How to unlock the Legendary Hero achievement in Minecraft Legends - Definitive Guide
This guide is written for solo players that should unlock most achievements in one playthrough. If you wish to play co-op most of the tips should still apply, but please note that the game is still new and there may be certain conditions that void the achievement if you are not the host of the world (such as leaving/disconnecting from the world mid session). Until these concerns are squashed, I'd recommend sticking to a solo run just to be sure the achievement unlocks. It is not possible to join another players world and just fight the final boss. You will have to do a complete playthrough. You cannot do a run on an easier difficulty and change it to legendary either.
With that out of the way I will break this run down into six sections:
1) Initial tutorial
2) Prologue
3) Open World exploration
4) Counter Offensive
5) Destroying the Hordes
6) End Game
-----------
1) When you first load up the game you are forced to play on the default difficulty. The tutorial part itself is simple enough. Once it is complete and the achievement unlocks save and quit back to the main menu. Here you must create a new save file, this time with the option to change the difficulty to legendary. From this point on do not change the difficulty as you will void your achievement. Feel free to skip the tutorial and head into the next section of the game.
2) This section of the game acts as the prologue to the main game and will feature more tutorials. For the most part this section is straight forward and the NPCs will walk you through more basics such as defending villages and defeating Piglin bases. The world is randomly generated so the locations will be different for every player. There is no need to go out of your way for this section as you are given plenty of starting resources to begin and handle this section. You can only hold a limited amount of resources at time and only a few (mandatory) piglin bases are spawned so you won't be able to upgrade much in this section of the game. Roaming enemies also don't spawn which are needed for resources later. After you defend a few villages and take out some of the required smaller Piglin bases, the world will turn night and you will have to fight your first large Piglin base. Don't sweat this part because the game will spawn unlimited zombies, skeletons and creepers to aid you for this fight. If they get killed in the base, run just outside the outskirts of the base and you will see plenty of allies spawning to send in and destroy the base. In no time the base will fall and now the main game will begin.
3) Now is time for the main part of this game. You are tasked with defeating three separate Piglin factions, each with their own type of terrain and bases along with a boss battle. If you pull up your map you will see each faction is a different color. These factions are dynamic and will expand throughout the map and take over territory you claim. Don't waste your time going head first into their large bases. You will deplete your resources and by the time you manage to chip away at their bases they will continue to expand their territory gain.
The key strategy to beating this playthrough is unlocking the four "First Golems." These golems will always respawn at fountains and require no additional resources after you unlock them. Because the map is randomly generated they will be in different locations for everyone. They will first appear as a "?"on your map and compass until you get close to interact with them. With this information in mind you must explore your entire map to locate them. They will not be free however and will require initial resources to unlock so you must destroy smaller Piglin bases you find along the way to earn gold and prismarine. These small bases usually have around 5-6 structures, so place a cobblestone golem spawner and target each structure until they fall. Depending on the structure they will drop gold or prismarine so pick them up quickly before they despawn.
Once you find and interact with your first "First Golem" you will be tasked with returning to the large fountain hub in the center of the map. This fountain acts as a spot to spend your prismarine on upgrades in the form of "improvement towers." In order to actually unlock the Firsts you will have build the corresponding First Golems improvement tower. You will also need to build four separate towers to enable you to mine iron, coal, redstone and diamond ores. If you don't have enough prismarine look for a small Piglin base on your map to target and return once you have enough. Remember that you have a cap and won't be able to pick up gold or prismarine when its full, so make sure you spend it when you can. You can also build towers to expand the amount of resources you can gather. Once you have built all these improvement towers now you have to gather the right amount of resources to unlock all four of the Firsts. Continue to explore the map searching for the remaining Firsts, while mining ores and attacking small Piglin bases along the way.
While looking for the Firsts you should also come across different mounts, initially marked as a "?" on your map. You will want to find the beetle mount as it allows you to climb walls and to glide, which will help some of the large Piglin bases, and overall make navigation easier. There are two other mounts you can find along the way and are required to ride at least once for an achievement. You will also find towers that you can unlock in a similar way to the Firsts. If you have the resources to unlock them feel free as they will help with a boss fight later on and at least one each of the three tower types is required for an achievement, but for now they aren't that important.
