How to unlock the Out of Your League achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

Here's how I did it, the really easy way.

Things required:
- Level 1 toon, you should have a save name "Tutorial complete" which should bring you after the lab, in the forest at level 1.
- One lockpick
- A full fate bar (optional)

How-to:
- Get to the entrance of Lawbreaker's grotto in Gohart (first town)
- Pick the lock and enter the prison
- Wait for the guards to be far from you, they go around the place a lot
- Time to activate "aggressive mode" -> Right bumper then up on the joypad
- Now, use the lever to open the prison gates
- Run/roll fast to the prisoner
- Now, activate reckoning mode, both triggers at the same time (optional)
- He should be unarmed. This is the guy you want to kill , he dies fast and he won't probably fight back. Press A to finish him up once his health is low.
- If any guard comes for you, bride them or resist arrest if required but the other prisoner should already be dead or about to be.
- Achievement unlocked!

EDIT: I've uploaded a really crappy quality video of it in case it could help someone :)

Perfectly possible to do on hard mode without using fateweaving and also not alerting the guards. A very good solution.

I just got this achievement. Though while using portion of your method, I also changed a few things. The Guards weren't hostile to me, and greeted me instead. Without opening the door to the cell I attacked him with Chakrams. Though any magical ranged will get him to come to the bars and be unable to attack you back. Negating any need for fate. Hope this helps.

I'm a level 5 didn't work for me guess you gotta be a low lever because all the prisoners and guards are yellow.

I'll do the tutorial load out. Should work. Thanks! +1

Just as a variation, you don't need a lockpick, just stealth behind the gate guard wait for the eye to return to unseen and pick pocket the key. Great solution.

Did this on hard at level 1. You need to be fast because the guards will run back and 1-hit KO you. Don’t forget to use the lightning bolt!

I want to start out by saying that I was level 6 when I got this achievement. What you're looking for is an enemy whose name is highlighted in RED. Not orange or yellow, RED.

So here, unfortunately, is what I did for this (reference your map):

I literally ran all the way down to the region of Detyre. Once I got down there (by going through The Sidhe) I ran all the way through Alserund, south, to Menetyre.

From there I went into one of the caves at the very bottom right of Menetyre inside Tearscotter Mine.

There I ran into 3 Kobolds that the names on them were RED. I killed one, which I won't lie, took quite a few of my health potions, and *BLEEP* achievement unlocked.
-----
From what I can tell, depending on where you are in the game you just need to run ahead a few areas and find a cave or a mine and see if they are red or not. It might help by going to a whole different region. Such as the desert instead of the forest.

Hope this helps.

Alternative Method (credit goes to: Tulen)

Playing on hard, once you get into the first town get caught pickpocketing and go to jail. To make it easier, make sure your Fateshift is ready to be activated.

Once in jail, break out and get your gear then fight one of the guards (their name should be in RED) and kill him. Achievement should pop.

Also, if you haven't got:
Kingdoms of Amalur: ReckoningJailbreakThe Jailbreak achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning worth 18 pointsBreak out of jail.

You will receive this as well for breaking out of jail.

Got this by accident at lv 1 on hard. Got jailed in the 1st town, after picking the lock, getting my gear, then pulling the lever the unarmed guy in the cell the lever opened attacked me. Easy kill.

getting jailed in the first town just after starting the game is probably the easiest way, especially if you use your Fateshift. I was lvl 1 when I did it.

Great idea. A helpful hint: make sure you're fateshift is full up before you do the run. Make's it a lot easier to pound on the enemy. I headed East from the top part of the map, passed the Traveler's area (I guess, didn't stop to find out) and moved into a new region. As I ran through there I got attacked by some assassin's who were Red so killed one of them to get it. Never even had to find a dungeon.

Hall Of Firstworn worked for me...

When I strolled into Tearscotter Mine quite the legend, it appeared the Kobolds in
there were WEAK! They lit up in Green instead of the much wanted Red.

But my question is that if you're playing on hard and it switch it to casual will it mess up your hard achievement later? I guess if you made a save before it, it would work out okay though.

