How to unlock the Weaponsmith achievement in Metro 2033 - Definitive Guide

I got this achievement in the level after Pollis, where I got the last weapon needed: Kalash 2012. To ensure you get this early, always take a gun you never used from the ground and use it at least once to kill something. You can find the Helsing (rare to find) at the Front Line level on some sandbags (after you climb up from an abandoned area) and you can find a Tihar in many levels. If you use a weapon at least once you are good to get this achievement, but you will also need to buy some weapons.
Note: If you are using another weapon for the other kill achievements, you can leave it on the floor to kill something with a different weapon then get your important weapon back.

Here is a list of the weapons required with locations for the standard versions:

Weaponsmith Achievement Weapons List

Kit Items
1) Grenade:
Can be looted from almost any dead human enemy or bought in most shops for 15 Military-Grade rounds.

2) Sticky grenade:
* Can be found in weapon caches or bought in most shops for 20 Military-Grade Rounds.
* Not as common in the metro as their nailless counterpart, the regular grenade.

3) Knife
The standard Knife is an unobtainable weapon in Metro 2033, because Artyom uses his own Knife.

4) Throwing Knives
Throwing Knives can be bought in every Metro Station-City that has a Weapons Merchant but because of their reusability that should never be necessary; they can be often found lying around in or around any place where hostile humans are present.

Sidearms

1) Revolver - where to find the standard version:
* Hunter Mission - Free from the red box on the wall when the alarm activates.
* Everywhere else - Found near dead bodies and in holsters of killed enemies.

Pneumatic Weapons

1) Tihar - where to find the standard version (cannot be bought):
1. Can be found in the level Lost Tunnels, when walking with Bourbon through the tunnels, there is a path going left and there you find two Lurkers eating on a body, near the body, a Tihar can be found.
2. Can be found in the level Dead City 1, in the building with the broken elavator. Fall down the elavator into the room. You'll find a stalker with an unscoped Tihar laying next to him.
3. Can be found in the level Dead City 2, in a dumpster to your right, after meeting up with Bourbon (a use-symbol appears when you look at the lid of the dumpster.).
4. Can be found in a broken railcart in the mission Frontline, and in many other places, usually sticking out.

2) Helsing - where to find the standard version (cannot be bought):
* First one can be found at the near the end of Dead City part 1. Go past the body the demon was feeding on - preferably after dealing with the beast - and head down the stairs and over the wall on the right, and towards a body. Now turn around and walk up the iron bar which comes up to the second level near the bus. Turn around again and jump onto the ledge, there will be a room with a body in it, near it is a Hellsing and several Arrows. Be careful - this area, especially the entrance, is highly radioactive, and you will lose health rapidly and die if you get disorientated in here. It's recommended to pick this one, as it will help greatly with stealth in Dry and commie part of Frontline.
* Another can be found in a room guarded by Nazi soldiers in Frontline, right in front of you as you come up the ladder from the canals after going through the secret passage.
* One in Defense level, in the secret cache with two safes(where you get a Moral Point), near a body.
* In Black Station inside the train after crossing the first bridge and going down the stairs. It is on the seat at one end with a smattering of ammunition, and at the other end is a target with a couple more arrows.

Electric Weaponry
1) Volt driver (new weapon from the DLC) - where to find:
* Lost Tunnels – appears on the bag with the ammunition.
* Armory – appears on the bed with the heavy automatic shotgun.
* Sparta Base – appears on a the pile of boxes to the left of the weapon rack.

Shotguns

1) Duplet (double-barreled shotgun) - where to find:
* Can be found for free in Chase. It's automatically given to the player by Eugine after the quick-time event.
* Other than that it can be found almost everywhere on dead bodies or in stashes even late in the game.

2) Automatic Shotgun (Uboyneg) - where to find:
1. Can be picked up free, from most dead human enemies.
2. Shops - 120 MGR.
3. You can also salvage one from Bourbon's back pack when he leaves it in the Dry (Level) Station's air vent along with extra ammo for it.

3) Heavy Auto Shotgun (new weapon from the DLC) - where to find:
* The first one appears in Armory. After Artyom is forced to flee the Communist Secret Police, and is saved by Andrew the Smith, you will find the weapon, along with a few packs of shotgun shells, waiting for you on the bed, a gift from the smith.
* The second one will appear in Sparta, with the other weapons obtained by Vladimir. If you want it, grab it. Otherwise, enjoy the free shotgun shells.

