How to unlock the Island Paradise achievement in Fable III - Definitive Guide

**Many seem to be confused or think this achievement is glitched so I will sum up Rythmetic's great solution and explain the achievement's "randomness" more here for the newcomer's who don't want to read through all 20+ comments.**

First, you must enter the Millfields through Bowerstone and follow the path towards the lake. Once you get to the lake go right and up the hill towards the rocks that represent the Stonehenge as Rythmetic stated. Pay the man by the broken brigde *5000 (see update) and return later to cross the new bridge.
UPDATE ON BRIDGE COST (5/28/13): *It appears they have been continually changing the original payment of 5000; it was lowered to 750, it was FREE for a little while (credit: Zendozer), and now it seems to be back up to 750 (credit: Coinfrenzy, Nuka Cola Cap). I haven't played in some time, but the cost varies. Thanks for the updates guys!

Once that is done, there are 3 quests you have to complete to obtain this achievement. When you complete a quest, you will have to wait a little for the next to appear.

1. Rid Driftwood of Hobbes.
2. Take a letter to the carpenter in Silverpine (lots of balverines there).
3. Escort gambler from the upstairs of Bowerstone Market pub to Driftwood.

NOTE: Upon arriving to Driftwood, the gambler speaks of building things in the new found area (a casino for one) so he is definitely part of getting this achievement as he likely helps establish Driftwood into it's final stage.

Achievement explanation:
Having just received this achievement, I do not believe it is glitched like some think. It is simply about allowing time after you escort the gambler from the Bowerstone Market pub to Driftwood (3rd quest) to let the island "establish" into its final phase on its own - which is what unlocks the achievement. Much like when you rid Driftwood of Hobbes (1st quest), you have to allow time for the island to develop/establish into it's second phase (added bridges, shops, and lights) before the next quest appears.

EDIT (8/13/22): If it doesn't want to unlock, try sleeping in a bed until morning to help the island progress. DeadRose420 and RadiantCarcass mention specific beds such as a bed in a house you own and the royal bed working for them. Others commenting below have been sleeping until the next morning and that will sometimes force the island to progress/help the achievement pop if it is giving you trouble.

The random effect:
It is likely that the earlier you are in the storyline when you complete the 3rd quest, the longer it will take for the "island to establish." If that is true, then it would make sense that the later you are in the game's storyline, the sooner the island will establish after completing the 3rd quest; thus, making it seem "random." I believe this because of others' comments; however, this may not be the exact same for you.

My personal experience
I did not do the first quest until AFTER I became king. I finished the final escort quest at night and before morning came, the achievement popped when I was buying houses in the Millfields (maybe 15 min after finishing the 3rd quest). It will randomly pop after you finish the 3rd quest because you have to allow time for the island to establish into it's final phase.

How far along you are in the game may, or may not, have a part in how fast the island establishes after you complete the 3rd quest, but that is not confirmed - more my belief due to others comments and my personal experience. Hope that helps!

I did it all before I even went back to the resistance after the castle scene, so I'm nowhere near ruling yet. You just have to follow the sequence, zip around the kingdom a bit, and wait for things to happen, then revisit Driftwood each time. The achievement rather surprised me. I was running around Driftwood looking for the key (because then I could finally get to the flit switch after the gambler quest), and it just popped a while later.

I went to Driftwood as explained and completed the Hobbes quest. However, the quest guy is gone, the next quest does not appear in my sanctuary. Any ideas?

The guy who appears for the 2nd quest (taking the letter from driftwood to the carpenter in silverpines) will not "spawn" until driftwood has automatically developed into the next phase; it will take a few days in the game for it to happen. In your case, he won't appear until you see the bridges and lantern lights that show up in driftwood after you have rid it of hobbes. If the island hasn't developed, the quest won't show up in your sanctuary because it isn't an option yet. Once you see it in the sanctuary, you will know the guy is there. Hope that helps.

I agree with BattleSiege. This can be glitched and the solution is to sleep in a bed. (I also chose to sleep until morning). I had played for many hours after completing the quests, over a few gaming sessions. I also found that the progression in dankwater cavern didn't happen either. But, I slept, the achievement popped, and both locations had progressed.

Hmm. How early were you in the game Grav1ty? Were you King or were you closer to the beginning? Just curious because some seem to have this problem if they are earlier in the game rather than later such as King.

Having brought the gambler in I travelled normally to a bed in Millfields and slept until morning. I got the achievement despite being woken up by a character discovering my trespassing,

ive been sitting here for ages, trying to do this acheive, im queen, its my final counting down year... i paid for the bridge right at the start of the game, and yet. i have no quest for pest control, ive come back and forth for a long time! and the quest giver for the quest just isnt there....

any ideas? im so confused..

