How to unlock the Test Сomplete achievement in Metro Last Light - Definitive Guide

The (rubbish) Tower DLC is simply a horde mode for Metro. It's unnecessary, has very little production value, and is not only not fun, but utterly frustrating and borderline unfair.

That said, whilst it initially seems impossible to complete, it's not as bad as it first seems. There are five seperate "levels", each accessed from the holographic room. I'll go through them one-by-one:

Oh, and do this on Easy difficulty. If you started a campaign on Ranger, either complete it, or just choose another save device when loading up the game (Cloud Saves, or a USB).

1) Tutorial room - Humans
Very possibly the hardest and most infuriating room...! The game gives you no clues or help, and throws you in to this. At the start the enemies come in solely from one entrance, so put some claymores outside it for some easy kills. Now, camp on the raised gantry overlooking it, and pick off the soldiers as fast as possible, whilst consuming as few bullets as possible. I camped on the right, and enemies did get behind me on the lower platform, but I managed to hold them off, and keep the door on the opposite side to me shut despite multipe enemies starting to open it.

Make sure no enemies start hitting the yellow light-switch panels, as this opens a new door for enemies to spawn at. There's one right outside the initial enemy spawn which they opened on my run, but other than that I kept them all shut. If you hear the warning siren, find which door is being opened and try to kill the soldier before he does it, as they cannot be closed. Also, if you're low on ammo, I believe there is some on the ground level - the game never told me this, nor about the enemy doors, so I struggled through this level through perseverence and luck.

2) Nosalises
If you want the other achievement with this DLC, choose the option on the right, the hardest mode. Otherwise, always take the easiest difficulty available on the left. Here, basically run around the level in a loop. Do not stop. If you get hit a lot use a medpack. Keep running. Eventually the waves will end you'll win. The far right option simply has more waves, but the tactic remains the same.

3) Nosalises
Waves 3 and 4 may interchange. If this is humans, see the Wave 4 info. If it's nosalises, repeat the tactic from earlier. The nosalises which spit at you get annoying, but they don't seem to hurt or slow you down at all. Eventually they'll despawn and you win the level.

4) Humans
The second, and final humans room. They seem to surround you in an instant, and it seems impossible to hold them off. However, there's a decent spot on the upper floor that you can hold, with a bit of practice. Take the Hellsing, the AK-2000, and any other gun of your choice (I took the Shambler, but if you do well you won't need a shotgun).

You want to go to the second floor, to a section with an ammo-refill point for 40 bullets, and a health point I believe near it. From here, you overlook the only paths up to this floor - two staircases leading to the centre platform, and two more staircases leading from this up to the platform you are on. You MUST keep the enemies from activating the doors on this upper platform. Some claymores right at the top of the stairs are a good idea. Keep the Hellsing pumped, and with a little practice you'll be able to keep the soldiers from getting close. Between waves, there's three free ammo refills on the centre platform.

Remember, you don't need to kill every enemy. If they sit miles back and don't bother climbing the stairs, ignore them. Eventually the timer will run out and the next wave will begin. Persist with this level, and you'll get through it.

5) Unknown (Nosalises)
Same as normal, run around in circles. If you want you can plant claymores as you run, or throw grenades. But it won't matter. Eventually you'll defeat the level, and complete the DLC, never to play it again.

I want to say that I hate this DLC with every fiber of my being, but thank you for posting a guide! I'll do my best to follow it correctly and pop it.

I was unable to select the guns from description. For the 4th level i used Kalash 2012, Shambler and Preved-the sniper wich is one-shot anywhere. Very effective. The level ends when u kill them all, so camp upstairs and kill from distance. I passed the wave on my 2nd time without expectations.

This is unlocked by completing the final mission of the Tower Pack.

This mission is very hard as there are tonnes of enemies.

The weapons I chose for this mission were the Kalash 2012, Automatic Shotgun (Uboinik) and the Preved. I really only used the Uboinik and minigun as they are the most powerful. I swapped the Kalash for the Uboinik at the beginning as automatics arent very good at taking down nosalis.

My tips are to plant claymores everywhere and use all of your grenades to your advantage. Bunch them up and throw. I did this for the first two rounds and part of the third. If you run out of grenades mid round start using your weapons. On the third I used grenades and claymores until the librarians spawned. I then bought both sets of reinforcements. I defended those as well as I could with the minigun and then backed into the corner with all of those claymores when they died. I threw all of my grenades which took out a fair few of the nosalis and librarians. The rest were taken care of by the minigun.

