How to unlock the What a journey it was... achievement in Hi-Fi RUSH - Definitive Guide

Majority of the wall of fame is unlocked through normal playthroughs of the game. For collectables I’d recommend following their respective guides.

There is however 3 sections on the wall that require a combination of time and skill to complete. These are the 60 Track S ranks, from easy all the way to rhythm master, completing Rhythm Tower twice including S rank and no purchases. And finally Personal Management (no hits for bosses)

60 Track S Ranks

The 60 S rank mission requires a no death playthrough of a level with majority of chorus’s to be rank S overall.

For S rank runs I’d recommend the following chip set;

  • Level 3 Rhythm metre rush (higher metre gain, better score)
  • Level 2 Combo holder (more beats before a combo expires)
For powerups I’d recommend the following;

  • Pick me up (Provides a safety net from dying)
  • Pick slide (Destroys barriers and Z shields)
Typically upon entering a chorus you want to focus on achieving either a SSS or SSA to get an overall S rank for the chorus.

The easiest S rank criteria is clear time. You want to always aim for this in any chorus you do.

Next difficulty wise is Score. For score you want to be aiming for high combo, mixing attacks up and performing companion combos to get overkill bonuses. I personally found the double team jam combo link (found in the wall of fame) with Peppermint or Macaron to be extremely effective at pulling a lot of points. During fights you’ll also want to utilise your companion cooldowns to maintain combos and to stagger enemies to enable comboing and juggling

The hardest criteria is Just Timing. To attain an S rank you’d need to hit 85%+ and to attain A rank you’d need to hit 70%+. You always need to hit 70%+ on a chorus to get a S rank overall. This is probably the hardest part of the achievement as you need to understand the timing of the beats for the entirety of the game's music. Practice does help here and the longer you play the more you'll improve . You can enable the beat map which can give you visual aid on the music’s timing.

If you’re having a bad fight you can always back out to the title screen and reload to the previous checkpoint. This can be helpful for some fights that either give little room to push for points or have a threat of you dying.

Rhythm Tower

For the rhythm tower you’ll have to climb through 60 floors under a time limit.

Here I’d recommend a combination of the following chips;

  • High Risk, High Return (Speeds up round clears)
  • Parry Health (Provide additional health)
  • Parry Charge (Provides additional powerbar)
For powerups I’d recommend the following;

  • Pick me up (Provides a safety net from dying)
  • Pick slide (Destroys barriers and Z shields)
In this game mode you’ll want to play as aggressively as possible to accumulate time. Your powerbar is maintained at the end of every fight and can be used to continuously topup your health. Use pick slide into any barrier or Z shield enemies to save time.

Both pick me up and parry health should be sufficient for survival throughout all 60 floors. If you’re having trouble gaining time I’d put on high risk, high return this speeds up clear times on all floors.

Currently I’m unsure the time remaining required for S rank i achieved it with 10+ minutes remaining it could be a lot less however.

Personal Management (No hit bosses)

For the no hit bosses, turn the difficulty down to easy. Put on the following chip set;

  • High Risk, High Return Level 3 (BIG Damage)
  • Invincible D-Parry Level 2 (Invincibility post directional parry)
All bosses have multiple phases each of which autosaves at the end of phase. If you take damage during a phase, exit to the title and reload to continue from that phase.

Quick note you also need to dodge Kale’s quick time events to do the no hit.

-

Overall this achievement is more time consuming than anything. If you get frustrated / burned out, take a break and come back to it later.

@Dr Hep Keep an eye on your rhythm meter during fights (the bar and letter on the top right). If it drops down to D, you auto fail. That's how that difficulty works. It's annoying on phases without enemies or invincible bosses, but you can keep it up by dashing, partner attacks, and even just whiffing regular attacks to the beat. You may also want the chip that adds to your rhythm meter.

