How to unlock the Saver achievement in Merge & Blade - Definitive Guide
This isn't really a guide, but rather a collection of tips that helped me to clear the campaign.
There are 23 stages to clear, consisting of 20 chapters and three defence missions.
I didn't have any trouble with the campaign until I reached Chapter 14, at this point, I hit a bit of a wall that required some upgrading of the endgame units before I could continue. After finally beating Chapter 14, I was able to breeze through everything else up until Chapter 20.
I was able to beat everything except Chapter 20 without using the General, so don't worry too much if you are unable to create this unit in the previous stages.
Below I will outline some tips and tricks that helped me out:
In terms of deciding what to upgrade next, focus on upgrading the unit you are currently using the most, it's rather pointless to upgrade something you either aren't using often or are unable to reliably merge into.
Hopefully, this helps with completing the campaign. If anyone has any other tips they would like to share, I'd be happy to add them to this guide.

Below I will outline some tips and tricks that helped me out:
- The most difficult units to beat, besides the boss enemies, are the Shield Orks. These guys have really high health and can dish out a ton of damage. Once you start encountering these units, you will need to be able to bring Alchemists and Wizards to the battle to effectively take them out. The Shield Orks will quickly tear through your army without either of these units.
- Merge the most powerful unit you can as soon as possible (Unless that unit is the Priest), this will allow you to start getting the previous most powerful unit in the regular rotation, which makes getting your current powerful unit even easier. For instance, once you create the General, you will start getting Wizards appearing, this makes getting additional Generals easier and allows you to bring multiple Wizards into the fight with little trouble. This is a must for beating Chapter 20 and the 20 waves of Defence.
- Generals shouldn't really be used on the front line, instead, you should surround them with Wizards and Alchemists so that those units can benefit from the General's Haste ability. This significantly speeds up your Unit's attack speed and will output far more DPS than the General alone is capable of. This will also protect them from taking damage from most sources, whilst also allowing you to boost the effectiveness of your other less valuable Units.
- Aim to get matches of four or more units whenever possible, this will provide you with extra turns and enable you to summon even more units.
- Sometimes, the best thing to do is not to combine. Knowing when not to combine your units is a useful strategy to learn as there are occasions where having more units is better than having a single powerful unit. For instance, sometimes it is better to have three Barbarians rather than a single Alchemist. Especially if your frontline is currently lacking units.
- Be wary of combining multiple Archers into Priests. Priests may be powerful healers, but they have zero fighting capability. Make sure you don't end up with more Priests than you need, as this could mean the end of your current Chapter.
- Defence missions have no minimum stage requirement to complete them, as such, you can purposely fail them if you wish to continue on with the campaign quicker.
- Try to avoid overspending on unit upgrades as you will need a considerable amount of Gold to Upgrade the Boot Camp to Level 5 for The Most Powerful Squad achievement.

Whew wee finally done chapter 14 just now - previously my tactic was to have 25 units on the board as often as possible so often I’d go round 3 to 9 without loss , which gained me 1300 gold each round slamming new units into the top row but then got stuck with weaker units that would ALL get wiped on round 10. This time I went for maximum swaps constantly and ended up with wizards by round 6, which was crazy, and then a general in time for round 10… really was a breeze then just making sure I kept barbarians handy on 2nd and 4th row on first column to hit the ork hard