Try to use all of your grenades and claymores before restocking your ammo otherwise it is a waste. You have 3 ammo pickups before it disappears and requires you to pay for another 3.

I also tried to throw my sticky and normal grenades at the gates thus killing the enemies attempting to break through. This is very useful because you stop yourself from being overwhelmed with enemies.

Thanks a lot for your tips, and if it can help others, i noticed that the end the mission is time-based and not necessarily needs to kill all enemies. So when my reinforcements died and all the claymores exploded, I simply turned around the room and regained health when it was needed.

I didn't get to choose the Uboinik. Thinking you only get it if you do the HUGE mission first. But, the trick to completing this (for me) is to keep your reinforcements ALIVE (both sets). Plant claymores near the spawn points and around the reinforcements. Also remember, down on the D-Pad to heal yourself (I didn't even realize you could do this until I got to this final level).

Damn, I seriously need help with the pre-last human level, buying teammates makes it so much easier, but once they die, they are gone, unable to buy again, and I can´t imagine the difficulty of the last level...

Also, what is the difference between normal, high and highest levels? I know that the highest actually haves 2 more waves then normal (atleast in the first nosalis level) but that is all I know....

I have a 'dumb' question, is there a way to save your progres between 'maps/levels' or you have to do them all in one sitting?

To answer my ownquestion, YES you do have to do all 5 'challenges/maps' on one sitting as there is no way to save your progress between the maps.

uh..... yeah it auto saves your progress after successfully completing all the waves in a mission and return to the weapon room for your ranking and restock.... you cant start playing another DLC pack or the campaign as this will overwrite your auto save but you can most definitely quit out between missions (not between waves though)

so NO you do not have to do them in one sitting unless u overwrite the autosave with something else so there IS a way to save between maps because the game does it for you...........................

O.K. so this might be embarrassing, but the running around trick worked fine in the huge mission, unlocking the Willpower achievement, but I can't make it work in the regular nosalis levels due to the bat-wing sonic screamer beasties stopping my sprinting. Am I just doing something fundamentally dumb?

Little confused on this one, are there only 4 "rooms" that you need to beat?

1-"Training/2 waves of humans
2-Nosalises, rating: Normal
3-Nosalises, Horde, Rating: High
4-Nosalises, Huge Zone, Rating: Highest

So far I only did the 1st one, 2 waves of humans, and the last one for the Willpower achievement, so do I just have to beat the other 2 and that's it?

Doesn't seem very hard

Okay, dumb question since I'm sure someone has tried this...

Does the Redux trick work on this? In Redux when the timer starts, you can hold down LB down while spamming X, and the mission ends. I finished all the missions in about 10 min on both Redux games. Wondering if it works on 360 too...?

Otherwise great guide. +1.

I literally had no problem killing my way through the first four. On the final, all I did was run around in circles around the outside edge. I maybe got hit three or four times total and never killed a single enemy on waves 2 or 3. I just let time expire lol. It's kind of stupid.

Damn! The last wave of the 5th mission can be a b*tch! Did it on my 5th attempt, weapons are irrelevant, although I did take the Saiga just to potshot them a few times.

Seems the tactics here are sound - except I would emphasize 'thinning them out' a bit more, if there are too many enemies you will just get hit too much and can't run or heal. Grenades and claymores at the fences are essential, do not allow them to break through at all in waves 1 and 2. Also when you're running around on wave 3, thin them out with the occasional grenade by quickly turning around and throwing it straight down.

I was nearing the end of the wave when I hit the reinforcements, and defended them a bit with my Saiga and grenades. Then I was going to hit the other reinforcements, but made a snap decision and went to the back (past all the claymores), I prepared myself for a long onslaught with the gatling but after 2 or 3 Librarians it just ended.

Good luck to everyone, this is not as bad as it first seems smile

I hate using other people's videos, but this one I just had to share!
He played this on Ranger hardcore using only the highest levels, I was playing on easy and it really helped me, so this should be a HUGE help to anyone else struggling with this pain in the butt achievement!

Credit of course goes to Vampires Crypt, the maker of this video!!

Not to detract from the guide above, just wanted to share how I completed this DLC.

