How to unlock the Such Great Heights achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide

You have a ranking which combines the defense score of your 4 Forts with your attack score in ranked conquest. Your defense score is purely dependent on the orcs you station in your forts and the upgrades of your forts, In the Vanilla version of the game, having all spots filled by max level 60 Orc Captains and having siege upgrades in each spot will give you a defense score of 570. If you calculate 570 x 4 forts = 2280 max defense score. That already brings you very close to the 2500 score needed to get the rank of Captain.

Now your attack score, unlike your defense score, has no direct link to your Orc Captains and upgrades. It's based on your performances online. If you conquer a fort and get gold, you get a 100 pts bump to your attack score, 25 pts for silver and no points for Bronze. Gold requires you to conquer the fort in less than 6 minutes and Silver in less than 10 minutes I think, timers will appear in the top right corner during your mission.

Now the combined score of your defense and attack must be 2500 to become Captain and unlock the achievement. Me personally I was well over 3000 and I had still not unlocked the achievement. It seems there is a bug where if you get the achievement while upgrading your forts on defense it does not unlock, I had to go online and play a game for it to unlock.

Doesn't work for me. Have every Assault and Defence force at 570, have won 5+ fortress assaults and as many online defences and my rank is stuck on Knight.

Patched maybe?

I just want to add a comment that I had no issue with this. When I upgraded one of my armies and then clicked over to 'online' from the menu, it instantly popped.

Do you really need to grind to level 60?

Interesting--never did a single online fort conquest, and the achievement popped as soon as I went to the Online menu. Overall rating is 2567; I assume that some of my points came from Online Vendetta missions. I did quite a few of those, both to get Legendary gear and, occasionally, for a little XP.

Just a word on lvl 60--I had no trouble at all getting there just by playing the story (finished @ 47) and then working through Shadow Wars.

@SpeleoFool - thanks. I didn't realize how long the Shadow Wars were but level 60 is very obtainable.

Just started but when do you even unlock the forts?! hope it's not towards the end of the game that you get the 4th fort...

Ok, dumb question, but how do you "install" siege upgrades?

Nvm,, figured it out, lol

I'm not getting any points for my defence rating. I've done one conquest and won (got gold). Is there something I need to do to "register" my defence points, otherwise this will be a boring grind.

Earned this just now and never did online conquest even once....was building up my siege defense, mostly by doing online vendettas. This Cheeto popped when I finished a vendetta. I did have my forts at 60+ in all 7 defense positions though.

I just started doing a bunch of online conquests in Nurnen which I found a fun thing to do in end game, and it just popped for me. wasn't really expecting it to as I was just having fun wrecking other players' forts.

I had lvl 48-53 orcs in every spot and all 4 forts. Simply playing a decent amount of vendettas and Online Conquests through out the story helps so you do not need all lvl 60.

Does it count the Lithlad fortress if you have the DLC?

MasterJorath. Don’t make the same mistake I made and upgraded Lithlad fully and wasted all currency on it, after finishing the achievements for that DLC. Play 2 hours online conquest. Only to realize rank wasn’t affected AT ALL. I went to Ciroth Ungol, played a match and rank increased when I won.

So guys don’t play Lithlad when going for this achievement.

You get 8 Legendary Captains for completing the DLC. They will be one level below you, so you might want to wait until you are level 60 before you claim them.

Heya, thanks for the solution! I have an issue though, my fortresses all have their upgrades and all have level 60 watchers, any my score shows 570...only when I am in the region. Once I am in another region, all other places show that they are only 480. If I teleport there, it is back to 570. It makes no sense to me atm.

This achievement is one that is very wonky. Specifically because the in-game tracker has some trouble staying consistent at times. This guide was helpful but I honestly think this is an achievement that will come naturally by completing the main story to 100%. I did have a bit of trouble getting it to pop. My overall score was 2465 so I decided to get the last few points I needed by doing an online conquest. I found that the first two ranked conquests of each area were very easy, after that it’s a 50/50. So I went to another location and did the second online conquest for it and got a gold rating, but the tracker said I was 2 points short somehow. I went back to the previous area where it showed my score to be 2465 and interacted with the online conquest tab in that area which prompted the tracker to show my correct progress and gave me the achievement.

