How to unlock the Solo Slugger achievement in Magic Duels - Definitive Guide

Below is a White/Red Aggro deck that I have built, and have had very good results when farming hard AI for gold. Played correctly, and with a good starting draw, this deck can easily net you a win by turn 5 or 6.
Plus, it is built entirely of cards from the starter pack, so you can use this right away if you are just starting out. I will incude some replacements, which you can use at your discretion as your card collection expands.
The basic idea is to lay out low cost creatures very quickly, and buff them with aura/enchantments to dish out quick and heavy damage before your opponent can play their higher cost cards. While an early win is possible, this deck does very well going into the late game.
Once you learn the deck, you will be well on your way to fast, easy wins.

The Deck:
3x Elite Vanguard - 2/1 for 1 mana? Yes, please!
4x Suntail Hawk - 1/1 with flying for 1 mana. Early attack/defense
4x Kinsbaile Skirmisher - Cheap 2 mana, and buffs your other creatures.
4x Nimbus Wings - Only 2 mana for flying and +1/2. Formidable early damage.
4x Inferno Fist - Can buff damage +2 OR deal 2 damage instantly.
2x Reprisal - To take out any 4+ power beaters that your opponent might have.
4x Twinbolt - Instant 2 damage to 1 OR 1 damage to 2 targets. Take out early defense.
3x Skyhunter Skirmisher - Cheap 1/1 flyer with double strike. Great when buffed.
4x Heliod's Pilgrim - Cheap 1/2 defender. Let's you draw an aura/enchantment. Nice!
3x Flaring Flame-Kin - This early with Nimbus and Inferno Fist will SMASH your enemies!
3x Juggernaut - Most expensive card at 4 mana. 5/3 that HAS to attack. Pressure up!
12x Plains
8x Mountains
2x Clifftop Retreat

Possible Replacements
Replace your small creatures(Elite Vanguard, Suntail Hawk, Kinsbaile Skirmisher) with better ones:
Anointer of Champions
Topan Freeblade - 2 mana 2/2 with vigilence and renown. Great early attack/defender.
Consul's Lieutenant - 2/2 for 2 mana with first strike, renown, and +1/+1 buff ability.
Iroa's Champion - 2/2 with double-strike for 3 mana. Powerful when buffed.

Perilous Myr and Goblin Arsonist are great replacements for the Suntail Hawk. Equal damage and toughness as the Suntail Hawk, but can deal 1, or 2 damage respectively, directly to an target creature or opponent upon upon death. Excellent for killing off those early enemy blockers, or dealing those last few points of damage to your opponents face to win the round. Always an annoyance for the enemy, those two.

Possible replacements for Juggernaut:
Kytheon's Irregulars - 4/3 for 4 mana with renown, and tap creature ability.
Archangel of Tithes - 4 mana 3/5 flyer that makes opponent pay mana to attack/block.
Patron of the Valiant - 4 mana 4/4 with flying, buffs already buffed creatures.

I really like Archangel of Tithes. It can leave an opponent severely damaged, or dead, if they spent all their mana during their turn and have none left over to pay for blockers.
Just that tiny bit of control over the battlefield can be the different between victory and defeat.

Thank you. This is the best, easiest to build deck! Great for anyone starting out, and easy to improve upon with unlocked cards.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks for sharing this deck, when someone is new to magic it is difficult to create a deck that is both fast and good against the AI that solely depends on starter pack cards.

For anyone who doesn't already know this, the game hub leaderboards are still inaccurate after the Innistrad update. I got my achievement at around 520/500.

This achievement popped for me with the endgame counter had me at 561 solo wins. I was starting to wonder if it would ever happen. Funny thing is it unlocked after I lost a solo game.

I am using this with the only difference of using Topan Freeblade in place of Elite Vanguard. Then when I unlocked it, I dropped in Angelic Destiny for one of the Nimbus Wings. I'm easily winning 80% or more. Put the Angelic Destiny on Flaring Flame-kin, Skyhunter Skirmisher or Topan Freeblade and it's smooth sailing.

I was at 497 solo matches, won 2 more matches, then I was at 501 with no achievement. I won another match which I restarted 2 times due to bad land draw, and I was at 507 after, still no achievement. As always, Xbox and their games are bugged, it is a shame, nasty stinky greedy people behind those game.

Now that all the cards have been gifted I was wondering if anyone could add any further improvements to this deck?

I'm fairly sure that, if you decide to play out a match after your opponent in Versus has conceded and you beat the AI, it counts as a solo win. (I hope that it also still counts as a Versus win, but I don't know).

I say this only because the achievement for winning 100 Solo Battles popped for me when I finished out a match against the AI after my Versus opponent quit.

In short, if you're playing Versus and your opponent quits, keep playing against the AI, as it may add to your Solo wins total.

This isn't so much a solution, but an addition. The achievement pops after the match is over and saved. As of the Eldritch moon update, they still haven't fixed the in game tracker for the solo wins. Sadly this goes up every time you restart a duel. But since the match isnt completed, the win counter goes up, but you only get one win when it's saved and you finish tge match. You could have restarted the match 4 times, and it would show 4 more wins, but only save and count the one actual win. So if you are losing, just concede, or let the AI beat you. Hopefully they fix this soon.

Yes, thank you for this. This helps explain why I didn't get the achievement for 100 solo wins until I was at nearly 140 of them. No more restarting for me, I guess.

This is good info. This explains why i had to play almost 700 games in order to get the 500 wins achievement

What counter? Also I just got the 10 win achievement after a loss, so this game has issues.

I assume they are talking about the counter you can see under Magic Duels’ Game Hub -> Progress -> Stats. I’m 600 Wins based on that and still on cheevo. Just chipping away day by day...

I never trust those things. They are screwed up on more than a couple of games for me.

Finally earned this. It "only" took 671 solo wins, per the progress tracker...

I just hit 500 and only restarted a handful of times so we'll see if restarting is the real issue or if there's an issue with how the games saves.

Popped after 522, oddly enough it also only popped after a loss.

Sure enough this still has not been fixed as of 3/15/2017. The counter was at 500, but I didn't realize it had been counting restarted games as wins. So now that I know that I'm not restarting anymore, but also have no way of knowing how far along I am. Up until I found this post I was convinced the Achievement was broken, so thank you! Please fix this counter! I'd also love a way to see how many daily quests I've completed, maybe that will be in a future update. Here's hoping...

In Battle Mode, choose Solo Battle and win 500 of them. You will be award with 5,10 or 15 coins for winning in easy, medium and hard respectively. The "AI deck" you battle changes every battle and on hard difficulty there are challenging and/or tricky decks that are not very difficult to beat, but can be tedious. Stick to Easy or Medium if you want to tackle them ASAP.

There isn't any type of achievement tracker in this game. A simple but tedious and boring way to know how much games have left is to annotate your wins in a piece of paper... or just to play and wait for it to pop.

Note: Don't use Xbox Smartglass app to track the number of wins.