@SamirHq the game seems to checkpoint the second you die, so the only way I can think of would be to quit to dashboard before it can finish (I'd be worried about corrupting my save doing that, though). You can return to checkpoint before you die without using a continue by either going to hideout or toggling streamer mode, so I would just keep an eye on your health and do that if you feel you're in danger. Also, I don't know the exact thresholds, but I was able to get an S rank for a track where all choruses were S ranks and I used one continue, so there is some leeway there.

I personally found the 4 bar specials a bit too expensive to get good usage. I think the biggest problem with 4 bar attacks is they take too long to build which can result in fights ending before a good use and the fact the bar empties at the end of every fight. If the bar carried through fights it'd be quite good.

Beat a vending machine until the cans are on the ground and then walk over the cans in the direction of a nearby trashcan . Sometimes the empty can will be kicked in the trashcan.

I think Hibiki's great, get 4 bars from the first wave of enemies then use it on the second is what's happening the majority of the time.

After reading through this, it sounds hard but doable. So the best thing is to start on normal just to get the hang of it since it's level select?

Can you tell me what exactly does High Risk High return do ? I dont have the Challenge for unlocking all chips yet but I have maxed all that I found. I think the last one has to do with either completing the secret boss after completing all 8 Spectra Challenge Rooms or after Beating the Rhythm Tower which I have not tryed yet. I actually play the Game in German so I dont 100% know what High Risk High return is xD.

High risk, high return increases the damage you deal and take by a percentage amount based on chip level (Level 1 - 50%, Level 2 100%, Level 3 150%). Its really good for phasing bosses quickly and the damage taken aspect is kinda null if you're wanting a no hit run.

Is there a way to set the continue counter to zero?
I'm trying to get S rank on rhythm master but my Rank reached D at the Boss fight and I died.

Then I defeated the boss with S Rank but only got an overall A Rank.

You can't reset your continue counter once you die unfortuanately. If you have periods where you can't attack try and triple dash to the beat whilst using companion cooldowns, the meter can't drop to a D whilst doing that.

High risk, high return is found through completing all Spectra doors post game.

For S rank on any mission easy way to do is fight a segment and if you don't have a S or A ( for exemple if have a 10 segment in a mission, you need a 5 S and 5 A for a complete mission rank S) so if a segment you don't have ,just press start ,back in a room and continue, you back just before a fight and you can retry !

Sorry for my bad accent english its not my native luanguage !

Good hunting all !

The high risk high return chip appeared for me after completing Rhythm Master difficulty. I did very hard, then rhythm master. Before checking the shop, I did the Spectra 9-16 doors too... but I'm guessing it was either the difficulty that caused the reward, or just a 2nd playthrough reward honestly.

As far as I'm aware you can't take any damage including the fights and rail sections during the escape. If you take damage back out and load back in, it should reset the damage.

@Haru8A Recorded it for you. https://gamerdvr.com/gamer/the-allslayer/video/172161954 It's a pretty simple combo really the only thing I can think of is you're either trying to do it in training which wont count or you're not pressing the direction before and after the grapple, the move can be done without moving the left stick at all but it's required to complete the challenge.

@The Allslayer I really do appreciate it, now I only have one mission which I don't know how to get it, it called Law of Attraction it want me to do magnet Link and I don't know what is that, I thought that I have to press LB to use grab to enemies but it didn't work, what should I do I only have this last mission

By Haru8A on 14 Feb 2023 19:55
Yeah the game doesn't explain how that works. From what I can tell you have to use it in combos and quickly attack them after you reach them. It'll say Magnet Link on the right under your score but it doesn't seem to always work for some reason.
0
0
By The Allslayer on 15 Feb 2023 09:34
The most reliable place I got the magnet link challenge was one of the spectra doors where you have to stay off the ground (think it was 9). Magnet a flyer, hit once, magnet another, hit once, repeat. It's definitely finicky, though. Like Allslayer said, it only seems to work after a combo starts, so you have to get one hit in first before a magnet. Also, since it's a multiplier bonus, I don't think it'll activate another one before the current one's timer runs out.

