How to unlock the Why'd it have to be snakes? achievement in Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris - Definitive Guide

I've created a two-part 100% walkthrough video. It covers every single achievement in the game except the co-op ones and the speedruns, but the co-op are self-explanatory and the speedruns are super easy once you've played a level, since you can usually just run past everything and solve the puzzles most of the time. Contrary to some reports, you CAN get the gold points challenge on EVERY tomb on your first time through in solo play. Follow along with the video below as you play through the game (and part 2) to have your 1k in 8-10 hours tops. A detailed text guide follows after the time stamps for those that prefer it, copied over from the walkthrough I've written for this game.

This achievement is story-related for finishing the Tomb of the Silversmith.

Challenges: Bronze/Silver/Gold – 50,000pts; Complete in under 6:00; Collect 5 Red Skulls; Lure 10 scarabs onto skewers; Kill a shielded big skeleton with Apeps spitfire; Defeat Apep in 3:30 or less

You’ll have to open the tomb by doing a small fight outside. Use the staff with the blue circling platforms to get up to the eye on top of the center one and use a bomb on it to damage it. Kill the enemies, rinse and repeat until you can get the glowing ball and push it up the stairs to the right and into the switch to open the tomb.

Now for the main challenges run. In this run, you’ll get the 5 red skulls, lure the 10 scarabs, and kill a big shielded skeleton with apeps fire, and do the points challenges, assuming you maintain your multiplier. The 3:30 Apep kill will go along with the speedrun.

To start, head upstairs and use the staff to shoot a beam of light through one of the orbs on the side so it reflects off the mirrors and hits all three, dropping the spikes. In the next room, go to the upper-left corner and jump on the vases to jump up and get Red Skull #1/5. You’ll need to turn the mirror so it’s facing the central pillar and shoot the beam through one orb to reflect it into the 2nd. The next will have a switch to raise a mirror. This is the room where you lure 10 scarabs onto spikes. Just try to get all the scarabs bunched up into a single pile, and lure them around the room in circles until 10 impail themselves.

Before placing the ball on the switch, roll it over under Red Skull #2/5 and jump on top to jump up to the skull, then place it on the switch and use your staff to shoot through one glowing orb and reflect the beam into the 2nd to open the way forward. Make sure to grab the assault rifle right in the path as you leave. Use the blue platform with the staff to cross the pit, and you’ll see a scene with a shield skeleton. After dealing with the enemies, move the left-most mirror so that it’s facing diagonally up-right, and the right-most mirror so that it’s facing diagonally up-left, both at about a 45-degree angle. Try to shoot your light through one orb and into the mirror, adjusting your aim and the mirrors’ angles as necessary to hit both orbs and open the way forward.

As you climb up a couple sets of stairs ahead, make sure to go to the far left at the top to get Red Skull #3/5 just sitting out on a wooden platform. When crossing the bridge ahead, use the grapple point on the left to lower yourself down over the right side for Red Skull #4/5. Just after this is the boss fight against Apep. Before doing anything , look for Red Skull #5/5 on the left-hand side. Roll the ball under it and jump up to grab it. The boss fight has several phases, each with more balls to move and more mirror placement to figure out to shine your beam through all the glowing orbs. During the 3rd phase, a very large skeleton with a huge shield will come out. Just run around in small circles in one corner with the skeleton chasing you and eventually the boss’s multi-fireball attack will hit it a few times and kill it to complete that challenge, then just finish the boss off.

If you’re struggling with the mirror placement, check out the video below, although you’ll need to adjust which mirrors you use based on your randomized version of the fight. It’s random every time, but the same basic setup for the mirrors doesn’t change, it just rotates around the room as to which ones need to be up versus down. You'll unlock Why'd it have to be snakes for this first run.