By Cordover on 16 Apr 2011 19:05
That's odd. When you say you've "come back and forth" do you mean you have actually been IN the driftwood area? If you haven't I would definately go inside and explore around some just to let the game know "you're there."

That may help if you haven't done that, but guessing that you have, I would go back inside driftwood and purchase anything you can purchase such as cart vendors and such. Dig around if you can, try to do something interactive inside Driftwood. Let us know what happens...

oh man...its been so long since I have played, but I would say do a few missions and go back. Maybe a day or two (in game). Again, I'm not completely sure if the speed of the achievement is related to where you are in the game's progression (i.e. are you King or not). Just do some missions and go back...it should be up by then.

i was having trouble finding the gambler quest. so after i did a few dlc achievements, i went to the marketplace to see if i could find him, and his ass still wasn't there. so i slept in the inn and when i woke he at my foot board like a staler watching me sleep. so if by chance anyone else is having the problem, maybe give that a try. hope it helps

thanks for the message. for me, and everyone I have talked to, the order of the quests above are correct. When you escort the guy from the pub to driftwood...he speaks of building up driftwood or "establishing the island." I dont know why you were allowed to escort the pub guy before taking the letter to silverpines, but thats not the normal sequence for the game's achievement. The other solution shows the same sequence as well...your game must have glitched somehow, but im glad you got the achievement.

Oh man, its been so long since I have played, I would need someone to tell me and I could then put them in the description. However I thought the 3 I had would work fine:

1. Rid Driftwood of Hobbes.
2. Take a letter to the carpenter in Silverpine (lots of balverines there).
3. Escort gambler from the upstairs of Bowerstone Market pub to Driftwood.

I still can't find the quest giver, he has just simply dissapeared from my game. I've tried doing other things within driftwood to let the game know I'm there. Tried sleeping until morning both in and out of the town. I've even done the demon door there hoping it would kick the game into producing the quest giver. I'm currently king and on the quest to fetch the priceless statue

First things first...do you see lantern lights hanging up on the front of the island and on the bridges? If you see them, that means the island HAS developed into it's second phase. Meaning, you did complete the first quest to rid Driftwood of the Hobbes.

If that's the case, look for the guy in the cave to make sure you got the letter. If he is not in the cave, make sure he isn't up front somewhere by the bridges...if you don't see him anywhere, go to Silverpine and look for the carpenter and give him the letter you likely have. After you enter Silverpine, he is on the left on the porch of his shack......i think. Don't hold me to that it's been nearly 3 years since I've played this.
________________________________________________________________________________________
If you don't see the lantern lights, first thing you should do is look for the quest guy. He is normally in front of the water (before the bridges) when you first enter Driftwood. If you don't see him when you walk in, go the the back right....I believe that is where the Hobbes or on the right-side of the island across the bridges. Check high and low because I think the back drops off to the water. Look all around the island for any loose Hobbes. If you see nothing, go check the Hobbe Cave to make sure none are there.

If you see no lantern lights, no hobbes, no quest guy...you likely need to wait for the island to develop into it's 2nd phase.

Let me know what you find.

Quest 1 - Pest Control (kill the hobbes)
Quest 2 - Gift Wood for Driftwood (get letter to carpenter in Silverpine)
Quest 3 - An Island Getaway (lead rusty by hand to Driftwood)

Quest 2 - 3 can appear in either order but this is the most common route.

I needed the mine to appear in drift wood, So I can retrieve book 29... came here and reread this guide once I noticed my drift cheese hadnt popped. slept in a bed and the achievement popped. its just timing and my worry was I had abandoned my gambler on a cliff somewhere... now I'm not sure that's possible. I had clearly escorted him as needed for quest to complete. I was starting to think "is this one glitched?". Thank you

During your playthrough of the game you will enter Millfields through Bowerstone, once entered you may have to wait some time to find the required individual however if you go to the area that slightly represents stone henge there will be a guy stood at the top next to a wrecked bridge.

Speak to him and give him 5000 gold for the repairs for the bridge and return here later.

*SPOILER*

Once the bridge is fixed you now have access to a small caravan fleet, there will be another man on the first island of Driftwood and he asks you to clear the islands of Hobbs, once complete you will have to return to him and finish this quest, a while later if you return to Driftwood you will see that things have greatly improved, locate the quest giver here and he will ask you to take a letter to a carpenter in Silverpine, take the letter to the carpenter and complete the quest.

There is a total of 3 quests to complete and the last quest can be found in Bowerstone a little while after completing the Carpenter quest, its best you just check your quest list and find it.
The quest requires you to escort a gambler to driftwood so he may start a new life, its a fairly simple quest and can be achieved with little to no effort with the occasional bandit fight here and there.

