 7, entering Deck D. Chapter 10, returning to the Crew deck [after Zero-G Basketball]).

Appendages - these are a little differed to the original game. They look like Slashers but have a drooped head and their legs are reinforced with miners armour. The legs are a waste of ammo, so go for the arms.

Twitchers - are very fast and have a built in Stasis module in their chest area (highlighted in blue). Shooting the chest never does any damage, but on these it will explode their Stasis module allowing you to dismember the limbs more easily.

Brutes - you will not encounter many in the game but they are large and charge at you. You have to use Stasis to slow them down, run behind them and destroy their weak spots. Brutes drop Power Nodes on death, so make sure you collect them.

You also have the Tentacle that reaches out and grabs you a points in the story, the Leviathan, Leviathan Remnant and the Hive Mind. All of which are easily manageable with the Plasma Cutter.

The enemies below are the 4 that can be dispatched with the Plasma Cutter but are mostly a drain on your ammo. There is quite often a red canister around that can be shot using your Kinesis which will dispatch Swarms and Divider parts easily. Otherwise, the Force Gun is best equipped for your secondary weapon.

Swarms - these are found at various points in the game and they will try to leech onto your back. If you get too many attached to you, it will cause you a problem. There are around 7-10 in a swarm and the Force Gun can clear them all in one shot.

Pregnants - are normal Necromorphs but with a swollen torso. If your shoot the torso in error, it will release swarms. The best thing is to be accurate with your shots and dismember all of its limbs to prevent having to deal with the Swarms.

Dividers - the gangly Necromorphs that break down into heads and other body parts when shot.

Guardians - are attached to the wall and have tentacles which must be shot off to destroy it. It will also fire singular immobile tentacles which will try to shot at you. Do not get close to them for risk of being snagged, but the Force Gun will shoot off many tentacles in one go.

Maybe I'm the only one that it's happened too but impossible achievement popped on hard on a playthough I started on impossible and went down to hard after dying

Just a tip for the nuke room. There's two impalement rods in that room, and two of the exploding enemies. Hit each one with a rod and bingo bango bongo, no more problems.

I am intrigued with some players feedback that DS2 was harder. To be honest, I found DS3 mode harder, mainly because it wasn’t as fun!

I really hate when developers put those "don't die at all" achievements in the game. In the OG game we could use cheats and it wouldn't avoid the achievement, probably can't in this game.

Also in some games, if you delete the data on the xbox when you die, it doesn't reset the game, like with those Ironman acheivements in the gears of war franchise, wonder if anyone can test it out.

Half of you losers here are pathetic little whiners. I Mean seriously, complaining that a difficulty is TOO hard? That it's not fair because you can't handle it? You don't HAVE to play it on the hardest difficulty...you know you better than anyone, get over it already. Stop b*tching because you are too transparent to invest time in a game that is "too hard" for you, and yet you have time to go on message boards and complain about it?

YOU babies are the reason why Resident Evil 3 remake was so bad. RE2 remake was amazing! REAL GAMERS understood how difficult it was to unlock unlimited ammo weapons in the game, but you brats come along and complained and they "dumbed it down" for the RE3 remake and allowed EVERYONE to get unlimited ammo weapons much more easily.

STOP RUINING games for everyone else. If you don't like it, are too much of a wimp, or have invalid opinions about why developers put impossible difficulties and nearly impossible tasks to get unlimited ammo, THEN DON'T PLAY THE GAME. SImple. Or just move on from it.

I know you babies will come back with retorts about why this post is wrong, but they are all irrelevant. If you invest as much time in a game to get said difficult achievements as you do pondering your pathetically written and invalid complaints, then you might actually get somewhere like the rest of us.

Guys, this isn't that bad. Hard was a fair challenge, basically what Normal should have been. 'Impossible' is just hard but you "can't" die.

I think people who are complaining are not playing into the game economy enough. You will always have way too much ammo at all times if you play smart with telekinesis and stomp. That means you should always sell surplus to buy more nodes for upgrades or health packs if you're low on hp. You don't even need to conserve it that much to rack up clips upon clips. No point in storing surplus ammo for later because you'll always have enough. Sell it and buy stuff to make you stronger asap.

RE: Guardians

They die in one hit with the Stasis Prototype upgrade that you get for completing the tissue sample side quest. Simply stasis and forget when you come across one. You can finish the side quest and grab the prototype as early as Chapter 7 or 8.

Just thought I’d point out that the save isn’t deleted until after the death animation, so if you screw up you can just pause the game and return to the main menu to load your last save (or in dire circumstances just turn your power off at the wall).

Just make sure you’re quick about it. After a few seconds the game won’t let you pause to back out. Definitely recommend practicing on a dummy file to get used to it. But yeh it’s really not that difficult when you know that.

Also word of warning to people doing this soon after release. Without spoiling the game, there are times when your waypoint objective is in the alien language. My recommendation: do NOT save when you have this as your objective, but rather wait for it to become English (or whatever language you’re playing with). I unfortunately saved and have soft locked the game during chapter 10 due to a bug where the objective didn’t update.

I'd like to add to this, and would ask this to be added to your solution rather than me steal your thunder:
If you cover vents with kinesis blocks found throughout the chapters, you basically force the game to spawn the necromorphs elsewhere as they cannot break through the vents. I used this when I knew an ambush was coming ahead of time, and when I got the line gun later on it made preparing ambushes much, much easier.

I also advise that if you backtrack and find it filled with necromorphs, reload your save. The intensity director is random and your best case scenario is to get flickering lights or weird whispers instead of enemies.

Regarding loading your save, you can also do this to get the optimal run of a level. As I was testing damage values on Hard, what I would do is save before a fight, then reload if I took a hit or my health went from blue to yellow. This way you can become a master of each encounter, and save stations are so plentiful that you won't really miss much time in doing so. Impossible is the exact same as Hard, you just can't die.

I recommend the Plasma Cutter, the Ripper (to sell its ammo until Chapter 6), then the Line Gun in Ch4, and finally the Force Gun when you attain it in Ch.6. The Force gun not only shreds everything when maxed out, its ammo stacks are worth 6k a piece, which can be a medium medpack when you really need it. The Force gun's alt fire is also far better than stasis at slowing the downed Hunter down.

You can skip two phases of the Hive Mind final boss fight by making sure you dismember the two exploders who come at you during the battle, and use a sack on the Hive Mind's core. If you can manage to use both sacks, you skip FOUR phases of the acid spew/tentacle slam.

If you dont mind cheating, this is not hard at all. You just need to be able to make it chapter 4 and get the second pulse rifle upgrade. Save 12 nodes. Do the infinite money glitch, buy nodes, and upgrade the PC and Ripper and suit as much as you can. Ive been using those two guns and have not come close to dying once. Im almost done

wrt Infectors, I would add to the guide, when you enter an area where Infectors will appear destroy or remove all entact corpses. As an example, entering the crew deck down the sloped passage way, kinesis ALL the corpses into the passage way. Thus when the Infectors arrive they have no corpses to convert.

And Pillars of Eternity is so fu**ed that you have to leave the game and system powered on for the duration of the 100+ hours to complete it. If you shut it off, the system resets achievement progress for nearly all achievements. And That dev said fuck you we're not fixing it. Yet it's still sold on the m$ store
I'm sure there are a couple others but yeah, I keep waiting for the pin to drop on one the hardest difficulty achievements locking up too

I killed the guardians with stasis, dont know if its a glitch or not but hit one with stasis and see if it works for you too save your ammo

i would also suggest never pass up a chance refill stasis for free. also if your low on ammo you can upgrade the cap on a weapon and it will refill for free.

Just want to add that I recommend you do your One Gun playthrough on Impossible. Keep your PC damage as high as you can as quick as you can, and it's actually quite easy. It works through most enemies very quickly, including bosses, and since you're only using one weapon, you will always have a healthy stock of ammo. I made it to the final boss with 13 large medpacks, and 8 full stacks of ammo.

I haven't played the game yet but I saw something helpful on a psnprofiles thread that I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to try out or not. Apparently when you die and get prompted to continue on hard or restart you can choose continue on hard and still get the impossible trophy at the end of the game. Worth looking into if this is a playstation bug or if it carries across all platforms.

Upvoted, but it doesn't have to be this complicated. On the final chapter now with only a plasma cutter and for real only had issues in the beginning. But that was because of resource management and unlucky spawns.

Think you are massively overstating the difficulty and making it sound way more complicated than it is, stick to the plasma cutter and go from save to save, if you feel like you’re going to die just hit start and quit and reload the save, doesn’t seem any punishment doing that game loads on impossible still.

I’ve got through first 4 chapters doing that practically on a no hit run cause even if I take a hit I’m reloading as I think I could do better and don’t want to waste health packs.

Other thing aswell except rooms where you have to fight just statis a enemy and run

Yeee just I myself reccomend impaling a lot more. And early on you can actually sell things. By the time I got to the hive mind I had maxed the force gun, ripper, plasma cutter and suit with 200k to spend. I reccomend the ripper for the sole reason that 1 blade generally can kill any enemy and it stumbles them away. Just make sure to launch it before the blade runs out for some extra damage. I never kept spare ripper ammo just always sold it for a nice juicy amount. I stopped buying nodes around chapter 6, as your suit is tip top and plasma cutter is good to go.

Okey im still messed up in the head, yet overjoyed.

I died during the final marker transport and game was set to hard. Decided to go through the last bit and achievement still unlocked. Not sure how or why but possible 😅

Didnt get handcannon and the suit though

It works in 90% of the cases, but if you get blown up/stand to close to a guardian you get blown to pieces and wont be able to quit out, flatline noice right away and found out the hardways.

But if someone else happends to die towards the end, finish it and hopefully you unlock it even thought you died. I can live without handcannon and skin 😆

Achievement seems to be bugged (in a good way). Popped for me on first playthough on hard. I went with impossible on first playthrough fully expecting to get put down to hard which happened in first chapter lol but it seems to of bugged out and given me the achievement anyway.

Just a heads up. I was working through NG+ Impossible. Paused the game to eat and the game forced an update. It sent me back 4 Chapters because I didn’t save but it may have implications for the Impossible mode if they fixed the glitch people have been talking about.

What "glitch" are you referring to? Haven't read about one myself. I was thinking maybe they fixed the dangling limb chievo to work as intended but since I already have it, I have no way of knowing, other than starting a new game and testing it.

The above is commonly accepted as an exploit now, featuring on PowerPyx's roadmap.

How much easier does it make it, though? I know you can quit out pretty quickly, and auto saves are more convenient but impossible is locked to hard difficulty.

I think what he means is that you can't lower the difficulty once you select impossible to start off with and if you don't die the option is locked. You could lower it after dying and being put down to hard but can't confirm if that works for the exploit. I continued on hard not knowing it was an exploit.

@LIWC that was my plan to avoid restarting. I imagine it's possible the same as PowerPyx's guide for PS5 suggesting to use cloud saves if desired. I was going to test it if I'd had to but fortunately don't need to. DS2 stressed me the fuck out with these kind of achievements. (Still got the final section I've yet to complete but going to attempt again soon). You just need to be careful between switching to playing online/offline.

@OneBgBdArtemis imo keep going with that. It's a reasonable strategy. I went with continuing on hard because I knew I'd go through 2 playthroughs for the NG+ achievements. Was thinking by that time I'd be ready to breeze through an impossible with some precautions.

Just finished this on my first attempt and honestly it was pretty easy, I used the PC all the way till I got the force gun and upgraded that thing shreds everything also it’s secondary fire is amazing for when you get swarmed I had some close calls but once you have enough medkits it’s grand no trouble at all just watch out for the insta kill sections the centerfuge and disarming the nuke gave me some trouble

There is something that is vitally important to keep in mind: If you do die: quickly pause the game, quit to main menu, and Reload your save. The save slot will still have the Impossible difficult listed on it. I found this out the hard way when I got killed by the engine fire section in the Valor ship. I haven’t completed the run yet, but it looks like the save is still good.

UPDATE: this does work. I completed the Impossible play through and got the achievement and rewards. So if you die, quickly pause, return to main menu, reload your save, and you’ll be able to continue.

Just a small tip with the infectors. If you're in the room but before they spawn in, you can stomp all the corpses a few times to mutilate them so much that the infectors can't turn them. For example, in the morgue, before going to get the captain's rig, stomp every body in the room to mush (including the ones on the tables using kinesis to drag them off) and when the infector spawns you won't have to worry about new necros spawning. You only need to kill the captain and the infector itself.

It's only worth it to backtrack specifically for level 3 and master level rooms. Anything level 1 or 2 you'll actually hit backtracking naturally for story reasons.

^ there is absolutely nothing hard about this achievement. Impossible mode is EXACTLY the same difficulty as Hard, just with the caveat if you die then you get bumped down to hard. However. If you're about to die, or even if you die, you can quickly pause and return to the menu with your Impossible save intact. It's easy as hell.

This mode was a joke compared to the original game. Even with plasma cutter only. I think instead of what the mode was, it should've been like a 1 hit kill or hardcore mode with 3 saves like the 2nd game.

This seemed to cheap with the "Get me outta here button" or the "let's finish it on hard and still get the impossible" achieve route.
Solid experience nonetheless.

Don't be so quick to judge then difficulty experience you had compared to others.
I myself started on Impossible and I am faring way better than of my friends who is vastly superior in fps games. It's all a matter of how we each adapt to them.
I personally am growing weary of the stupid retarded hard difficulties. To me, anymore, they're just there so the devs can claim replayability
I overlook this one as it was in the original.
If the game isn't good enough to stand on its own, throwing in a hair shredding difficulty is not going to garner replayability numbers. C'mon man!!

I e played my share of them. Right off the bat if available. Because I don't have time for 4 goddamn playthroughs. Another something I found to help with ammo conservation is you can actually break vents on your own. Didn't even figure that out until multiple playthroughs in, but you can just snack the vents with a melee, and then you can pick up the fan blade and launch it at enemies.