Assault Rifles & SMGs
1) Kalash - where to find the simple version:
* Can be bought in Armory.
* Can be found for free, first time in Dry. After Bourbon gets captured , turn around 180 degrees and at the end of the tunnel you'll find your promised AK.
2) Kalash 2012 - where to find it:
* You can get it free in Pollis (for sale)
* Available for free at Sparta.
* A number are found on the way to and in D6.
o 2 Are found during "Cave", both near the bodies of tunnel/D6 workers.
o Found in a box inside a small train before the computer control room.
o Found in the lobby of the computer control room by some crates.
o Found inside the computer control room on a shelving unit on the right-hand side of the room.
o Found in a box on a small train before and after the Ameboa pores.
o Found in Biomass on a shelving unit along with a VSV near the ladder (Needs screen-shot conformation)
o Found in ammo box when picking up the 'gift'.

3) VSV - where to find the standard version:
1. Shops - 230 MGR.
2. Ulman will give you one when arriving at Black Station.
3. Another can be found on top of a train car in the Black Station
4. One is used by a Nazi in the final area you fight them in black station.
5. Found in the level Biomass, in D6. Not at the first set of shelves - as you move round towards the ladder to the control room check behind the pillars for the second set of shelves.

4) Bastard - where to find the standard version:
1. Exhibition - Free from Armory.
2. Humans - Free.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Variations and Turret guns do not count towards this achievement. So if you killed something with, say, a standard revolver, you do not need to use a revolver with a scope to get the achievement.

This is the Kalash 2012 weapon, so no it is not a AK47 with a scope: http://metro2033.wikia.com/wiki/Kalash_2012

And it only exists in-game, :)

If you'd add the first location where you can find all the weapons this solution would be AAA+!

@MastaGus As requested, gathered all the information to improve the guide. Also changed the name for the automatic shotgun, as "heavy shotgun" was not the accurate name.

From what I could find in xbox360achievements,org, it was confirmed that you need to this in a single playthrough. Annoying, I know, but I recommend playing in ranger mode as it makes the game much more interesting and fun - even if you glitch those difficulty achievements (btw, i had to play it many times to get 100% hehe).

when does this pop? i have used everything except a mounted flame thrower.
i used the kalash 2012 on the very first level (prologue) does that count or not?

By Dropkick Hope86 on 28 Mar 2011 22:17
@dropkick Hope86: the prologue does NOT count. The achievement pops after you get your first kill with your last weapon. You do not need the flamethrower but use it anyways.

So I missed taking the Volt and Auto both times. So after I finish this game (at Outpost before I realized I screwed up) could I just load up my Armory save grab shotty, kill through sparta, grab volt, I should get the achievement as long as ive used everything else correct? and all my weapons I used prior will still have counted up to Armory correct?

All your progress is saved for every chapter, including your gear, so I assume the game will consider the guns you used before. I have not tested that, but this reasoning makes sense.

Well it worked, made the run from Armory to Sparta, got the achievement at the part you needed to use the flamethrower after using the heavy shotty and the ak 2012, and with that 100% complete :)

Okay so I must have missed a knife kill (I thought I had one - maybe an NPC finished off the enemy). Since this is my next to last achievement, it definitely has to be done in one playthrough, i.e. no skipping levels from wherever you start.

As you can see at the end of the guide:

Additional Notes: You must get this achievement in one playthrough. You cannot just reload chapters to get it. Also, the Prologue kills do not count.

Good luck! I do not even own the game anymore, but I hope this guide helps you!

So I beat the game, and I restarted from Armory, grabbed the Tihar, used it for the (Pneumatic Weapons kills), and while killing all enemies in Frontline (for the cheevo), found and used both the auto shotty and the Helsing, my question is, does all the weapon kills I have PRIOR to Armory count? (Knife, Bastard, Volt, Kalash, and the Duplet)

Hi. I don't even own an xbox 360 anymore or even visit trueachievements, but I got an email about your comments and I don't mind helping you. From what I remember, kills you got before that point in the game count, as they are saved along with the state you were when you began the chapter.

Good luck!

