How to unlock the Upper Echelon achievement in Defiance Free to Play - Definitive Guide

Must be 100 human players killed. Hit right on the d-pad then go to matchmaking and it will give you a choice to select competitive maps. Kill 100 players throughout you career and this will unlock. I recommend leveling up in the regular game first because everyone brings their leveled/modded weapons and perks into this game mode. If you are a low level with bad weapons and no perks you may have a tough time.

I'd recommend Shadow War. More people to kill that are more likely to be distracted by objectives.

This is not a solution but more of advice to new comers to the game. As mentioned by Felix Pie, if you're not going to boost, avoid the Multiplayer until you have got some decent perks and weapons. The Veterans of this game have a huge gear gap over the new comers and it will make your life very difficult if you do not take time to prepare.

In addition to the above, cloak will be your best friend in this game's horrible PvP. Not only is it near perfect, but with the correct perk set up you can one shot most players with a Courier or Zagger.

Here are my recommendations for PvP, it should be noted that the Bio Nano is favoured due to the fact that it slows you down immensely when it takes. This can be countered by rolling until the "poop shoes" wear off.

Weapons of choice in this mode are as follows:

Canker: Think the Needler from Halo, fires limited homing projectiles that either damage over time or spawn bugs for good damage. The Canker is also a great counter weapon for cloaked players.

VBI SO-2 Courier with Quartermaster Synergy: Shotgun with a sticky grenade that explodes after a few seconds. This weapon takes some getting used to but when mastered the payoff is awesome.

Zagger with Quartermaster Synergy and 0.0 reload: A Very, very powerful shotgun. Will most likely put enemies down in one, if you do need 2, thats where the 0.0 reload comes in.

Castithian Springer with Assassin Synergy: An SMG with high rate of fire, huge mag and almost no recoil. Very good for firing off the hip. Even better if you can headshot like a boss with Gunslinger.

I would recommend a rocket launcher as your secondary. I actually use a Qaurtermaster Precise Chaos with Speedboost on Full Reload as my main.

For shields I recommend a Rebel or Respark with either Bullseye or Regenerator. Rebels and Respark have a very quick recharge rate as opposed to other shields with higher capacity If you're good with headshots, then Bullseye offers Crit Multiplier when the shield breaks. For example, I have a purple Tachyon Bullseye which offers a +5% Crit Multipler, which would be awesome when combined with an Assassin Synergy Springer. (Assassin Synergy gives the weapon up to a +4% Crit Multiplier when modded with Assassin Synergy Mods.) Regenerator on the other hand offers a HP Regen buff which, in my opinion is practically useless for the simple fact that if you are targeted, it is unlikely that the effect will kick in before you're killed.

If you intend to go with a Rocket Launcher or any other explosive weapon as your main, then I would recommend a Rebel/Respark Blastproof which grants you a percentile reduction (based on shield model) to your own explosives. Very handy for close quarter rocket kills.

Hatchling Grenades are also the only way to go in PvP.

As for perk and power set up, I would recommend the following:

Cloak EGO Power with the following Perks:

1. Shadowed Strike: +30% Damage while cloaked. Note, this applies to the first shot as any weapon fired breaks the cloak until you stop.

2. Gunslinger: +12% Crit Multiplier while firing from the hip. Try to avoid scoped or quick aiming as it will slow you down and lead to death. Firing off the hip is the best way to go.

3. Sucker Punch: +15% Damage to Enemies from Behind.

4. Shadows Core: -9% Charge time of Cloak Ego Power.

5. Infiltrator: Extends Cloak's active time by +6 Seconds.

6. Cellular Armour: -6% Damage

7. Thick Skinned: Gain +4 Plates of Ablative Armour on Shield Break.

8. Failsafe: Take Less Damage while Shield recharges.

9. Killing Spree: On a kill, extend the duration of the active EGO power for a duration of +6%.

Now I am aware that this may not be the most efficient build but it works for me. If there are any questions or comments, advice or better builds, please do not hesitate to add them in the comments. Additionally, this build relies on having some perks that aren't within range of the Cloak Power. In other words, do some leveling up before going into PvP!

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps anyone struggling with the broken PvP.

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

Needs to be done in any of the Player versus Player (PvP) modes. This is accumulative, so it doesn’t have to be done in 1 match.

To start a PvP match, press and go to matchmaking. Select Competitive Maps/Shadow War and choose a map or quick match. Alternatively, you can press , hold , go to matchmaking and use to open the Competitive/Shadow War tab. There’s no lobby system, you’ll queue up instead and can keep playing the game.

You can check your progress, by pressing , hold and go to Pursuits. Select Season One, Competitive Multiplayer, Climbing the Ranks of Echelon II.

This is unlocked by killing 100 players in competitive PvP and Shadow War. You will certainly get this when going for the 10 wins on each map and the different kills in Shadow War.