I haven't finished the mode yet, but I have to say, a lot of the tension of upgrading can be removed entirely by exploiting the pulse rifle as a source of money. Basically, wait until you have two upgrades for the pulse rifle then pull 13 nodes off of other stuff and upgrade its capacity. ONE NODE AT A TIME. Every time you upgrade the capacity, empty your rifle via the proximity mines and then return the mines to ammo and pick it up. DO NOT RELOAD. Simply add another capacity node and the gun will fill with ammo from the ether. Using this method you can get 10's of thousands of credits in a few minutes by selling the ammo and it only costs 5,000 to respec the nodes and do it again. The best place I know to do this is the sales kiosk at the hangar tram as there's a bench right through the door that leads to medical and enemies don't spawn in the tram station and rarely spawn in the area with the workbench (though you can hear them down below). I also did this on the bridge, but enemies will fairly often spawn in the corridor with the sales kiosk and for some reason, the smoke effect in that hallway is cumulative, so the longer you're in the area the denser it gets until the hallway is basically opaque. The upshot is, you can fully upgrade as many weapons as you want by doing this and buy whatever health packs or ammo you need, at least until they think of a way to patch it out.

Just completed this, and honestly I think just holding on to the plasma cutter is the way to go. That way you only have one upgrade path to focus on, and there are enough nodes to fully update both the suit (up to level 5) and the plasma cutter in one playthrough. Never had to spend extra credits on ammo, only on health packs. The fully upgraded plasma cutter is good enough for most enemies in the game (other than the swarms, I just deal with them by spamming A and healing afterwards).

The environmental traps felt more dangerous mainly because of the insta-kill, but save scumming and quitting immediately still works, and honestly makes this no different from hard difficulty.

Other than that, I only backtracked a bit for the Premeditated Malpractice side mission to get the prototype stasis that melts enemies so that their limbs were easier to shoot off. Can't say if this was essential, but it saves quite a bit of ammo for the tougher necromorphs that usually take multiple shots to shoot off 1 limb and requires dismembering multiple limbs.

I only died once in my whole playthrough and it was from the rotating lasers you need to stasis. I slowed them, ran through them, and got surprised by the necro that spawns directly ahead. I backed up just a touch too far and they got me. Obviously I paused and quit out because restarting the game because of that would be pointless

Personally I thought this difficulty was the perfect way and done correctly. My opinion of course, for my wants out of a game, so 45 years into my gaming career.

And yes I Am one who complained about difficulty related Achievements. Which is to say I don't appreciate them as I'm waiting for one on some game at some point to Not unlock. Like my myriad of other glitched out chievos, such as get all other achievement achievements. That's My issue that I have with difficulty related achievements. Not the difficulty but the sorry way that glitched achievements are just brushed off anymore.

And I know, I don't HAVE to play the game on the hardest mode not do I HAVE to get the achievement.

I'd just like to see better accountability when it comes to fixing said glitched/ broken achievements.

The funny thing is, when people say "I stopped reading at a certain point," they never actually mean it. And it matters not, because the rest of what I wrote just add ambiance to the first paragraph you claim to have prioritized over the rest of what I wrote. My point was made there.

Let me explain it in simpler terms: Whiners about how difficult something is is like a gentleman I work with. I often claim he is stuck in grade school mentally (even though he is not like that) because of what he says and does, and always says that whatever happens to him is everyone else's fault. He nailed this point home when he told me one day when he had to do homework, he didn't want to complete his spelling work, and asked his parents how to spell the words he needed to complete it. Like normal, caring parents, they proceeded to show him how to sound out the words and such, and he continued to get more and more frustrated and mad at them because they would not give him the answers. To this day, he still hates them for this and can't understand why they would just not give him the answers instead of helping him get to the the answers on his own.

Another example: kids trying to get their student loans expunged. Give me a break...

Stop saying things are too difficult. LIFE is difficult. Get over it and solve your own problems and stop complaining because it's too hard for you. No one cares and it makes the rest of us laugh at you, especially over a video game. laugh

So after attempting this achievement the last couple days I've determined it's not that hard. Just have to keep the basics in mind.. know where you're going to be attacked, and spam exiting out before the death sequence is completed. It works and I haven't restarted on impossible difficulty yet. I'm in chapter 4 already, and have barely any health. I lost most of my health near the beginning when you have to use the claws on the tram in chapter 1. That room was perhaps the most difficult part for me but that has been in. Yes, I've died but that's just because I've been taking chances that don't pay off atm

I recommend doing what I'm doing... use stasis as much as you can and starting swinging with the plasma cutter or stomping. Most of the time you can kill a necromorph with this strategy and I've killed 2 at a time doing this sometimes.

Or use the many, many, many weapons they leave around for you in the game. Explosive canisters, fan vents (knock them out of the wall and kenesis them), necromproh limbs, stasis containers, or spears. Use them every chance you get. As I said I've barely fired my plasma cutter. I've upgraded the damage and capacity on my PC but waited until my clip was emptyEfore before upgrading the capacity (I fired my PC when I knew a bench was coming up otherwise it wasn't used except for swinging so far.)

Another amazing trick i just found out was this... you know the pipes you can kenesis off the wall and throw into enemies? Well not only are they an instant kill for nearly every enemy, but you can reuse them again and again. After pinning a necromorph with one I carry it around and save my game. When you reload the necromorph that was stuck to it is gone but the pipe can be used again.
I've done this several times with only one pipe and only abandoned the pipe after I lost it in space or down a shaft or something. Basically unlimited ammo if you do it right.


As another poster said, I feel the hard-core achievement on Dead Space 2 was far more difficult. This has been a legit breeze so far.

EDIT: Pro Tip: definitely get the weighted blades for your PC AND also the stasis prototype... that thing is amazing! ... It kills the swarms instantly and in chapter 8 when you meet 2 Guardians next to a doorway I shot both of them with stasis and not only did it slow them down but killed them both. ONE SHOT EACH.

So I beat this and got the cheevo last night. I got to the final boss with nearly 350 plasma rounds, 3 dozen stasis packs, 10 extra nodes, about 30 small health packs, 20 medium heal packs, and about 10 large health packs. And I NEVER bought any extra, even the power nodes. I had over $300,000 in credits too. The game literally throws way too much ammo and credits at you.

With that said, the toughest part, as with any impossible difficulty setting, is the beginning. Only because of low ammo and health and armor, but like I said earlier, I was meticulous and stingy with my ammo...I RARELY ever fired my PC unless I had to. I used stasis religiously, and spammed the save station. Other than that I ONLY swung my PC or stomped on enemies to kill them. And once you get the stasis prototype (that electrifies enemies) and the weighted blades, the rest of the game is a breeze.

A couple of other tips: the weighted blades are AMAZING against the Hunter, and once you knock him down most encounters you can simply run into another room and he won't chase you there. For instance, late in the game before you fry him with the shuttle's engines, when you meet him in the poison gas room I waited for him at the exit door (grab the battery for the elevator before shooting the infected bulb that summons him in the first place), knocked him to the floor with my weighted blades, and left the area. He didn't follow me into the next room to battle the 3 necromophs that battle you there.

Also, the Marker slows down everything when you're near it. It's like a giant stasis amplifier. After Dr. Kyne asks you to get to the shuttle before Mercer comes back you battle more necromorphs in the large damaged Atrium area. I simply stood next to the Marker, let the necromophs come to me, then beat them down with the weighted blades as they slowly tried to get back up again. I also did this every chance I got later as you are transporting the Marker through the cargo hold to the pedestal at the end.

One more tip: before the final hive mind fight, when you are moving the Marker onto the pedestal and before you find out about Nicole, you are swarmed by wave after wave of necromorphs, and have to battle the large tentacles as well. I stayed in the left corner (when facing towards the pedestal, the corner to your left), and let all the necromoprhs come to me. Of course you have to blow up 2 of the infected bulbs before you can get to that corner, but this last area was a breeze from there. Stasis, weighted blades, and shoot only when you need to. Even the large tentacles couldn't pound me in that spot.

So don't let the "impossible" word deter you before you even try it. This was far too easy primarily because you can use as many saves as you want. I must have saved 200 times in this run. Finally, the other poster had it correct when they said that Dead Space Hardcore was far more difficult. I would rate this difficulty not even in the same ball park. 100%

Same. Although in my opinion, I think this was made easier by having better controls. The better Series X controller lends itself to being able to play these better. Don't get me wrong, this was sufficiently difficult. In fact I would say any harder and I'd of not enjoyed it but I would instead of viewed it as a chore.
So hopefully if they do do Dead Space 2 remake, I hope they don't get the bright idea like all other devs to turn the difficulty up. That gets aggravating and ceases to be a challenge, just makes me regret playing it in the first place

If you have only just died and are very quick, apparently you can quit out and reload your save, but if you’re too slow, it will be lost. It’s best to recognise when you’re struggling and quit out before you die.

On some games you can do a little trick where you play the game offline, then connect to the internet when you want to make a save. Make your save, exit the game, and load it back up so it goes onto the cloud. Then go back offline and play until you feel comfortable about making your next save. If you mess up, delete your save BEFORE YOU GO ONLINE, go back online, load up your previous save that was made onto the cloud.

Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding how this achievement works.

This is just my own observations on a what is is good guide.

1 - Weapon-wise, I ran Plasma Cutter, Flamethrower, and Pulse Rifle. I did not carry a fourth weapon. The Flamethrower, in my opinion, is the absolute best weapon in the game when you must hold off multiple enemies. Enemies on fire will eventually freeze in place, unable to advance while they panic. Nearly every ambush the game throws at you I survived using kinesis and either the cutter or the rifle until an enemy was in flamethrower range, and then I cooked everything. The final necromorph battle which occurs in the middle of the Hive Mind fight I used exclusively the flamethrower and they never touched me.

2 - I don't think much danger exists in doing the side missions. You won't see much danger backtracking - perhaps two or three enemies, but nothing major. The hunter research mission gets you the prototype stasis module, which definitely helps in the later part of the game. Getting the Master Override access also gets you some weapon upgrades, which might be crucial depending on what weapons you run. The upgrades also get you Nodes, which are useful even if you aren't upgrading the weapon in question. Sometimes you'll get the Ruby Semiconductor - which is worth a Node or a Large Health Pack: also valuable.

3 - Against Guardians - when you initially face them they will extend all their tentacles at once. If you are quick, stasis them and then hit them with a pulse grenade, a thrown explosive, or rush them with the flamethrower. You should be able to get all the tentacles at once before the stasis ends.

4 - Sometimes, you will be ambushed in a room with two levels accessible by elevator. If the elevator works, it is often worth your time to fight the ambush on the catwalks above the room. You can control the area better if they can only come at you from two directions, especially if you're using Fire Walls, Laser Traps, or Pulse Grenades. Fighting on the ground, often with tables and other obstructions, is sometimes messy when you're getting swarmed.

5 - When you know there is going to be an ambush or boss fight, like the Leviathan, and you can see all the loot, COLLECT IT FIRST before triggering the ambush or boss fight. Then go back to a save station and make a save. It will save you lots of time if you have to exit and reload.

I managed to do it legitimately with 0 deaths, not even near deaths.

I used the plasma cutter and the rifle. When i unlocked the force gun, i removed all upgrades from the rifle and used them on the force gun.

I scavenged a lot. I obtained the prototype stasis which is very op. Its a must and easy to obtain. Combines pretty well with plasma cutter and force gun.

At the end, i reseted the upgrades of the force gun and i maxed the pulse rifle and the contact beam.

Use the contact beam for the hive minds weak spots at the start and at the final phase. Use the plasma cutter for the regular enemies after applying stasis to them. Use the rifle's grenade launcher for the 5 spots in the boss's belly.

Watch out for the bug on Chapter 3 where you are refuelling north and south. My game got stuck with the action done but not registered so couldn't progress and with one save I had no way to go back.

To thwart Infectors, stomp on corpses you see until their head comes off, then they can't be transformed.

It might be tedious, but it'll cut down on enemy encounters. Also, it makes the Infector beeline to you instead, so be ready.

I personally find it's well worth going for the Prototype Stasis Module. It requires only small detours of you (once for putting the probe into the reader in medical, once for hearing the report on the bridge, and finally getting the upgrade in hydrophonics). If you do these detours once they become available you will only encounter randomized standard encounters. I'd say it took me 10min altogether. The upgraded stasis halves the amount of shots you need to dismember a limb. Oh, and it will one-shot kill the swarms of little enemies, AND one-shot kill the tentacle monsters that hang on walls if you let them marinate in the stasis for a few seconds.

For anyone that has already played dead space 1-3, even if it was a while ago, I recommend just starting off on impossible mode. I didn't remember any controls but quickly got the hang of everything, you don't have to do an entire play through to get the hang of it.

The reason I recommend starting on impossible mode, is so you don't have that cloud hanging over you the entire time you play, and also so you don't have to play the game 3 times. On my new game+ playthrough, I'll have the hand cannon and I can focus on all the other achievements, I also did all the side missions during my impossible mode run xD. It really isn't that bad. You can quickly press start and quit to menu if you find yourself in a bind, even instant death areas you can press pause pretty quickly and get out of that situation if you end up dying in one of them. The game is significantly easier than the original version imo. I also did my plasma cutter only run on during my impossible mode run, and I also used the force-gun strategy to get a lot of forcegun ammo to sell to have enough credits to upgrade everything in the next playthrough. Yes all these things will handicap you but it's better than playing 3 times, you'll burn out!

Just completed it last night. Very bum twitchy in places. If I can offer any advice it would be not to go beyond level 3 suit - You don't need it. Use kinesis on limbs for projectiles and upgrade plasma/ripper/flamethrower (excellent for 1 alt fire shot wall guys) and the force gun. Where I could, I kited enemies into a group, held them with stasis and then alt fire force gun, plus alt fire flamethrower. Didn't leave a lot standing after that barrage :)

Yes, this remastered version was good, but it paled in comparison to the originaly. I actually returned it after getting all achievements. Impossible mode was fun, but like I mentioned above, I have WAY too much ammo and health by halfway through the game. It's insanely easy to kill most enemies with just knocking them away and stasis. They made that much more powerful than in the original. It's a shame really...probably dumbed it down for the people that can't handle a harder difficulty, just like they did for Resident Evil 3 remake by allowing the rocket launcher to be available after 1 playthrough. Resident Evil 2 remake was too difficult for some people, and they complained, and ruined Resident Evil 3 remake.

While this game was better on Impossible mode than Resident Evil 3 was, it was a let down. Far too easy to get this achievement.

Leaper has a weak point. It’s a „wrist” of his „hand”. I kill them on Hard by TWO shots of Plasma Cutter. Use Stasis and mark on a wrist - you see the results.

One of the things which not many players seem to know, is that the remake incorporates much more intricate enemy designs and as a result there is a new stripper system in addition to the amputation system. This isn't explained in the game to the best of my knowledge so understandable that many people will have missed this.

