How to unlock the Next-Level Luminary achievement in DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Guide
This trophy is awarded when your Hero reaches level 99.
While there is a lot of content in this game there is not nearly enough for you to reach level 99 naturally without any grinding whatsoever. Luckily the Metal Slime family has returned. If you aren't new to the franchise you'll know that Metal Slimes are notorious for awarding ridiculously high xp amounts but are also prone to fleeing and have such high defence that unless you score a critical hit chances are you won't kill them before they manage to run away. You will encounter various types of Metal Slimes while progressing through the game but there is also an extremely easy way to spawn them with the use of the Electro Light pep power. You can further enhance the experience drops with the Hallelujah pep power making the grind to level 99 for all characters a mere few hours. Keep in mind that this method is only available to use after you have been reunited with majority of your party members in Act 2 however is best left as a last resort after completing all other content in the game.
Preparation:
- Set your battle tactics to Follow Orders for all characters
- Make sure you've learnt the following abilities on these characters: Pep Up on your Hero, Lightning Thrust on Jade and Critical Claim on Erik.
- You will also need a healthy supply of Pep Pip items which should be equipped on Sylvando. You should have obtained a fair amount already from chests and quests but you can always buy more at Octagonia Casino for 125,000 tokens. At character levels 70+ in Act 3 (Post Game) you recoup the Pep Pip used after each successful attempt of this method.
- Find a location on a field that has a nearby campsite and weak enough enemies that you will be able to survive multiple attacks without needing to heal or be hindered by status effects. Defend continuously until you have the following characters pepped up: Erik, Jade, Rab and Sylvando. Switch in your Hero and use Pep Up then quickly finish or flee the battle. This will take around 5-10 minutes of continuous defending.
- Save your game. This is crucial as if anything goes wrong you will have to reload your save and you don't want to waste the time you spent preparing.
Method:
- Start the battle with Hero, Erik, Jade and Sylvando in your team.
- Use the Hallelujah pep power on your first turn to boost xp rates, gold dropped and guarantee item drops from all monsters.
- Swap Erik out for Rab.
- Use the Pep Up ability on Hero and get Sylvando to use a Pep Pip item on Jade.
- Use the Electro Light pep power to, hopefully, summon three slimes from the Metal Slime family. There is a small failure rate for this one that can result in summoning three Mechs instead. If this happens reload your save from earlier and try again.
- Swap Sylvando out for Erik.
- On Rab's turn use Dirge of Dundrasil pep power to attempt to put the Metal Slimes to sleep allowing you more chances to kill them before they flee.
- Attack only with the critical hit abilities mentioned earlier and defend with anyone else. You may want to reload your save if you fail to kill any of the slimes before they flee purely to get the highest xp possible from your preparation time. The choice is yours.
Some of the steps are interchangeable. For instance, you don't necessarily need to have Rab use Dirge of Dundrasil and can opt to just outright kill the slimes hoping they don't flee. You also have the option of swapping in other characters that know critical hit abilities but keep in mind they won't be able to act for a turn.
So first, preparation.
Erik must have the Critical Claim ability learned (when used, we are guaranteed to receive a critical hit). It is also very desirable that Jade have an ability - Lightning Thrust (this is also a critical hit, but there is a chance of a miss). Well, the "spoiler" character must also have learned the ability - Hatchet Man (analogous to Jade's ability). The Rab must have learned the pep skill - Dirge of Dundrasil. If Hero has the Pep Up ability, then that's good too.
You must have a Pep Pip (an item that, when used, instantly puts the character into a trance state). For one battle you need 2 pieces (if the hero has Pep Up, then the 1st one is enough). Give them to Sylvando. If you've been doing quests, you should already have a few of them. Otherwise, you can buy them for tokens at Octagonia Casino (not cheap, of course, 125,000), or at the Academy from the master of medals after filling the entire album (worth 10 medals).
1. We put the following characters in the main squad: Hero, Erik, Jade, Sylvando. We are looking for weak enemies who will not run away from you, next to the fire. We enter the battle and stand on defense. After a few minutes, the characters will begin to enter a trance state. Considering that this will not happen immediately for all characters who have entered a trance, we put them on the bench. First of all, we change to Rab, because he, too, must be put into a trance state. When the main group and Rab are in a state of trance, we end the battle.
2. Again we put Hero, Erik, Jade, Sylvando in the front line and be sure (!!!) to save .
3. We enter into battle with weak enemies who will not run away during the battle.
4. Use the Hallelujah pep skill (it uses everyone except Sylvando). This skill grants us increased experience (the most important thing), as well as more gold and items after the end of the battle.
5. Switch Eric to Rab.
6. Now we need to quickly put Jade and Hero into a trance. If Hero has the Pep Up ability, then he introduces himself. If not, both he and Jade are introduced to Sylvando by using Pep Pip items.
7. Now we use the Electro Light pep skill (it involves everyone except Rab) and changes the current monsters to metal slimes or metal robots. If robots arrive, then reload the save from step 2.
8. In theory, Rab should have the next move.
9. Rab must cast his pep skill Dirge of Dundrasil, which can put even metal slimes to sleep (although not 100% of all). This must be done because Metal slimes love to escape from the battlefield.
10. Now we change Sylvando to Erik and Hero to the “spoiler” character.
11. Now we attack only with critical abilities of Erica, Jade and the “spoiler” character. At the end we get a lot of experience.
Nuance. The types of metal slimes depend on the level of your characters. For example, the most experience-rich Royal Metal Slime comes only at later levels and waiting for it at the beginning of leveling is useless. Here's the sign.
1. Dundrasil region in the camp area.
2. Rewind time to night.
3. We are looking for black griffins and attacking.
4. We take GG + Erik + Jade + Sylvando into the party. First you need to put GG, Erik and Jade into pep up mode. We activate the Hallelujah spell in the pep up menu. (This increases the amount of experience gained after the battle).
5. We don’t attack the Griffin, we wait until the GG, Jade and Sylvando re-enter the pep up mode. Activate the Electrolight spell in the pep up menu. Instead of a griffin, two metal slimes and one metal king slime will appear. For killing you are given 500-700k experience.
To remove these enemies, I advise you to do the following:
Get the critical acclaim skill from Eric.
Jade has Thunder Thrust.
While the heroes enter pep up mode, place the activated characters in the back row, replacing them first with Rab. He has the pep-up ability to put even metal enemies to sleep, which will not be superfluous, because... even after the first move metal. the slimes are trying to escape.
You can speed up getting a pep-up by purchasing pep pins at the Octagonia casino.
