How to unlock the Oh What a Day! What a Lovely Day! achievement in Gears of War 4 - Definitive Guide

Shredding through HORDE on INSANE (Special thanks to S 0 U L S I C K and AZ JUMPMAN 23)

This method actually works:

But I do not take any credit for it. I do not know who did it, but I saw another guy post it on another solution, but he had not the achievement, so I guess it's not his video.

However, I will try to explain how we did it. I also post a video I recorded by myself and some screenshots below. They speak for themselves. [UPDATE: New videos for sniper and scout added further down]

Map: Fallout
Base location: Right where you spawn
Time: 2-3 hours
Boss: Kestrel (Helicopter Boss). If you get the wrong boss, fail with purpose and hope for a new one

UPDATE: Snatcher/Carrier seems to work very well, as long as he gets stuck/glitched (?) in the far end of the map. He must spawn in the "middle" in the far end of the map, not to the left, or he won't get stuck. Simply kill all small enemies first, then move outside with some turrets.

Engineer and scout is essential and mandatory. We used the following classes and skills:

Soldier - level 7 (I was not very useful, lol)
Assault Rifle Damage +50 damage (lvl 5 card)
Cover boost +55% damage reduction (lvl 5 card)
Active Reload Boost +100% reload bonuses (lvl 5 card)
Assault Rifle Magazine +85% magazine size (lvl 4 card)

Engineer - level 5
Barrier cost 40% discount (lvl 5 card)
Turret cost 32% discount (lvl 4 card)
Repair boost +80% efficiency (lvl 3 card)

Heavy - level 3
10% damage turrets (lvl 1 card)
20% spotted damage (lvl 2 card)

Sniper - level 1
Headshot damage

Scout - level 3
50% deposit (lvl 5 card)
X-ray vision

Obviously, engineer will build/repair and scout will deposit energy. When possible, let the last enemy live so the scout can pick up all energy before the next wave.

If you getting the wrong boss (example: Swarmak), rush to the middle of the map and die asap (fun moment :D), or the Swarmak may come too close to your base and destroy it.

Camping in your base with some turrets will make this task pretty easy after all but intense. We was down by boomers and dropshots (as you can see in my video) a few times. Barriers, decoys and turrets is absolutely necessary. Don't bother with sentries. [UPDATE: Sentries CAN be very very useful and OP at level 3/4, watch new videos below]

----
Tips from S 0 U L S I C K
-Sniper might/will be useful in the first rounds as enemies still die with one headshot (or two at most), since there's no turrets at the beginning there's a sniper.
-Scout can very well be a level 1, as long as he has the deposit bonus it's fine.
-Decoys might seem useless but they actually attract a LOT of enemies, specially groups of decoys, this will divert mainly Trackers, Juvies and many others who otherwise would be a pain in the ***.
-Don't repair decoys. Let them get destroyed so that the scout can get some of the money back. This helps to get the Fabricator at level 4.
-Don't use laser barriers near your turrets. They might get deactivated by accident and the horde will simply walk through.
-Second image: Hoffman could be a soldier in the beginning of waves, using his active reload boost. Old Man Marcus could also be a soldier mid-waves taking advantage of that same bonus. Cover on the right wall tho, instead of where he is.
-Always spot as many enemies as possible (Heavy may have a damage boost for it).
-Every time you see that the Fabricator is going to level up buy a turret. It will automatically be a the new level of the Fabricator (and you save some power). We kept a sixth turret in the back in case one got destroyed - and it did - we could replace it asap
-Don't panic nor frustrate yourself, it' easier than what it looks. You can/should pause the game (we did it prior to wave 31, but it's not mandatory to be exactly in that one).

Priority targets:
-Guardians/Sentinels should be taken out ASAP.
-Scions ASAP - they are deadly accurate with dropshot/boomshot.
-Trackers should be taken out quick too as they use their rotation attack to destroy barriers/decoys + shocks can down the COG.
-If the Kestrel is on the left watch out for rockets. If on the front, move away from the red lasers - he will shot you soon.

Guess that's pretty much it :D
Oh be careful not to kill yourself with the boomshot *cries in a corner*

PS/EDIT: imo, the hardest thing will be waves 1 through 7/9 (whenever you build those turrets/barriers) and getting the correct boss. When that's done, it's pretty easy.

----

UPDATE: I also did this achievement as a lvl 1 sniper with lvl 4 card +80% headshot damage. Don't think I will post a separate solution for it. Like the soldier class, this is also a pretty "useless" one, in my opinion. I stayed in the back most of the time, getting some kills, reviving teammates. Played with some other guys this time and we tried a new strategy, with a different "barrier pattern", sentries and barely no decoys. Intense. Here is a video, it might be useful for some of you.