Obviously the amputation system is the way you cut off limbs just like the original.

However enemies now have added muscle tissue to their bodies and it's not just for graphical details and aesthetics. The muscle tissue actually provides enemies with extra protection, hence why they can seem to tank so much damage at times. If you can strip an enemy of their muscle tissue their bones become exposed and they will take fewer shots to cut off.

Weapons fall under two categories - precision; and stripper. Precision weapons are things like the Plasma Cutter or the Pulse Rifle (primary fire). Stripper weapons are things like the Flamethrower or Force Gun.

Watch closely when you use a Flamethrower or a Force Gun on an enemy. Even a short burst of flames will damage and strip away the muscle tissue. The enemy will look skinnier and the bones will be exposed. If you switch to a precision afterwards you can cut off their limbs in far fewer shots.

If you only use the Plasma Cutter on Impossible mode, while it's doable, you will notice that enemies will take many more shots to kill. and ammo can become short.

But if you go for this hybrid approach and bring along a weapon for stripping muscle tissue, you can conserve ammo and make alot of fights easier.

Also just to add that the Plasma Cutter has an upgrade which applies burn damage over time and this helps to strip muscle tissue too. Also the Stasis Module has an upgrade from one of the side quests which also applies additional strip damage to the stasis effects too.

Is this something that can be confirmed? I have played this game and the original and have NEVER heard of this being more than an aesthetic affect. The difference is so minute it's not even worth mentioning unless it is confirmed.

As I stated in my walkthrough, it is far, far simpler to go through the game with just the plasma cutter (and that way you can knock off several achievements at the same time)...and use the swing and stomp attacks. They updated these 2 attacks so that they are ridiculously powerful in this version of the game. I literally sold plasma ammo in my plasma cutter round because I did not need it. Also, use those spears lying around (There are dozens of them everywhere!) as they are a near instant kill on most enemies. Again they upgraded this in this version of the game as well.

Impossible mode was so ridiculously easy with these steps. You do NOT need any other weapons.

I don’t want to be ‘that guy,’ but this is extremely easy. I recommend doing a level in your NG+ run then switching over to Impossible and finishing that same level. You’ll know where and when all enemies spawn making this trivial. Level up Plasma and suit. I also put maybe 3 nodes into Force Gun, bc it just blows most enemies away. That’s all you’ll need to get this done quickly. No one should fear this challenge.

Dead Space: Impossible Difficulty.

Impossible has the same difficulty as hard mode, where you take more damage and the enemies take less, but with a twist. You only have one save file to use (save whenever you like but no multiple saves) and if you die, you have to start from the very beginning (or continue on hard mode but this voids your achievement run). It cannot be started on a New Game Plus. Needless to say, some may struggle with it.

Unlike the original 2008 game, you can start with Impossible difficulty straight away. I would highly recommend NOT doing this, even if you are experienced with Dead Space; instead go through the game on a lower difficulty, familiarise yourself with the alterations the remake has to offer and collect all the other achievements first. Doing so will take anywhere between 2-3 playthoughs and give you a good understanding of the game.

For those of you who are familiar with Dead Space, this is not a Hardcore playthough of DS2 or DS3; it is significantly easier, but not to be underestimated. The guide is designed to cater for everyone, not just those who may find this easier than others.

Visual Guide.

Suit and Weapon Selection.

There are only 67 Power Nodes to find in a playthrough of the game and that is assuming you find them all. You can buy Power Nodes in the store for 10K credits a time, but credits will be needed for ammo and health packs, new suits, and you are not likely to be able to afford extras.

This will limit you to levelling up your Suit, a primary weapon and maybe a second weapon. The Plasma Cutter is the weapon you will start with and you will need to level it up before you find any others to make your playthrough easier. It is the best all round weapon in the game and would recommend you use this as your primary. You can reset your Power Nodes for a weapon at the Bench for 5K credits if you opt to use another.

No matter which weapon(s) you decide to go with, it is essential to locate your weapon’s upgrades. The Plasma Cutter upgrades are found in Chapter 2: Intensive Care - Heat Pack (after destroying the barricade, it is in the Clinic), Chapter 3: Collision Course - Ammo Capacity (it’s available in the store for 11K credits from this point on) and Chapter 8: Search and Rescue - Weighted Blades (in the maintenance room before you take on the Leviathan Remnant). Unfortunately, I have not written a guide for the others.

The game tends to only drop ammo for weapons that are equipped. Therefore, only equip weapons you are using and return the others to the safe.

In the the first chapter, you should find a minimum of 2 Power Nodes. The first upgrade for the Suit is HP and I would recommend using this early on. Otherwise, I would not look to upgrade the Suit until the beginning of Chapter 4. Focus on your primary weapon until this point.

There are enough Power Nodes to max out both your RIG (always keeping up with the new suits) and your primary weapon fully. As stated earlier, the Plasma Cutter will work well for you but if you would like to take a second, I would recommend the Force Gun for enemies like Swarms.

Stasis and Kinesis.

Stasis is great to use in a pinch. Slow an enemy, maybe dismember a limb or two whilst focusing on another. Stasis refills are always available in areas where it is essential and fortunately, this is fairly frequent; so you can refill regularly without having to spend on Stasis packs. Always keep one or two in your inventory for the odd times you may run out.

Kinesis can be used throughout the game but it takes a second to pick up a limb or pole and then aim to fire. Poles become harder to find later in the game and limbs do less damage without Kinesis being further upgraded. It is certainly helpful though to knock an enemy over.

Gameplay.

- You probably already have but if not, configure your controls in the menu, it has Default, DS1, DS2 or Custom. Play with a setup you’re comfortable with.

- Save regularly. Although you only have one save slot, always make use of it. A number of players have mentioned that if you are close to dying or had a bad few minutes, quit the game back to the main menu and reload your save. Also, if you have just been killed and are able to pause the game quick enough, you can also return to the menu and reload your last save, but you’ll have to be very quick. Thank you to everyone who has suggested this in the comments.

- Credit to IzunaDopped for the following tip: DO NOT SAVE DURING AUDIO/VIDEO CALLS OR DURING ANIMATIONS SUCH AS TRANSPORTING THE MARKER. I've seen many streamers so far soft-lock their games doing this, as something about the Frostbite engine really hates saving whilst an animation plays out. To be safe, let everything finish before you save, or you'll regret it as you have one save, and one save only.

Edit - November 2023: Following a new playthrough, I’ve noticed that the main locations where the soft-lock could occur are not accessible during cinematic events. It is still best to be cautious but the risk is likely to be reduced.

- Ignore all unnecessary tasks, including side missions.

- Be thorough and scavenge as many Power Nodes, Credits and items as possible.

- Never bypass a Store. Always maintain a healthy and relevant inventory. Only use your credits for necessary items in the store and sell everything else.

- Never progress from a Store without ensuring you have sufficient medkits and ammo.

- Never use a Bench or Store without knowing the room is clear.

- At around Chapter 5/7, try to ensure you consistently have 3+ medium medkits available (where possible) and around 50+ ammo between Store locations. Double this by Chapter 10. It sounds cautious, but you don’t want to be caught out.

- Try to maintain a surplus of credits so you can restock at any time.

- If your RIG’s HP is yellow or red, get it back to green as soon as possible and do not risk it.

- Don’t be stingy with your ammo. Expending a few extra shots to avoid being hit is much cheaper than having to use a medkit.

- Always reload your weapon. It can sometimes be easy to forget, but it will sting if you’re caught out.

- Always know what’s around you and keep your distance. At various points, a Necromorph will sneak in behind you and if you are grabbed, you can loose a large amount of health.

- Body shots deal little damage, but they will make a Necromorph stumble and buy you a second or two if you feel overwhelmed.

- Always stomp your enemies for loot. Stomp is a bit risky if they are still mobile, but stasis can help you here.

- Don’t rush. Take your time and clear the room. At different points if the game, if you leave the room, a Necromorph you didn’t kill will burst in whilst you’re moving through the next rooms.

- Story tip: when you enter the Leviathan fight in Food Storage at the end of Chapter 6, do not go into Zero-Gravity; this will trigger the battle. Instead, stand on the edge and use Kinesis and collect up all the items floating around. You’ll sell some for credits and give you a surplus on others, especially if you are efficient in sinking the Leviathan into space.

- Credit to IzunaDropped for the following tip: For the Leviathan Remnant fight in Chapter 8, I recommend you do the ADS cannons in this order: Left, Right, Middle. This is to give you the most manoeuvrability when he puts down his spiked biomass mines after the 2nd cannon.

- Credit to IzunaDropped for the following tip: You can skip two phases of the Hive Mind final boss fight by making sure you dismember the two exploders who come at you during the battle, and use a sack on the Hive Mind's core. If you can manage to use both sacks, you skip FOUR phases of the acid spew/tentacle slam.

This achievement is very doable, just take your time and care with it.

There are reports that if you die and continue on with Hard Difficulty, that the achievement unlocks but you do not receive the Burnished Suit or the Hand Canon. I cannot verify these claims at this time and recommend you complete it legitimately.

For anyone who has completed the game on Impossible and is starting the game on New Game Plus with the Hand Canon, it is wicked fun!

Know Your Enemies.

As stated above, weapon choice will be important and the Plasma Cutter can handle almost anything. These include dismembering:

Slashers - your everyday Necromorph and the weakest.

Super Slashers - an upgraded version which normally requires you to dismember all 4 limbs. It has something that resembles a lizard spine on its back and liberating the Captain of his RIG in Chapter 2 is your first encounter with one.

Leapers - these are among the hardest to destroy in the game. They have 2 upper limbs but their lower half resembles a scorpion. Try to keep your distance, particularly from its tail and dispatch it quickly.

Lurkers - the 3 tentacled midgets that fire at you. Keep your distance and dismember a minimum of 2 tentacles to kill it. Shooting the body is a waste of ammo.

Exploders - the only Necromorph in the game that can actually help you out. These have an explosive growth on one arm which they will detonate if they get too close. If you shoot it and another Necromorph is near, it’s 2 for the price of 1. Alternatively, dismember the sack and use it like a red canister.

Infectors - these are the winged Necromorph that turn corpses into Necromorphs. You will encounter them at various points in the game, so be sure to eliminate them quickly before they turn every corpse in the room into a threat (Key points: Chapter 2, releasing the Captains RIG. Chapter 4, switching over the first ADS Canon [run back to the other side of the room]. Chapter 6, between the West and East Grow Chamber. Chapter 7, entering Deck D. Chapter 10, returning to the Crew deck [after Zero-G Basketball]).

Appendages - these are a little differed to the original game. They look like Slashers but have a drooped head and their legs are reinforced with miners armour. The legs are a waste of ammo, so go for the arms.

Twitchers - are very fast and have a built in Stasis module in their chest area (highlighted in blue). Shooting the chest never does any damage, but on these it will explode their Stasis module allowing you to dismember the limbs more easily.

Brutes - you will not encounter many in the game but they are large and charge at you. You have to use Stasis to slow them down, run behind them and destroy their weak spots. Brutes drop Power Nodes on death, so make sure you collect them.

You also have the Tentacle that reaches out and grabs you a points in the story, the Leviathan, Leviathan Remnant and the Hive Mind. All of which are easily manageable with the Plasma Cutter.

The enemies below are the 4 that can be dispatched with the Plasma Cutter but are mostly a drain on your ammo. There is quite often a red canister around that can be shot using your Kinesis which will dispatch Swarms and Divider parts easily. Otherwise, the Force Gun is best equipped for your secondary weapon.

Swarms - these are found at various points in the game and they will try to leech onto your back. If you get too many attached to you, it will cause you a problem. There are around 7-10 in a swarm and the Force Gun can clear them all in one shot.

Pregnants - are normal Necromorphs but with a swollen torso. If your shoot the torso in error, it will release swarms. The best thing is to be accurate with your shots and dismember all of its limbs to prevent having to deal with the Swarms.

Dividers - the gangly Necromorphs that break down into heads and other body parts when shot.

Guardians - are attached to the wall and have tentacles which must be shot off to destroy it. It will also fire singular immobile tentacles which will try to shot at you. Do not get close to them for risk of being snagged, but the Force Gun will shoot off many tentacles in one go.

Just thought I’d point out that the save isn’t deleted until after the death animation, so if you screw up you can just pause the game and return to the main menu to load your last save (or in dire circumstances just turn your power off at the wall).

Just make sure you’re quick about it. After a few seconds the game won’t let you pause to back out. Definitely recommend practicing on a dummy file to get used to it. But yeh it’s really not that difficult when you know that.

Also word of warning to people doing this soon after release. Without spoiling the game, there are times when your waypoint objective is in the alien language. My recommendation: do NOT save when you have this as your objective, but rather wait for it to become English (or whatever language you’re playing with). I unfortunately saved and have soft locked the game during chapter 10 due to a bug where the objective didn’t update.

I'd like to add to this, and would ask this to be added to your solution rather than me steal your thunder:
If you cover vents with kinesis blocks found throughout the chapters, you basically force the game to spawn the necromorphs elsewhere as they cannot break through the vents. I used this when I knew an ambush was coming ahead of time, and when I got the line gun later on it made preparing ambushes much, much easier.

I also advise that if you backtrack and find it filled with necromorphs, reload your save. The intensity director is random and your best case scenario is to get flickering lights or weird whispers instead of enemies.

Regarding loading your save, you can also do this to get the optimal run of a level. As I was testing damage values on Hard, what I would do is save before a fight, then reload if I took a hit or my health went from blue to yellow. This way you can become a master of each encounter, and save stations are so plentiful that you won't really miss much time in doing so. Impossible is the exact same as Hard, you just can't die.

I recommend the Plasma Cutter, the Ripper (to sell its ammo until Chapter 6), then the Line Gun in Ch4, and finally the Force Gun when you attain it in Ch.6. The Force gun not only shreds everything when maxed out, its ammo stacks are worth 6k a piece, which can be a medium medpack when you really need it. The Force gun's alt fire is also far better than stasis at slowing the downed Hunter down.

You can skip two phases of the Hive Mind final boss fight by making sure you dismember the two exploders who come at you during the battle, and use a sack on the Hive Mind's core. If you can manage to use both sacks, you skip FOUR phases of the acid spew/tentacle slam.

