How to unlock the Goldrush achievement in Microsoft Flight Simulator - Definitive Guide

I would strongly recommend completing all tutorials before attempting this so you understand the basics of takeoff, landing, trim, and navigation.

Go to Activities > Bush Trips > Breckenridge to Mariposa Yosemite. In this bush trip you'll be flying the Savage Cub, a small plane that can be a bit finicky and is easy to fly too fast resulting in an overstress crash. I found I had to pretty consistently trim up (aim the nose down) about halfway from center to the edge of the green (in exterior camera) to keep the plane from wanting to climb constantly. Try to keep your speeds around 90 knots, get your trim situated so it flies level, and don't make sudden movements and you should be good. Also when landing, "pump" the brakes, meaning don't just hold down cn_Y or you could end up flipping the plane forward on its nose. As long as you feather it, couple seconds on, 1 second off, etc., you can avoid this embarrassing mistake that will cause you to have to redo the whole leg.

This bush trip consists of 25 legs and will take you a little over 9 and a half hours in total to complete. I haven't found any way to refuel the plane other than going to Options > Controls > Keyboard, setting Filter to All, and searching by name for "refuel" and binding the "Repair and Refuel" option to a key (I used the backslash key). Every few legs you will need to use this button to refuel your plane when it gets low.

The only thing you can't do that will void the achievement is use the "Back on Track" feature which shows you where you are on the VFR Map to help you if you get lost. (Commenters have noted that sim rate changes and dev teleports also may void the achievement). Other than that, if you just follow the descriptions in the Navigation pane, it's pretty easy to follow the landmarks it gives you and get where you need to go. However, I did find it useful to have Google Maps open on another monitor or device to give a little extra help in identifying where I was. It can help you make sure you're on the right road or following the right river, etc. If you do get lost to the point where you just can't find your way, you can always pause and restart the leg. Just make sure you do not use the Back on Track feature. You can use the smart cam feature to help you find the airport or airstrip you are supposed to land on when you get close to it (cn_X by default if you're using a controller, s by default on the keyboard).

Enjoy the beautiful scenery on your way to getting what is likely to be a pretty nice ratio achievement for a while to come.

Once again, this is complete bs and shows the lazyness of Microsoft and Asobo when it comes to effort.

Landing at the final airport gets registed, but wont trigger the "completed" confirmation screen. Seems to be kinda random - I messaged a few people who actually unlocked it here on TA and figured out, that the bug seems to happen almost exclusivly on Xbox while some players on Xbox seem to have gotten it after some wait...

Ow - and by the way - the final Airport is easy to spot from the air, still the ingame description leads to the middle of the town the airport belongs to.

Maybe it will just pop one day - at least it says "100%" on the bushtrip menu. (also I am 100% sure, that I did not press the back on track button, I closed the map on every leg before I did anything else)

Update: I did the new spotlight challenge, checked the bush flight menu again and my screen glitched, showing just 1 leg and weird pixels. Now im back on 96% xD. Ill retry soon and update here if it somehow unlocks.

I completed the Nevada Bush Trip never using the 'back on track' feature (closed that window for every leg) and no achievement. I then thought of the Assistance Options and changed it to True to Life. Completed the Patagonia trip again without ever using the 'back on track' feature and again no achievement. During this process I realized that not all legs were being recorded in my profile Logbook. So I completed the Balkans bush trip while exiting to main menu after every leg so every leg would be recorded in the logbook and still no achievement. I'm now wondering if the entire bush trip must be completed in one setting but wanted to check if anyone has suggestions of something I'm missing. After all, several of the stopping points are at grass runways and I haven't gotten the On The Green achievement either. Is there another assistance option I'm missing that needs to be turned off?

Made this as I was flying, working on the other ones but this one is the hardest as you cannot use AP with HDG mode to auto it all the way to the destination. You can tell when I started as the first few do not have airport codes lol.

Personally I closed the VFR map every leg and only had the airport picture up when I was not sure what I was looking for or needed to check the time for a rough estimate at where I am on the map. Cheve popped after going back to home page after last leg, this was done across three long sessions, so no need to do it in a sitting.

For rapid descending you will want to max your flaps and cut your engine, then just monitor your speed and keep it in the yellow for best results. Kinda the same for landing, max flaps and when a short distance away or over the runway then cut your engine and land gently, then pitch your nose up while applying brakes, if this is not enough to keep you on the back wheel then let off the brakes (but still hold the nose up, this will force it to recover and regain traction).

Good call on being careful with the brakes after landing. I learned this lesson quickly after having to repeat the first leg because of doing exactly this. I have updated the solution.

If you accidentally click on "Back on track", do you just have to restart the leg that you clicked the button or do you have to restart the entire journey from leg 1? I was trying to adjust the map and clicked it by mistake.

There's no way to track your progress on it so I couldn't say. Hopefully just restarting the leg you were on will do it. If I did that I would force close the game without using the menu and hope it didn't save anything. But it's still a crapshoot that you probably won't find out until the end.