UPDATE: Tonight I did it with a lvl 1 scout with lvl 5 card +50% deposit bonus. Very simple. Our base was OP. :D

Here is some screenshots giving you a hint on what to build and when. (from my first insane run as a soldier)

@CTM AudiRS6 That sounds pretty strange. Sure you pick up as much as possible before the last enemy is dead? Can be difficult some times though.
What do you mean with "pull all of our stuff back inside" btw?
I believe this is doable with the fabricator level 2 only, even if I never tried it myself. Some people seems too eager to upgrade it to level 3 (you will eventually get there anyway) and later 4. Of course, level 3 is highly recommended, and 4 is only a bonus. I BELIEVE.
I can't see how you end up with no credits if you "only" buy 4-5 turrets, barriers and some decoys. And depending on engineers repair boost, it's better to let the enemies destroy barriers/decoys rather than repair.
Regarding ammo. Conserve as much as possible. Let just two people do most of the turret-killing on easier waves. Yeah, I know, everybody wants kills but this is only about surviving horde on insane. :D
This achievement seems more difficult than it actually is. First time I did it I was a bit nervous, lol, now it's only boring and it seems like I can do it blindfolded. ;P
Of course, skilled teammates and communication is essential.
You should join a boosting session here on TA. :) I have done several and it has always been smooth (thanks to solid gamers!). More or less.
Good luck!

They are going to Nerf the shit out of horde.... Did insane with lvl 1's. I think these solutions just helped speed up the process.

Is it confirmed that they will nerf it? I'm not sure about it.

Awesome guide. Appreciate all the work.

If you had someone with the Hammer strike and mortar strike skill cards, levelled up as well would be very easy.

Snatcher isn't the only one you can get stuck, you can get the Carrier and Swarmak stuck as well. Carrier just watch out for the things he shoots up in the air, very easy to shoot down. Swarmak will still try to gun you down so not that great. Basically if you know how to trigger the boss stuck bug you can kill every boss easily except for the Swarmak. Heck, Snatcher and Carrier are probably easier than the Kestrel so no more wasting twenty minutes trying to get the right boss!

Never managed to get Carrier stuck but the Snatcher every single time when he spawned at the far side of the room (as opposed to the middlish area).

Heres a random tip, not really any better than the current strategy but it makes things a little more fun for scout players. If you give your scout the melee damage buff, the 150% melee kill bonus, the 50% deposit bonus, and then let them run around melee killing everything you can get a level 3 fabricator by around wave 8. For some reason melee damage doesn't get affected by difficulty changes so everything dies in one melee except for scions, they take 3. It's not really a "safe" strategy as even with double health running around on insane isn't easy, but even if the scout dies as long as he gets a few melee kills before going down they've already made more credits than if they would have simply waited until the end of the wave. Strategy is really only viable waves 1-15, and then all the deebee waves afterward though, double health swarm will take two hits and they just shotgun you in the face before you can hit them a second time. Again, not a great strategy but definitely a fun one.

Sounds fun. I would like to try that. So tired of staying in the back with my damn soldier. :P The road to lvl 10 seems to take forever.

Turrets are the answer to Insane Horde. Just did Forge last night. I would suggest being at least level 5 in whatever class you pick. I had the Hammer for wave 50, once Frabricator was at level 4 the Engineer just kept fixing everything, and we had around 90k for hammers on wave 50.

If you play horde on inconceivable these achievements won't pop up (soldier, scout, engineer, heavy and sniper). It has to be done on insane, no less no more.

Our group spent over 4 hours last night, got to wave 46, then had the game kick everyone for being idle.

Also, I'm not sure how you are able to keep your credits up. I ran scout with 40% bonus and was the only one picking up the credits. Our engineer had 32% cost reduction on turrets. Even with this, any time we got to a x6 wave (16, 26, 36) we had to pull all of our stuff back inside and kill everything but one guy, wipe and boost credits this way. Added like 2 hours to the run and still ran out by the mid 40s. No credits were spent on revives, it was just burning through ammo for the turrets and repairing them/barriers.

You need to go through horde mode, as the “soldier” class, from waves 1 to 50 on insane difficulty.
It’s impossible to do it alone, so you need to look for a team, at least if there are 4 of you. If you can’t find your team, don’t try from random either, it’s better, people just leave after several waves.
But it's easy to find a team in the new XBox service.
In the left panel of the team - find a team - select Gears Of war 4, and you will see applications from people who are ready to play horde right now, look for where people put the tags horde, insane and the like. They will easily take you on to the team, unless of course they are specifically looking for a scout or engineer. (True, the majority will be English-speaking groups, but at the right time of day, you can find comrades for the horde) The main thing is not to be stupid or interfere with them, but simply shoot enemies from the turrets