For the Leviathan Remnant fight in Ch8, I recommend you do the ADS cannons in this order: Left, Right, Middle. This is to give you the most maneuverability when he puts down his spiked biomass mines after the 2nd cannon.

Just want to add that I recommend you do your One Gun playthrough on Impossible. Keep your PC damage as high as you can as quick as you can, and it's actually quite easy. It works through most enemies very quickly, including bosses, and since you're only using one weapon, you will always have a healthy stock of ammo. I made it to the final boss with 13 large medpacks, and 8 full stacks of ammo.

I haven't played the game yet but I saw something helpful on a psnprofiles thread that I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to try out or not. Apparently when you die and get prompted to continue on hard or restart you can choose continue on hard and still get the impossible trophy at the end of the game. Worth looking into if this is a playstation bug or if it carries across all platforms.

Upvoted, but it doesn't have to be this complicated. On the final chapter now with only a plasma cutter and for real only had issues in the beginning. But that was because of resource management and unlucky spawns.

Think you are massively overstating the difficulty and making it sound way more complicated than it is, stick to the plasma cutter and go from save to save, if you feel like you’re going to die just hit start and quit and reload the save, doesn’t seem any punishment doing that game loads on impossible still.

I’ve got through first 4 chapters doing that practically on a no hit run cause even if I take a hit I’m reloading as I think I could do better and don’t want to waste health packs.

Other thing aswell except rooms where you have to fight just statis a enemy and run

Yeee just I myself reccomend impaling a lot more. And early on you can actually sell things. By the time I got to the hive mind I had maxed the force gun, ripper, plasma cutter and suit with 200k to spend. I reccomend the ripper for the sole reason that 1 blade generally can kill any enemy and it stumbles them away. Just make sure to launch it before the blade runs out for some extra damage. I never kept spare ripper ammo just always sold it for a nice juicy amount. I stopped buying nodes around chapter 6, as your suit is tip top and plasma cutter is good to go.

Okey im still messed up in the head, yet overjoyed.

I died during the final marker transport and game was set to hard. Decided to go through the last bit and achievement still unlocked. Not sure how or why but possible 😅

Didnt get handcannon and the suit though

It works in 90% of the cases, but if you get blown up/stand to close to a guardian you get blown to pieces and wont be able to quit out, flatline noice right away and found out the hardways.

But if someone else happends to die towards the end, finish it and hopefully you unlock it even thought you died. I can live without handcannon and skin 😆

Achievement seems to be bugged (in a good way). Popped for me on first playthough on hard. I went with impossible on first playthrough fully expecting to get put down to hard which happened in first chapter lol but it seems to of bugged out and given me the achievement anyway.

What "glitch" are you referring to? Haven't read about one myself. I was thinking maybe they fixed the dangling limb chievo to work as intended but since I already have it, I have no way of knowing, other than starting a new game and testing it.

I think what he means is that you can't lower the difficulty once you select impossible to start off with and if you don't die the option is locked. You could lower it after dying and being put down to hard but can't confirm if that works for the exploit. I continued on hard not knowing it was an exploit.

@LIWC that was my plan to avoid restarting. I imagine it's possible the same as PowerPyx's guide for PS5 suggesting to use cloud saves if desired. I was going to test it if I'd had to but fortunately don't need to. DS2 stressed me the fuck out with these kind of achievements. (Still got the final section I've yet to complete but going to attempt again soon). You just need to be careful between switching to playing online/offline.

@OneBgBdArtemis imo keep going with that. It's a reasonable strategy. I went with continuing on hard because I knew I'd go through 2 playthroughs for the NG+ achievements. Was thinking by that time I'd be ready to breeze through an impossible with some precautions.

Just finished this on my first attempt and honestly it was pretty easy, I used the PC all the way till I got the force gun and upgraded that thing shreds everything also it’s secondary fire is amazing for when you get swarmed I had some close calls but once you have enough medkits it’s grand no trouble at all just watch out for the insta kill sections the centerfuge and disarming the nuke gave me some trouble

Just a tip for the nuke room. There's two impalement rods in that room, and two of the exploding enemies. Hit each one with a rod and bingo bango bongo, no more problems.

If you dont mind cheating, this is not hard at all. You just need to be able to make it chapter 4 and get the second pulse rifle upgrade. Save 12 nodes. Do the infinite money glitch, buy nodes, and upgrade the PC and Ripper and suit as much as you can. Ive been using those two guns and have not come close to dying once. Im almost done

There is something that is vitally important to keep in mind: If you do die: quickly pause the game, quit to main menu, and Reload your save. The save slot will still have the Impossible difficult listed on it. I found this out the hard way when I got killed by the engine fire section in the Valor ship. I haven’t completed the run yet, but it looks like the save is still good.

UPDATE: this does work. I completed the Impossible play through and got the achievement and rewards. So if you die, quickly pause, return to main menu, reload your save, and you’ll be able to continue.

Just a small tip with the infectors. If you're in the room but before they spawn in, you can stomp all the corpses a few times to mutilate them so much that the infectors can't turn them. For example, in the morgue, before going to get the captain's rig, stomp every body in the room to mush (including the ones on the tables using kinesis to drag them off) and when the infector spawns you won't have to worry about new necros spawning. You only need to kill the captain and the infector itself.

It's only worth it to backtrack specifically for level 3 and master level rooms. Anything level 1 or 2 you'll actually hit backtracking naturally for story reasons.

^ there is absolutely nothing hard about this achievement. Impossible mode is EXACTLY the same difficulty as Hard, just with the caveat if you die then you get bumped down to hard. However. If you're about to die, or even if you die, you can quickly pause and return to the menu with your Impossible save intact. It's easy as hell.

This mode was a joke compared to the original game. Even with plasma cutter only. I think instead of what the mode was, it should've been like a 1 hit kill or hardcore mode with 3 saves like the 2nd game.

This seemed to cheap with the "Get me outta here button" or the "let's finish it on hard and still get the impossible" achieve route.
Solid experience nonetheless.

Don't be so quick to judge then difficulty experience you had compared to others.
I myself started on Impossible and I am faring way better than of my friends who is vastly superior in fps games. It's all a matter of how we each adapt to them.
I personally am growing weary of the stupid retarded hard difficulties. To me, anymore, they're just there so the devs can claim replayability
I overlook this one as it was in the original.
If the game isn't good enough to stand on its own, throwing in a hair shredding difficulty is not going to garner replayability numbers. C'mon man!!

Another something I found to help with ammo conservation is you can actually break vents on your own. Didn't even figure that out until multiple playthroughs in, but you can just snack the vents with a melee, and then you can pick up the fan blade and launch it at enemies.

I really hate when developers put those "don't die at all" achievements in the game. In the OG game we could use cheats and it wouldn't avoid the achievement, probably can't in this game.

Also in some games, if you delete the data on the xbox when you die, it doesn't reset the game, like with those Ironman acheivements in the gears of war franchise, wonder if anyone can test it out.

wrt Infectors, I would add to the guide, when you enter an area where Infectors will appear destroy or remove all entact corpses. As an example, entering the crew deck down the sloped passage way, kinesis ALL the corpses into the passage way. Thus when the Infectors arrive they have no corpses to convert.

I haven't finished the mode yet, but I have to say, a lot of the tension of upgrading can be removed entirely by exploiting the pulse rifle as a source of money. Basically, wait until you have two upgrades for the pulse rifle then pull 13 nodes off of other stuff and upgrade its capacity. ONE NODE AT A TIME. Every time you upgrade the capacity, empty your rifle via the proximity mines and then return the mines to ammo and pick it up. DO NOT RELOAD. Simply add another capacity node and the gun will fill with ammo from the ether. Using this method you can get 10's of thousands of credits in a few minutes by selling the ammo and it only costs 5,000 to respec the nodes and do it again. The best place I know to do this is the sales kiosk at the hangar tram as there's a bench right through the door that leads to medical and enemies don't spawn in the tram station and rarely spawn in the area with the workbench (though you can hear them down below). I also did this on the bridge, but enemies will fairly often spawn in the corridor with the sales kiosk and for some reason, the smoke effect in that hallway is cumulative, so the longer you're in the area the denser it gets until the hallway is basically opaque. The upshot is, you can fully upgrade as many weapons as you want by doing this and buy whatever health packs or ammo you need, at least until they think of a way to patch it out.

Just completed this, and honestly I think just holding on to the plasma cutter is the way to go. That way you only have one upgrade path to focus on, and there are enough nodes to fully update both the suit (up to level 5) and the plasma cutter in one playthrough. Never had to spend extra credits on ammo, only on health packs. The fully upgraded plasma cutter is good enough for most enemies in the game (other than the swarms, I just deal with them by spamming A and healing afterwards).

The environmental traps felt more dangerous mainly because of the insta-kill, but save scumming and quitting immediately still works, and honestly makes this no different from hard difficulty.

Other than that, I only backtracked a bit for the Premeditated Malpractice side mission to get the prototype stasis that melts enemies so that their limbs were easier to shoot off. Can't say if this was essential, but it saves quite a bit of ammo for the tougher necromorphs that usually take multiple shots to shoot off 1 limb and requires dismembering multiple limbs.

I only died once in my whole playthrough and it was from the rotating lasers you need to stasis. I slowed them, ran through them, and got surprised by the necro that spawns directly ahead. I backed up just a touch too far and they got me. Obviously I paused and quit out because restarting the game because of that would be pointless

YOU babies are the reason why Resident Evil 3 remake was so bad. RE2 remake was amazing! REAL GAMERS understood how difficult it was to unlock unlimited ammo weapons in the game, but you brats come along and complained and they "dumbed it down" for the RE3 remake and allowed EVERYONE to get unlimited ammo weapons much more easily.

STOP RUINING games for everyone else. If you don't like it, are too much of a wimp, or have invalid opinions about why developers put impossible difficulties and nearly impossible tasks to get unlimited ammo, THEN DON'T PLAY THE GAME. SImple. Or just move on from it.

I know you babies will come back with retorts about why this post is wrong, but they are all irrelevant. If you invest as much time in a game to get said difficult achievements as you do pondering your pathetically written and invalid complaints, then you might actually get somewhere like the rest of us.

Personally I thought this difficulty was the perfect way and done correctly. My opinion of course, for my wants out of a game, so 45 years into my gaming career.

And yes I Am one who complained about difficulty related Achievements. Which is to say I don't appreciate them as I'm waiting for one on some game at some point to Not unlock. Like my myriad of other glitched out chievos, such as get all other achievement achievements. That's My issue that I have with difficulty related achievements. Not the difficulty but the sorry way that glitched achievements are just brushed off anymore.

And I know, I don't HAVE to play the game on the hardest mode not do I HAVE to get the achievement.

I'd just like to see better accountability when it comes to fixing said glitched/ broken achievements.

The funny thing is, when people say "I stopped reading at a certain point," they never actually mean it. And it matters not, because the rest of what I wrote just add ambiance to the first paragraph you claim to have prioritized over the rest of what I wrote. My point was made there.

Let me explain it in simpler terms: Whiners about how difficult something is is like a gentleman I work with. I often claim he is stuck in grade school mentally (even though he is not like that) because of what he says and does, and always says that whatever happens to him is everyone else's fault. He nailed this point home when he told me one day when he had to do homework, he didn't want to complete his spelling work, and asked his parents how to spell the words he needed to complete it. Like normal, caring parents, they proceeded to show him how to sound out the words and such, and he continued to get more and more frustrated and mad at them because they would not give him the answers. To this day, he still hates them for this and can't understand why they would just not give him the answers instead of helping him get to the the answers on his own.

Another example: kids trying to get their student loans expunged. Give me a break...

Stop saying things are too difficult. LIFE is difficult. Get over it and solve your own problems and stop complaining because it's too hard for you. No one cares and it makes the rest of us laugh at you, especially over a video game. laugh

And Pillars of Eternity is so fu**ed that you have to leave the game and system powered on for the duration of the 100+ hours to complete it. If you shut it off, the system resets achievement progress for nearly all achievements. And That dev said fuck you we're not fixing it. Yet it's still sold on the m$ store
I'm sure there are a couple others but yeah, I keep waiting for the pin to drop on one the hardest difficulty achievements locking up too

So after attempting this achievement the last couple days I've determined it's not that hard. Just have to keep the basics in mind.. know where you're going to be attacked, and spam exiting out before the death sequence is completed. It works and I haven't restarted on impossible difficulty yet. I'm in chapter 4 already, and have barely any health. I lost most of my health near the beginning when you have to use the claws on the tram in chapter 1. That room was perhaps the most difficult part for me but that has been in. Yes, I've died but that's just because I've been taking chances that don't pay off atm

I recommend doing what I'm doing... use stasis as much as you can and starting swinging with the plasma cutter or stomping. Most of the time you can kill a necromorph with this strategy and I've killed 2 at a time doing this sometimes.

Or use the many, many, many weapons they leave around for you in the game. Explosive canisters, fan vents (knock them out of the wall and kenesis them), necromproh limbs, stasis containers, or spears. Use them every chance you get. As I said I've barely fired my plasma cutter. I've upgraded the damage and capacity on my PC but waited until my clip was emptyEfore before upgrading the capacity (I fired my PC when I knew a bench was coming up otherwise it wasn't used except for swinging so far.)

Another amazing trick i just found out was this... you know the pipes you can kenesis off the wall and throw into enemies? Well not only are they an instant kill for nearly every enemy, but you can reuse them again and again. After pinning a necromorph with one I carry it around and save my game. When you reload the necromorph that was stuck to it is gone but the pipe can be used again.
I've done this several times with only one pipe and only abandoned the pipe after I lost it in space or down a shaft or something. Basically unlimited ammo if you do it right.


As another poster said, I feel the hard-core achievement on Dead Space 2 was far more difficult. This has been a legit breeze so far.

EDIT: Pro Tip: definitely get the weighted blades for your PC AND also the stasis prototype... that thing is amazing! ... It kills the swarms instantly and in chapter 8 when you meet 2 Guardians next to a doorway I shot both of them with stasis and not only did it slow them down but killed them both. ONE SHOT EACH.

So I beat this and got the cheevo last night. I got to the final boss with nearly 350 plasma rounds, 3 dozen stasis packs, 10 extra nodes, about 30 small health packs, 20 medium heal packs, and about 10 large health packs. And I NEVER bought any extra, even the power nodes. I had over $300,000 in credits too. The game literally throws way too much ammo and credits at you.

