How to unlock the JACKed Up! achievement in Gears 5 - Definitive Guide

TL;DR: You have to collect 273/289 components and get all ultimate upgrades. Chapter select on the same save slot should be working (confirmed in the comments. Thanks!)

The ultimate upgrade locations:

Act 2:
1: Flash Freeze (Flash) - Complete all 3 Hollow Storm Locations
2: Seeker (Shock Trap) - Complete all 3 Outsiders Locations (Loot the Safe in North Tower Sub Station)
3: Marked for Death (Pulse) - Complete Condor Crash Site (South - Loot the safe at the end)
4: Brawler (Stim) - Complete Condor Crash Site (North - Loot the safe at the end)

Act 3:
5: Detonator Implant (Hijack) - Complete all 3 Scavenger Locations
6: Slayer (Cloak) - Complete all 3 Waterworks Locations (after you complete your last location, pick up the upgrade from Paduk's Nomad Guy)

Act 4:
7: Deadly Overload (Barrier) - Pick up in chapter 4-1 in the Swarmak fight area

I will post here a full guide for all 90 collectibles, 289 components, 17 relic weapons, 7 Jack ultimate upgrades locations in one video. You need the components, relic weapons and Jack upgrades for another four achievements. (JACKed Up!, Jack of All Trades, Relic Hunter, Relics of the Past)

Timelines:
Act 1 - 42 Collectibles

Act 2 - 152 Collectibles

Act 3 - 187 Collectibles

Act 4 - 20 Collectibles

In this large! Spoiler are the single Act videos without relic weapons and all upgrades (but I visit all locations, just complete the location and loot the safes / items there)

How are people getting this through chapter select?
I didn't go for this on my first playthrough because the servers were messed up but i did pick up any i came across.
Second playthrough i followed this guide, got all ultimate upgrades and all components until act 3 when some components were missing, presumably because i picked them up on the first playthrough.

At act 4-2 i didn't have enough components to upgrade everything so tried chapter select. When i respec the points there is enough to unlock the upgrades but the achievement won't unlock because some of the ultimate upgrades have been re-locked by using chapter select.

Just small note.
If some people are following Lucio1544's start of chapter component amounts, they can be different, at least during Act III.
These are mine start of chapter components, after I got them all:

Act I - Chapter 1: No Menu
Act I - Chapter 2: 0 Components
Act I - Chapter 3: 2 Components
Act I - Chapter 4: 10 Components

Act II - Chapter 1: 16 Components
Act II - Chapter 2: 34 Components
Act II - Chapter 3: 38 Components
Act II - Chapter 4: 47 Components
Act II - Chapter 5: 101 Components + Flash, Shock, Pulse and Stim Ultimate Upgrades

Act III - Chapter 1: 122 Components
Act III - Chapter 2: 157 Components
Act III - Chapter 3: 188 Components
Act III - Chapter 4: 274 Components + Hijack and Cloack Ultimate Upgrades

Act IV - Chapter 1: 274 Components
Act IV - Chapter 2: 289 Components + Barrier Ultimate Upgrade

Anyways, good luck for those still going for this! \o

After 4 attempts I finally got this stupid achievement done. In hindsight it would be better to start a whole new game, but I was able to do it by chapter select. Acts 1 and 4 were fine, but to minimise the chances of it glitching in the open world segments:

- play on casual to minimise the chances of dying and reloading a checkpoint.

- don't use mutators. I'm not 100% sure it was the cause, but the first time I had them on and components wouldn't spawn.

- do Act 2 chapters 2&3 in one sitting. If you already have the upgrade, don't redo the Grindlift side quest, I encountered a bug where I couldn't exit the area after picking it up, so had to reload the previous checkpoint which reset the counter without respawning the components.

- for Act 3, do all the western open world and side mission components BEFORE going into the rocket plant. However, don't redo the dock drill side mission if you already have Flash Freeze, again I had a bug where it wouldn't let me pick it up and I couldn't leave because I hadn't collected it. Then do the same for everything east of the bridge before going to the train turntable.

- even then, it still randomly reset the counter to what I started with, but doing it in one go meant it still remembered what I'd picked up. So according to the counter I'm still missing about 60 in total, but I had more than that, which was enough to upgrade and I don't care now because it popped.

Joman70. You need to collect all components in 1 run. As you cannot do chapter select. They don’t carry over only collectibles do

Everything was fine until I got to act 3 ch. 3. The components I got on my first play through were already taken. I opened up a safe that was supposed to be 5 in and it was empty. Same with a few other locations. Any fixes? I don’t want to do it again I’m almost done. I heard you only need 273 so I might have enough

You mean the video descrption on YT? Is not possible because the charlimit there but there is a pinned comment with the timeline under the video. If you mean here on TA that is not working because if you click a timecode a new window to YT opens and the video starts there and honestly it is a lot of work because url=timecodeurl - Time - url close and that for all times.

Here an example - 01:50
The code is url=h***s://youtu.be/-6eSasvJ-9g?t=110] 01:50 /url and you have to convert the time in seconds. Sorry maybe for 20 collectibles but not for 401^^ this will takes days....