The human levels are by far the most annoying as you have to play very defensively and conservatively.
For the human level after the tutorial (I played the left hand one) I used the Railgun, Preved and the Kalash 2012. I also camped at the top over looking both ramps and made sure they didn't open any of the top spawn doors. This makes the traffic flow much easier to manage. However you have to be accurate

For any of the Nosalise levels (I again played the left hand ones, apart from one huge one) you can play very, very cheap. You can simply run trains of them, picking the odd one off here and there, and after a set time they despawn and you win the wave. This makes them much more survivable. This proves especially useful on the last level! I like to try and thin them down as much as possible, however as long as you are careful and competent at running trains these levels should be a cake walk

After entering the simulation, you’ll be given the ability to choose 3 weapons to take into the arena of your choice. The weapon selection will be sparse at first, but will increase in number as you complete missions. Essentially you’ll want a Kalash, the Shambler and for precision shots either the tricked-out Lowlife or one of the Sniper Rifles when these become available. Though feel free to choose whatever you’re most comfortable with.

Mission 1:
- Choose the only path available
- Will consist of 2 waves of Human Enemies

The arena is essentially a large rectangle with 3 levels, the upper level being merely a catwalk, and the lower level largely being submerged in ankle-deep water. The enemies will initially spawn from the two large doors under the sign that shows what wave you are currently in.

However, positioned around the map are the yellow switchboxes that are used to shut off lights in the main campaign. Enemies can use these boxes to open additional spawn points around the arena. Once these points are open, they cannot be closed by the player.

If the player has Claymores, they can be set up right in front of the two initial spawn points before the wave begins for some easy kills. Then they can stand on the upper level catwalk and kill the soldiers as they spawn in the doorways, taking cover on the right when your health is low. Or post up behind the pillar on left side of the middle level just as you come upstairs from the water-filled lower level. When posted there, enemies will slowly try to creep up on you and can get hung up on the wall. This allows you to pop around the corner and shoot them easily while they are “confused”. Though using this method you will need to keep an eye on enemies creeping down from the upper catwalk across the arena.

Mission 2:
- Choose the path on the far right
- A HUGE zone that will consist of 4 waves of Nosalises

This arena is largely similar to the one in Mission 1, a rectangle with three levels, but frankly, it doesn’t really matter.

The only strategy to employ here is to simply run around the arena and never stop. Really, that’s it. You may end up having to shoot 1 or 2 Nosalises that get directly in your way, but overall they can be dodged very easily. Any damage you take will likely be healed before you ever have to use a health pack. Even the “screaming” Nosalises have little effect with this method.

Simply run around the arena until the arbitrary time limit for each wave expires (there is no timer except the one between waves), the Nosalises will die and the time to the next wave will begin to count down. After completing the 4 waves, the “Willpower” achievement will unlock.

Mission 3:
- Choose the path on the far left
- Will consist of 5 waves of Human Enemies

This arena is largely a box, again with three levels. Make your way up to the top floor and post up behind one of the corner pillars on the side opposite the spawn doors that have the notice above them telling you what wave you’re in. You’ll know you’re on the right side when you find a small, open area that has an ammo cache to open for 40 MGR and a pack of health kits on a pillar to the left of the ammo. In general, enemies will only try to come at you from one direction, however a few will get clever and try to come up behind you. Like the first arena, there are additional spawn points the enemies can open, so you’ll need to keep an eye on them once they are open. Whichever side you post on, you should lay a few Claymores down on the opposite side to mitigate the number of enemies that might try to flank you.

Also, some of the enemies will camp and there are snipers (noted by their green laser sights) that will wait for you to pop out. But keep in mind that, like the Nosalis levels, there is only a finite time for each wave. So if the enemies are just posted up waiting for you, you can simply wait them out instead and end the wave.

Mission 4:
- Choose the path on the far left
- Will consist of 5 waves of Nosalises

When the mission starts, turn 180° and run through the tunnel. You will emerge into a large, square section of the arena with a raised pathway all the way around it. This will be your flight path for the next 5 waves. Simply run around the top of the arena dodging Nosalises until the waves end.

Mission 5:
- Choose the only path available
- Will consist of 3 waves of Nosalises

There is a mingun and extra ammo for it to pick up if you feel you need it, but it will be unnecessary. This room is one giant circle and the only enemies are Nosalises, so employ the strategy of simply running around the room until the waves end. At the end of Wave 3, the achievement will unlock.

This is probably the hardest achievement in the game.

On levels with monsters, you can simply run around the perimeter until time runs out.