With that said, the toughest part, as with any impossible difficulty setting, is the beginning. Only because of low ammo and health and armor, but like I said earlier, I was meticulous and stingy with my ammo...I RARELY ever fired my PC unless I had to. I used stasis religiously, and spammed the save station. Other than that I ONLY swung my PC or stomped on enemies to kill them. And once you get the stasis prototype (that electrifies enemies) and the weighted blades, the rest of the game is a breeze.

A couple of other tips: the weighted blades are AMAZING against the Hunter, and once you knock him down most encounters you can simply run into another room and he won't chase you there. For instance, late in the game before you fry him with the shuttle's engines, when you meet him in the poison gas room I waited for him at the exit door (grab the battery for the elevator before shooting the infected bulb that summons him in the first place), knocked him to the floor with my weighted blades, and left the area. He didn't follow me into the next room to battle the 3 necromophs that battle you there.

Also, the Marker slows down everything when you're near it. It's like a giant stasis amplifier. After Dr. Kyne asks you to get to the shuttle before Mercer comes back you battle more necromorphs in the large damaged Atrium area. I simply stood next to the Marker, let the necromophs come to me, then beat them down with the weighted blades as they slowly tried to get back up again. I also did this every chance I got later as you are transporting the Marker through the cargo hold to the pedestal at the end.

One more tip: before the final hive mind fight, when you are moving the Marker onto the pedestal and before you find out about Nicole, you are swarmed by wave after wave of necromorphs, and have to battle the large tentacles as well. I stayed in the left corner (when facing towards the pedestal, the corner to your left), and let all the necromoprhs come to me. Of course you have to blow up 2 of the infected bulbs before you can get to that corner, but this last area was a breeze from there. Stasis, weighted blades, and shoot only when you need to. Even the large tentacles couldn't pound me in that spot.

So don't let the "impossible" word deter you before you even try it. This was far too easy primarily because you can use as many saves as you want. I must have saved 200 times in this run. Finally, the other poster had it correct when they said that Dead Space Hardcore was far more difficult. I would rate this difficulty not even in the same ball park. 100%

Same. Although in my opinion, I think this was made easier by having better controls. The better Series X controller lends itself to being able to play these better. Don't get me wrong, this was sufficiently difficult. In fact I would say any harder and I'd of not enjoyed it but I would instead of viewed it as a chore.
So hopefully if they do do Dead Space 2 remake, I hope they don't get the bright idea like all other devs to turn the difficulty up. That gets aggravating and ceases to be a challenge, just makes me regret playing it in the first place

Guys, this isn't that bad. Hard was a fair challenge, basically what Normal should have been. 'Impossible' is just hard but you "can't" die.

I think people who are complaining are not playing into the game economy enough. You will always have way too much ammo at all times if you play smart with telekinesis and stomp. That means you should always sell surplus to buy more nodes for upgrades or health packs if you're low on hp. You don't even need to conserve it that much to rack up clips upon clips. No point in storing surplus ammo for later because you'll always have enough. Sell it and buy stuff to make you stronger asap.

They die in one hit with the Stasis Prototype upgrade that you get for completing the tissue sample side quest. Simply stasis and forget when you come across one. You can finish the side quest and grab the prototype as early as Chapter 7 or 8.

If you have only just died and are very quick, apparently you can quit out and reload your save, but if you’re too slow, it will be lost. It’s best to recognise when you’re struggling and quit out before you die.

On some games you can do a little trick where you play the game offline, then connect to the internet when you want to make a save. Make your save, exit the game, and load it back up so it goes onto the cloud. Then go back offline and play until you feel comfortable about making your next save. If you mess up, delete your save BEFORE YOU GO ONLINE, go back online, load up your previous save that was made onto the cloud.

Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding how this achievement works.

This is just my own observations on a what is is good guide.

1 - Weapon-wise, I ran Plasma Cutter, Flamethrower, and Pulse Rifle. I did not carry a fourth weapon. The Flamethrower, in my opinion, is the absolute best weapon in the game when you must hold off multiple enemies. Enemies on fire will eventually freeze in place, unable to advance while they panic. Nearly every ambush the game throws at you I survived using kinesis and either the cutter or the rifle until an enemy was in flamethrower range, and then I cooked everything. The final necromorph battle which occurs in the middle of the Hive Mind fight I used exclusively the flamethrower and they never touched me.

2 - I don't think much danger exists in doing the side missions. You won't see much danger backtracking - perhaps two or three enemies, but nothing major. The hunter research mission gets you the prototype stasis module, which definitely helps in the later part of the game. Getting the Master Override access also gets you some weapon upgrades, which might be crucial depending on what weapons you run. The upgrades also get you Nodes, which are useful even if you aren't upgrading the weapon in question. Sometimes you'll get the Ruby Semiconductor - which is worth a Node or a Large Health Pack: also valuable.

3 - Against Guardians - when you initially face them they will extend all their tentacles at once. If you are quick, stasis them and then hit them with a pulse grenade, a thrown explosive, or rush them with the flamethrower. You should be able to get all the tentacles at once before the stasis ends.

4 - Sometimes, you will be ambushed in a room with two levels accessible by elevator. If the elevator works, it is often worth your time to fight the ambush on the catwalks above the room. You can control the area better if they can only come at you from two directions, especially if you're using Fire Walls, Laser Traps, or Pulse Grenades. Fighting on the ground, often with tables and other obstructions, is sometimes messy when you're getting swarmed.

5 - When you know there is going to be an ambush or boss fight, like the Leviathan, and you can see all the loot, COLLECT IT FIRST before triggering the ambush or boss fight. Then go back to a save station and make a save. It will save you lots of time if you have to exit and reload.

I managed to do it legitimately with 0 deaths, not even near deaths.

I used the plasma cutter and the rifle. When i unlocked the force gun, i removed all upgrades from the rifle and used them on the force gun.

I scavenged a lot. I obtained the prototype stasis which is very op. Its a must and easy to obtain. Combines pretty well with plasma cutter and force gun.

At the end, i reseted the upgrades of the force gun and i maxed the pulse rifle and the contact beam.

Use the contact beam for the hive minds weak spots at the start and at the final phase. Use the plasma cutter for the regular enemies after applying stasis to them. Use the rifle's grenade launcher for the 5 spots in the boss's belly.

Watch out for the bug on Chapter 3 where you are refuelling north and south. My game got stuck with the action done but not registered so couldn't progress and with one save I had no way to go back.

Be careful of the games Engine, as mentioned in the guide. Do not engage with an action whilst a cinematic or non-player event (including radio discussions) is taking place.. it has a habit of soft locking the game.

To thwart Infectors, stomp on corpses you see until their head comes off, then they can't be transformed.

It might be tedious, but it'll cut down on enemy encounters. Also, it makes the Infector beeline to you instead, so be ready.

I personally find it's well worth going for the Prototype Stasis Module. It requires only small detours of you (once for putting the probe into the reader in medical, once for hearing the report on the bridge, and finally getting the upgrade in hydrophonics). If you do these detours once they become available you will only encounter randomized standard encounters. I'd say it took me 10min altogether. The upgraded stasis halves the amount of shots you need to dismember a limb. Oh, and it will one-shot kill the swarms of little enemies, AND one-shot kill the tentacle monsters that hang on walls if you let them marinate in the stasis for a few seconds.

For anyone that has already played dead space 1-3, even if it was a while ago, I recommend just starting off on impossible mode. I didn't remember any controls but quickly got the hang of everything, you don't have to do an entire play through to get the hang of it.

The reason I recommend starting on impossible mode, is so you don't have that cloud hanging over you the entire time you play, and also so you don't have to play the game 3 times. On my new game+ playthrough, I'll have the hand cannon and I can focus on all the other achievements, I also did all the side missions during my impossible mode run xD. It really isn't that bad. You can quickly press start and quit to menu if you find yourself in a bind, even instant death areas you can press pause pretty quickly and get out of that situation if you end up dying in one of them. The game is significantly easier than the original version imo. I also did my plasma cutter only run on during my impossible mode run, and I also used the force-gun strategy to get a lot of forcegun ammo to sell to have enough credits to upgrade everything in the next playthrough. Yes all these things will handicap you but it's better than playing 3 times, you'll burn out!

Just completed it last night. Very bum twitchy in places. If I can offer any advice it would be not to go beyond level 3 suit - You don't need it. Use kinesis on limbs for projectiles and upgrade plasma/ripper/flamethrower (excellent for 1 alt fire shot wall guys) and the force gun. Where I could, I kited enemies into a group, held them with stasis and then alt fire force gun, plus alt fire flamethrower. Didn't leave a lot standing after that barrage :)

Yes, this remastered version was good, but it paled in comparison to the originaly. I actually returned it after getting all achievements. Impossible mode was fun, but like I mentioned above, I have WAY too much ammo and health by halfway through the game. It's insanely easy to kill most enemies with just knocking them away and stasis. They made that much more powerful than in the original. It's a shame really...probably dumbed it down for the people that can't handle a harder difficulty, just like they did for Resident Evil 3 remake by allowing the rocket launcher to be available after 1 playthrough. Resident Evil 2 remake was too difficult for some people, and they complained, and ruined Resident Evil 3 remake.

While this game was better on Impossible mode than Resident Evil 3 was, it was a let down. Far too easy to get this achievement.

Leaper has a weak point. It’s a „wrist” of his „hand”. I kill them on Hard by TWO shots of Plasma Cutter. Use Stasis and mark on a wrist - you see the results.

No, there is no auto-use of Medkits. I feel it would have been appropriate to use them in a totally new game, but for authenticity, they couldn’t do it.

One of the things which not many players seem to know, is that the remake incorporates much more intricate enemy designs and as a result there is a new stripper system in addition to the amputation system. This isn't explained in the game to the best of my knowledge so understandable that many people will have missed this.

Obviously the amputation system is the way you cut off limbs just like the original.

However enemies now have added muscle tissue to their bodies and it's not just for graphical details and aesthetics. The muscle tissue actually provides enemies with extra protection, hence why they can seem to tank so much damage at times. If you can strip an enemy of their muscle tissue their bones become exposed and they will take fewer shots to cut off.

Weapons fall under two categories - precision; and stripper. Precision weapons are things like the Plasma Cutter or the Pulse Rifle (primary fire). Stripper weapons are things like the Flamethrower or Force Gun.

Watch closely when you use a Flamethrower or a Force Gun on an enemy. Even a short burst of flames will damage and strip away the muscle tissue. The enemy will look skinnier and the bones will be exposed. If you switch to a precision afterwards you can cut off their limbs in far fewer shots.

If you only use the Plasma Cutter on Impossible mode, while it's doable, you will notice that enemies will take many more shots to kill. and ammo can become short.

But if you go for this hybrid approach and bring along a weapon for stripping muscle tissue, you can conserve ammo and make alot of fights easier.

Also just to add that the Plasma Cutter has an upgrade which applies burn damage over time and this helps to strip muscle tissue too. Also the Stasis Module has an upgrade from one of the side quests which also applies additional strip damage to the stasis effects too.

Is this something that can be confirmed? I have played this game and the original and have NEVER heard of this being more than an aesthetic affect. The difference is so minute it's not even worth mentioning unless it is confirmed.

As I stated in my walkthrough, it is far, far simpler to go through the game with just the plasma cutter (and that way you can knock off several achievements at the same time)...and use the swing and stomp attacks. They updated these 2 attacks so that they are ridiculously powerful in this version of the game. I literally sold plasma ammo in my plasma cutter round because I did not need it. Also, use those spears lying around (There are dozens of them everywhere!) as they are a near instant kill on most enemies. Again they upgraded this in this version of the game as well.

Impossible mode was so ridiculously easy with these steps. You do NOT need any other weapons.

I don’t want to be ‘that guy,’ but this is extremely easy. I recommend doing a level in your NG+ run then switching over to Impossible and finishing that same level. You’ll know where and when all enemies spawn making this trivial. Level up Plasma and suit. I also put maybe 3 nodes into Force Gun, bc it just blows most enemies away. That’s all you’ll need to get this done quickly. No one should fear this challenge.

I killed the guardians with stasis, dont know if its a glitch or not but hit one with stasis and see if it works for you too save your ammo

Dead Space: Impossible Difficulty.

Impossible has the same difficulty as hard mode, where you take more damage and the enemies take less, but with a twist. You only have one save file to use (save whenever you like but no multiple saves) and if you die, you have to start from the very beginning (or continue on hard mode but this voids your achievement run). It cannot be started on a New Game Plus. Needless to say, some may struggle with it.

Unlike the original 2008 game, you can start with Impossible difficulty straight away. I would highly recommend NOT doing this, even if you are experienced with Dead Space; instead go through the game on a lower difficulty, familiarise yourself with the alterations the remake has to offer and collect all the other achievements first. Doing so will take anywhere between 2-3 playthoughs and give you a good understanding of the game.

For those of you who are familiar with Dead Space, this is not a Hardcore playthough of DS2 or DS3; it is significantly easier, but not to be underestimated. The guide is designed to cater for everyone, not just those who may find this easier than others.

Visual Guide.

Suit and Weapon Selection.

There are only 67 Power Nodes to find in a playthrough of the game and that is assuming you find them all. You can buy Power Nodes in the store for 10K credits a time, but credits will be needed for ammo and health packs, new suits, and you are not likely to be able to afford extras.

This will limit you to levelling up your Suit, a primary weapon and maybe a second weapon. The Plasma Cutter is the weapon you will start with and you will need to level it up before you find any others to make your playthrough easier. It is the best all round weapon in the game and would recommend you use this as your primary. You can reset your Power Nodes for a weapon at the Bench for 5K credits if you opt to use another.

No matter which weapon(s) you decide to go with, it is essential to locate your weapon’s upgrades. The Plasma Cutter upgrades are found in Chapter 2: Intensive Care - Heat Pack (after destroying the barricade, it is in the Clinic), Chapter 3: Collision Course - Ammo Capacity (it’s available in the store for 11K credits from this point on) and Chapter 8: Search and Rescue - Weighted Blades (in the maintenance room before you take on the Leviathan Remnant). Unfortunately, I have not written a guide for the others.

The game tends to only drop ammo for weapons that are equipped. Therefore, only equip weapons you are using and return the others to the safe.

In the the first chapter, you should find a minimum of 2 Power Nodes. The first upgrade for the Suit is HP and I would recommend using this early on. Otherwise, I would not look to upgrade the Suit until the beginning of Chapter 4. Focus on your primary weapon until this point.