For those that had collectibles go missing due to server issues, the latest patch seems to have restored them. I had a lot go missing and when I tried to get them again, they would appear in the world but I couldn't pick them up again. My tracking has recovered and I just go the achievement.

I can also confirm what Lucio1544 says works!
I was 11 components short on my first playthrough. I chapter selected (on the same save file) ACT II where I only had 87/106 components found. I located 11 more than I had on my first playthrough so I was at 98/106. Exited to main menu and then chapter selected ACT IV and it increased my overall total. Although not by 11 (which is weird, but I still had the 15 to collect in Homefront and BOOM I had enough to fully upgrade Jack and got the cheevo!)

Thank you Y lI lD lD O. He helped me yesterday as well as a few of my friends.

I had the misfortune of the game just bugging out on me and 2 friends when we were doing the campaign on Insane in co-op during the Launch weekend and a few of the components and collectibles in Act 2 just bugged out on us preventing us from getting the achievement. We were stuck at 97% and then a week later, like a godsend, I came across the post above.

Many many thanks mate. Much appreciated.

I'd just finished Act II Chapter 5 and realised that I had missed 5 components (101/106). I know we don't need every single component to unlock this achievement, but I'm an obsessive completionist. Below is how I obtained the missing components.

Go to Chapter Select. You will be told it will overwrite your current save. Confirm by pressing A.
Select the chapter with missing components. This will create a new save and when I started it said I had 0/106. Panic not!
You can grab others if you want, but it will make no difference at all. Do what is needed to obtain the components you missed on your previous playthrough. In my case I finished the chapter, but it would be good for someone to confirm that you can just Exit to Lobby.
When I went to stats it still said 101/106. However, the next day I checked and it had changed to 106/106, so it appears that there is some delay in the total registering.

Note that the way this works may change with updates, but hopefully this will be useful for other players who encountered the same issue.

How can I tell what ultimate upgrade I missed or did not unlock

Cheers guy I followed your guide right up to 7mins left, tried to go to the artillery battery and the bridge is closed so I’ve wasted my time going through all these collectibles to now find I cannot proceed. Fuck this game. I’ve tried reloading on numerous occasions and changing characters etc even reloading a previous save and it’s still shut!
Thanks again 👌 would be nice to know that it was missable..

So do you really need to get all Ultimate collectibles in one continuous run? I missed the shocker one on my first play through and no matter what I do it relocks if I try to jump ahead. Really sucks if I have to replay everything *again* because of one damn upgrade...

I second @Snitty1, Chapter Select ONLY works if on your very first playthrough of the game you collect ALL Ultimate Upgrades.

On my first playthrough I did not. Now whenever I do Chapter Select, even through a new Save Slot, I retain only the upgrades I had on my initial playthrough. Does not matter that I have unlocked them since, and have them in my current checkpoint in Save Slot 1. The components persist through Chapter Select, however if you're missing an Ultimate Upgrade, they do NOT.

Short Version: Chapter Select ONLY works if on your first playthru you got all Ultimate Upgrades.
If not, you need to play through Act 2 through Act 4 AND pick up 273 components to buy the upgrades. The moment you chapter select, even on the same save slot, the Ultimate upgrades revert to your very first playthru.

This is in regards to the components for Act 3. Collect everything outside before heading into the satellite base. The components seem to despawn for some reason and the only way to get them is to restart the chapter and run though. Confirmed this with my Co-op partner.

Fl0ydPinkert0n‘s comment should be highlighted... He is correct, and has saved me pulling my hair out over the bugged components for a for 5th run.. Load in a empty slot, pick Act 4.. Chapter 2.. If you’ve collected all the components across multiple play thoughts it will remember all of them and give them to you in that final chapter.. Meaning you need only upgrade Jack to get the achievement..

Act 3 is completely broken and across the co-op run, my insane run and my casual run I collected all the components but not in one run.. (Due to component disappearing bug) hope this comment saves someone a lot of time and stress.

So if I do chapter select, all of the previously collected components will still be available? Does that mean I can go back to Act 1 with a beefed up Jack, or does it only log what you had acquired UP TO that level (and if so...let's say I missed 20 components in Act 2 my first time through....if I find them on my second time through will I always have them when I chapter select Act 3?)

This achievement is infuriating due to how buggy the campaign is. I tried to go back in New Game + to get the rest, in Act 2&3 they stopped being added to the total then just stopped appearing. There's also a major bug in Act 3 where if you do the main missions first, a lot of the components vanish.

Trying to recollect ultimate upgrades only makes it worse - I got as far as getting the freezing flash upgrade, but the prompt to exit the area won't appear and it's put me back to 6/106 collected.

So wait... If I play through the campaign and only get say... 150/289, does that mean I can go back and find the missing components through chapter select? Without my total being reset because of a "new campaign"? I've heard a lot about how "components don't carry over" and it's very disheartening so I'm not entirely sure if it's okay to miss them on my first playthrough.

@ATCS Not for this achievement. The 90 collectibles are for a different achievement.
@Delta748 Atm no idea because the servers from Coalition are really instable. My progress resets (story and collectibles) reset two times.

