How to unlock the Geneticist achievement in Lost Planet 3 - Definitive Guide

I thought I would share the information I found to the community on how to get the achievement, I do not claim this is my own material. Full credit goes to Vlad at vgfaqs.com

The Lost Planet 3 Bestiary Collectibles become available later in the game, after Peyton completes a series of quests for Dr. Roman.

This specific category of Lost Planet 3 collectibles is detailed by the following guide, which explains how to tag all creatures in Lost Planet 3, what creatures you have to find, and where to find them.

At some point in the game, while playing the main missions of the story, you will receive an item from Dr. Roman. It is a pistol that allows you to tag the creatures included in the planet’s fauna.

As soon as you get the tagger, you will have to focus on tagging all enemies you encounter, before killing them. If you open the menu you will also notice that the collectibles’ section includes a new tab called Bestiary.

The Bestiary tab features 10 entries that must be filled in order to unlock the Geneticist achievement/trophy and in order to complete the side-job you get from Dr. Roman.

An important fact that you have to consider is that not all entries can be filled by tagging Akrids. Some of these entries, which require the DNA from specific Akrids, can be filled only by finding specific spots in the game.

In other words, some DNA is kept inside objects such as consoles, and you have to retrieve them as well if you wish to fill Peyton’s bestiary.

To tag an Akrid and extract the creature’s DNA you have to equip the tagger from Dr. Roman, and fire once aiming for the creature you want to tag. Next you have to aim the same creature until the marker above its head fills up, allowing you to stock the data required.

Some creatures in Lost Planet 3 are easy to tag, but others can be challenging since you are not allowed to kill them. Instead, you have to continuously dodge their attacks and wait for the tagger to fill.

Furthermore, some Akrids that must be tagged spawn only in specific areas of the planet, therefore, the Lost Planet 3 Bestiary Locations guide below, reveals the areas you have to find and the Akrids you need to tag.

Also if you miss the Gorevorgg during the fight there is a giant claw belonging to the gorevorgg at the top point where you use the magnetic hook.

In other guides its states that this achievement is missable, but in my case luckily it wasn't the case.

During my first with the "King Crab" I totally forgot to tag it and killed it. After a few save points I come to realize that I cannot go back to the point where I fought the crab. Frustrated that I might have to spend another 4 hours to get back at that point I just wanted to give up.

For some reason I decided to explore the area where I killed the crab in question since I got a new grappling hook to play around with. At the base of steel tower I saw a huge crab claw, thinking what hell and shot it with a tag, DNA registered and achievement unlocked.

So don't give up if you miss to tag the "bosses" but I still recommend to tag the bosses as soon as possible.

Great guide thank you.

Bestiary Collectible 9 – Genessa DNA

In Diaz Cavern you will also find multiple spawning points also known as Genessa.

*In my experience Diaz Cavern they were all destroyed. I scanned a Genessa in another location. it is across the lava on the downed ship in Pickets Folly. Need to use your cable. Hope this helps,

Roman gives you a mission to tag Akrid for research during the ‘Test The DNA Tagger’ in ACT 1. She gives you Specialty Ammo for your pistol (Hold X Button). Shoot an untagged Akrid and remain aiming at it until the circle fills up. You can see your progress of DNA tagged Akrid in your Bestiary (Back Button). Make sure you keep track of which Akrid you’ve tagged, especially Bosses; some will only have one opportunity to be tagged.

  1. Akrid Egg (Can’t miss, main mission based)
  2. Tarkaa (Abandoned Base, During ‘Find A Way Out’ Mission in ACT 1)
  3. Ermmlid (Camp Of The Forgotten, during the fight with Sieragz Boss)
  4. Sepia (Everywhere, can get right after getting mission from Roman, near her pod)
  5. Bolsepia (Pretty common, can also get right after Sepia, near Roman’s pod)
  6. Genessa (Pretty Common, they’re the red/orange things on the walls that spawn enemies)
  7. Wardeye Male (Security Installation)
  8. Wardeye Female (Power Plant)
  9. Enbee (Shackleton’s Peak, Pickett’s Folly)
  10. Goonroe (Bailey’s Crossing, Shackleton’s Peak)
  11. Suwankaa (Marshall’s Gorge, Schackleton’s Peak)
  12. Dongo (White Canyon Junction, Bailey’s Crossing and Bishop’s Wake)
  13. Vorgg (Boss, Marshall’s Gorge)
  14. Gorevorgg (Boss, Bailey’s Crossing, Only Available during the ‘Kill King Crab’ Mission)
  15. Sieragz (Boss, Camp Of The Forgotten)
  16. Tangaant (Boss, Pickett’s Folly, I would suggest tagging it in your first encounter, there’s a few more opportunities)
  17. Hiveen (Boss, Weather Station, if you missed tagging this Boss you can download it from a computer at the Power Plant. This is in the same room as Lagan Cherupara’s Memento; see "Gone, But Not Forgotten" achievement)