For chip recommendations, I'd like to add the battery magnet, if you can regularly hit beat hits. I can finish almost every floor in rhythm tower with at least 4 bars of reverb with it, sometimes even the full 8. Same for the main game, after exploring and breaking barrels/scrubs/etc. I go into about 90% of fights with 4 reverb and some with 8. Lets me either start with hibiki or spam overkill bonuses on fights with less enemies.

At the Hideout after Track 2 rn. Excluding High Risk, High Return does it get easier to get S ranks in Time and Score later in the game? Just Timing for me is basically irrelevant due to my experience in "Metal: Hellsinger" without the metronome (only got S ranks in Just Timing in Tracks 2; I think all of them were at least 90%) but Time and Score have been a bit of a struggle to get S ranks for: only S ranked 6 Choruses in the first two Tracks.

By ChiflaGoodluck on 23 Mar 2023 11:05
@ChiflaGoodluck Yes, S ranks aren't exactly easy when you have a very limited moveset. If you want there's a combo you can just spam in basically every fight except bosses and get an S for time and score easy. Hey you're already doing better than me I didn't get a single S rank in any fight my first playthrough, although I would later find that was almost entirely because I played using a headset which caused a delay.

You mean Shred? That is proving to be gigantic overkill personally: have 8 of the 12 Tracks S-ranked on Very Hard now with little challenge present; for most of the Tracks I S-ranked every Chorus. Normal and Hard playthroughs (and potentially most of Rhythm Master but we’ll see how that goes) are probably just gonna be slaughter sprees (Easy run will at least have Personnel Management to do).

Edit (3/4/23): Okay no High Risk, High Return Lv. 3 makes Personnel Management a relative cakewalk.

Edit (7/4/23): Noticed some errors regarding the S-ranks that I want to quickly correct: you can get away with one death for an overall S-rank; S+-ranks (which aren’t required for the completion) require a no-death run. You also only need to S-rank half of a Track’s Choruses for an overall S-rank, provided you get an A on the rest.

Nah Jam combo with Mac on the ground into Jam combo with Korsica in the air using Peppermint everytime shes off cooldown to shoot will give you a 100 hit combo in no time which will get you to S for score in most fights whilst been almost entirely safe.

Alright, I am basically done with this achievement. I still have one challenge left (plus the one for completing every other challenge which is why my percentage for the achievement is at 98%) but that’s just for completing the Rhythm Tower twice so that’ll basically be a victory lap. Want to share my thoughts on it real quick.

This achievement - if anything - separates those who don’t have rhythm and those who do. If you don’t have rhythm this achievement may seem like a nightmare. As someone that does have rhythm I found it to be generally easy. There were some exceptions like Kale but bar Roquefort on Rhythm Master (who I only point out because he made me use Pick Me Up a lot to survive without going into my Health Tanks) basically all of those struggles were on the first playthrough, when you don’t have access to all the broken tools like Korsica and are figuring everything out. Once you have all the partners those with rhythm are going to have no trouble with the 60 S-ranks, with or without the ‘Exit to Hideout’ cheese; I myself almost always scored at least 90% Just Timing on a Chorus and got about a dozen 100% Just Timing Choruses, maybe more. Personnel Management is honestly even easier, with the chip loadout mentioned above and on Easy everyone gets melted really fast, and the ‘Return to Hideout’ cheese cements it as a joke. Rhythm Tower I would say is the hardest but only because of its mostly weak competition (Rhythm Master can very occasionally be a bit of a pain) and its length: without High Risk, High Return I finished it in 51 minutes, whilst a Track takes at most 20 or so minutes once you have taken care of all of the collectibles present in said Track (i.e 3rd run onwards). Otherwise the ability to keep your Reverb Gauge between floors allows you to easily melt the harder floors via Hibiki (which FYI also gets rid of barriers and Z-Shields), and I found the S-rank requirement (suggested to be around 8 minutes) to be laughably generous: I had a whopping 17 minutes left when I was done. Will say though, appreciated how fast the BPM was for Floors 51-59. That was a nice rush.