You need to purchase the Training Order, for 1000 coins.

I focused heavily on defense, upgrading Captains in the Training Orders section will help with their defense. This can be expensive though.

Contrary to the guide, levels do indeed exceed level 60 (up to 80 i believe). This would actually increase the defense stats even further of the Forts by having level 70+ Warchiefs for example. Its a little bit of a grind however.

I spent time sending captains on Nemsis missions in each City, and then assigning them once they mirrored my level. I was assisting them to ensure they succedded to level them up aswell as earn XP. Even though the XP requirement increases for Talion per level, i actually enjoyed levelling up my captains this way hitting 2 birds with one stone. It was also an opportunity to recruit more high levelled Captains and get a little more XP for doing so.

You must Reach 2500 in Online Conquest.

To see where you currently are... hit the pause/menu button and then scroll down to ONLINE (under GARRISON) Then select View ratings at the bottom (space bar / A).

Your overall rating at the top is the number we are trying to get to 2500. You do this by upgrading each area's assault and defense teams.

Some tips to get you there. I finished the game at level 50, so wasn't keen on grinding to level 60 as the other guide says. I didn't have to using this method.

1) Fast travel to each region. Unlock all spots for both teams. Upgrade and activate one siege upgrade for each assault and defense spot.

2) Find your top 7 leveled captains in that area. Place your 7th strongest captain as Overload. This will give you your highest 6 characters to use in assault and 7 strongest in Defense. (You cant use your overload on your assault team but you can on defense)

3) In order for the score to register, you need to travel to the "online conquest" red spot on the map and go to start a conquest. You don't have to start it, but for the scores to update it has to load like this.

4) You can get 100 assault points by getting gold in an online assault match. If you have a particularly low assault area, do an online assault which you should be pro at by now. Aim for less than level 150 defense for easy less than 5 minutes (hopefully)

5) If you need to quickly level a few captains in an area, send them all to kill a target. Advance time 3 times at fast travel points, and with ambush backup especially, they will likely win and gain a few levels. This is a fast way to level many captains at once instead of one at a time in the fight pit.

Using the above method I was able to get 2500 using level 40 and a few 50 captains only.

Your conquest score needs to be 2500 for the achievement to register, this is a combined score based on the defense rating of your four forts and wins in the online conquests.

If you have near max level orcs in all your slots and win around 10 rounds online it should bring your score up to the minimum.

After Shadow Wars ended, I had about 1000 rating. Then I just did easy ranked online forts (defense rating < 300) and got gold ranking every time, which gives 100 rating each time and is very doable with decently-leveled orcs.

To unlock this achievement you need to reach the rank of Captain in Online Conquest. Online Conquest is a mode where you can attack other players fortresses online to earn rewards such as loot and money as well as to try and recruit more Orcs from them. You will be timed when you attack a fortress and get a boost to your rank based on that. If you complete it within seven minutes you get a gold rating, within ten minutes a silver rating and longer than ten minutes you get bronze. You get a one hundred point boost to your rank for earning gold, just twenty five points for silver and no points for bronze and if you fail to take the fortress you lose twenty five points off your rating.

You need a rating of 2500 total to be ranked as 'Captain'.

Your overall rating is based on your total attack rating and your total defence rating combined. You can affect your defence rating by bolstering your defences. You can do this in the Army menu for a fortress you own by pressing then adding a Captain to each of the slots. You need to purchase some of the slots before you can assign a Captain to it. You will want to assign a Captain to each slot in all four fortresses and purchase an upgrade for each of the Captains. The higher the level of your Captain, the more it will add to your defence rating. My highest were level fifty one but most were in the mid fourties. With all four fortresses filled with Captains and upgrades to their captains I had around 1500 defence rating. My attack rating was around 1000 after eight successful attacks with a gold rating and one successful attack with a silver rating and one loss. With this I was able to just edge over the needed 2500 rating to unlock this achievement.

This is of course more achieveable if you had all level sixty Captains or if you were successful at taking fortresses online with a gold rating, however the more successful you are the higher your attack rating is, which in turn has you attack higher rated fortresses, thus getting harder the more successful you are. I found my way to be a compromise that minimized any grinding.

Although the trophy mentions Online Conquest, you do not have to actually try and conquer other players forts, you only need to be connected to the internet.