Also you may need to become ruler of albion before the third quest is available however the achievement will not be unlocked unless you progress this far.

The key to this achievement is giving driftwood the chance to progress, so time in key, once the gambler makes it to driftwood there will be a brief period of time which it will take for driftwood to advance to its last stage, resulting in your achievement.

Recommended that you visit Driftwood as it is a very interesting place to explore.

Im not sure if this mission made a difference for the achievement or not, but one where I escorted a guy (that wants to open a casino in driftwood) from Bowerstone Industrial (he was on the run for gambling problems). Once I arrived with him in Driftwood the achievement unlocked from me then.....

Schizoid i have no idea :/ i dont mean to sound like im coming across stupid but have you defiantly completed all three quests?! sorry to patronise :/ all i can think of is that maybe your game glitched out :/ id recommend just giving it some time and if you receive it and can figure out why it would be much appreciated if you let me know :) this way i can include it into the guide.

If you plan on making a second character then id recommend completing it again and seeing if you have any luck.

I was on the quest where you meet Page in Bowerstone after accumulating 100 seals. I went ahead and played through that quest, and once I was finished with it, "Gift Wood for Driftwood" became available. So maybe it is dependent on story progress to prompt the next quest in the chain.

By Ryuukishi634 on 04 Nov 2010 17:47
Yeah its quite plausible that Story Progression is the key to obtaining all 3 quests that was my theory however it may not be proven for a while and Xellis is may be possible that the earlier in the game you Contact the man on the bridge the cheaper it is however without investigation it cant be proven.

Having just received this achievement, I don't think it is glitched. It is simply about allowing time after you escort the man from the Bowerstone Market pub to Driftwood (3rd quest) to let the island "establish" into its final phase on its own - which is what unlocks the achievement.

Much like when you rid Driftwood of Hobbes (1st quest), you have to allow time for the island to develop/establish into its second phase (added bridges, shops, and lights) before the next quest appears.

It is likely that the earlier you are in the storyline when you try to get this achievement, the longer it will take for the "island to establish." If that is true, then it would make sense that the later you are in the game's storyline, the sooner the island will establish after completing the final quest; thus, making it seem "random."

I did not do the first quest until AFTER I became king. I finished the final escort quest at night and before morning came, the achievement popped when I was buying houses in the Millfields (maybe 15 min after finishing the quest as others stated). It will randomly pop after you finish the 3rd quest because you have to allow time for the island to establish into its final phase.

Hope that helps.

"An Island Paradise" is bugging for some people (including me). Sometimes, apparently, the guy walks so painfully slow when you hold his hand that it could potentially take like half an hour to get him to the island. I let go of his hand and zoned out, to come back later. The NPC had disappeared, and I'm stuck unable to get this achievement until the bug fix comes out.

*update* I found someone who was on that escort quest (I was there when he met the guy and accepted) and 15 minutes after walking him there, I was able to get the achievement playing as the sidekick. I was also able to score the gold key from his game. The rare book in the mine, however, we didn't share when he grabbed it. I'm going to see if I can get the book achievement tomorrow the same way we did the island one today; by being there while he collects the books. Will update.

Okay, so if this bugs and you can't get the book, you will NOT be able to complete the book achievement/ Might as well start a new game, or wait for the patch.

I wanted to chime in with my experience. I completed all of the Driftwood line quests a solid 2 hours before I ventured to Aurora. I finally unlocked the achievement shortly after forming an alliance with Kailan. I don't think the achievement will unlock until you have reached that final act of the game i.e. forming an alliance with Aurora.

Just wanted to post that people looking for this achievement should read it carefully. It has all the information, but I did not pay attention to the last bit with the quest from Bowerstone part. I assumed (wrongly) that the last quest would be in Driftwood. Good solution!

If you sleep after the third quest, you will get the achievement as soon as you wake up.

Just to be clear, you do NOT have to be Ruler of Albion to fire this achievement. I got it before I even left for Aurora. Just allow time after the 3rd quest and/or sleep and it should happen.

I can't believe it, I was doing a main mission and the first task is unlocked, this is amazing.. I've been doing high school and married but nothing, if someone discovered the island after giving the 750or luck, you must do a main mission and in it you will be warned to kill hobbes on the island!

I've been doing high school and amisgad but nothing, if someone discovered the island after giving the 750or luck, you must do a main mission and in it you will be warned to kill hobbes on the island!I can confirm that I didn't see mission 3, and it was a failure of mine. With so many active missions I don't notice the description, he goes out at Bowerstone market, in a tavern, slept until the next day and burst
