Make a spell combination of Death Hex + Death Cloud for instant 250 damage.

From the ingame codex:
Entropic Death - Perhaps the victims would say it makes no difference, since those afflicted by a Death Hex already know there is little hope of survival, but they should avoid a Death Cloud at all costs if they do not wish to hasten the process: Merely touching the edge of the cloud is enough to set off a deadly reaction that deals truly massive spirit damage to the subject of the hex.

how do you make a spellcombo?

By Major Alenko on 07 Nov 2009 12:56
very simple: make sure the target is afflicted by both spells, so if u put Death Hex on a target, quickly put Death Cloud on him too (or vice versa) before the Death Hex has run out. A spellcombo are spells that enhance eachothers effects.

So when they say Main Character, they mean the character you control? Not who you start out playing as?

You may find it helpful to put the rest of your party on hold (in the 'Advanced' commands) so that they don't bugger things up by killing the guy you just put a hex on.

Got this at level 6 (playing as mage), just after recruiting Morrigan hahaha. I ran into some darkspawn, casted death cloud on top of them, then casted death hex and the achievement unlocked.

Very good guide.

It seems you can do this with help from another character. I had Velanna from awakening cast Death Hex and my mage did Death Cloud. So I believe as long as your character (mage anyway) casts the last spell it should work.

just to add, in case this isnt obvious, but you first must either use death hex, then wait for the purple bar to hit max and the spell hits, then hit death cloud right away; if you try to hit death cloud while the purple bar is filling the spell it wasted and it doesnt work

but done properly, I did 369 damage

Once you have unlocked the Berserker Warrior class specialization, simply put talent points in it until you get Final Blow. As you are leveling up be sure to put your attribute points into Willpower, to get the most for your money so to speak in regards to Final Blow. Activate Berserk, use Final Blow against a foe with plenty of health. I unlocked this achievement in Redcliffe against an Ogre doing 294 damage. At the time, I had approximately 30 Willpower.

I'm assuming this works with a character who uses 2handed weapons? b/c it sure as heck doesn't work with a sword/shield warrior.

Actually DragonFangDan, I got this one using a sword/shield warrior. I managed to get it after beating the main story and within about 5 minutes of starting Awakening. You certainly need better stats to get it with a sword/shield but with the extra level progression through dlc it is certainly possible, and is probably possible without the dlc is you have the right character build.

I recommend using Mana Clash. This is how I unlocked this achievement. The spell is completely broken. By mid-late game, it is a one-shot kill against a caster with full mana. Used against one of the Emissaries in the final battle, it will do upwards of 450-600 in a single hit if you can hit them before they cast anything. Plus it's an AOE that has no casting delay, so it makes mage heavy conflicts like the abandoned warehouse into cakewalks.

Theres many methods but what worked perfectly for me was been around level 18? i think with a rouge archer, using Aim and arrow of slaying 300+ damage easy

Please be aware that there are spoilers for the Awakening DLC in this solution. You may or may not want to continue reading.

I got this achievement in the following way:

I saved Amaranthine, I sided with the Architect when he came to talk to me. During the fight with the Mother, I cleared out all the small enemies and then used the Architect's special ability on the Mother. (Hold down left trigger, select special and then the Architect's special ability).

As soon as the ability hit, the achievement popped. There was no need for any special builds or character classes or anything.

For the curious, I was a dagger-specialised Rogue.

I hope this helps!

I used Arrow of Slaying to get this achievement in Origins on my dexterity/cunning rogue archer build. I took strength and willpower to 20, constitution to 15, and dumped everything else pretty evenly into dexterity and cunning after getting the Lethality talent.

I've also gotten over 250 damage by using Mana Clash. For that character, I took dexterity and cunning to 20, constitution to 15, and everything else into willpower and magic with magic getting slightly more points than willpower.

In both instances my characters were level 18+, so you're looking at mid to late game before being able to get the achievement. The numbers I came up with for my stat builds were just what felt right to me, so they're not an absolute must have for either of these talents to cause that kind of damage. I'm sure there are better builds to be found if anyone cared to look for them. I've listed mine just to give others an idea of what my character builds looked like when I was able to start causing over 250 damage off a single hit.