Your online conquest rank is determined by the overall Assault and Defence Ratings of your forces across all regions of the game. Captain is rank 5 out of 10, requiring a total combined rating of 2500 to unlock the trophy.

As part of the story you will automatically be building your forces, if you are actively buying siege/defence upgrades and assigning the highest level orcs available, which you should be doing your rating will gradually grow over the course of the game. You can check your progress in Pause Menu > Online > to view your current online rating. The trophy will pop once you reach Captain rank by checking your online rating.

See a screenshot below of all 10 ranks and the required rating to reach them:

Sometimes the stats don't always sync between your offline and online rating, I found that travelling to each region and viewing the online rating again would sometimes force it to update correctly, or just checking again after playing the game for a while.
Once you reach Level 45 and complete the Pit Fights of each region you will have all Siege and Defense slots unlocked, allowing you to further increase your rating.
You should achieve Captain Rank during Act 4, if you don't for whatever reason play the first online conquest available in each region and try to finish it in time to get a gold rating, this will increase your rating by 100 every time, as long you didn't lose any orcs in the process. I only recommend doing this once per region as subsequent online conquests pit you against harder fortresses with much higher defense ratings, making it considerably more difficult to conquer.

To become a captain you need 2500 rating.
Advice: in order not to waste time on the boss, attack him with a charged ult (L3+R3), summon graug (<-) and spiders (->) to distract his subordinates and cut him down.

I would like to give a couple of tips on fighting the ruler of the castle:

1) Pay attention to the ruler's weaknesses. WHAT he is afraid of and what makes him angry, what he is invulnerable to, his bonuses. If fatal to poison, fire, etc. then it’s a no brainer what to do (but I wouldn’t count on it, because the players aren’t stupid either... and most likely they won’t make the one who loses so easily the MAIN)

Most likely, a legendary hero will be waiting for you. At worst - a legendary maniac. But there is also a higher one. In my experience... I came to the conclusion that an ordinary orc with 7 points about “infuriates” and 5 invulnerabilities is much more dangerous than the words “legendary” or “supreme”.

2) Pay attention to the hero's class. And his skills. Because it will be a “pleasant” surprise if suddenly the “bloodhound” turns out to have the skill “without a chance.” I would highlight the opportunist (block of daggers, jumps), the killer (no chance), the tank (due to the hill), well, I think there is no need to explain any more...

3) The type of weapon in the hands and its effects (poison, fire, curse). It may happen that you come across, for example, an orc with 2 axes and a freeze and jump block (this will be fun for you). Accordingly, you need to somehow adapt and understand what is useless against your opponent and what can work (a bow, for example, or hammers)

3.5) Your own arsenal. After all, there are things that, let’s say, heal you when you are on fire, cursed, and reduce the time of negative effects. Some legendary sets give good bonuses. Accumulate more rage, for example. But it’s useless to give advice here, you have to figure it out yourself. (More bow shots, more damage, etc.)

4) skill "Invulnerability to shots." Here I wanted to pay very close attention to this. If it is not there, then there is an option to climb along the walls under the roof (where there are archers) and changing your skills, “pulling the boss towards you with an arrow” and fighting (ideally) one-on-one with him can help a lot. For some orcs specialize in crowd fighting and summoning all sorts of hordes. Olok cannot be pulled in because he is too heavy, but then you can shoot at him with a bow. (for example, you can even put “replenishment of arrows” through submission and “hiding”, attracting “small” orcs to you, sucking life out of them and even healing them so that they do not die. It turns out to be such a good living quiver of arrows.

5) Animal. There are situations here when the enemy is strong in skills and fighting style, but weak to animals. Sometimes you can quickly overwhelm him with it. You can constantly summon, for example, a dog. Or just trample him along with the crowd.

6) There is also a good option: “my” set of skills and ammunition for the fight with the boss (effective if you are good at controlling the life bar).