Despite every guide saying this must be done in a single playthrough, I got this on my 2nd playthrough after getting kills with the weapons I missed (Helsing and Kalash 2012) but didn't get a kill with every weapon. I definitely never even picked up a Volt Driver this time around, so I'm baffled

It has to be made in one playthr. You cant chapter select. I did the kills and hit a checkpoint and continued with the next and it didnt pop.
-If u start a run only for this achievement u will get it in chapter 5 Polis when u can buy kalash 2012 for the first time. You dont have to delete the save.

For me, and probably for most people, the Kalash 2012 was the last weapon I needed. I just wanted to add that the earliest you can get this weapon is actually at the merchant in Polis. Also, you can start up from a previous chapter and play through until you've used all of the weapons. So, if you've already beat the game but missed this achievement somehow you can start on Lost Tunnels (to get the Volt Driver) and be done by Alley, or start on Armory (where you have to choose between the Volt Driver and Heavy Shotgun) and play until Driving to Sparta.

For me, this needed to be done in one playthrough. It also didn't require flamethrower kills.

I followed the site walkthrough for my first playthrough and didn't get this achievement after killing with the Kalashnikov 2012, so I must have missed one of the other weapons. I also missed the exploration achievement so I knew I needed a 2nd playthrough.

In my 2nd playthrough, I made a list of all the weapons and used this solution to figure out when and how to get them all. I got kills with everything except the Heavy Auto Shotgun, which I got from Vladimir in Sparta. The next section is the flamethrower part, and I killed an enemy with the Heavy Auto Shotgun (rather than using the flamethrower) and the achievement popped immediately.

I had used the Heavy Auto Shotgun extensively in my first playthrough, so if the achievement overlapped playthroughs, it shouldn't have popped for me after a Heavy Auto Shotgun kill.

While the other guides are fantastic for detailing where each weapon is found, after 2 playthroughs I found myself having missed something along the way. I found this walkthrough that helped me. You have to do it all in one playthrough and you can't skip levels.

http://metro2033.wikia.com/wiki/Weaponsmith

Start at Armory and work your way to D6. One thing I noticed is that I had a hard time finding a Duplet in Frontline, so I waited until later.

This should be obvious, but I'll say it anyway... make sure that you have the DLC downloaded before you start. I bought the DLC but didn't have it downloaded on my main console at first, so my early kills didn't count.

As far as I can see you are the only one pointing that out, so I'll just ask you:
I had a game started already, THEN downloaded the DLC and kept playing my previous playthrough. Do I have to start a new playthrough in order to get any of the DLC achievements? Cause I think I should have 25 secondary Volt Drive kills by now.

Yikes, missed the earlier question. Pretty sure you have to have the DLC loaded BEFORE you start the game or you can't get it, but I'm not 100% sure.

I followed the guides here and the last gun was supposed to be the Kalash 2012. It didn't unlock the achievement when I got my first kill with it. It meant that I was missing a kill with a weapon, even though I had been checking them off as I got kills.

I continued playing till Sparta changing guns as I saw them but what unlocked it was a knife kill, which was one of the first kills I got. In fact I think my knife kills were in the room where you first meet Hunter.

Im not sure why the knife kills didn't count when I originally did them. Im wondering if the kills you get during that first encounter with Hunter do not count for some reason.

The list of weapons is as follows:

  • Trench Knife: Starting weapon.
  • Throwing Knife: Can be found on Bourbon's gear in Dry Station, and most humanoids thereafter.
  • Revolver: Starting weapon. Dropped by most humans in the game.
  • Bastard: Starting weapon. Frequently dropped by enemies in the early portion of the game, and occasionally later on.
  • Duplet: Given to you while on the cart during The Chase. These are more frequently found on random corpses, than on enemies that you kill.
  • Kalash: Found at the end of the tunnel behind you at the start of Dry Station. Mid to late game humans carry them as well.
  • Kalash 2012: Can be acquired from Polis, Sparta or D6. These are not carried by enemies.
  • Helsing: Can be acquired at Dead City 1, Front Line, Defense and Outpost. Relatively hidden in each location, so keep your eyes peeled.
  • VSV: Can be purchased in the Armory. Can also be acquired at Black Station from Ulman, as well as a couple of locations later in the station. Also found in Sparta, and D6. These are very rarely carried by late game humans.
  • Tihar: Can be acquired from Lost Tunnels (head down the left tunnel near the start of the area to find it near a corpse), as well as Frontline.
  • Volt Driver: Can be acquired at the bandit station in Lost Tunnels (near the campfire), Armory Station (after the chase sequence, you can only take this or the heavy auto shotgun), or Sparta on the weapons rack.
  • Automatic Shotgun: Among the gear that Bourbon leaves behind at the beginning of Dry Station. Commonly carried by late game humans.
  • Heavy Automatic Shotgun: Can be acquired from Armory Station (on the bed after the chase sequence) or Sparta (weapons rack).
  • Grenade: Can be acquired from various human enemies, loot, merchants, etc.
  • Sticky Grenade: Can be acquired from various human enemies, loot, merchants, etc.