4) Once you have found and unlocked all four Firsts, as well as the beetle mount now its time to launch your offense and start reclaiming the villages on the map. At this point all of the villages should be occupied by Piglins, but your Firsts should make short work of reclaiming them. Locate a village and send your Firsts in and they should handle most of the mobs. Keep your distance from the larger mobs. Once they flee build a carpentry next to the fountain and you will regain the ability to fast travel and earn lapis from the chests here. I recommend you build the shared chest improvement tower so you only have to visit a single village to claim your resources. Regain all of your villages, plus the zombie, skeleton and creeper villages. These allies are strong but cost a lot of resources to spawn. As long as their villages are saved you can travel to them and recruit the ones standing around without spending any resources. Don't worry about fortifying these villages just yet. If a Piglin launches an invasion at night, ignore it and return in the morning to reclaims your village with just the Firsts. The defenses don't usually hold on their own, and its not worth your time to fight the raiding waves of mobs off yourself when you can easily save the village in the morning.
Feel free to spend the remaining prismarine on improvement towers however you'd like, but first I'd recommend one more tower and thats the cure netherrack tower. This will help with the large Piglin bases. You can also deconstruct towers you may not need for this portion such as ore mining, but I personally didn't need to. There is an achievement that requires you to build one of each tower, but they don't all have to be built at once. Don't remove the Firsts tower as they will deactivate without it.
5) Each faction has a different kind of large base on different kinds or terrain. For the most part we will do the same strategy for each. All we will need are the Firsts and a bunch of cobblestone golems. You can approach these faction bases in any order.
*Please note that I found the bosses to be very buggy. Sometimes the cutscene to trigger the boss did not start when it should have. And often after beating a boss the next event cutscene did not trigger. I closed out of my game immediately and reloaded and luckily the autosave was only a few minutes beforehand.
For the Horde of the Hunt faction, their bases are widespread on mostly flat terrain, with some elevated sections. Pick a side to approach from and build a cobblestone golem spawner outside the base. Send your Firsts and cobblestones to all structures in your path to the nether portal. As the golems are destroying the structures, use your allays to cure the netherrack. This will allow you to build cobblestone spawners along the way. If a large group of Piglins attack your cobblestones feel free to slash them with your sword, while occasionally spawning new golems in to take their place. You will eventually make it to the portal which should be easy to destroy with a clear path made to it. If your Firsts start to fall its probably a good time to teleport back to a fountain to respawn them and regroup. Remember you can use a golem spawner to recall all your units to you quickly in the event you fall back. Once you destroy all the portals in the Horde of the Hunt a cutscene with a boss called The Beast will trigger. This boss is fought at night during a raid on a village, but you can ignore him for now as we continue to take out the other factions and bosses. Just remember to reclaim any lost villages as they will provide a steady flow of lapis to summon new units.
The Horde of the Bastion faction has bases with tall walls. I found this the easiest of the three factions as the walls provide great cover for your units. The bases are big squares that are easy to navigate so simply attack at the front gate and work your way around them destroying all the structures along the way until you reach the center. There was a base in my world that was build ontop of a large mountain without a front gate. There was however a patch of grass inside their base. With your beetle climb up the wall into the base and cure the netherrack around these grassy spots so can recall your units inside and spawn new units. Once all the bases fall the boss will appear in a new base called The Unbreakable. This boss is essentially a nether portal that can attack your units. Chip away at his base until you get to the bridge that leads to center with him. Instead of cobblestone golems its probably good to swap to wooden golems as they do a lot of damage and are cheap. Creepers don't seem to attack him so don't waste your time with them. Zombies are also good to distract him while the wooden golems attack him, but they are costly so the Firsts will do the job. His health doesn't respawn immediately so if you need to fall back and regroup do so, but don't waste too much time because it will start to recover. Eventually he will fall, thus defeating his faction
The third faction is the Horde of the Spore. Their bases are on tall mountains, but mostly unfortified ontop, with few Piglins. Most of these bases will have grassy spots up top where you can cure netherack and build spawners. So scout out the bases for these spots. If you have difficulty climbing with your beetle, look for a flat vertical surface to climb, as you wont be able to climb with blocks above your head. Not all bases had these grassy spots available (completely random. My first run had 3/4 of the Spore bases with buildable patches, while my second playthrough had 1/4) so you may need to build a few ramps to get around but once you get your units up top the portals should fall very quickly. The boss for this factions was a pain in the ass. The Devourer's base didn't seem to have any grassy spots up top so you have to build ramps up to his location and cure the terrain along the way. Unlike the Unbreakable, he will flee after taking damage so you will have to keep building more ramps along the path to the top so your units can move and spawn. Battle wise I'd recommend the same strategy as the Unbreakable by spawning lots of wooden golems while your Firsts hold him off. He himself is not too difficult, the biggest challenge is getting your units up the mountain to fight him.
