How to unlock the Friends of sorts achievement in Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth - Definitive Guide

Chapter 2.
To make friends with this gloomy guy you will need to make the following choices:
1. After Jack encounters Alfred's family and agrees to help them retrace the steps of the monk who took the baby, we find ourselves on a map where we can choose one of two directions - walk along the river or cross the river. The choice is purely “decorative” and does not have any impact on the further plot or the possibility of obtaining any trophies. Depending on the choice of direction, we will need to do the following:

And the path “Walk along the river” is chosen - Alfred is the first to notice the hoof marks of the monk’s horse on the other bank. In order to become his friend in the future, we need to select the “Admit defeat” option.
B The path “Cross the river” was chosen - while crossing the river, Alfred slipped and fell into the cold water. In order to become his friend in the future, we need to select the option “So I decided to help him get up.”

2. The descending fog and fatigue will force travelers to take a break. After Alfred and Martha doze off, we will have the opportunity to take revenge on the rude Alfrud, snoring sweetly under the spreading spruce tree and use a sling on a snow-covered tree branch to drop a snow cap on his head. If you want to become his friend in the future, do not do this act, but just talk to him.

3. When both families gather in the cave and Jack’s mother tells him to treat Tom’s children with stew, first of all, bring the bowl of stew to Alfred, selecting the “Give the stew to Alfred” option.

You can continue completing these trophies and finally get them in the third chapter.

Chapter 3.
If you decide to make friends with Alfred, then you can’t get away with just a chicken leg - you’ll have to be a family psychologist.
After arriving in Earlscastle, Tom goes home in search of work, we need to talk to Alfred. When he asks what we think about his father, we need to choose the answer “He is kind,” to which Alfred will notice that Tom is only pretending to be kind, but in fact he is still selfish and thinks only of himself. After this, we have an active key dialogue “Alfred believes that Tom doesn’t care about him,” which should first be used on his mother. Evelyn will advise Jack to tell Tom about this directly. We look for the latter at the stables and use the key dialogue on him, without a twinge of conscience, handing over all of Alfred’s revelations to the father of the family. Tom decides to talk frankly with his son, and we, having partially solved the eternal problem of fathers and sons, become one step closer to friendship with Alfred. After this, we perform all the actions necessary to obtain the trophy One Day I Will Be a Knight and bring the unclaimed chicken leg to hungry Alfred. Teenagers are small men, which means the way to their heart also lies through their stomach. You won’t become bosom friends so quickly, but the ice has been melted - Alfred will no longer mock you, which means the trophy is yours. Now you can save the game and start the second chapter again to go the other way and get the trophy for the feud with Alfred.