There are enough Power Nodes to max out both your RIG (always keeping up with the new suits) and your primary weapon fully. As stated earlier, the Plasma Cutter will work well for you but if you would like to take a second, I would recommend the Force Gun for enemies like Swarms.

Stasis and Kinesis.

Stasis is great to use in a pinch. Slow an enemy, maybe dismember a limb or two whilst focusing on another. Stasis refills are always available in areas where it is essential and fortunately, this is fairly frequent; so you can refill regularly without having to spend on Stasis packs. Always keep one or two in your inventory for the odd times you may run out.

Kinesis can be used throughout the game but it takes a second to pick up a limb or pole and then aim to fire. Poles become harder to find later in the game and limbs do less damage without Kinesis being further upgraded. It is certainly helpful though to knock an enemy over.

Gameplay.

- You probably already have but if not, configure your controls in the menu, it has Default, DS1, DS2 or Custom. Play with a setup you’re comfortable with.

- Save regularly. Although you only have one save slot, always make use of it. A number of players have mentioned that if you are close to dying or had a bad few minutes, quit the game back to the main menu and reload your save. Also, if you have just been killed and are able to pause the game quick enough, you can also return to the menu and reload your last save, but you’ll have to be very quick. Thank you to everyone who has suggested this in the comments.

- Credit to IzunaDopped for the following tip: DO NOT SAVE DURING AUDIO/VIDEO CALLS OR DURING ANIMATIONS SUCH AS TRANSPORTING THE MARKER. I've seen many streamers so far soft-lock their games doing this, as something about the Frostbite engine really hates saving whilst an animation plays out. To be safe, let everything finish before you save, or you'll regret it as you have one save, and one save only.

Edit - November 2023: Following a new playthrough, I’ve noticed that the main locations where the soft-lock could occur are not accessible during cinematic events. It is still best to be cautious but the risk is likely to be reduced.

- Ignore all unnecessary tasks, including side missions.

- Be thorough and scavenge as many Power Nodes, Credits and items as possible.

- Never bypass a Store. Always maintain a healthy and relevant inventory. Only use your credits for necessary items in the store and sell everything else.

- Never progress from a Store without ensuring you have sufficient medkits and ammo.

- Never use a Bench or Store without knowing the room is clear.

- At around Chapter 5/7, try to ensure you consistently have 3+ medium medkits available (where possible) and around 50+ ammo between Store locations. Double this by Chapter 10. It sounds cautious, but you don’t want to be caught out.

- Try to maintain a surplus of credits so you can restock at any time.

- If your RIG’s HP is yellow or red, get it back to green as soon as possible and do not risk it.

- Don’t be stingy with your ammo. Expending a few extra shots to avoid being hit is much cheaper than having to use a medkit.

- Always reload your weapon. It can sometimes be easy to forget, but it will sting if you’re caught out.

- Always know what’s around you and keep your distance. At various points, a Necromorph will sneak in behind you and if you are grabbed, you can loose a large amount of health.

- Body shots deal little damage, but they will make a Necromorph stumble and buy you a second or two if you feel overwhelmed.

- Always stomp your enemies for loot. Stomp is a bit risky if they are still mobile, but stasis can help you here.

- Don’t rush. Take your time and clear the room. At different points if the game, if you leave the room, a Necromorph you didn’t kill will burst in whilst you’re moving through the next rooms.

- Story tip: when you enter the Leviathan fight in Food Storage at the end of Chapter 6, do not go into Zero-Gravity; this will trigger the battle. Instead, stand on the edge and use Kinesis and collect up all the items floating around. You’ll sell some for credits and give you a surplus on others, especially if you are efficient in sinking the Leviathan into space.

- Credit to IzunaDropped for the following tip: For the Leviathan Remnant fight in Chapter 8, I recommend you do the ADS cannons in this order: Left, Right, Middle. This is to give you the most manoeuvrability when he puts down his spiked biomass mines after the 2nd cannon.

- Credit to IzunaDropped for the following tip: You can skip two phases of the Hive Mind final boss fight by making sure you dismember the two exploders who come at you during the battle, and use a sack on the Hive Mind's core. If you can manage to use both sacks, you skip FOUR phases of the acid spew/tentacle slam.

This achievement is very doable, just take your time and care with it.

There are reports that if you die and continue on with Hard Difficulty, that the achievement unlocks but you do not receive the Burnished Suit or the Hand Canon. I cannot verify these claims at this time and recommend you complete it legitimately.

For anyone who has completed the game on Impossible and is starting the game on New Game Plus with the Hand Canon, it is wicked fun!

Know Your Enemies.

As stated above, weapon choice will be important and the Plasma Cutter can handle almost anything. These include dismembering:

Slashers - your everyday Necromorph and the weakest.

Super Slashers - an upgraded version which normally requires you to dismember all 4 limbs. It has something that resembles a lizard spine on its back and liberating the Captain of his RIG in Chapter 2 is your first encounter with one.

Leapers - these are among the hardest to destroy in the game. They have 2 upper limbs but their lower half resembles a scorpion. Try to keep your distance, particularly from its tail and dispatch it quickly.

Lurkers - the 3 tentacled midgets that fire at you. Keep your distance and dismember a minimum of 2 tentacles to kill it. Shooting the body is a waste of ammo.

Exploders - the only Necromorph in the game that can actually help you out. These have an explosive growth on one arm which they will detonate if they get too close. If you shoot it and another Necromorph is near, it’s 2 for the price of 1. Alternatively, dismember the sack and use it like a red canister.

Infectors - these are the winged Necromorph that turn corpses into Necromorphs. You will encounter them at various points in the game, so be sure to eliminate them quickly before they turn every corpse in the room into a threat (Key points: Chapter 2, releasing the Captains RIG. Chapter 4, switching over the first ADS Canon [run back to the other side of the room]. Chapter 6, between the West and East Grow Chamber. Chapter 7, entering Deck D. Chapter 10, returning to the Crew deck [after Zero-G Basketball]).

Appendages - these are a little differed to the original game. They look like Slashers but have a drooped head and their legs are reinforced with miners armour. The legs are a waste of ammo, so go for the arms.

Twitchers - are very fast and have a built in Stasis module in their chest area (highlighted in blue). Shooting the chest never does any damage, but on these it will explode their Stasis module allowing you to dismember the limbs more easily.

Brutes - you will not encounter many in the game but they are large and charge at you. You have to use Stasis to slow them down, run behind them and destroy their weak spots. Brutes drop Power Nodes on death, so make sure you collect them.

You also have the Tentacle that reaches out and grabs you a points in the story, the Leviathan, Leviathan Remnant and the Hive Mind. All of which are easily manageable with the Plasma Cutter.

The enemies below are the 4 that can be dispatched with the Plasma Cutter but are mostly a drain on your ammo. There is quite often a red canister around that can be shot using your Kinesis which will dispatch Swarms and Divider parts easily. Otherwise, the Force Gun is best equipped for your secondary weapon.

Swarms - these are found at various points in the game and they will try to leech onto your back. If you get too many attached to you, it will cause you a problem. There are around 7-10 in a swarm and the Force Gun can clear them all in one shot.

Pregnants - are normal Necromorphs but with a swollen torso. If your shoot the torso in error, it will release swarms. The best thing is to be accurate with your shots and dismember all of its limbs to prevent having to deal with the Swarms.

Dividers - the gangly Necromorphs that break down into heads and other body parts when shot.

Guardians - are attached to the wall and have tentacles which must be shot off to destroy it. It will also fire singular immobile tentacles which will try to shot at you. Do not get close to them for risk of being snagged, but the Force Gun will shoot off many tentacles in one go.

Just thought I’d point out that the save isn’t deleted until after the death animation, so if you screw up you can just pause the game and return to the main menu to load your last save (or in dire circumstances just turn your power off at the wall).

Just make sure you’re quick about it. After a few seconds the game won’t let you pause to back out. Definitely recommend practicing on a dummy file to get used to it. But yeh it’s really not that difficult when you know that.

Also word of warning to people doing this soon after release. Without spoiling the game, there are times when your waypoint objective is in the alien language. My recommendation: do NOT save when you have this as your objective, but rather wait for it to become English (or whatever language you’re playing with). I unfortunately saved and have soft locked the game during chapter 10 due to a bug where the objective didn’t update.

i would also suggest never pass up a chance refill stasis for free. also if your low on ammo you can upgrade the cap on a weapon and it will refill for free.

I'd like to add to this, and would ask this to be added to your solution rather than me steal your thunder:
If you cover vents with kinesis blocks found throughout the chapters, you basically force the game to spawn the necromorphs elsewhere as they cannot break through the vents. I used this when I knew an ambush was coming ahead of time, and when I got the line gun later on it made preparing ambushes much, much easier.

I also advise that if you backtrack and find it filled with necromorphs, reload your save. The intensity director is random and your best case scenario is to get flickering lights or weird whispers instead of enemies.

Regarding loading your save, you can also do this to get the optimal run of a level. As I was testing damage values on Hard, what I would do is save before a fight, then reload if I took a hit or my health went from blue to yellow. This way you can become a master of each encounter, and save stations are so plentiful that you won't really miss much time in doing so. Impossible is the exact same as Hard, you just can't die.

I recommend the Plasma Cutter, the Ripper (to sell its ammo until Chapter 6), then the Line Gun in Ch4, and finally the Force Gun when you attain it in Ch.6. The Force gun not only shreds everything when maxed out, its ammo stacks are worth 6k a piece, which can be a medium medpack when you really need it. The Force gun's alt fire is also far better than stasis at slowing the downed Hunter down.

For the Leviathan Remnant fight in Ch8, I recommend you do the ADS cannons in this order: Left, Right, Middle. This is to give you the most maneuverability when he puts down his spiked biomass mines after the 2nd cannon.

And most importantly, DO NOT SAVE DURING AUDIO/VIDEO CALLS OR DURING ANIMATIONS SUCH AS TRANSPORTING THE MARKER. I've seen many streamers so far softlock their games doing this, as something about the Frostbite engine really hates saving whilst an animation plays out. To be safe, let everything finish before you save, or you'll regret it as you have one save, and one save only.

All in all I'd put Dead Space 2 hardcore above this one in terms of difficulty, so if you can do that, you can do this.

Just want to add that I recommend you do your One Gun playthrough on Impossible. Keep your PC damage as high as you can as quick as you can, and it's actually quite easy. It works through most enemies very quickly, including bosses, and since you're only using one weapon, you will always have a healthy stock of ammo. I made it to the final boss with 13 large medpacks, and 8 full stacks of ammo.

i would also suggest never pass up a chance refill stasis for free. also if your low on ammo you can upgrade the cap on a weapon and it will refill for free.

I haven't played the game yet but I saw something helpful on a psnprofiles thread that I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to try out or not. Apparently when you die and get prompted to continue on hard or restart you can choose continue on hard and still get the impossible trophy at the end of the game. Worth looking into if this is a playstation bug or if it carries across all platforms.

Upvoted, but it doesn't have to be this complicated. On the final chapter now with only a plasma cutter and for real only had issues in the beginning. But that was because of resource management and unlucky spawns.

I died during the final marker transport and game was set to hard. Decided to go through the last bit and achievement still unlocked. Not sure how or why but possible 😅

It works in 90% of the cases, but if you get blown up/stand to close to a guardian you get blown to pieces and wont be able to quit out, flatline noice right away and found out the hardways.

But if someone else happends to die towards the end, finish it and hopefully you unlock it even thought you died. I can live without handcannon and skin 😆

Achievement seems to be bugged (in a good way). Popped for me on first playthough on hard. I went with impossible on first playthrough fully expecting to get put down to hard which happened in first chapter lol but it seems to of bugged out and given me the achievement anyway.

What "glitch" are you referring to? Haven't read about one myself. I was thinking maybe they fixed the dangling limb chievo to work as intended but since I already have it, I have no way of knowing, other than starting a new game and testing it.

I think what he means is that you can't lower the difficulty once you select impossible to start off with and if you don't die the option is locked. You could lower it after dying and being put down to hard but can't confirm if that works for the exploit. I continued on hard not knowing it was an exploit.

Just finished this on my first attempt and honestly it was pretty easy, I used the PC all the way till I got the force gun and upgraded that thing shreds everything also it’s secondary fire is amazing for when you get swarmed I had some close calls but once you have enough medkits it’s grand no trouble at all just watch out for the insta kill sections the centerfuge and disarming the nuke gave me some trouble

If you dont mind cheating, this is not hard at all. You just need to be able to make it chapter 4 and get the second pulse rifle upgrade. Save 12 nodes. Do the infinite money glitch, buy nodes, and upgrade the PC and Ripper and suit as much as you can. Ive been using those two guns and have not come close to dying once. Im almost done

There is something that is vitally important to keep in mind: If you do die: quickly pause the game, quit to main menu, and Reload your save. The save slot will still have the Impossible difficult listed on it. I found this out the hard way when I got killed by the engine fire section in the Valor ship. I haven’t completed the run yet, but it looks like the save is still good.

UPDATE: this does work. I completed the Impossible play through and got the achievement and rewards. So if you die, quickly pause, return to main menu, reload your save, and you’ll be able to continue.

Just a small tip with the infectors. If you're in the room but before they spawn in, you can stomp all the corpses a few times to mutilate them so much that the infectors can't turn them. For example, in the morgue, before going to get the captain's rig, stomp every body in the room to mush (including the ones on the tables using kinesis to drag them off) and when the infector spawns you won't have to worry about new necros spawning. You only need to kill the captain and the infector itself.

It's only worth it to backtrack specifically for level 3 and master level rooms. Anything level 1 or 2 you'll actually hit backtracking naturally for story reasons.

^ there is absolutely nothing hard about this achievement. Impossible mode is EXACTLY the same difficulty as Hard, just with the caveat if you die then you get bumped down to hard. However. If you're about to die, or even if you die, you can quickly pause and return to the menu with your Impossible save intact. It's easy as hell.

This mode was a joke compared to the original game. Even with plasma cutter only. I think instead of what the mode was, it should've been like a 1 hit kill or hardcore mode with 3 saves like the 2nd game.

This seemed to cheap with the "Get me outta here button" or the "let's finish it on hard and still get the impossible" achieve route.
Solid experience nonetheless.