By knight0fkh0nshu on 12 Feb 2012 00:22
Can't see why it would mess up unless you screw about with the difficulties before actually making the save. But to be safe you can always copy the save to the hard drive/memory card/ cloud to get the achievement and revert back to a save stored in it's original location to continue on.

I got this from a Cave Mulgrum while I was level 6. Went all the way north to some area where there was a cave called Gloaming something.

I'd like to point out that if you level up to within 3 levels of the enemy you just killed (ie you're level 6 and killing one of the level 10 Kobolds in Tearscotter Mine is enough to bump you up to 7), the achievement wont count.

A good alternative is in Zungar Shaft, north of Whitestone. There are Giant Rats inside that you can use to at least level 7, and they're far easier to deal with than the Kobolds as they only have one attack.

I got this at level 3 in starting area of Detrye. There is a warlock that's down the road from when you first enter the area. Having the Harpoon ability came in handy here. It's great for interrupting spells the lock's spells because the really hurt at level 3 : )

The jail method works fine, but why do it on hard????? lower the difficulty when in jail to casual (you should make a save to go back to when this is done prior to getting arrested). Once you escape run to get the gear then run away down the tunnels and take a left to the exit tunnel and hit RB to go stealth once out of sight of the guards, they will turn away and head back , the lady straggles and you can equip the daggers for an easy stealth kill on her ;)

Oh by the way I was miles past this point when I discovered in my list of load games there was an autosave still there from the point where you exit the tower at the start, called something like tutorial complete, worth checking to see if you have it!!!!!!!

1. Load up the Tutorial auto save.
2. optional: Pass gorhart & get your reckoning full.
3. Go (back) to gorhart & get arrested/go to jail.
4. Save Here.
5. Pick the lock (if it breaks, reload save) but wait for the guards to walk away, you wont be able to beat them. After a few min/sec, they will walk further down the hall.
6. Pull the lever next to your loot chest (open chest). And it will open the cell with an unarmed inmate who is Red. He shouldn't give you too much trouble especially with reckoning active.

I stumbled on this one kind of by accident, near the end of the 'Bad Blood' side quest. Let's be clear this is NOT as easy as the method above with the tutorial autosave, I was lvl 23 at the time, and it was a tough fight ...

*minor spoilers*

You obtain the Bad Blood quest in the upper portion of Rathir, out side the House of Anwon, and it has you investigating a poisoning. After finding a cure for the man, you look for evidence on who is responsible. You report your findings to the City Watch, who send 2 guards with you to confront the suspect (Lord Abergast) .

Now for the achievement ...

After the sequence in the house had finished, I roamed the house to look for loot, and found some in the back (maybe just a bookshelf, I forget), but I took something and the guards who were there WITH ME didn't like that, and rather than give me the pay fine/jail/resist options, they just started swinging, so I had to take them out.
These guys were really tough, I burned through a couple of fate potions and some health potions taking them both out, but I got the achievemnt after dropping the first one.

This one is actually kind of really hard because enemies four levels higher than you are actually on the next area maps, so you have to run past everything without leveling up.

Basically, this is going to take a lot of patience and a separate save file from your regular game. After you exit Allestar Tower (save), you need to run past everything and not stop. You'll end up being caught in the tutorial where you meet with Agarth. Do that and move on to Gorhart. If you have the money, BUY some health poultices. If not, keep going and try not to discover anything more than you have to.

You need to leave the region of Dalentrath for either the region of Detrye or the Plains of Erathell. Personally, I think the enemies on the Plains of Erathell were easier, so I'm going to describe fighting them; though you probably could use this strategy on the enemies in Detrye. You'll want to head to Emaire.

The highest level you should be at this point is level 2, if you're higher than that, restart from your save and try again. (Save here in a separate slot.) Once you get there, there'll be a three way intersection, turn to the right and follow the road over the bridge. Three bandits should appear. Be careful that they don't surround you because the damage they can do is astounding.

