How to unlock the Swamp Survivor achievement in Iron Brigade - Definitive Guide
Here's a fun achievement. I personally love Swamp, and I've gotten further in it than on the other survival maps. Here's a strategy that works pretty well. You'll want two people, one to watch each base, but the strategy works with just one person too. Your bases will probably take a fair bit of damage early on, but later you'll mostly just be running around, collecting scrap, and upgrading turrets. Here's a list of what you'll need, equipment-wise:
Chassis: Selker V
Legs: Sprinting Biped Legs
Guns: Muerte Fiesta Numero 6
**This is the wave reward for getting to wave 5 onSwamp Settlement, but hopefully you've got/can get two**
Turrets: The best mine layer, sniper tower, and machine gun turrets you've got. You'll have one extra green turret slot, but flak guns and shotguns are so useless it hurts. If you have the camo shotgun turret from Survival Settlement, get that. Otherwise, leave the slot empty to avoid placing a useless turret by accident.
Kind of a map:

The green dots are where you want your sniper turrets, the pink dots are for your machine guns, and the blue lines/dots are for your mine layers. You'll do want to do each type in different steps, but I'll walk you through it.
First, put two sniper turrets on the water towers below the supply base. Get them on the towers, or you'll lose them, and you can't afford that early on. You'll have to cover the bases yourself until you get your other turrets up.
Second, put the two machine guns by the ship, and then the one by the supply base. This will help take the heat off, but you'll have to watch them when the knobs show up. Decide for yourself if you want to put another there.
Now put two mine layers in front of the ship and one along the other two routes. This will help with the Jacobs, which are going to be your biggest threat. Whenever those show up, run over and kill them as fast as you can. Turrets sometimes take care of it for you, but a lot of the time they can't hit the Jacobs because of the other tubes around it.
Back to sniper turrets now. Put two on the ledge next to the ship and one on each of the two marked buildings closest to the supply depot.
Now for the last of your machine gun turrets. There's a ramp to the left of the ship and some buildings next to a wall. Put two on either side of the ramp and one in the middle of the top buildings. This last one probably won't be able to hit anything, but the knobs will try to target it and end up running into the corner. You want it back there because the burst transmitters will kill it if it's too close to the ledge.
For the rest of the game, you should alternate between putting mine layers along the blue paths, placing sniper turrets on the ledge to the bottom right, and upgrading turrets, prioritizing snipers, then machine guns, and finally mine layers.
And that should do it. You should adjust the layout as you need or as you prefer, but this set-up has always worked for me. The snipers have such long range that when you get enough of them, volt droppers and other air units will be a joke. Along with the mine layers, they'll rip apart the Big Willy's and Berthas, and the machine guns will take care of your knob problems.
I can't stress enough how much you need to take out the Jacobs yourself. The turrets will try their hardest, but there's just no way they can deal with them most of the time. The Muerte Fiestas are powerful enough that even with two, you'll wreck whatever it is you're shooting. Early on, you'll have to use them on the breakers, but again, your mine layers and snipers will quickly start taking care of them for you.
Hopefully this set-up helps you get to wave 20. You only have to get to that wave for the achievement, not beat it. That said, people have reported not unlocking the achievement right away, even after they get to and/or beat wave 20. This seems to be a glitch, it should unlock if you keep playing. It may be during a later wave or maybe even when you're chilling out on the ship. With luck, it will unlock without a problem, but other than that, you should be good to go.
By the way, I was able to solo up to wave 37 before I got distracted and a Jacobs helped one of the tubes lick my base to death. (That sounds dirty and sexy at the same time, doesn't it?) Anyway, good luck and good hunting.
To those who vote, up or down, thank you for taking part in the democratic process.
Special thanks to Der Roi for pointing out that Muerte Fiesta Numero 6 is the level 5 reward for the Settlement map, not the Swamp map.