The Rogue skill Heartseeker does silly amounts of damage. I used it on a Shambling Skeleton as a final blow and managed to do 1300 points of damage somehow. I was level 28, and using weapons that consistently got me around 70-120 dmg per strike. It was ridiculous.

Edit: Foxfire49 is totally right, I should have mentioned that Heartseeker is only available in the Awakening expansion! Thanks, Foxy.

The easiest way of doing this for me was to use the spell mana clash, the spells damage differs to how much mana the enemy your attacking has. The higher level your character is the more mana and health enemy's will have. I was around the deep roads where i encountered a enemy with high enough mana. After the damage is done that is over 250 the achievement will unlock. :)

As a rogue:

Use a Tier 7 bow (requeres dex in the 30's), add a poison coating and use Arrow Of Slaying.

When you approach a gang of enemies, tell your companions to wait, then pick a target and fire. This way they won't "steal" your kill.

At level 16 this generated 260 damage.

From what i've found over my last play threw this is probably the best way to get this achievement without a problem.

If your using a warrior based character it will take more time to hit over 250 but it can be done. Once given the chance to learn a specialization learn "Berserker" then max it out until your able to use "Final Blow" one you have that all you need to do is use "Berserk" then "Final Blow" anytime you fight something with alot of health. My guys has 41 Str, 29 Dex, and 38 Will. The most i've hit with him is 266 so it can be done that way.

If your using a mage class things are very very simple for you in terms of getting this. As a mage you'll need to get "Death Cloud" and "Death Hex" which is located under "Entropy" at the bottom of the skills list. The way I did this was I set up "vulnerability Hex", "Death Hex", and "Death Cloud" in that order so I would hit high everytime. Each time I used this combo I hit AT LEAST 350 with 35 magic.

Your last option is using a rouge which like the mage is extremely easy to hit high with. All you need to do is get "Arrow of Slaying" which is obviously under "Archery" once you have that and high Dexterity you'll have no problem getting this. Even when using a regular arrow i've hit in the 400's my max being 533.

Hopefully this helps you if your not hitting to high in any of these classes. =]

This was a tough one for me because I chose the warrior route. So if you're going for this then do yourself a favor and pick a mage or rogue and use some of the suggestions above. If you are really hardpressed to do the warrior way then you need to make sure to get the beserker specialization from Oghren and put points into until you get final blow. The next trick is to up your willpower stat which increases stamina and which final blow depletes in order to execute. Drop as many points into that as reasonably possible and be on the lookout for and equip items that either increase your willpower or stamina, like the executioners helm, spellward or legion of the dead armor for example. It may also be wise to stick to two-hand weapons because of their higher damage, so stick with that weapon tree when leveling. Mauls, like the Chasind Great Maul from Gorim in Denerim is a great option because it ups your stamina by 75 and it has great damage and armor penetration. But it costs about 150 sovereigns so make sure you save up your cash for it. I didn't use the maul, but a long sword and shield and with about 40str, 30dex, 40wp and with final blow, I was able to hit 255 on a genlock alpha in the Alienage during the final battle. Hope this helps you warrior types.

This is a fast and easy way of getting the achievement if you have the Awakenings DLC. I was a Warrior around level 27/28. I'm posting this because it's very simple, took about 5 mins and not a lot of effort at all.

During the awakenings campaign the blacksmith guy at Vigils Keep has a book for sale which, when activated, allows you to re-allocate all your skill/talent/attribute points.
I saved the game, used this book and put ALL of my points into Strength. (Maybe a few on Dexterity if you need them for a talent)

Then I unlocked all of the Two-Handed weapon talents, Beserker and Warrior talents. The most obvious ones to get are ones that increase your strength or attack in battle. I equipped a two-handed sword of around 15/16 damage and any armour that boosts your strength/attack.