There is such a legendary set (set), which is collected for a network vendetta (2 things are enough) and which makes it possible for 40% of your life to use any skills that require power. THOSE. you can use Execute, Absorb, Punch, or Explosive Arrow without gaining any power at all. In essence, this means 2 executions in a row, and then you have 20% of your life left. But “our hero” has 2 good skills, one of which allows him to subdue orcs through an arrow, and the second “Completely” restores lives and a little power when subjugated. Accordingly, you can hit an enemy hero with execution 2 times, jump back and in slow motion, aiming with a bow, move to an ordinary soldier (either enemy or allied) and subdue him, while completely restoring his lives. Well, then we repeat everything. 2 executions - arrow, 2 executions - arrow. You can take arrows near walls, they seem to be spammed constantly.

7) And finally. No orcs are perfect, they always have weaknesses, you just need to focus on them. If there was a “perfect orc”, then it would say “invulnerable to everything” and “everything always infuriates”, but I haven’t seen anyone like that yet.

Everything is much simpler. The level of the fortress and its difficulty depend on how many times you captured it. For the first time they give you the simplest one, with orcs 10-20 lvl, usually no more than three leaders. After completing the first fortress, they will give you a more difficult one >20lvl and so on.
The level of “difficulty” can be easily checked by the level of the chest that is given for a successful capture.
That is: first a chest of lvl 10, then lvl 20, lvl 30 and ascending. Along with it, the difficulty of capturing will increase.
Therefore, I recommend capturing each fortress 2-3 times, this should be enough

Also, in order to acquire a suitable stormtrooper for capturing a fortress, you can use the “Shop” tab, and already there they hope for a decent opening of characters in the chest! - 3 characters, one of them legendary, as well as 2 instructions for combat training! The chest costs 1500 Marian, you can easily accumulate it by selling unnecessary items in your backpack.

Another option is simply waiting. I've only completed 2 online conquests but I'm currently rated 2159 and haven't finished the second act yet. Judging by the statistics, the fortress can withstand the siege and I get a rating. But this is pure randomness. But it still wouldn’t hurt to keep the fortress in full combat readiness.

I’ll add a hint: the more you win in one location, the more difficult it is, so it’s easier to conquer a few fortresses in each location; in each location they will be from the lowest level

It’s better not to do this trophy at the beginning of the game... because at the end, when you have all the orcs of lvl 55 and above, everything will turn out much faster... since the rating consists of defense points in fortresses in each region and attack rating in each region.... as a result, at the end of the game we put lvl 55 orcs everywhere and the trophy falls out on its own) well, at most, capture 1 fortress)
I beat him myself in Act 2, and at the end of the game I had a rating of 3,300... so there was no point in farming fortresses at all...

The opponent is selected adequately for you, so the weaker the army you have in the zone, the easier it is to pass and meet the time limit (it is always fixed). At level 45, I stormed one fortress with no army where there were 3 low-level leaders and 0 defense upgrades, and another with a maximum army of level 30 orcs, and I was given an enemy fortress with 7 leaders of 50+ level and all defense upgrades -__- But yours the army and defense force of your fortress also bring points for ranks, so I scored about 1700 simply for the development of the fortress and armies, and 800 already in the assaults on the fortresses themselves. Don’t put off the trophy for the past game, that’s the main advice.

Got it in the second act. I upgraded all the fortresses to a reasonable level (Lithlad does not count), and went on online vendettas several times. Everywhere he appointed orcs for both attack and defense (both sides count) and gave them reasonable improvements. This in itself gives about 2000 points. I went to the siege of Nurnen several times with varying degrees of success - once I just ran into a “non-killer” - an orc with protection from arrows, recovery and a group of trolls.

I left the entire household overnight with a rating of 2498 :-). The next evening I saw a rating of 2485 and gathered for a siege. But when loading the siege screen, the engine updated the rating and it exceeded 2500 - someone unsuccessfully came to me for a siege or an online vendetta - I managed to set myself up once the day before. Ring.

So... everything is much simpler than what was written above. We go to the menu through options and then to the Network tab, the final rating is shown there, you need to score 2500 points. Next, click on the cross “see rating”. There we look at two parameters: the overall assault rating and the overall defense rating. What is the actual point: you can gain a defense rating by improving your fortress with the help of siege upgrades of 7 leaders, and you can buy a boost from each leader. Personally, I had 7 nails of level 60 each and a defense rating of 570, and so on for each city (there are only 4 of them). In total, my defense rating was 2010. With the assault rating, on the contrary, when you perform a network conquest, they ask you to choose captains for the assault, there you can already choose 6 captains, each has its own boost
