How to unlock the Seriously 2.0 achievement in Gears of War 2 - Definitive Guide

After completing the game plus horde and playing online I had around 3,000 kills. For much faster method to Seriously 2.0 you can rinse and repeat the method in Act 1, Chapter 4 (Tip of the Spear, The Big Push) or you can keep loading the chapter in the video below where you ride the Brumak Act 5, Chapter 5 (Aftermath, Closure) Just launch your missiles at the two squads approaching you then reload the checkpoint and repeat.

Each method is disputed as to which is actually quickest. My preference is the Act 5 chapter 5 but for variety I often mix it up.

New video, ignore the little ad at the start of it; it gives a good explanation on how to do it. Video credit: - austex360

Also please note that getting all the other achievements is advised before you attempt Party like its 1999 or Seriously 2.0 as you get kill on the way achieving all the others.

I prefer reloading Act 5 with the Brumak and missle the 2 groups. If it's done perfect, I can get 100 each respawn.

I can confirm the above comment by porschephiliac. I've done the Act 5, Chapter 5 method, and I average between 100-200 kills.

i did the very beginning of the level and killed the first two groups and that was less than 100 kills each time. It may seem boring but keep going, it feels great seeing it unlock.

If porschephiliac, Flesseck214, and tnargus happen to read my solution to this (though it's not really a solution), I've done the numbers based on Casual and it comes out to about 70 kills per run through on Act 5. Haven't done it on the higher difficulties, so maybe there is a difference. I did it by looking at my count in the war journal, then running through the section, then looking at my war journal after.

insane is the way to go on act v brumak attack--insane on GoW2 is way easier than GoW1, AND you're playing at a higher level of skill, which comes in handy for online skill development--you're gonna be playing this game online for quite a while with the new level 50/100 and other cheeves.

This is the same way I did it....I ran into a little problem however. When I started this quest, I was around 40,000 kills and made it up to about 75,000 when I was disconnected from XBOX Live. I didn't think much of it, and kept playing and got up to around 80,000. I reconnected to XBOX Live to join a party with a buddy, and my kill count was reset to what it was before I was D/Ced. This happened one more time towards the end where it reset my kill count by a couple of thousand. ADVICE: If you get D/Ced, just reconnect right away to avoid losing thousands of kills.

i found the quickest way to do it was go on casual & go through the whole level. pain in the but to keep selecting the start of the chapter, but you get more fun out of it rather than a measly few 80 odd kills from doing the same bit over & over. aim for the nemacysts in the sky. don't kill the seeders untill you get bored towards the end.

Just got it yesterday. I had about 30K kills from campaign and Horde, and the rest from the "Brumak Method" above. Tedious, but I found the best way to do it was to do a little each day (2-3,000 kills) and you'll have it before you know it. I alleviated the boredom by turning on the TV across the room and having a movie playing, or putting on my MP3 player.

Good luck!

Another bit to add: Each time you reload the level you can skip the the cutscene as soon as it says "Aftermath - Closure", by pressing 'back' on the controller. Over the long haul, this saves a bit of time. Also, some times it will load no enemies at all when you reload this section over and over again which can be annoying as well... I recommend just reloading since going through and killing a handful of enemies is just a waste of time.

I'd like to point out that this guide COULD be improved. The method shown in the video is _NOT_ how you can get 1000 kills in 5 minutes. The guy got less than 200 kills in 2 minutes. -> <1000 kills in 10 minutes

I averaged about 60 kills per "wave" (kill 60 + reload), and each wave took me under 20 seconds. This totaled 1000 kills in roughly 5min30sec. Compared to some solutions I see, this is record pace!

The video

If done correctly you can get 2000 kills per 15 minutes. I started @ 16840 @ 1:00 am and @ 1:15 was at 18850. Save game to HDD and skipping cut scene. My trick is to fire rockets from 1st group upwards to the back group right after the explosion reload and repeat. Going after the extra guys in the video wastes time.

Do not boot up and expect to get this in one sitting. I beat everything in the game, multiple times (story, horde, lots of multi) and hit 50,000 before attempting this. I used the method above and set a side an hour each night, getting a few thousand each round. Took me a little over a month to land this, and to be honest, it wasn't all that satisfying (unlike "veteran gear"). I felt like I wasted a lot of time on this since it was literally 0 fun.