***MISSABLE: THE GOREVORGG ONLY APPEARS IN 1 MISSION, TAG IT HERE, IT IS YOUR ONLY CHANCE TO DO SO***

The DNA bullets are given to you by Dr Roman. These can be accessed by getting out your main pistol and then holding down . You will notice that the ammo bar in the bottom right hand corner of your screen will go yellow and there will be only 1 bullet but with an infinite number of reserve bullets. You now have the DNA tagger bullets equipped. You will notice that when you press the button there is now a category under the collectables section called “Bestiary”. This shows you which Akrid species you have collected DNA for. Simply fire a bullet at the Akrid and then keep your aiming reticle over the Akrid until the green circle surrounding the DNA double helix symbol fills up. You will see a prompt appear in the top left hand corner notifying you that you have collected the DNA for that particular species.

See inside the spoiler below for a list of Akrid which must have their DNA collected as well as locations for them. CAUTION: There are also some story spoilers to describe locations.

1) Akrid egg: Done automatically in a mission.

2) Dongo: These are the Akrid which roll around and are exposed on their tail. They are commonly found in Bishop's Wake rolling around on the open and exposed ice plain.

3) Sepia: These are by far one of the most commonly found Akrid and have the appearance of a daffodil. They just lunge at you. These are tagged very quickly.

4) Wardeye (Female): These are the Akrid that hide behind cover. They are displayed on the trophy image for the trophy “Stop stalking me”. The female of the species has an orange glow to it and will project dart like objects at you. They are abundant in the Security Installation.

5) Wardeye (Male): These Akrid also hide behind cover and are almost identical in appearance to the Male Wardeye except they have a blue glow to them. The male of the species will attack you via melee attacks instead of shooting dart like objects at you. They too are abundant in the Security Installation.

6) Bolsepia: These are also incredibly common Akrid. These are the Akrid which spit fireballs at you and have the appearance of a ball on legs. They are literally found in any mission.

7) Tarkaa: These are the quick moving Akrid which run around on the floor. The first time you will meet one is when you are discovering the First Unknown structure and one will try and latch on to your face and you must repeatedly tap X in a quick time event to gain the chance to stab it. Try and tag one in this mission, if you fail to then they are abundantly found in the First Unknown structure upon re-visiting it when 'free-roaming'.

8) Genessa: These are the large, orange circular Akrid-spawners which Akrids such as the Sepia and Bolsepia will spawn out of. These are very easy to tag as they do not move or attack!

9) Enbee: These are the flying Akrid which are encountered whilst taking Storm readings on top of Shackleton's Peak. They can be tagged here but they also make an appearance when drilling for T-ENG in the rig at Pickett's Folly. These are just a few of many places they will spawn. They are easy to spot as they are the only flying Akrid species.

10) Goonroe: These are almost the flagship Akrid of LP3 and are the 'wolf' type Akrid that run around on all fours and have a large exposed orange patch in their mouths. They can be found very easily when ascending Shackleton's Peak. Instead of turning right to take the gondola to the peak, turn left when exiting the control boothe and you will crouch along a passage. At the end of this you will find a small ice plain with a generator with a blatant Blue light. Here will be a Goonroe and a Suwankaa also.

11) Suwankaa: This is the larger, white version of the Goonroe.

12) Vorgg: These are the crab-like Akrid. You will have numerous encounters with these such as when you are trying to align the dish on top of Shackleton's Peak or when you try and post a T-ENG post in the ice plain as part of a main mission. Make sure to tag one in the first encounter just to get it out of the way.

13) Gorevorgg: MISSABLE. This is the even larger crab-like Akrid. This will appear in the mission where you are contacted by a fellow NEVEC soldier and are told how the “giant Akrid” has been sighted and there is a very large bounty for killing it. There will be a small cutscene where it rises slowly from behind a snow hill to introduce it. Make sure you tag this as soon as possible. THIS IS YOUR ONLY CHANCE TO TAG THIS AKRID.