Unlike the other two bush trips I found this one more tedious than fun. Some of the airstrips are nearly impossible to find, if you google 'Nevada Bush Trip [destination] someone named Zharf uploaded the whole trip to Youtube which helped me on several legs (looking at you, Bodad). For Black Rock you need to taxi over to where the buildings are, there are some other planes too. It won't unlock on the runway.

For some of the legs I think it's easier to just take a slightly longer route and stick to a definitive point of reference like a road as opposed to cutting through mountains like the game wants you to, it's easy to get lost trying to follow creeks and rivers.

I'm using Little Navmap with these bush trips, it even has some of those tiny dirt strips although you can't search for them and still have to find them manually. Once I found them, I put a manual waypoint and then it makes the whole thing a lot easier. I also landed on the nose during breaking a couple times, but it still completed the leg, fortunately...!

I haven't tackled these bush trips yet but was thinking about doing one this weekend. Do we have to do these in one sitting, or can you save and resume progress?
0
0
By jrod39 on 04 Sep 2020 14:49
Not required to do them in once sitting. You can stop after completing any leg and it will save your progress and next time you'll resume at the next leg.

I've just completed it and got the achievement using Little Navmap on a separate laptop. You can easily identify the route on the map and plan it out dropping waypoints. Also increasing the sim speed made this so much more enjoyable as the plane is sooo slow.

Just FYI, I too once accidentally clicked on "Back on Track". I immediately restarted the leg and after completing the whole trip it didn't unlock. I tried to restart from that point and it didn't unlock either, so if you do click on it, I would suggest Alt+F4 immediately to stop it from caching/saving, otherwise it looks like it's the whole trip has to be done again.

At least I need to do 1000 hours though...

Yea it seems like you must replay the whole thing if you click Back on Track. The 1000 hours can be unlocked in 30 minutes by playing around with your clock btw.

If you're referring to gaining additional progress, the trips were fixed, however, you need to delete your bush trip save and start over in order for it to progress again. There is a way to devmode to teleport yourself ahead if you don't want to refly old legs, but as of right now it's the only way to get progress going on these again.

erod550, thanks, but shouldn't the completion indicator change by 4% after completing the first leg ? Will it change from 0% to 100 % after last leg ? I would like to know it before I commit to fly all 25.

No I don't believe the tracker will move for this one as it's not a counting achievement. People have unlocked the achievement as recently as yesterday so there's no reason to think it won't unlock for you when you finish all legs. I would also avoid messing with the time speed up feature as I believe some have mentioned it voids the achievement on the other bush trips.

I had completed 18 legs of the gold rush bush trip when I became aware that if you use the back on track all of your achievements are wiped out. I went back and started over @ the 1st leg but I am not sure I am receiving the achievements for each of these legs. At the end of each new leg it shows I have successfully completed it. I looked in my profile and the bush trip registers 0/24. Is there a glitch in the program or do I have to wait until the end of the entire trip to see my achievements?

There isn't really a way to know if it's counting for you until you finish the whole bush trip. I don't think that counter updates for every individual leg because each leg isn't a bush trip. All the legs together for each location are one bush trip. Also that counter has been notoriously inaccurate in the past.

No. It should autosave after completing each leg and you can come back and finish later.

For those asking if the achievement tracker should move, simple answer is it will remain at 0% until you complete all legs. Don't touch the VFR back on track button, sim rate or teleport or even think about pressing them and you will be fine. I have completed the other two Bush Trips and achievement progress remained at 0%. Landed at the last airport and achievements popped as soon as I stopped the plane on the runway.

What does it mean by "Without any navigation assistance"?
Does that mean (under assist options) You can have everything else on easy, but 'Navigation Aids' on hard? I'm not sure what needs to be disabled.

It means without using the "Back on Track" feature which will give you a nav point. You have to just use the maps to navigate. Everything else I left on default settings.

I stepped away from the Xbox for a moment while flying one of the legs and upon return the plane had apparently crashed so I chose to restart from that menu and instead of putting me on the departure airport of that leg it put me at the departure airport of the previous leg, so I had to fly an additional 20 minutes just to get to the part where you would normaly begin that leg.

This game is so buggy, still nice but sometimes very unfortunate things can happen.

How do you know where you're supposed to go? The other two had a pink compass at least that you could follow, or a map in your plane so you could see where you were on the map. This seems to have nothing.

The only way I can think of is following a youtube video religiously for over 10 hours which is kind of exhausting...

You have to follow the navlog or the google earth link a few comments up. It's a huge bummer compared to the first two. I spent an hour on the first leg and found an airport that looked like the right one, but was 1 hour south of where I needed to be. If you see a butt ton of windmills, go north.

Update. I just found out that you can set a button to hold altitude even if the plane does not have that option. This changes everything in Nevada!