I simply assume that everyone that has this achievement was forced to grind it. I fact, sometimes when I hear the word seriously, I think of this achievement. Because It was, "seriously" lame.

don't want to post another solution but, just move to right press X to shoot rockets at the first locust group, then move up and shoot the second groupe ASAP, you should be able to do this before the corpser show up is ugly face! then reload checkpoint, ive made 5000 kills in 20 minutes

If you want to avoid your kills being reset when being disconnected, walk the Brumak to the next checkpoint in the level. It saves the kill count rather then erase your current progress.
Seriously 2.0 takes around 11+ hours to grind which is nothing compared to Seriously 3.0, which takes 1500+ hours. Its fucking insane!

This solution certainly helped me shave off a lot of time to finish this achievement. Specifically the tip to aim for the far group and then pull down immediately so some missiles hit the group directly in front of you.

Though, I have to say I never was able to clock it as fast as you claim in the video. 1,000 kills in 5 1/2 minutes is quite a pace.

Thumbs up from me for this solution, much appreciated!

I remember playing this so many years ago as a kid with my friend, this was the last achievement I needed, I had gotten up to 75k kills and boosted about 20kish as I remember and the game disconnected, thus losing that progress and I gave up on it out of frustration.

Came back to it on my series X making it much faster and finished it up today.

Maybe he just got tired over time. I've just had a reality check yesterday playing this game. Decided to check which achievements I am still missing, fired up the game and for some reason all of my achievements have reset in-game. I still have saved game progress from the last time I've played it, and even a finished campaign on Hardcore, but it still gave me a Seriously counter after I killed 10 enemies, and I have no idea what's going on. Back to the start, I guess.

So, I remember this game had a huge glitch and my progress reset about 3 or 4 times. It's when you play offline. I'd often bring my 360 to my friend's place and play without the internet. And every time I re connected, it reset all achievement progress. I've no idea if they ever patched it. But I got Party Like it's 1999 like 5 times

Just in case anyone doesn't know (I wish I knew 10000 kills back), you can skip the cutscene by pressing the back button (or two squares on an Xbox One controller) which will load you up on the Brumak almost instantly instead of you having to listen to the same 12 seconds of cutscene dialogue over and over and over again.

If you're going for all the Gears 2 acheivements, I suggest you make this your LAST acheivement. All of the other acheievements will gradually add on your kills. When this achievement is all that is remaining, you can go do the Brumak method.

^^ 100-200 kills you reckon? Well that's amazing seeing as there is less than 100 enemies in the 1st section (before the 3 reavers and the Boomers at the bottom of the hill). If all enemies are killed before the gates it's approximately 80-90 kills.

At around 15000 now, still a long way to go for me.

OK...here's my attempt to answer which section of the campaign helps you get to Seriously 2.0 faster (since EliteHero happened to mention the dispute). I just did a numbers study.

On the Aftermath-Closure chapter, I played just the first part as described in the video above and stopped before you have to break through the first door. I played through 3 times to get an average. For the Tip of the Spear-The Big Push section, I played through 5 times just because there is a few different ways you can do things. By constantly looking straight ahead and all around, you'll see that you can catch Locust on the ground in groups at various times. So I tried a few different variations of the playthrough, again just for the average.

Here are the results based on Casual difficulty setting. It might be different on the higher difficulty but I have to check.

AFTERMATH - CLOSURE
1. 70
2. 69
3. 71
AVERAGE: 70 kills/section
STANDARD DEVIATION: 1
[UPDATE] Time to complete one "round" - 1 min, 13 sec.

TIP OF THE SPEAR - THE BIG PUSH
1. 74
2. 66
3. 63
4. 78
5. 70
AVERAGE: 70.2 kills/section
STANDARD DEVIATION: 6.02
[UPDATE] Time to complete one "round" - 2 min, 47 sec.

So, this should somewhat end the dispute on which way is faster. Granted this may not be enough data, but it appears that over time, both sections would average out to the same number of kills unless you could play the Tip of the Spear section and get the 78 every time. The Aftermath section definitely looks more consistent so you are almost guaranteed 70 kills every time. But with Tip of the Spear you could get a lot of variation.

[UPDATE] Obviously, from a time basis it's better to ride the Brumak!!

So...there's the data, but it's still your choice/preference which you like better I guess.

[UPDATE: 4 Oct 2011] Courtesy of x Daniel Nash 7, don't forget to go to the main menu every once in a while to make sure that the kills save and register with your profile, and thus reduce the risk of kill count resets.
Now, on toward actually getting the achievement!!

(I appreciate the work, honestly.) Question: given the scenarios seem roughly equivalent for numbers of kills, how LONG did each scenario take? Was one vastly quicker? I seem to recall tip of the spear was longer time-wise than the aftermath closure scenario, but it's been awhile since I've done single player, so I could be wrong.