Don't be so quick to judge then difficulty experience you had compared to others.
I myself started on Impossible and I am faring way better than of my friends who is vastly superior in fps games. It's all a matter of how we each adapt to them.
I personally am growing weary of the stupid retarded hard difficulties. To me, anymore, they're just there so the devs can claim replayability
I overlook this one as it was in the original.
If the game isn't good enough to stand on its own, throwing in a hair shredding difficulty is not going to garner replayability numbers. C'mon man!!

Another something I found to help with ammo conservation is you can actually break vents on your own. Didn't even figure that out until multiple playthroughs in, but you can just snack the vents with a melee, and then you can pick up the fan blade and launch it at enemies.

wrt Infectors, I would add to the guide, when you enter an area where Infectors will appear destroy or remove all entact corpses. As an example, entering the crew deck down the sloped passage way, kinesis ALL the corpses into the passage way. Thus when the Infectors arrive they have no corpses to convert.

Just completed this, and honestly I think just holding on to the plasma cutter is the way to go. That way you only have one upgrade path to focus on, and there are enough nodes to fully update both the suit (up to level 5) and the plasma cutter in one playthrough. Never had to spend extra credits on ammo, only on health packs. The fully upgraded plasma cutter is good enough for most enemies in the game (other than the swarms, I just deal with them by spamming A and healing afterwards).

The environmental traps felt more dangerous mainly because of the insta-kill, but save scumming and quitting immediately still works, and honestly makes this no different from hard difficulty.

Other than that, I only backtracked a bit for the Premeditated Malpractice side mission to get the prototype stasis that melts enemies so that their limbs were easier to shoot off. Can't say if this was essential, but it saves quite a bit of ammo for the tougher necromorphs that usually take multiple shots to shoot off 1 limb and requires dismembering multiple limbs.

I only died once in my whole playthrough and it was from the rotating lasers you need to stasis. I slowed them, ran through them, and got surprised by the necro that spawns directly ahead. I backed up just a touch too far and they got me. Obviously I paused and quit out because restarting the game because of that would be pointless

Personally I thought this difficulty was the perfect way and done correctly. My opinion of course, for my wants out of a game, so 45 years into my gaming career.

And yes I Am one who complained about difficulty related Achievements. Which is to say I don't appreciate them as I'm waiting for one on some game at some point to Not unlock. Like my myriad of other glitched out chievos, such as get all other achievement achievements. That's My issue that I have with difficulty related achievements. Not the difficulty but the sorry way that glitched achievements are just brushed off anymore.

And I know, I don't HAVE to play the game on the hardest mode not do I HAVE to get the achievement.

I'd just like to see better accountability when it comes to fixing said glitched/ broken achievements.

The funny thing is, when people say "I stopped reading at a certain point," they never actually mean it. And it matters not, because the rest of what I wrote just add ambiance to the first paragraph you claim to have prioritized over the rest of what I wrote. My point was made there.

Let me explain it in simpler terms: Whiners about how difficult something is is like a gentleman I work with. I often claim he is stuck in grade school mentally (even though he is not like that) because of what he says and does, and always says that whatever happens to him is everyone else's fault. He nailed this point home when he told me one day when he had to do homework, he didn't want to complete his spelling work, and asked his parents how to spell the words he needed to complete it. Like normal, caring parents, they proceeded to show him how to sound out the words and such, and he continued to get more and more frustrated and mad at them because they would not give him the answers. To this day, he still hates them for this and can't understand why they would just not give him the answers instead of helping him get to the the answers on his own.

Another example: kids trying to get their student loans expunged. Give me a break...

Stop saying things are too difficult. LIFE is difficult. Get over it and solve your own problems and stop complaining because it's too hard for you. No one cares and it makes the rest of us laugh at you, especially over a video game. laugh

And Pillars of Eternity is so fu**ed that you have to leave the game and system powered on for the duration of the 100+ hours to complete it. If you shut it off, the system resets achievement progress for nearly all achievements. And That dev said fuck you we're not fixing it. Yet it's still sold on the m$ store
I'm sure there are a couple others but yeah, I keep waiting for the pin to drop on one the hardest difficulty achievements locking up too

So after attempting this achievement the last couple days I've determined it's not that hard. Just have to keep the basics in mind.. know where you're going to be attacked, and spam exiting out before the death sequence is completed. It works and I haven't restarted on impossible difficulty yet. I'm in chapter 4 already, and have barely any health. I lost most of my health near the beginning when you have to use the claws on the tram in chapter 1. That room was perhaps the most difficult part for me but that has been in. Yes, I've died but that's just because I've been taking chances that don't pay off atm

I recommend doing what I'm doing... use stasis as much as you can and starting swinging with the plasma cutter or stomping. Most of the time you can kill a necromorph with this strategy and I've killed 2 at a time doing this sometimes.

Or use the many, many, many weapons they leave around for you in the game. Explosive canisters, fan vents (knock them out of the wall and kenesis them), necromproh limbs, stasis containers, or spears. Use them every chance you get. As I said I've barely fired my plasma cutter. I've upgraded the damage and capacity on my PC but waited until my clip was emptyEfore before upgrading the capacity (I fired my PC when I knew a bench was coming up otherwise it wasn't used except for swinging so far.)

Another amazing trick i just found out was this... you know the pipes you can kenesis off the wall and throw into enemies? Well not only are they an instant kill for nearly every enemy, but you can reuse them again and again. After pinning a necromorph with one I carry it around and save my game. When you reload the necromorph that was stuck to it is gone but the pipe can be used again.
I've done this several times with only one pipe and only abandoned the pipe after I lost it in space or down a shaft or something. Basically unlimited ammo if you do it right.


As another poster said, I feel the hard-core achievement on Dead Space 2 was far more difficult. This has been a legit breeze so far.

EDIT: Pro Tip: definitely get the weighted blades for your PC AND also the stasis prototype... that thing is amazing! ... It kills the swarms instantly and in chapter 8 when you meet 2 Guardians next to a doorway I shot both of them with stasis and not only did it slow them down but killed them both. ONE SHOT EACH.

So I beat this and got the cheevo last night. I got to the final boss with nearly 350 plasma rounds, 3 dozen stasis packs, 10 extra nodes, about 30 small health packs, 20 medium heal packs, and about 10 large health packs. And I NEVER bought any extra, even the power nodes. I had over $300,000 in credits too. The game literally throws way too much ammo and credits at you.

With that said, the toughest part, as with any impossible difficulty setting, is the beginning. Only because of low ammo and health and armor, but like I said earlier, I was meticulous and stingy with my ammo...I RARELY ever fired my PC unless I had to. I used stasis religiously, and spammed the save station. Other than that I ONLY swung my PC or stomped on enemies to kill them. And once you get the stasis prototype (that electrifies enemies) and the weighted blades, the rest of the game is a breeze.

A couple of other tips: the weighted blades are AMAZING against the Hunter, and once you knock him down most encounters you can simply run into another room and he won't chase you there. For instance, late in the game before you fry him with the shuttle's engines, when you meet him in the poison gas room I waited for him at the exit door (grab the battery for the elevator before shooting the infected bulb that summons him in the first place), knocked him to the floor with my weighted blades, and left the area. He didn't follow me into the next room to battle the 3 necromophs that battle you there.

Also, the Marker slows down everything when you're near it. It's like a giant stasis amplifier. After Dr. Kyne asks you to get to the shuttle before Mercer comes back you battle more necromorphs in the large damaged Atrium area. I simply stood next to the Marker, let the necromophs come to me, then beat them down with the weighted blades as they slowly tried to get back up again. I also did this every chance I got later as you are transporting the Marker through the cargo hold to the pedestal at the end.

One more tip: before the final hive mind fight, when you are moving the Marker onto the pedestal and before you find out about Nicole, you are swarmed by wave after wave of necromorphs, and have to battle the large tentacles as well. I stayed in the left corner (when facing towards the pedestal, the corner to your left), and let all the necromoprhs come to me. Of course you have to blow up 2 of the infected bulbs before you can get to that corner, but this last area was a breeze from there. Stasis, weighted blades, and shoot only when you need to. Even the large tentacles couldn't pound me in that spot.

So don't let the "impossible" word deter you before you even try it. This was far too easy primarily because you can use as many saves as you want. I must have saved 200 times in this run. Finally, the other poster had it correct when they said that Dead Space Hardcore was far more difficult. I would rate this difficulty not even in the same ball park. 100%

Guys, this isn't that bad. Hard was a fair challenge, basically what Normal should have been. 'Impossible' is just hard but you "can't" die.

I think people who are complaining are not playing into the game economy enough. You will always have way too much ammo at all times if you play smart with telekinesis and stomp. That means you should always sell surplus to buy more nodes for upgrades or health packs if you're low on hp. You don't even need to conserve it that much to rack up clips upon clips. No point in storing surplus ammo for later because you'll always have enough. Sell it and buy stuff to make you stronger asap.

They die in one hit with the Stasis Prototype upgrade that you get for completing the tissue sample side quest. Simply stasis and forget when you come across one. You can finish the side quest and grab the prototype as early as Chapter 7 or 8.

If you have only just died and are very quick, apparently you can quit out and reload your save, but if you’re too slow, it will be lost. It’s best to recognise when you’re struggling and quit out before you die.

On some games you can do a little trick where you play the game offline, then connect to the internet when you want to make a save. Make your save, exit the game, and load it back up so it goes onto the cloud. Then go back offline and play until you feel comfortable about making your next save. If you mess up, delete your save BEFORE YOU GO ONLINE, go back online, load up your previous save that was made onto the cloud.

Then again, maybe I'm misunderstanding how this achievement works.

I managed to do it legitimately with 0 deaths, not even near deaths.

I used the plasma cutter and the rifle. When i unlocked the force gun, i removed all upgrades from the rifle and used them on the force gun.

I scavenged a lot. I obtained the prototype stasis which is very op. Its a must and easy to obtain. Combines pretty well with plasma cutter and force gun.

At the end, i reseted the upgrades of the force gun and i maxed the pulse rifle and the contact beam.

Use the contact beam for the hive minds weak spots at the start and at the final phase. Use the plasma cutter for the regular enemies after applying stasis to them. Use the rifle's grenade launcher for the 5 spots in the boss's belly.

Watch out for the bug on Chapter 3 where you are refuelling north and south. My game got stuck with the action done but not registered so couldn't progress and with one save I had no way to go back.

Just completed it last night. Very bum twitchy in places. If I can offer any advice it would be not to go beyond level 3 suit - You don't need it. Use kinesis on limbs for projectiles and upgrade plasma/ripper/flamethrower (excellent for 1 alt fire shot wall guys) and the force gun. Where I could, I kited enemies into a group, held them with stasis and then alt fire force gun, plus alt fire flamethrower. Didn't leave a lot standing after that barrage :)

Yes, this remastered version was good, but it paled in comparison to the originaly. I actually returned it after getting all achievements. Impossible mode was fun, but like I mentioned above, I have WAY too much ammo and health by halfway through the game. It's insanely easy to kill most enemies with just knocking them away and stasis. They made that much more powerful than in the original. It's a shame really...probably dumbed it down for the people that can't handle a harder difficulty, just like they did for Resident Evil 3 remake by allowing the rocket launcher to be available after 1 playthrough. Resident Evil 2 remake was too difficult for some people, and they complained, and ruined Resident Evil 3 remake.

While this game was better on Impossible mode than Resident Evil 3 was, it was a let down. Far too easy to get this achievement.

Leaper has a weak point. It’s a „wrist” of his „hand”. I kill them on Hard by TWO shots of Plasma Cutter. Use Stasis and mark on a wrist - you see the results.

No, there is no auto-use of Medkits. I feel it would have been appropriate to use them in a totally new game, but for authenticity, they couldn’t do it.

Is this something that can be confirmed? I have played this game and the original and have NEVER heard of this being more than an aesthetic affect. The difference is so minute it's not even worth mentioning unless it is confirmed.

As I stated in my walkthrough, it is far, far simpler to go through the game with just the plasma cutter (and that way you can knock off several achievements at the same time)...and use the swing and stomp attacks. They updated these 2 attacks so that they are ridiculously powerful in this version of the game. I literally sold plasma ammo in my plasma cutter round because I did not need it. Also, use those spears lying around (There are dozens of them everywhere!) as they are a near instant kill on most enemies. Again they upgraded this in this version of the game as well.

Impossible mode was so ridiculously easy with these steps. You do NOT need any other weapons.

Think you are massively overstating the difficulty and making it sound way more complicated than it is, stick to the plasma cutter and go from save to save, if you feel like you’re going to die just hit start and quit and reload the save, doesn’t seem any punishment doing that game loads on impossible still.

I’ve got through first 4 chapters doing that practically on a no hit run cause even if I take a hit I’m reloading as I think I could do better and don’t want to waste health packs.

Other thing aswell except rooms where you have to fight just statis a enemy and run

@LIWC that was my plan to avoid restarting. I imagine it's possible the same as PowerPyx's guide for PS5 suggesting to use cloud saves if desired. I was going to test it if I'd had to but fortunately don't need to. DS2 stressed me the fuck out with these kind of achievements. (Still got the final section I've yet to complete but going to attempt again soon). You just need to be careful between switching to playing online/offline.

@OneBgBdArtemis imo keep going with that. It's a reasonable strategy. I went with continuing on hard because I knew I'd go through 2 playthroughs for the NG+ achievements. Was thinking by that time I'd be ready to breeze through an impossible with some precautions.

I really hate when developers put those "don't die at all" achievements in the game. In the OG game we could use cheats and it wouldn't avoid the achievement, probably can't in this game.

Also in some games, if you delete the data on the xbox when you die, it doesn't reset the game, like with those Ironman acheivements in the gears of war franchise, wonder if anyone can test it out.

You don't HAVE to play it on the hardest difficulty...you know you better than anyone, get over it already. Stop b*tching because you are too transparent to invest time in a game that is "too hard" for you, and yet you have time to go on message boards and complain about it?

YOU babies are the reason why Resident Evil 3 remake was so bad. RE2 remake was amazing! REAL GAMERS understood how difficult it was to unlock unlimited ammo weapons in the game, but you brats come along and complained and they "dumbed it down" for the RE3 remake and allowed EVERYONE to get unlimited ammo weapons much more easily.

STOP RUINING games for everyone else. If you don't like it, are too much of a wimp, or have invalid opinions about why developers put impossible difficulties and nearly impossible tasks to get unlimited ammo, THEN DON'T PLAY THE GAME. SImple. Or just move on from it.