If you try this, please tell us it is working or not. Thanks

Thanks for doing this, and this was my fear. It makes sense that the upgrades can only be during 1 playthrough. That really sucks because that is almost 400 collectables.

I started the campaign and finished ACT 1. I think I missed a couple in ACT 1. I think I will wait a few weeks and try to get everything done in 1 playthrough (Insane, all campaign specific achievements, collectables, etc) when a complete walkthrough gets made.

Knowing the Coalition, they will probably make stupid achievements in the future (inconceivable, only use starting weapons, hardcore, play entire campaign as Jack, turn off your monitor and finish the campaign inconceivable solo hardcore with only melee etc)…...

I restarted from the chapter where I got Jack. I'm not messing around with this one.

I'm definitely not even going to try to finish this game, and I probably wouldn't even play it if it wasn't on Game Pass. The goal seems to be to make people play this as long as possible, not yo enjoy the game whatsoever. They just want to log as much time and as many players as possible, and I'm dumb enough to buy into it for however long I do.

Excellent guide. It looks like we'll maybe have most of the components by the end of act 3?

So I went back and selected each chapter one by one to see exactly how many components you start off with in each chapter.

Act1 Ch3 - 2 Components
Act1 Ch4 - 10 Components
Act2 Ch1 - 16 Components
Act2 Ch2 - 34 Components
Act2 Ch3 - 38 Components
Act2 Ch4 - 47 Components
Act2 Ch5 - 101 Components + Flash ,Pulse,Shock, and Stim Ultimate Upgrades
Act3 Ch1 - 122 Components
Act3 Ch2 - 212 Components + Cloak Ultimate Upgrade
Act3 Ch3 - 256 Components + Hijack Ultimate Upgrade
Act3 Ch4 - 274 Components
Act4 Ch2 - 289 Components + Barrier Ultimate Upgrade

So my original comment still stands; you don't need to do this in one run and chapter select can be used just not in the same way that it is used for collectibles.

Again, This only works with chapter select otherwise you'll only be able to use the components you've found in your current run.

Chapter select doesn’t work for the ultimate upgrades. It keeps your components but not the ultimate upgrades. I tried to chapter select Act 4 Chapter 1 after getting the ultimates in Act 3 Chapter 3. In Act 4 Chapter 1 I was missing cloak and hijack ultimates. You have to play all the way through from Act 2 Chapter 2 to Act 4 Chapter 1 while getting all ultimate upgrades for the achievement.

So in Act 3 ch. 3 you have a point where u shoot a bridge. All the guides say you can get the collectibles in ch. 3 and don’t mention it being missable after that point. So for me all the components and stuff beyond the bridge became unattainable because of the bridge being down so I can no longer get to that side of the map. I’m just not sure if this is normal and guides should mention getting everything before shooting the bridge or if my game is glitched because maybe the bridge is supposed to go back up after that mission and mines didn’t.

@iM3RKxYOUx There is no "missable" collectibles. The bridge bug is just another major glitch in the campaign which have to fix by TheCoalition.

Oh okay, thanks for the response, guess I will have to wait until they send out a patch before I can continue 🙄🙏
It might be worth recommending that people should get those first before they shoot the bridge to avoid the glitch 👍😁

I beat the campaign awhile ago, but recently decided to go back through for the collectibles and components.

Everything was going smooth until I hit Act 3. That's when I some of the components were missing. I decided to push forward because I understand you don't need every component to fully upgrade Jack. However, after getting the last one in Act 4, I still ended up 6 short.

I started a new save today. This time starting from Act 3. I got about 65 components in before some were missing again and quit to the main menu.

Then, I went into the Campaign, Load, picked a new save slot, and opened up the "select chapter." From there, I scrolled through each act and chapter, and noticed that I wasn't missing any components.

The next thing I did was load up Act 4 - Chapter 2. I skipped through the cutscene, and once I had controller of my character, I was finally able to apply all the upgrade and get this achievement.

You can do chapter select. I missed an ultimate went back to act 2 collected it and then I needed to use chapter select again to go to act 4. The missing ultimate was available but I needed to re-upgrade Jacks abilities. I selected act 4 - chapter 1 which means I also needed to collect the deadly overload ultimate again. Once I collected it the achievement unlocked.

(Only achievement is obtained the components are not saved)

So I've been helping people with this achievement as well, and I'm commenting here because I just tried helping another person and the upgrades don't seem to appear anymore when loading my game in multipayer. I'm thinking this was maybe patched in title update 4 a couple weeks back, can anyone else who's been doing this confirm that this doesn't work anymore or if it's just my save?

I am posting this because I found the video guides to be less than helpful.
Disclosure #1: 95% of this is based on the Gears of War Fandom Wiki, so due credit to that site. However, I did add or change a few item when I thought the description is unclear or lacking.
Disclosure #2: There is a missing location in ACT II not listing in this guide. However, as noted in other guides you do not need to find every location. My achievement popped halfway through Act IV and I ended with 10 plus extra.