14) Tangaant: This Akrid closely resembles a scorpion. It is able to shot acid from its tail and also attack you with its front pincers. It's weak spot is on its tail. You will encounter one of these when getting the medical supplies in Pickett's Folly as part of a main mission but also when you reach the summit of Shackleton's Peak to take storm readings for Dr Roman. They sometimes will spawn at White Canyon Junction as well.

15) Sieragz: This Akrid attacks the Camp of the forgotten during a main campaign mission. In the cutscene it is bashing against the defenses and then impales a fleeing Snow Pirate soldier. It is capable of releasing many small Akrid from Its body that will dive-bomb at you, In doing so it will widen to reveal orange weak spots. This Akrid can also be seen in White Canyon Junction whilst there later in the game but not as part of a main campaign mission.

16) Emmlid: These are the small Akrid that the Sieragz releases from its body. Be very quick to tag these as they will kamikaze towards you and destruct on impact so you must tag them mid-flight.

17) Hiveen: Whilst you are descending Shackleton's Peak in the campaign mode, a big, tall akrid will attack you that can launch Tarkaa eggs from its head as well as being able to attack you with its very long tongue and claws. This is the Hiveen. This Akrid's weak point is on its forehead. You will battle it 3 times, twice on foot at 2 different points during your descent and then you will finish it off in your rig. You can collect the DNA with the traditional DNA tagger bullets OR you can collect the DNA through a machine as a collectable which is a unique option to this Akrid only. In the first unknown structure in the Science facility there will be a room which can only be accessed with the magnetic hook on the 2nd floor of the facility. Go in there and drop through the hole in the floor to where the momento of the chess piece is found. There will be a machine in there which you can collect the Hiveen DNA from as well.

1) Akrid egg: you will need to collect the quest immediately after modifying the pistol.
2) Dongo: A large beetle that curls into a ball to attack, with a vulnerable tail.
3) Sepia: a three-legged locust with a head-body like a bud.
4) Wardeye (Women): An Akrid that stands on its tail and shoots needles. Has an orange color.
5) Wardeye (Male): Unlike the female species, it has a blue color, does not shoot, likes to jump over and grab from the back.
6) Bolsepia: locust that shoots fireballs.
7) Tarkaa: fast small locusts, reminiscent of crabs from a predator, jump on the head and strangle with the tail.
8.) Genessa: The nest from which locusts breed. If you shoot all the bastards that climb out of it for about a minute, they stop respawning before attacking it.
9) Enbee: flying locusts that look like a large dragonfly.
10) Goonroe: A large quadrupedal locust with two tails.
11) Suwankaa: A larger variant of Goonroe, it has like fins/wings on its legs.
12) Vorgg: a large crab, appears several times throughout the story.
13) Gorevorgg: can be skipped. Looks like Vorgg, but much larger, found near the end of the game in the story. For defeating him they give you the trophy The King Is Dead .
14) Tangaant: giant scorpion.
15) Sieragz: A huge locust that releases a swarm of small flying locusts (Emmlid) as an attack. It will be according to the plot, it can also be found later in the White Canyon.
16) Emmlid: small locusts produced by Sieragz. They hang in the air for some time, after which they attack the main character and disappear.
17) Hiveen: The huge boss bug is killed in 3 stages. You can also pick up his DNA without unnecessary hassle in the scientific laboratory in a secret room in which there will be one item for the memory quest/trophy and one item for the trophy for collecting journals. In the room there will be a terminal with a green button; after activating it, the DNA will be added to the log.

If you accidentally, or during the battle, forgot to collect the DNA of the Gorevorgg crab, then simply return to the same location after the battle. Use the cat to get to the top of the platform and you will find a large claw. We tag it - and here it is happiness!

In total, the bestiary needs to collect DNA from 17 species of locusts.

Don’t forget to collect the DNA of the small infection Ermmlid flying out of the nests on Seragzh’s head; you will meet the rest of the locusts more than once during the game and identify them without problems.

1) If for some reason the DNA of TAngaant (Scorpio with acid) was not identified, do not worry. After the task to collect information or data, I don’t remember how on SHACKLETON PEAK and take it to Dr. ROMEN, this mob appears in the FUEL STORAGE in the flesh before meeting Gale, when you ask him to join you.

2) Again, where is SHACKLETON PEAK. First you go to where your car is hitched to the elevator. Then go out and go up the stairs. From there, go through the gorge as you go through the story for the first time. There will be 2 individuals there at once, namely: Suwankaa and Gonro (kill two birds with one stone)
