How to unlock the Into The Pitt achievement in Fallout 3 - Definitive Guide

Given the nature of the game, there may be other ways of completing this achievement. However, this should be the most straight forward method.

Once you finish downloading The Pitt and start up a saved gamed, shortly after you get in game you should receive a message about new radio stations. Open your pip boy and listen to Werhner's station. This should give you a quest to meet him in the far north-north-west section of the map, almost off of it. If you have this area explored, fast travel to the nearest location. If you don't, prepare for a very long hike.

When you arrive there and speak with him, he'll ask you for help to free his people but will first tell you that you need a slave outfit so you can hope to fit in. He will then send you to the tunnel which happens to have a slave camp in front of it.

When you arrive there, you'll find 3 slavers guarding 3 slaves. You'll need access to the slaves. There are 2 ways to go about this, pay for them with 600 caps or kill the slavers and get the key off of one of the bodies. Either way, when you open the cage, one of the slaves will talk to you. You'll need to ask him about one of the slave outfits. He'll tell you to grab the one of the dead body, if you do so, you get Good karma points (My guess is that if you demand his instead, you get Bad point, same if you kill him). Enter the tunnel then use the hand cart to travel to the Pitt.

When you arrive, there will be a fire fight. Afterward, travel forward until you run into a gate that is locked. Wait for Werhner to unlock it. While here, he will tell you they will take away all your items when you enter the Pitt but you can convince him to hid a knife (ouch) or pistol (can't even imagine the pain) on you.

After this point, travel forward until you reach the bridge. It is best to avoid the bombed out building on this side, there are only 3 enemies in it and nothing worth looting. Travel across the bride. Watch your feat while on it, there are several mines in the area. While traveling across, you may have to fight some stray dogs (unless you have the animal magnetism perk) and a sniper at the opposite end.

After making it across, you'll see some slaves running towards you who will inevitably run into the mines. Shortly after this, you'll run into the front gate of the Pitt. On the other side of it, you'll have a conversation with a guard who will proceed to take your items. Once this conversation is over, this achievement will unlock.

This game dynamically levels the enemies to the players level, just like Oblivion did... does it really matter?

Eventually, yes.

Though you probably better off leaving most items behind. Most rare items you'll find in The Pitt are arguably far better than the base game.

What's the need of a solution for such an easy achievement ? However it's great written so no thumbs down.

Do you have to give away your stuff? Or can you just go through and blow the place up

Even if you kill the slavers you will still lose your items for a while.

The achievement pops after the door that's after the gate. You'll enter the gate, loose your stuff, open a door, walk a bit and then the achievement unlocks.

I've downloaded the DLC twice but the radio station doesn't show up in my pip boy. Any one else have this problem?

I had the problem that I killed the slavers and took the slave outfit long before I started this quest which resulted in the dead slave not having a slave outfit on him. (I probably sold it, not sure). So I had to search the whole Wasteland for a slave outfit. I found one of the other slaves that ran away after I killed the slavers in front of Vault 101. When you talk to him he'll give his outfit to you.

I hope this helps!

To activate The Pitt DLC, just load up a previous save and wait about one minute or so.

Follow the marker on the map and you will meet up with Werhner and talk about traveling to The Pitt. Follow the map marker and get the slave outfit. After meeting back up with Werhner, follow the map marker to the tunnel entrance and active the hand cart to travel to The Pitt. Follow the path with Werhner. After he opens the gate, continue across the bridge. Follow the road after the bridge and to the right. The gate at the end of the road will be opened for you. After the conversation, enter the door on the left.

Story Related and Unmissable

Before starting this DLC, ensure all your equipment is fully repaired and that you have plenty of ammo and health items because there are some major battles coming up. After you arrive at the Radio Tower you have to fight off some Raiders who have come kill the guy who sent the signal that brought you here. After wiping out the Raiders, Wernher will introduce himself and (after a brief conversation) will tell you to get yourself a Slave Outfit so you will blend in when you get to The Pitt.

Getting the Slave Outfit is easy as the nearby Slaver Camp is only lightly defended. If your Speech Skills are high enough then you can bribe your way into the Slave enclosure by bribing the Guard with 600 caps, this is preferable because then you can save your ammo for later and keep your health up for a bit longer. If your bribery attempt fails, then kill all the Slavers you see and loot the Slave Pen Key from one of their bodies. Open the Slave Pen and grab the outfit off the corpse that's there then leave. After you get the outfit, Wernher will appear so talk to him and go into the Tunnel but make sure you tell your Companion(s) to wait as they are not allowed in The Pitt. Once you are ready, talk to Wernher and press on the nearby Handcart to go to The Pitt.

After arriving, Wernher will have an argument with some Slavers and kill them. Once the Slavers are dead follow Wernher to a gate to the Northeast of your position where he'll say he can’t go any further. On reaching the gate, Wernher will give you your orders to find a lady called Midea and he will also give you a weapon if you ask nicely. The bridge ahead is dangerous as there are loads of mines, traps, dogs and possibly also a sniper on one of the cable support pylons. If you have the Light Step perk then this section shouldn't be hard. After crossing the bridge you will come to the entrance to Downtown.

WARNING:

The area in-between the North end of the bridge and the entrance to "Downtown" is extremely glitchy with many graphical, textural and slowdown issues so save at least once before entering "Downtown" in case the game crashes.

There are 2 ways of getting past Mex:

1: Lie and say you're a failed escapee that wants back into The Pitt.
2: Say you're interested in joining the Slavers.

Option 1 will see everything you own confiscated there and then but option 2 will see you beaten up on entering "Downtown" then your gear will be confiscated. The advantage to option 2 is that you will get to keep your concealed weapon and be able to meet Midea that much sooner, therefore we recommend going down this route.

The trophy will pop once you've entered "Downtown", your hidden weapon has been auto-equipped and the local Radio Station has been detected.

A radio signal (Wernher's Distress Signal) will appear when you leave any city after 1-2 minutes. There you will meet a man named Werner, he will fight off the raiders, help him and talk to him. Then go to the Train Tunnel and talk to Ramsey, for a little money take the key from him and release the slaves. Meet Werner again, talk and go into the tunnel that leads to the city of The Pitt. After crossing the bridge, passing the checkpoint (here all your things will be taken from you, you can return them later) and entering the door you will find yourself in the city where the quest will end.
