How to unlock the The Roil achievement in Magic Duels - Definitive Guide

In order to have a fair chance at unlocking this, you will need to unlock 'Nissa, Vastwood Seer'. She is one of the 5 mythic rare Planeswalkers you can obtain in Origins.

She has an ability that will turn 6 separate lands into 6/6 creatures, but you will need to use her -7 to do so. That is more than enough power to overrun most decks and get to 12 damage.
You will need time to activate her +1 at least 4-5 times, and that's if you're able to defend your Planeswalker enough whilst doing so. Best of luck while going for this achievement! It's not very difficult, just requires a bit of luck and proper strategy...

I'm sure there are other methods of doing this, but I found this way to be the easiest. I actually got it in a multiplayer match, for what it's worth. If you find other ways to obtain this achievement, leave a comment below! I'd be happy to edit this solution if it's going to be more helpful. Thanks for reading.

I just add my few thoughts to this, which may hopefully help, too:
I'd recommend using a deck with green and black cards, because your opponent will usually try to bring your planeswalker card down early.
But if you use black creatures/spells you can bring her back from your graveyard, which is increasing your chance of actually getting this achievement without trying again in another duel.
Also note that the achievement does unlock right during the duel (you don't have to wait until the game is over).
The 12 damage in one turn can be done to the opponent's creatures, so it is not necessary that the "lands" attack the opponent directly.

I got this achievement by dealing 12 damage in one turn, including only 4 from a Land I had stolen (using Willbreaker, if that matters). I don't know if it was a bug or a loophole or what, but just thought I'd mention it.

Had to deal 12 damage to the enemy player. It did not work with enemy creatures.

Most easily done in a solo duel on easy.

1) Acquire Nissa, Vastwood Seer from an Origins booster pack.

2) Get her onto the battlefield and transform her into Nissa, Sage Animist.

3) Use her +1 ability four times to build her devotion to 7.

4) Use her -7 ability to turn up to six lands into 6/6 creatures, then attack with them.

5) Enjoy your 20 gamerscore.

While using Nissa is probably the easiest method if you can pull it off, there is now an alternative.

The Battle for Zendikar expansion added a new mechanic: Awaken. This allows you to transform any land into a creature and attack with it. All you need to do is unlock one of the many cards that feature this new ability and use it in a duel.

These awakened lands are typically 3/3 creatures so you'll need to have four of them out to pop the achievement.

It also appears to be quite buggy at the moment - dealing any damage with land creatures seems to be enough to unlock it.

I've submitted a buggy+ flag request to the Game Info team. Had the same thing happen, unlocked with a single 3/3 awoken land.

Unlocked this achievement with a single awakened land, which I took from an opponent with Traitorous Instinct.

I believe that the best way to get this achievement is to play a green/black deck with elves INCLUDING NISSA VASTWOOD SEER. Black is added for removal spells like murder and a few critters with deathtouch. Play solo so on easy, use the elves to build up blockers and do not attack unless you know you can deal damage without losing a creature and knowing you still have good defense. an ideal hand will have at least four lands in your hand with nissa vastwood in it also. once you get it out protect it and play its +1 ability to look at top card each turn until you get enough counters on it to make 6 lands 6/6 creatures. More than likely you will control the board by this point. Keep their stuff at bay and when you know you can get at least 4 creatures through attack with everything and it should pop.

First, cast "Nissa, Vastwood Seer". After that, to transform her into "Nissa, Sage Animist" you only need to put a land on the field once you have at least 7 lands active. Once you have "Nissa, Sage Animist" you need at least 5 turns to get the achievement. Four turns using Nissa's first ability (+1 loyalty counters each turn). On your fifth turn use Nissa's third ability (-7 loyalty counters) to make six lands 6/6 creature cards. Attack with them and if you manage to do at least 12 damage in this turn you'll get the achievement.

It's not necesary to do direct damage. Damage dealt to other creatures by this lands counts towards the achievement.

Best way to do this is on a Versus match against the AI in easy difficulty.

Note: First, you need to unlock Nissa by buying booster packs.