@Fuzzmeister J which altitude option is it? in the options menu?
0
0
By Mort on 11 Aug 2021 14:17
Toggle Freeze Altitude. I put it on RB + R3. (LB+R3 is refuel and repair). It locks the plane and it will not change altitude. If you can control speed and go too fast if you try to nose dive, but stay the same altitude. It's good if you want to look away for a few minutes and know you are going the right way. Some flights do require more attention.

Edit: Done with this. That was a long flight at the end! I just knew I was gonna crash and spawn in some trees, but I made it through!

I would also recommend learning how to adjust elevator trim, because that's how you would actually maintain altitude in a real plane (without autopilot). There's a little line on your attitude meter that shows your current trim level. Default is Y+Dpad up to lower it and Y+Dpad down to raise it. By playing with that you can get the plane to fly level without cheats. Not condemning cheats at all because I used them plenty, but just saying that's how you would get the plane to stay flying level if you're interested in learning the legit way.

It sounds like you need to go through the tutorials to learn the basics of how to read the map and how to navigate. If you already pressed Back on Track, you have voided this achievement for yourself anyway on this run and will have to start the Bush trip over from scratch.

TweeKING KEV, depends on what you're talking about with "redoing it again." If you mean redoing the entire Bush Trip from leg 1 (without using Back on Track), then it will count. If you just redo the leg where you used Back on Track and continue on, that won't unlock the achievement.

As far as I’m aware, to “reset” the progress on a bush trip to reset the achievement is to uninstall and reinstall the game on Xbox. For PC, you can simply navigate to the game files and delete the save file for it.

Sim Update 6 really screwed things up. I just got the Anemoi achievement but I had to start it over from scratch because after they fixed the airport it wouldn't register me landing at the right airport. I was at 40% on the Nevada Bush Trip and when I went to land at my airport it didn't register on this one. Going to have to start from scratch again. I'm tired of Asobo breaking the game with their garbage updates.

I'm wondering the same thing. I started mine back in August and flew a few legs for fun. i started doing the accomplishments in January and just picked up where I left off in this bush trip. I'm guessing i used it doing the first three legs last summer so hopefully if I just re-accomplish those it'll pop.

I used dev mode (on PC) to skip all but the last leg (using teleport, credit to someone’s comment on the Balkans guide).

Since this plane doesn’t have AP or any kind of NAV, I relied on Google Earth to to help follow the route. In fact (and here’s the reason I’m commenting), the wiki contains a link with a user-made Google earth path that helps immensely (if on iPad like I was, make sure you install the Google Earth map first or the link won’t work. https://flight.fandom.com/wiki/Microsoft_Flight_Simulator_(2...)/Bush_Trips/Breckenridge_to_Mariposa-Yosemite

Quick tip: if you get lost just assign your smartcam to show you the next waypoint. Just click the camera button on the drop down menu and click smartcam. For me I had to assign it to 'airport' for some reason. Other options would not give me the correct heading/location of the next waypoint. Not even selecting the exact airport you'll be landing at next. Just put it on 'airport' if lost and that should guide you to the next waypoint. :)

Google Maps was a lifesaver at times. The instructions are clear most of the time, but you can't tell what the name of the road you're flying over is from the air so getting acquainted with the area and the upcoming stretches helped a lot.

General tip for the plane that I learned the hard way - braking too hard will nose-dive the plane on the runway and cause you to have to redo the whole leg. It seems obvious, but it can happen if you aren't paying attention. I found that pulling back on the yoke solved this issue by counteracting the forces (as long as you're not going fast enough to generate lift, which you shouldn't be on a landing anyway).

I also had trouble getting the game to register that I landed at Black Rock City. There are 2 dirt paths running parallel, but neither one would trigger the completion of the leg. I ended up landing in between the two and it finally counted.

One last thing that I cannot stress enough - this does not have to be done in one sitting. I did this one in 2 sessions - 3 hours and 7.5 hours and I wish I had broken that 2nd session up. At the very least, get up and stretch your legs every couple of... legs.

I've done two attempts today to get the achievement for the first leg - to no avail.
I didn't even touch the map, all setting turned to "true to life". I didn't get any achievement after first landing, so I decided to fly the same leg again. Unfortunately, no achievement either, this time the flight wasn't even logged into pilot logbook. It seems that achievements and pilot logbook are all messed up with the current version. It's very dissapointing and frustrating because these achievements give a sense of purpose in a game without any other goals.

@SincereSeeker6 I will be making videos as well as the Google Earth guide for the other ones, the trip itself will be massively sped up but so long as you follow the verbal instructions (climb to x altitude then enable auto pilot with heading mode set to x heading) all you need to do is look at my in game clock and come back to your game when you reach that time and you should be able to confirm the destination off of the video as the start and end will be normal speed

Yeah don’t use the back on track button. Use this flight plan made on Google earth. It has helped me way better than the nav log descriptions. Helps more if you have a laptop or computer to look at it while flying.

Has anybody else landed at Mariposa on the last leg without the game registering it and ending the flight? I have now completed that leg twice without it registering, weirdly the game says that the bush trip is 100% complete in the activities menu but not the in-game achievement list. Definitely did not use Back On Track.