Basically this is going to be a hit and dodge battle. The idea is to try to space them out enough for you to get a hit then roll away, get a hit, roll away. You get the idea. You will need to use your potions if you get hit. Magic is always a good idea if you are far away enough from them; but it won't do too much damage.

Now if you run out of potions, just run back over the bridge and into town. They shouldn't follow you this far and they won't regenerate health (at least they didn't in my case). Do this for a while and you should be able to kill one of them. The trophy should pop, and if it does, congrats.

I went about this achievement a little differently. from the 'tutorial complete' save file, i made my way directly to the town of ayten. (for those of you who are un-familiar with the game, just use your world map, & work your way to an area called the wolds. you can simply run past/avoid all enemies along your path.ayten will be the town you see as soon as you enter) once in ayten, follow the path thru town. you'll probably pass fenwyck iver, & you'll definately pass someone called ayten militia. straight ahead of you is a farm. as you approach the farm, (probably just after going down a set of steps) you will be ambushed by 3 freeman bandits, who will all be way out of your league. turn around & run back into ayten. the bandits will follow you for a bit, then lose interest & head back towards the farm. on the way back, one of them will stop & get into a brawl with the ayten militia. (i've seen 2 stop, but usually just one does. if 2 do stop, approach carefully, as one of them may turn their attention back to you.) once a freeman bandit & the ayten militia are fighting, you can walk up & join the brawl, or watch the militia whittle his health down. as long as there's only 1 bandit there, his attention should stay focused on the militia, allowing you to wail away at him. you just want to make sure that it's you, & not the militia, who deals the killing blow. not to worry if you miss it, tho... simply repeat the process with the remaining 2 bandits. doing it this way does require a bit more of a walk to begin with, but yields a far easier battle than trying to go toe to toe with someone who could kill you in just a few hits. also, no fate bar or potions are required. i got this cheeve painlessly on my 1st attempt playing on the hard difficulty. hopefully this will be of use to some of you. :)

***MISSABLE***

Enemy names are color coded. To kill a enemy 4 levels higher, you’ll need to find yourself a red named enemy. You can do this by traveling to the far east when you’ve just started the game.

You can get this trophy up to at least level 31. Here's a dungeon you can access that has Level 35+ enemies (this dungeon doesn't unlock until you've completed the Main story quest line):

You can also use the following trick:

(Picklock the Prison door in Gothart. Once inside, walk all the way to the back of the prison and use the lever. This will open the jail gate of a prisoner. Run up to him and press  to activate aggressive mode. Quickly enter Reckoning mode and kill him. If you don't have any Fate left, go outside the village first and kill a few enemies).
0
0

The levels of enemies can be seen by the color of their name above their head. Yellow is your level, orange is two levels above you, and red is four. Simply venture to unknown areas using your map () to find a red-tagged enemy. To make the fight simple, save a Reckoning ability with which to kill him. The damage from your attacks will help kill any surrounding creatures and easily help you dispatch the mob.

If you leave the starting zone for the zone to the southeast (Haxhi) you should be able to find a thresh that's easy to kill, especially with DLC armor and weapons, and a saved Reckoning. Alternatively, load up the Autosave that the game creates just after the tutorial and head to Gorhart. Commit a crime and agree to jail, then escape and (with a Reckoning), attack and kill either the other prisoner. Open his cell with the switch near the chest that your equipment is in.

An easy trophy, taken in the first village, you need to break the door to the prison and open the doors of the cells, then the prisoner will leave the cell, he will fall with one blow.

you don’t even have to run to prison, in the first village they approached the guard, stole something from him and after that there will be a choice: go to jail, pay or send, you choose to send, turn on reconning, take down the guard and get the trophy.

Enemy names are coded by the color of their name above their head:
  • yellow - level matches
  • orange - the enemy is two levels stronger
  • red - 4 or more

If you missed it at the beginning of the game, you can get up to approximately 31 levels as the game progresses. You can simply go as far east as possible until you meet the required enemy.

The dungeon in which enemies of level 35+ are encountered is marked on the map (opens only upon completion of the main quest line):
