How to unlock the Let Bygones Be Bygones achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) - Definitive Guide

The game has three endings in total. These include 'The Forgiveness ending' which is this one Im currently writing about. Then the ending where you 'Don't Forgive' and finally the more secret ending which is 'The tree and the apple' or the one in which you find out what the true Inheritance is.

Both the Forgiveness and Don't Forgive endings are quite simple to work out.

For this one (Forgiveness) play through making sure you show the father in a good light.

FOLLOW THE PAINTERS/FATHERS PATH ALL THE WAY THROUGH

DURING THE MEMORY SEQUENCES:
1) Let the Dog out in the kitchen
2) Get the dog off the sofa
3) When the painter paints you make sure you listen and stay focused on him
4) Take the piano sheet music when the painter is playing piano (you will see it glowing white)
5) When in the closet lock yourself in
6) Play the phonograph for the mother
7) When playing the piano the mother will eventually tell you to get crayons, use the shapes on the music sheet to play the tune to your fathers approval
8) When given the option to paint or use a crayon in the Art studio you can use the crayon to go and do the stuff in that world e.g. Red riding hood story achievement and Slaying the Serpent BUT end it in the painters world not the crayon world
9) In the section where you collect three piece of paper with the wife's face view it after finding the pieces (If you have been following the Painters/Fathers path the wife should come out looking un disfigured)

Lucky, these endings seem to be much easier to trigger in comparison to the main game. I have branded this particular ending as the "Forgiving ending". In short, the sequences throughout the game will all need to follow a pattern of showing that your father's actions were supposedly based on his mental stability resulting from his "stressful" occupation and your mother's devastating injuries. The following will help you trigger this ending.

1. Always follow your father's portrait.

2. When you enter the workshop, always use the paint brush rather than crayons.

3. During the section where you are told to sit still and look at "me", you need to keep your crosshair on him.

4. Correctly playing the tune on the piano.

I hope this helps.