By PilotDude on 08 Apr 2009 16:47
You're right. I found the Aftermath scenario to take much less time. I didn't time it officially, but if you wait to the bitter end on Tip of the Spear to get that one last kill (Locust driver of the hijacked rig) before the bridge, then it certainly feels longer time-wise. Doing it on Aftermath is a matter of 2 minutes I believe

By doodle777 on 12 Apr 2009 17:52
I would agree with Doodle. I would like to see the time, since without them this really is useless. If one method takes 3 times longer and yields almost the same amount of kills it would make this useful.

Also on AFTERMATH - CLOSURE you DON'T get to the point where you break down the doors, so reload near the start of the level after you kill the first two groups (you can shoot both of them from the starting point).

I did not vote neg or pos.

By Fafhrdd on 17 Aug 2009 15:39
Thanks for the input...I will go back and add real clock times to these based on doodle's and Fafhrdd's suggestions. Also, I saw another solution about doing this on Insane, but I haven't tested yet if you get more kills on Insane or not.

@Fafhrdd: I would agree that IF you stop before you break down the FIRST set of doors...then you get the Locust on the ground right at the start, throw in the 2 reavers coming at you for good measure, blow up the Imulsion tanks on the left after the Corpser disappears to clear those enemies, then blow up the second grouping of Locust on the ground before turning the corner with the Boomers...if you stop here and reload checkpoint, it's relatively quick time-wise. But my count of 70 though includes turning the corner, taking out the Boomers, the first set of 3(?) Reavers which come after you (2 on ground, 1 on left ledge), and then the next 2 Reavers which come over the first set of big doors as you walk toward them. If you skip turning the corner, you are missing out on roughly 7 kills, so you are right...it's probably not worth the time to turn the corner.

By the way, does anyone know if a Reaver kill nets 2 kills toward the achievement (one for Reaver, one for rider)??

Added measured clock times to the solution! :)

If you took into equation the fact that on the brumak level if you launch two missiles at the front squad then the back squad without moving, this obviously makes it the best way to boost this achievement. I think so anyway as I have tried it out. haven't done any clock times

@Pyr0lyZer perhaps you should try this method I suggested and see what the clock times are =)
Personally I think it's easier this way

Positive vote for the maths!

I'm surprised that a gamer actually knows how to use statistics here. That's what I like to see.

I'm able to get approximately 50 kills every 40-43 seconds using the Tip of the Spear method. I reload after Dom says " look out, it's a hijacked rig!"

It can take me less than 20 seconds to get 50-70 kills on the brumak.
I'm averaging about 150 kills per minute if I do things juuuust right.

And for simplicity, the Brumak seems the choice. Just a few taps of the x button.

I posted this on X360A a while ago, so I'll copy it to here ...

If you have an autofire-capable controller (like the blue or red Hori pad), then you can get Seriously 2.0 while you sleep.

Load up the Brumak level on Casual difficulty.
Stick the A and X buttons on autofire.
Rubberband the right stick so your Brumak is facing the ground.
Use string or tape to hold the left stick slightly up, just enough to make the Brumak walk forward at a decent pace (see later for why this is important).

Mr Brumak will walk forward, firing rockets (thanks to autofire X) at his own feet and taking slight damage for doing so. In a few seconds you'll reach the first group of Locust, and the rockets will kill some of them. Then you'll walk into a wall and eventually kill yourself.

You'll go to the menu, and automatically select "Load Checkpoint" (thanks to autofire A), and it'll all happen again. It's very important that the left stick isn't pushed too far forward, or it will move the menu selection away from "Load Checkpoint" and then you're stuck.

If you experiment with the position of the left stick, you can even improve the kills-per-minute. I find that angling it ever-so-slightly to the left helps. And of course, switch off rumble, otherwise things might get knocked out of whack.

Using this technique, I managed just over 30 kills per minute. Sure, it took many hours to get, but it beat doing it manually.

About 30 quid (UK here). I had to import one from Hong Kong. I used Play-Asia a while ago, but they seem to be out of stock at the moment.
I hear Renchi are quite good:
http://www.renchi.com/renchi/Xbox_360_Accessories_Hori_....htm
There might be cheaper options ... have a shop around.

Turbo controllers are generally quite handy for boosting tiresome achievements, so long as they just involve pressing a button. I got the "Veteran" achievements in Rockstar Table Tennis, for instance (10 hours of play, online and offline), as well as Zombie Genocide in Left4Dead, and a friend of mine got KingPin in Saints Row using a turbo controller.

Nice. Thanks for the info. Yeah I think it'll definitely come in handy. I'll probably use it for the "Bling Bling" achievement on GH World Tour as well... just as long as I can find a contoller. I'm also assuming I'll need a play and charge kit as well.