I recommend fighting The Beast last, but regardless what order you choose, the strategy shouldn't change much. Open up your map and find a village with a red flashing box around it. The Beast will attack this base at night so you need to spend the day fortifying it. If the fountain falls you lose the fight and have to wait an entire in game day to try again. The beast will rush straight for the fountain so you have to block his way. Place carpenter structures all around the fountain to keep repairing it from damage taken. If you collected those giant towers while exploring, now is the time to use them. Place them around next. Then surround large towers with a bunch of cheaper arrow towers. If you start to run out of wood and stone make sure you teleport back to the hub and send your allays right across the river to gather resources. Build a wall around the arrow towers. With the remaining time continue to build additional rings of arrow towers and walls around the village. When The Beast arrives have an army of wooden golems and your Firsts ready. He will probably ignore them and charge through your defenses so make sure you call you units back to you and follow the boss to chip away at his health. Don't worry if you can't defeat him in one night. Your main goal is to ensure the fountain doesn't fall. As long as it doesn't fall, he will return to the same village the next night with the amount of health you left off. If he does destroy your fountain you have to start the fight again at full health. If you are struggling and feel one day isn't enough to prepare you could fortify a non targeted village, as eventually he will make his way over to attack that one.
6) With all 3 bosses defeated you are automatically launched into the end game. The final boss isn't anything too special so there isn't much to say compared to the other bosses. The hard part is making your way up to him to fight him. His base has elements of the Hunt and Bastion horde bases with lots of long range towers and mobs. Be patient and clear a path up to him and like the other bosses use the same strategy to fight him. His area is large so you have plenty of room to build spawners for reinforcements. Once defeated the final cutscene will play and the legendary hero achievement should unlock. You will be able to continue playing to mop up any achievements you missed so don't worry if you missed a few.
Remember there are many ways to approach this game, but these are the strategies that worked for me after struggling for many hours. There are also plenty of tools to use that I didn't discuss such as redstone launchers, but these require a lot of resources to use and in my experience weren't worth the cost when cobblestone golems were so cost effective. Hope this guide helped

That's what I'm saying though, why waste time during phase 3 to scout when you can have all the scouting done during the prologue and focus purely on destroying outposts/bases for resources and immediately setting out to grab "firsts" or power towers without having to spend this time looking for them? Lapis is never an issue in legendary because of the sheer amount of enemy spawns. In fact, resources in general aren't an issue when your main focus during phase 3 is purely sieging enemy outposts/bases.
Also, you dont need to gather much to keep villages safe during phase 3. Spam 10 to 20 arrow towers near the well and it should auto defend strong enemy raids (2 star banner). If you want the game to auto defend mighty raids (3 star banner) then just spam up to or more than 40 arrow towers around and you're golden. I know on paper 40 towers seem a lot, but assuming you kept villages safe this entire time, they will constantly have max capacity wood and stone for you to grab from the chest. Once you spammed enough, you dont even need to show up for the 8 minute defense timer and the village will defend itself come morning. Another big thing about having to run to villages to retake them is that RUNNING to them takes time, as opposed to safe villages where you can instantly fast-travel to corners of the map with ease.
I would love to see a screenshot or a video showing those grassy patches because I've never seen them. I'd be glad to be proven wrong tho because that would help curing bases for set up much easier.
