How to unlock the The Witch's Ultimate Weapon achievement in Knights Contract - Definitive Guide

I can confirm that the "spirit cannon" can be gotten on the difficulty "squire" as long as you "S" rank every level.I just got it.

Just to be clear, this achievement can be gotten on Squire or Higher. Not on Page.

Confirmed for being unlockable on Squire. I was really hoping it would be an awesome weapon, though. Sad face.

GamerDTK probably did get his last S rank on a level before episode 20. You have to get your last S rank on the final boss. If your last S rank is on any other Episode you have to beat the boss again. Not sure if you need to get S rank if you already have it.

Like xF02 said, you need to get an S rank on all levels. The minimum ranks you need on each level are to get are 3 S an A and a B on the 5 level requirements, those being Time, Combos, Finishers, Kills and Retries. The best tips I can give you are play on Hexen Knight as the increased health of enemies allows you to pull off bigger combos, and use Mag Mells Rose as a finisher as that will 9 times out of 10 give you an S+ combo. Time shouldn't be a problem as the developers seemed very forgiving with how long it should take to finish the level. Don't worry too much about Finishers, if you use them without actively going for them you usually get an A rank anyway. There are also a few levels that no matter how hard I looked around and replayed my kills just weren't up to scratch leaving me with an A or even a B, but as long as your quick, keep up your combos and don't retry you should be fine.
Hope this helps guys.

I got fooled by this one actually and some other guide I read somewhere! On Episode two you can´t get a finisher and will get a C rank. I tried for an hour to get a finisher on the boss and just could not do it because it can´t be done.

Unfortunately I did not get S on all the other ranks the first time I did the boss so I did not realise that it is ok to get C rank on one of the criteria as long you get at least S on the others. So me trying to get this finisher did not help because each time I finished the level I had A or worse on one of the other ranks.

Also it is MUCH better to play on squire because it is super easy to get finishers and a good time for the levels and not die. I don´t understand why someone would recommend a tougher difficulty unless they want a higher challenge.

So S, S, S, S and C will give you an S rank.

You need a ranking evaluation of S for each level on the same difficulty. I suggest to don't stress about it in the beginning of yours first playthrough.
First an S rank is gained as a mean among five points:
- Time (usually under thirty minutes),
- Combos (you need to gain an evaluation of S or S+ while using combos; it's easier when witchcrafts are upgraded),
- Finisher (it's not totally clear to me but I guess that it depends on the number of finishers you do),
- Kills (you need to reach a set amount of kills; it's different for each level),
- Tries: (number of time you died and retried).
Acquiring three S and two A give you a total rank of S.
The levels are replayable through chapter select.
Upgrading the witchcrafts to level three is extremely important for S rank in combos, finishers and time.

The Spirit Cannon is the last Witchcraft in which you can obtain. To unlock it, you must score an S-Rank on every episode, and beat the final boss, on Squire difficulty or higher. Note you must S-Rank each Episode all under one difficulty and defeat the final boss in order to unlock the Cannon; you cannot mix and match Episodes from different difficulties. If you haven't scored an S Rank in certain episodes, you must go back and earn an S Rank on them, and defeat the final boss again.

At the end of each episode, you'll be graded based on your performance in game time in that episode, a C grade being the lowest and the S grade being the highest:

  • Time - The developers were very generous in terms of the time limit required for S-Rank. Even if you go out of your way to collect collectibles, as long as you don't idle, you will have no problem earning a S-Rank on the time for each level.
  • Combos - Getting a S-Rank in combos is all about variety; scoring a lot of hits and the performing Finishers. If you're performing Finisher's and using Witchcraft's whenever you can, this will come naturally.
  • Kills - As long as you kill every enemy you come across as you progress a level, you will get this easily. If you're planning to skip enemies for whatever reason, just make sure you only skip a few and not too many.
  • Finishers - Performing Finishers is the best way to take down most enemies, so use it whenever you can. However, just performing one every so often will suffice.
  • Retries - A retry is when you're taken to the "Continue Screen", not when Heinrich needs a revive. Note that by pressing "Yes" or "No" during the Continue Screen, the game will still register the fact that you had to retry. A neat trick to get around this is to quit to the XMB whenever you die and the "Continue Screen" is displayed. Load back up the game, and select "Continue". You will continue the game from your pervious checkpoint with no evidence of you ever dying. Thanks to Mitsuru Kirijo for the tip!
Your overall rank for the level will be the average of these five categories (ie. S, A, B, S, S will get you an overall S rank). Five S ranks will get you an overall S+ for the episode, but an S rank in each episode is all that is needed to unlock the Cannon.

Achieving S Ranks in each episode might sound challenging at first, but it's easily doable once you know what to aim for.

you need to get S-ranks for completing each level and then it's yours. S-rank is obtained at any difficulty level from SQUIRE and higher. If S-ranks are obtained after killing the final boss, then you need to kill him again to receive the device and trophy.