All the turbo controllers I've seen have been wired.
And it won't work for Bling Bling, as you have to press Start to start the song, and I've yet to find a turbo controller that allows turbo on the Start or Back buttons.

You should add to the guide to turn rumble off for the controller in the settings (options-controller settings in the Gears menu). Doing this, I went from 6000 kills overnight with rumble on, to 15000 kills with it off. I think the rumbling over time got my brumak off track... Worked like a charm, only 48k to go.

This method is absolutely perfect. Sure it takes a bit longer, but you aren't doing anything. I knocked this out over the weekend and I wasn't even home. A buddy of mine has gone out and bought one of these controllers as well. There are three settings on the Hori controller for autofire. I would use the medium setting, not the fastest. Thanks again, great method!

A Much better controller would be the Viking from Viking360.com You can make anything you want.

I have my Brumak just kill the first group. The controller is set to press select to skip scene, walk forward, press a to skil message, the shoot rockets, kill, press start, load chapter and it repeats the process as long as you have the tac switch held down(rubberband).

In fact you can boost any game AFK.

You have no idea how much food for starving kids $170 could buy (clich example, but you get what I mean).

I bought a crappy pad for £15.00 and after a few attempts on my slim box it kept crashing n i would lose the kills so i loaded my profile on my old box and i have to say it worked a treat! I was on 55,000 kills before i went to bed i left my box running for 24hrs and when i came home the next day after work i was on 99,600!!! So thats 44,600 in 24hrs not bad ;) i finished the remaining kills in 15mins bar 26 and played wingman to get just that little bit of satisfaction back from grinding the first 55,000.

@ Haseo ATC - Think your on the wrong site the "Starving Children Site" is ........well........i dont care. This solution is the best method by far if you dont want to spend hours doing the same thing over and over, which is obviously what your doing, u dohnut! Do you even no the meaning of karma? :)

Frist of all I want to thank peeveen for this solution! It was quite difficult for me to get a Hori Pad but I could buy one at amazon.com. I startet about 16.800 kills and tried out what Peeveen found out. I got around 2.150 kill in an hour. At the moment it should be about 87.000 kills. I like this solution because I wouldnt get these kills on my own because this is so boring. Great & thanks for this solution again!

You, sir, are a genius! Using this method, I'm getting about 1,000 kills every 35 minutes. At this rate, I'll be done in about 21 hours.

Best tip I can reiterate is to move the left stick very slightly to the left so that you kill most of the locusts in the first group. If you just go forward, you will miss about half the group, making this a lot longer and drawn out than it has to be. If you maneuver a bit to the left, you'll hit all but a few locusts. You'll know when you are doing it right when you only see three or four locusts running away after the brumak death scene. If you see more than six or seven, then you need to adjust your trajectory.

Thanks to Wakeupthezombie for suggesting the medium speed setting. Mine kept getting stuck on the Brumak tip after the cutscene and let the locust run away. With the medium setting it's working great!

Great guide there, and fuck all the losers who bitch about the price of a controller and starving children.

If you had a conscience, you woulden't buy an xbox or even game, you would be a missionary in Africa! But here you are, gaming as the rest of us, supporting the capitalist world, and not giving a damn about the starving children. So don't come here and think you are any better than the rest of us.

This site is for gamers, especially boosters and cheaters, and we do not lie about it like you. Oh we know what we are, and we are very comfortable with that :)

If you only push the stick SLIGHTLY forward (not the full way) then it's not enough to move the menu selection, but still enough to make the Brumak move.

A far quicker method to farm kills on the Brumak chapter is to fire rockets at the second group, then after firing rockets at the first group, right after they hit their targets, immediately reload the chapter (at 0:35 in the video above). It is more effective to shoot the second group first as they move away after a short while.

It is faster to achieve Seriously 2.0 this way because everything after those first two shots adds few kills per second. Even while doing it this way, though, it will still take quite a while to get the achievement. Good luck doing so!

*VIDEO BELOW SHOWING THIS METHOD*

100,000 enemies, any mode.
This achievement is almost unthinkable without boosting or farming kills, so lets just get right into how its done.
(*note, read important tips near the bottom.. they're important)

1) Load up Act 5, Chapter 5 (Aftermath - Closure).

2) When the cutscene begins, mash the BACK button. When Marcus is saying "Brumak", the cutscene should be able to be skipped.

3) Move your Brumak to the right slightly, and be mashing "A". This will get rid of the little tooltip that pops up.

4) After the tool tip is gone and you're slightly to the right, stop and line up a perfect shot for the group of locusts that are further back.
- This may take some getting used to, but there's a "spot" that you'll have to aim for to get your missiles going in the right place, but if you're planning on reloading this 2,000 times you might get the hang of it.