As for the creepers, are you sure you're telling them all to "focus target" the boss? you can't just string them behind you and walk up to the boss for the creepers to auto-seek targets because the AI is a bit janky. But if you hold down the "Y" key (on xbox) while in banner view on the boss, all your army, be it creepers or skeletons or zombies, will focus the target and only the target without fail. And yes they are costly, but super fun seeing a sea of green POP and watching the health bar drop a whole 20%.
Appreciate the guide regardless since it is the first legitimate one and points players in the right general direction, I just think there are some additional tactics that can help out.

The reason we explore after the prologue is so we can earn gold and prismarine from the mini bases while scouting the map. If there are no enemies in the prologue, this is less efficient. You should have no issue with enemies while scouting either as they are easy to run past and avoid. The little ones are also easy to kill with a sword and drop lapis which gives us the means to summon for cobble golems to take out bases and earn resources as well, but you shouldn't need much at this phase as the mini bases fall easily with only a handful of golems. And once you get the beetle you can glide over some of the taller terrain much easier.
Villages we only ignore for phase 3 until we gather what we need to actively hold them in phase 4. Resource management can be tough early game, so we have to explore the map to ensure we find what we need to upgrade and like above without enemies to farm prismarine and gold its a waste of time since we can't get any upgrades without them. Fortifying a village in my opinion is waste of time because they usually fall anyways, so just reclaim after sunrise. Less enemies to fight, and only takes about 30 seconds to reclaim with the Firsts and no additional resources spent vs spending time gathering resources to build up defenses each nigh.
And there absolutely are grassy spots in bases before attacking. Not all had patches I found, but most of the Spore bases had patches which made it very easy for me to climb into a base and place a spawner and get my units up top. Some of the Bastion also had patches of grass as well such as the one that was on top of the tall mountain in my world.
As far as Creepers go I tried them in the Unbreakable and they did not attack him at all. They are costly to spawn and usually die quickly because they like to attack other enemies. The bosses weren't too difficult to destroy with the mobs and strategy I listed.

If you wish to make this a LOT easier for yourself - I would personally recommend playing with friends as the amount of enemies doesn't change- they jus hurt more due to the difficulty. WHY do I say this? Well what me and my Friends did in our world was - get creepers and have 2 people on resource collection (coal) so that me and one other friend could jus run INTO bases and (with 20 creepers) would BOMB the main portals essentially ruin them in one run.
Firstly though we NEED to get to the Creepers, SO use the little cobble stone golems to ruin anything and everything arrow golems are good but 'killing buildings = Win' so our logic was go in and smash them apart for easy gold and Prismarine shards for early upgrades. Do this UNTIL you need to go save the creepers, zombies, skeletons- then make a sprint into those and get creepers! (or all of them it honestly doesn't matter)
Doing this method we ruined all 9 bases within maybe 1 hour MAYBE 2 hours doing this and with our other 2 friends on resource collection- they put towers, towers, towers around each and every base because keeping the bases FILLS every resource including lapis, which is what you NEED to summon your own ads (trust me running out sucks), each time they are ready to be collected.
This helps in the boss fights as they jus TANK and can kill all of your ads with one hit unless its the 'First' golems, speaking of those big hunks of cubage- get them too they're insanely tankie and can honestly help with agro a LOT in those fights making it even easier.
Final boss can be a pain in the backside due to it being SO MUCH SPAM but doing constant creeper bombing runs makes this easy, however have your allies (who are safe getting resources) spawn them in then YOU build one node and force all of the units to spawn on you (saves time and allows for a quick attack then back to dodging) HOWEVER- you will need the netherrack cleaning upgrade so that you can build in the bosses area.
I DID NOT ATTEMEPT THIS SOLO - so I have NO idea how much harder or slower this could be but, in my 4 man team, we did it in 7-8 hours WHILST going for every other Achievement so we did have EVERY UPGRADE so it wasn't like we did this with no upgrades. We where stacked by the Final Boss
This is my first time adding something like this so if I'm missing something or need to explain it more I will happily!

Adding some info about a bug/glitch that my co-op partner and I found when going for this that made it a breeze.
The glitch essentially allows you to duplicate the First's (Big golem guys) as many times as you'd like (In the end we were leading an army of over 100 of them), and demolish bases in seconds, while not needing to worry about spending any resources (they're free!).