Then I went and had a fight! I activated any talents that boosted my performance and then let rip into the enemy. I used whatever powerful two-handed special moves I had and one of them did well over 250 damage. I did this against a wolf as I entered Blackmarsh (one with yellow writing above its name) but I guess any enemy with a bit of health, at any point in the game, would work the same, as long as you're a high level.

Tell you companions to stay where they are if you want so they don't get in the way and keep an eye on your health as you will take damage quickly with all your attribute points invested in strength. Hope this works for you as easily as it did for me!

Arrow Of Slaying consistently does insane damage, playing through the game as a Rogue archer with points in Dexterity makes this achievement basically inevitable. I went through two full playthroughs with warriors (logic being they're MEANT to do a lot of damage), but Arrow Of Slaying got me the achievement within 5 minutes of gaining it.

There are so many good solutions, I would not have added this one except that it's a very easy way to get an insane amount of damage. If you have a mage with Mana Clash, wait till you get to the Elven Alienage in the Final Onslaught. Fight the first battle and then proceed. There will be a barrier with an ogre and a lot of high powered darkspawns behind it. Before the ogre breaks the barrier, you can target the entire mass behind the barrier with Mana Clash. I've done it quite a few times. My best hit went for 1,624 damage.

Easiest way to get this trophy is to unlock the Mana Clash spell for the mage class and use it on a magical boss (or higher) enemy. Considering the high level magic needed to unlock the spell, it guarantees the needed damage.

As a Warrior and have a high strength and willpower. Get a two-handed weapon with runes on it to increase the damage you inflict. Have your party mates cast buffing spells on you. Use the Berserker skill “Final Blow”. Make sure you stamina bar is full as well.

As a Rogue, max out your Archery talents, especially the Pinning Shot line. Get to Arrow of Slaying as soon as you can. Use that talent in a fight and you'll easily do over 500 damage.

As a Mage, use Walking Virulent Bomb or Mana Clash on another Mage. Combining Spell Wisp, Spell Might, a high magic attribute, and two items that increases damage works as well (thanks to AstralBlades for that tip).

This needs to be done against one, single enemy. There have been quite a few times where I've damaged multiple opponents with my Mage or Rogue with damage well over 250. Remember, it's a single hit, not a single attack. You also need to do this with your main character. No switching to Shale. It won't count.

This Trophy is almost impossible to miss if you're playing as a Rogue.

Max out the Pinning Shot line of the Archery skill tree. It consists of Pinning Shot, Crippling Shot, Critical Shot and Arrow of Slaying.

The interesting skill here is Arrow of Slaying because of big damage numbers.

Have a decent amount of points pumped into Dexterity and use Arrow of Slaying on a standard enemy. You might be a few points short the first time you use it but with this it is no problem whatsoever to reach 500+ points of damage when you're a little higher in level.

I unlocked this fighting the Matriarch at the end of the Awakening story.
When facing the matriarch with the help of the Architect, you can use some special powers unlocked during the assault. One of them, fire based attack on a single target, made the trick when aiming the Matriarch.

You need to deal 250 damage in one hit to one enemy. In this case, the main character must inflict damage, and not someone from your squad.
If you play as a warrior you need to have the maximum possible strength and willpower. Next, you'll need the best two-handed weapon with damage runes. After which, the members of your group should cast strengthening spells on you, and you, with full stamina, use the berserker skill “Final Blow”.
If you play as a robber, then getting the achievement is much easier, just develop your archer skills to the maximum value, especially the “Pinning Shot” line, in order to gain access to “Arrow of Slaying” as quickly as possible. Using this skill you can easily deal more than 500 damage per shot.
The mage needs to use the magic "Walking Virulent Bomb" or "Mana Clash" on the enemy mage. If you combine them with “Spell Wisp”, “Spell Might”, high magic and a couple of items that increase damage, you will get the desired result.

In the Awakening expansion, if you side with the Architect before the final boss and agree to help him, he will give you the one-time spell “Strike the target with fire.” We use it on the boss and we get an achievement.