5) Once your shot is lined up and ready to fire, shoot your missiles and PAN DOWN (**IMPORTANT**).
- Your missiles can all shoot at different angles, so because there are 5 missiles, you actually have enough time to fire one or two at the back group of locust, and fire your last missiles at the closer group of locusts.

6) After all your missiles are blown up, (some are slower than others) reload your LAST CHECKPOINT.

7) Repeat steps 2-7.

IMPORANT: NONE OF YOUR KILLS WILL COUNT UNLESS YOU GO BACK TO THE MAIN MENU AFTER YOU ARE FINISHED.

- 5 minute 33 seconds = 1000 kills

IMPORTANT TIPS
- Install Gears 2 onto your harddrive
- It's usually quicker to restart a checkpoint than to clean up any leftover locusts.

For all of you hardcore gamers who really want to get this achievement and get it out of the way, look no further. Listed below is by far the best way to get this achievement!

I have owned and been playing Gears 2 since it first came out years ago. In this time, I had accumulated approximately 27,000 kills which is a lot for me considering I have a life, college, since finished and have a full time job as a computer programmer, girlfriend, family, etc... What I'm saying is... I don't have time to waste on achievements like this one. As fate would have it, I was in the market for a new Xbox 360 controller whenever I ran into the following video. All credit goes to the guy in the video who came up with the method. I am simply sharing it to others who like I use to be, desperately wanted to get this achievement and finally add Gears of War 2 to the complete list.

Like the guy says in the video, I literately got this achievement while sleeping, while I was at work, out to the movies or hanging out with friends and family. It was the perfect solution for someone like me and I hope someone else can find it as helpful as I did.

Here is the link for the controller for all who are interested.

Alright well I am writing this because of a little hiccup in my plan to get seriously 2.0. I was getting kills very quickly, I was averaging 8000 kills and hour. but I made it to 91000 and got disconnected from Xbox Live. Well I got up to 96550 and reconnected to Xbox Live. It then knocked me back down to the 91000 kills so be warned if you get knocked offline stay offline. As for the achievement It's a pain in the butt. Takes lots of time grinding. Got my last 50000 in one day just cause I was tired of going for the achievement so good luck everyone. I found the Brumak technique the best.

Something no one else mentioned that is super important and a warning: DO NOT SHUT OFF YOUR XBOX OR INTERNET BEFORE GOING BACK TO THE MAIN SCREEN. If your xbox loses power or internet connectivity, you will lose ALL kills that you have obtained since the last time you were at the main menu, so when your'e done for the night and tired don't just switch off your box. I found this out the hard way twice from dogs and when it was 4am...

So I know that I don't have the achievement as I am posting this. But I wanted to share how I went about getting this achievement.

So I started yesterday doing this for real.

I did Act 5 Chapter 5. I have a turbo controller. I set cn_A and cn_X to rapid fire. Not a fast pace but fast enough that it can shoot out a decent amount of rockets. I placed the cn_RS down and then cn_LS to the left and up. This made sure I walked somewhat straight and that I fired rockets at my feet when I walked into the wall that was ahead of me when you meet the first group of grubs.

I then started from my measly 550 kills.

*Note all of these times are in EST and are my results, meaning that not everyone is going to have the same amount of kills*

I loaded up this chapter and put it on Insane. And difficulty I am sure is fine and I don't know if there is a difference in.

Time Kills:

0850 16901

0953 18650

1142 21550

1638 28450

1831 32750

This is just under 24 hours of using my turbo controller.

I started right around 1900 yesterday. As you can see I got about 30000 kills in about 24 hours.

My turbo controller died at some point in the middle of the night. So I am sure it could have been more.

I hope this helps someone.

if like me you are tired or had no time to devote to successes like this if you can get it while you sleep the problem these you will need a red or blue turbo controller ori brand or a cronus max I buy a cronux max here is a script that I have programmed for Act 5 Chapter 5 this one and only for cronus max

This is more so a little tip for the Brumak method: if you’re as inconsistent as me with hitting both groups of enemies with the rockets then you can use this tip that will take the same amount of time and sometimes even quicker than the method that most people show. Once you skip the cutscene, quickly aim just to the right of the first group (so you don’t hit the wall) and fire your rockets before the ‘Brumak’ tip menu pops up and by the time you get to the corner where everyone stands your rockets will already be cooled down and ready to fire again into the second group.

The reason I said it can be sometimes quicker because sometimes a rogue rocket fired at the second group will fly at the second group and kill all of them.

Hope this helps anyone who is ad inconsistent as me!