The general steps are as follows:
1. Collect all of the Firsts (don't need them all but it's better since you'd be duping one rather than 4 at a time).
2. Make sure you have 2 different locations that you can fast travel to that are decently far apart, and have both you and your friend tp to one of them.
3. Make sure that the Golems are not under your command - or launch them away somewhere
4. You need to fast travel to the other location at the same time as your coop partner (we used a countdown).
5. You should see 8 First's spawn instead of 4, if done correctly.
6. To repeat the dupe, you can repeat 3-5 however instead of sending them all away, use the commander feature to send away 1 of each, so you keep at least one of each attached to you. This must trick the game because when you fast travel again they'll appear, so if you time it right they'll dupe again and you'll have 12 now instead of the initial 4. Rinse and repeat
I recommend banner upgrades so you can carry more of them, as well as iron so you can fill the rest of the army space with healing golems (the marble golem will spawn the other 3 types), as well as allays and storage for all the bridges and defenses later.
Also just wanted to add, my partner and I both got the achievement by making sure that we were both in the lobby before starting the world.
Another note, while I haven't tested it, I'd assume that with 4 players you could dupe 12 of them at a time if done correctly - so that could be an even quicker option if you have more people to do it with.

Is this still working? Would love to try it!

My friend and I can get it to dupe once, so we end up with 8, but we can't get it to do it again.

This is a solution if you are having issues with this achievement popping like I did.
tldr: try switching to the cloud on another device if the achievement isn't popping
Me and 2 friends played a Legendary campaign (not that it matters: I was on Xbox Series S, they were both on Xbox Series X). My friend was the host and we joined after he completed the tutorial (me and the other friend did the tutorial in our own world as well). We then spent the next 4-5 nights playing 3-4 hours/night progressing through the campaign with minor hiccups: Occasionally, one of us would disconnect from the game and rejoin and carry on. Also, of note, sometimes we got a glitch where we couldn't open our map or fast travel anywhere so the host would save and quit and then we would join back up and everything would be fine again. All of the achievements unlocked with no issues until we beat the last boss, The Great Hog.
When we got to The Great Hog, we each had the Legendary Hero achievement as the only locked achievement for the game. We spent a previous night doing the custom campaign achievements in the November Update that got us all the "defeat the boss" achievements. Once the beat the Great Hog in the Legendary playthrough, the host and my other friend unlocked the Legendary Hero achievement but mine did not unlock. After loading in and out of the hosts game a few times to see if it would unlock the achievement, we decided to wait and see if it would unlock later as if there were Xbox Live issues or something.
Once that did not work, we decided to play the Legendary campaign over with me being the host. I started the game and decided that I would only play when my friends were in the lobby prior to me starting the game. We rushed through the campaign as fast as possible. The main issue we ran into in this run was when I would try to Save and Quit the game. Sometimes it would freeze up and not save the game or I would be stuck on a "Your game is being saved. Do not turn off your console" screen. Sometimes I waited 5 minutes and it would finally save, sometimes it wouldn't so I had to close the game and when I reopened it, it would be on a "Loading, please wait" screen for eternity, which I would then need to hard reset my Xbox, start up the game, then it would tell me that my console save and my cloud save are out of sync, even though they had the exact same date and time... I would select the cloud save and then continue the game.
We finally got through my hosted playthrough and beat the Great Hog and to our surprise, no achievement pop...I reverted back to an older save (you can do this in the campaign selection by pressing Y for "Autosaves") and played it again and no pop...
Frustrated and out of ideas, I started to believe my Xbox was the issue so I booted up the game on Xbox Cloud on an old Xbox One (the OG) and played through the boss again and the achievement popped in the background (did not pop on screen).
In conclusion, I am not sure what exactly the issue/s were but hopefully by documenting all this it will help someone that is having similar frustrations.

To complete the campaign on legendary, you need to play through the tutorial, defeat the three Horde bosses, and defeat the final boss in a single world without ever changing your difficulty.
The most helpful tip for doing this whether playing solo, or with friends, is to unlock all of the First Golems in your world immediately. These are super powerful allies, who respawn at your Well for no additional cost when killed or lost. With them on your side and some good tactics, completing the Legendary campaign will be much more manageable.