As you progress through the game to the level of the Battle on Railcars, you can kill with all types of weapons except the Kalash 2012, you can kill with it only if you buy it in the policy and at the alley level, after destroying the monsters, the achievement opens

The knife is a melee weapon available from the very beginning of the game.
Throwing knife is a throwing melee weapon that quickly and silently kills an enemy upon impact and can be reused. Appears after meeting with Bourbon, sold in all stores. You can carry no more than 5 knives with you.
The revolver is the main and most common weapon; the player has it from the very beginning of the game. There is a version with an extended barrel that has more power.
Revolver with a silencer - found in stores or in the mission "Front Line", has less power, but allows you to shoot silently and relatively unnoticed.
A revolver with a butt is a long-barreled revolver equipped with a butt that has great accuracy. There is an option with optics and a silencer.

“Bastard” is a low-power homemade machine gun, given to Artyom at the armory at VDNKh. It has a long reload time and low power, 30 rounds per clip, there is also a version with a silencer.
The AK-74 is a more convenient assault rifle, has fast reloading and average power, 30 rounds in the magazine. Has an option with a 1.5x optical sight.
VSV (VSK-94) is a more powerful silent assault rifle with a laser sight, the magazine is designed to hold 20 rounds. There is a version with good optics.
“AK-2012” is the most powerful and most convenient machine gun, has a laser sight, a magazine for 40 rounds, and reloads quickly. There is an option with optics, available in armories.
Doublet is a medium-power handicraft double-barreled shotgun that requires constant reloading.
"Tikhar" is an air rifle that requires pumping up the cylinders to increase shooting efficiency. There is a version with optics. When firing, the power and firing range drops, so you need to constantly pump up the cylinder.
“Uboynik” is a 6-round semi-automatic shotgun, has a good rate and power of fire, and reloads slowly. Found in the “Sukharevskaya” chapter or in stores, it is reloaded using the revolver principle - cartridges are sorted into six compartments-slots; It is possible to load only up to 5 rounds from an empty clip. Also has a bayonet variant, with more power and damage.
The Helsing crossbow needle shooter is a multi-barreled pneumatic gun that shoots unfeathered steel arrows that can be reused by picking them up from the point of impact. Found in the chapters “Front Line” and “Black Station”; a version with optics is sold on Kuznetsky Most. The idea is taken from the movie Van Helsing.
Automatic shotgun is a powerful automatic shotgun found in the chapters “Kuznetsky Bridge” and “To Sparta”, which requires a long reload of 20 rounds, but has the highest rate of fire. With the release of the official DLC, the Ranger Pack is available for purchase from merchants.
The Volt Driver is Melnik's weapon, a homemade gun found in the chapters "Kuznetsky Bridge" and "To Sparta". Fires a powerful electrical charge that kills medium enemies in one shot, but consumes the electrical charge. Has an electrified strike with the butt, which also consumes a charge. With the release of the official DLC, the Ranger Pack is available for purchase from merchants.
Dynamite is an explosive in the form of a stick of dynamite made from a piece of pipe. Used as a grenade.
Dynamite Hedgehog is an improved stick of dynamite with nails sticking out. Has the ability to cling to a wall or to an enemy, causing more damage due to flying nails.

Revolver and Revolver with a silencer and Revolver with a butt - these are all one weapon Revolver .

1. VIDEO (the quality is not very good, but with a good commentary)
2. VIDEO (lengthy, and extra revolvers)
3. VIDEO (the best thing I liked, but in my opinion, the Machine Gun and Flamethrower are superfluous)