I know you babies will come back with retorts about why this post is wrong, but they are all irrelevant. If you invest as much time in a game to get said difficult achievements as you do pondering your pathetically written and invalid complaints, then you might actually get somewhere like the rest of us.

Same. Although in my opinion, I think this was made easier by having better controls. The better Series X controller lends itself to being able to play these better. Don't get me wrong, this was sufficiently difficult. In fact I would say any harder and I'd of not enjoyed it but I would instead of viewed it as a chore.
So hopefully if they do do Dead Space 2 remake, I hope they don't get the bright idea like all other devs to turn the difficulty up. That gets aggravating and ceases to be a challenge, just makes me regret playing it in the first place

Be careful of the games Engine, as mentioned in the guide. Do not engage with an action whilst a cinematic or non-player event (including radio discussions) is taking place.. it has a habit of soft locking the game.

To thwart Infectors, stomp on corpses you see until their head comes off, then they can't be transformed.

It might be tedious, but it'll cut down on enemy encounters. Also, it makes the Infector beeline to you instead, so be ready.

I personally find it's well worth going for the Prototype Stasis Module. It requires only small detours of you (once for putting the probe into the reader in medical, once for hearing the report on the bridge, and finally getting the upgrade in hydrophonics). If you do these detours once they become available you will only encounter randomized standard encounters. I'd say it took me 10min altogether. The upgraded stasis halves the amount of shots you need to dismember a limb. Oh, and it will one-shot kill the swarms of little enemies, AND one-shot kill the tentacle monsters that hang on walls if you let them marinate in the stasis for a few seconds.

For anyone that has already played dead space 1-3, even if it was a while ago, I recommend just starting off on impossible mode. I didn't remember any controls but quickly got the hang of everything, you don't have to do an entire play through to get the hang of it.

The reason I recommend starting on impossible mode, is so you don't have that cloud hanging over you the entire time you play, and also so you don't have to play the game 3 times. On my new game+ playthrough, I'll have the hand cannon and I can focus on all the other achievements, I also did all the side missions during my impossible mode run xD. It really isn't that bad. You can quickly press start and quit to menu if you find yourself in a bind, even instant death areas you can press pause pretty quickly and get out of that situation if you end up dying in one of them. The game is significantly easier than the original version imo. I also did my plasma cutter only run on during my impossible mode run, and I also used the force-gun strategy to get a lot of forcegun ammo to sell to have enough credits to upgrade everything in the next playthrough. Yes all these things will handicap you but it's better than playing 3 times, you'll burn out!

Yeee just I myself reccomend impaling a lot more. And early on you can actually sell things. By the time I got to the hive mind I had maxed the force gun, ripper, plasma cutter and suit with 200k to spend. I reccomend the ripper for the sole reason that 1 blade generally can kill any enemy and it stumbles them away. Just make sure to launch it before the blade runs out for some extra damage. I never kept spare ripper ammo just always sold it for a nice juicy amount. I stopped buying nodes around chapter 6, as your suit is tip top and plasma cutter is good to go.

One of the things which not many players seem to know, is that the remake incorporates much more intricate enemy designs and as a result there is a new stripper system in addition to the amputation system. This isn't explained in the game to the best of my knowledge so understandable that many people will have missed this.

Obviously the amputation system is the way you cut off limbs just like the original.

However enemies now have added muscle tissue to their bodies and it's not just for graphical details and aesthetics. The muscle tissue actually provides enemies with extra protection, hence why they can seem to tank so much damage at times. If you can strip an enemy of their muscle tissue their bones become exposed and they will take fewer shots to cut off.

Weapons fall under two categories - precision; and stripper. Precision weapons are things like the Plasma Cutter or the Pulse Rifle (primary fire). Stripper weapons are things like the Flamethrower or Force Gun.

Watch closely when you use a Flamethrower or a Force Gun on an enemy. Even a short burst of flames will damage and strip away the muscle tissue. The enemy will look skinnier and the bones will be exposed. If you switch to a precision afterwards you can cut off their limbs in far fewer shots.

If you only use the Plasma Cutter on Impossible mode, while it's doable, you will notice that enemies will take many more shots to kill. and ammo can become short.

But if you go for this hybrid approach and bring along a weapon for stripping muscle tissue, you can conserve ammo and make alot of fights easier.

Also just to add that the Plasma Cutter has an upgrade which applies burn damage over time and this helps to strip muscle tissue too. Also the Stasis Module has an upgrade from one of the side quests which also applies additional strip damage to the stasis effects too.

I haven't finished the mode yet, but I have to say, a lot of the tension of upgrading can be removed entirely by exploiting the pulse rifle as a source of money. Basically, wait until you have two upgrades for the pulse rifle then pull 13 nodes off of other stuff and upgrade its capacity. ONE NODE AT A TIME. Every time you upgrade the capacity, empty your rifle via the proximity mines and then return the mines to ammo and pick it up. DO NOT RELOAD. Simply add another capacity node and the gun will fill with ammo from the ether. Using this method you can get 10's of thousands of credits in a few minutes by selling the ammo and it only costs 5,000 to respec the nodes and do it again. The best place I know to do this is the sales kiosk at the hangar tram as there's a bench right through the door that leads to medical and enemies don't spawn in the tram station and rarely spawn in the area with the workbench (though you can hear them down below). I also did this on the bridge, but enemies will fairly often spawn in the corridor with the sales kiosk and for some reason, the smoke effect in that hallway is cumulative, so the longer you're in the area the denser it gets until the hallway is basically opaque. The upshot is, you can fully upgrade as many weapons as you want by doing this and buy whatever health packs or ammo you need, at least until they think of a way to patch it out.

This is just my own observations on a what is is good guide.

1 - Weapon-wise, I ran Plasma Cutter, Flamethrower, and Pulse Rifle. I did not carry a fourth weapon. The Flamethrower, in my opinion, is the absolute best weapon in the game when you must hold off multiple enemies. Enemies on fire will eventually freeze in place, unable to advance while they panic. Nearly every ambush the game throws at you I survived using kinesis and either the cutter or the rifle until an enemy was in flamethrower range, and then I cooked everything. The final necromorph battle which occurs in the middle of the Hive Mind fight I used exclusively the flamethrower and they never touched me.

2 - I don't think much danger exists in doing the side missions. You won't see much danger backtracking - perhaps two or three enemies, but nothing major. The hunter research mission gets you the prototype stasis module, which definitely helps in the later part of the game. Getting the Master Override access also gets you some weapon upgrades, which might be crucial depending on what weapons you run. The upgrades also get you Nodes, which are useful even if you aren't upgrading the weapon in question. Sometimes you'll get the Ruby Semiconductor - which is worth a Node or a Large Health Pack: also valuable.

3 - Against Guardians - when you initially face them they will extend all their tentacles at once. If you are quick, stasis them and then hit them with a pulse grenade, a thrown explosive, or rush them with the flamethrower. You should be able to get all the tentacles at once before the stasis ends.

4 - Sometimes, you will be ambushed in a room with two levels accessible by elevator. If the elevator works, it is often worth your time to fight the ambush on the catwalks above the room. You can control the area better if they can only come at you from two directions, especially if you're using Fire Walls, Laser Traps, or Pulse Grenades. Fighting on the ground, often with tables and other obstructions, is sometimes messy when you're getting swarmed.

5 - When you know there is going to be an ambush or boss fight, like the Leviathan, and you can see all the loot, COLLECT IT FIRST before triggering the ambush or boss fight. Then go back to a save station and make a save. It will save you lots of time if you have to exit and reload.

This Achievement is easier than you think, so stop overthinking it. I suggest you do your first playthrough on normal so you can understand each level and what to expect. After that start the impossible run, it will be a NEW SAVE so you will have nothing. Save the Game every chance you get!

If you're about to DIE or DYING, press the START button as fast as you can, select BACK TO MAIN MENU, then LOAD GAME. This will make it so you keep your IMPOSSIBLE run active, because if you die and the game saves you will get reverted to the HARD difficulty and won't unlock the endings HAND CANON and BURNISHED SUIT.

Use only the PLASMA CUTTER for the ACHIEVEMENT named ONE GUN as well. Place every other weapon in the STORE STORAGE. This will also make it so only PLASMA ENERGY/MED PACKS/CREDITS spawn from dead enemies.

Level up your SUIT and PLASMA CUTTER as you go through the game. Forget about SECONDARY MISSIONS, SCHEMATICS and MASTER OVERRIDE, do that on your next playthrough when you have the HAND CANON and blast every mf with some BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! GOOD LUCK! I DIED 2 TIMES, THIS GAME ISNT HARD AT ALL!

THE EASIEST WAY TO FINISH MOST OF DEAD SPACE:
2 Words

Stasis & Stomp.
Preserves ammo - Stasis is free and Isaac has an infinite amount of carbs in his system.

Stomping just like manners, costs you nothing.
General rule: If 1 enemy is present, stasis and stomp
If 2 enemies are present, stasis and stomp.

If more than one enemy is present, focus on cutting movement out

I will put a video on YouTube since people keep firing at single enemies and wasting ammo which is expensive. People need to play this game like a businessman. What makes and costs money and what does not.
Always run back to refill on stasis even if it is a ballache. Better stasis than dead

You are drowning in ammo in this game so just use it.
Most of the time if you use 4 Cutter ammo you get 6 back from the enemy corpse anyway.
No need to stomp everything.

Kudos to you if you DID beat Impossible with just the Plasma Cutter, but that's a terrible strategy. The Force Gun is easy to use, gives you breathing room, and kills smaller enemies that attack you in groups more efficiently.

I wouldn't say Plasma Cutter only is a terrible strategy. It's very viable, I only ever died once because I flew into an instant kill by accident while fighting something. Force Gun for sure can be useful though, but the whole Plasma Cutter only thing isn't terrible.

This will work till they PATCH this exploit.

Real quick here. If you want to survive IMPOSSIBLE there is a simple trick. I have probably died like 6 times so for as you start off pretty weak with your suit and plasma cutter till you get enough nodes to upgrade them but I have NEVER reset back to the start yet. You got maybe 2 seconds to do this but the second you die just hit the small black button below the xbox button on the right side of the controller this will bring up a PAUSE/MENU screen where you can reload the last checkpoint. Now Electronic Games probably figured out people could do this in IMPOSSIBLE mode and they have made the LOAD LAST CHECKPOINT un-useable here but you just have to hit GO BACK TO HOMEPAGE or whatever (the bottom choice on this screen) and from here you can load the LAST CHECKPOINT by hitting CONTINUE and get back into the IMPOSSIBLE mode of the game, So when you are playing at every SAVE LOCATION make sure you save your game so you will not get reset back to far in the game when you die. You have to be quick with the button press might only be 2 seconds to hit the button but it will stop your death scene from finishing and you can reload your last checkpoint and keep going on IMPOSSIBLE. Like I said I have died likely 20 times so far and I am still going have not beat this yet but this trick is AWESOME.

Well I have finished IMPOSSIBLE did it on my first try. I died like 10 times but used the trick and did this no problem. fairly easy but a little time consuming. I probably reset the game before dying 15 times when I got overwelmed and got my ass kicked but since I was saving at every save location I just reloaded and tried again. This helped as I knew what I was in for and from where the necros would come from. I did this using just the PLASMA CUTTER and FORCE GUN and nothing else but you should still pick everything up and put it in storage as when you find one of weapon mods for each weapon when you use the work bench and activate it it gives you a NODE as well. I filled every NODE slot on the PLASMA CUTTER and FORCE GUN as well as SUIT #5 by the end. At the start focus on HP in the suit and once maxed then do the plasma cutter cause the necros are a 2 or 3 hit kill on you at the start. The force gun is for when you get swarmed, if it is one on one use the plasma cutter. Plenty of ammo never ran out but did have to buy some a few times. HELPFUL HINT the last boss HIVE MIND at the end try and just hit the body on the necros that have that one arm as a bomb to save the bomb there are 2 of them during that sequence and once you get it off them move it to the side as the arm slam will destroy them, now use these on the boss's internal orbs in his chest it will take out 2 or 3 of them in one shot this will make this part go quicker and be easier. ADVICE at the end the achievement will pop BEFORE the actual end and if you quit out here you will lose you game save at the end and miss out on all the great gear you will get, so make sure you watch till the end and also watch all the credits not sure but think you have to do this as well. I just put a weight on the Y button and came back in 10 minutes it will tell what cool gear you will get when you play NEW GAME +. Well hope this helps you guys. And if you try this and it does not work cause they patched it PLEASE send me a message so I can update his solution for everyone. Thanks.

Bloody hell. Not only does Impossible difficulty see enemies taking less damage, and Isaac taking more (just like hard mode), it also limits you to a single save file. And if you die? Well, say goodbye to that save file forever, you’ll have to start right from the beginning on Impossible Mode again.

It’s a tough old time, but there are some tricks and tips you can use to make things just a little easier.

The most important piece of advice we can give you is this - IF YOU DIE, PAUSE IMMEDIATELY. The moment that an enemy kills you and you hear Isaac flatlining, pause the game. Dead Space allows you to pause, even midway through a death animation, and the game won't have counted it as a death yet.. From here, choose to return to the main menu, and you should find that you can load up your Impossible save from the last save point once again. If you can pause and quit just before you die, even better, but if the worst happens, you should still be able to quickly quit out and not have this playthrough ruined - it worked for us during an infuriating accidental death in Chapter 12, so it should work for you as well.

You’ve got to be very careful. You’ll want to save at basically every save point you see, and if a battle starts to get away from you, just immediately quit out. After two playthroughs, you should have a good idea of where Necromorphs spawn from, but if you do get ambushed and lose too much health, or use up too much ammunition, just quit and reset, ready to try again. Health and ammunition are at a premium on this difficulty setting, so you don’t want to end up in a situation where you can’t possibly win.

Speaking of ammunition being at a premium, you’re going to want to make heavy use of Stasis and Kinesis. Stasis can be great for freezing a group of enemies and simply running past them, especially in areas where you have a recharge station nearby, is hugely helpful to save on ammunition, with most enemies unable to follow you through closed doors into another room. Kinesis, meanwhile, is an ideal way to make the most of your surroundings, and save up your ammunition. Keep an eye out for poles or pipes on the wall with a slight blue glow at the end, which can be ripped out and used to pin necromorphs.