Also, for those that are struggling with the Rhythm Tower S-rank due to time, quick tip. After the end of a floor but before the screen fades to black you have enough time to get out a Quick Beat-Hit (cn_X + cn_A) to get yourself a free 3 seconds per floor, provided you get a Perfect on the hit. Given that there are 55 floors where you have enough time before that happens (Floor 30 is a normal floor, not a boss floor) that’ll get you almost 3 free minutes over the run.

1. No
2. Does it really matter? You only need to S-rank half of the Choruses in a given track provided you get an A on the rest.

Thanks for the great tips, feels more doable than originally thought, most of my failed S ranks in fights have been missing the 70% accuracy but that does get better overtime as you learn the timings and combo muscle memory.
Any thoughts on Hibiki as a special to run, or is it too expensive at 4 bars?
I like it for the big score boost and damage.

To be honest, I can't remember where it unlocked. If you've both just completed your first playthrough, you'll most likely find it in the additional rooms that'd require companions in earlier levels. So Track 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 will probably have the chip. You might also find them in the spectra door challenges which open post-game.

As for chip levels in rhythm tower, for your first playthrough try parry health level 3 and parry charge level 2. I got around 10:24 remaining using that setup, which got a S rank. If you get below S rank on that runthrough, swap to high risk high return to whatever level you're confident using, I used level 2 on my second run through and ended with 16:36 remaining. It speeds it up a lot but you run more risk of dying.

Did Kale yesterday without getting Hit be sure to have the High Risk High Reward Chip maxed out equipped and use the special Move that only costs one Powerbar for his third phase which was the Hardest for me you can simply do the special Move 2 times and then hit him a few times while he is staggered and you will gain enough energy to do the same thing again and he is done. That way I got him down really quick. Hope this helps :))

By LancerFenix1991 on 21 Feb 2023 17:11
@LancerFenix1991 The cans come from when you hit the vending machines. Trash cans are always nearby, if not directly next to the vending machine. You just have to run into the can in the direction of the trash can to kick them in. It's a little finicky, but if you do it right/RNG works with you, the can will fly into the trash at high speed and there will be some visual effects accompanying the can going in.

@reyycist iirc, that chip and one other is unlocked for purchase after the hidden ending from doing all the spectra doors.

Just want to add here: If you - like me in the beginning - have trouble achieving S-Rank in points: The key seems to be to get a 100-hit-combo in the fights, since this gives a big bonus. That’s almost always a guaranteed S-Rank. So often call in Peppermint, do Jam-Combos with Macaron and Korsica and use the Y-X-X-X combo, since those come with a lot of hits.
Also if you do Jam-combos, this „resets“ the enemies and stops their attacks for a short time.

Completing the Wall of Fame is by far the hardest achievement in the game, because it pretty much encompasses everything. Finishing every difficulty level, collecting every collectible, heck, you even have to beat all the bosses without being hit and S rank every stage on every difficulty level.

While that might sound impossible, with some practice and application, you’ll be smashing through the bosses without a care in the world in no-time whatsoever. If you do get hit though, just exit, and reload the save.

In all, the Wall of Fame requires you to do the following:
  • 60 combat challenges
  • 14 item challenges
  • 38 stage challenges
  • 22 stage only rewards
  • 4 etc. rewards
Good luck… gulp!

A couple of notes before we move on.

For the complete without taking a hit challenges, aside from the obvious being: practice, practice, pratice. Also try to use the Barrier Wall Special Attack to block damage; and the Invincibility D-Parry chip, which can give you 9 beats of invincibility at level 3 with a successful directional parry.

And for the S Ranking ones… equip the level 3 version of the Rhythm Meter Rush chip (which makes the meter go up quicker). Throw in Combo Holder too (which gives you longer before the combo drop) and that should take the pain off every so slightly.
