How to unlock the Perfect Energy Flux achievement in Moonlighter - Definitive Guide
Conditions
- The boss needs to be defeated without being hit (not just without losing health). Meaning if you have bonuses like shields or extra health, as soon as that goes down, the achievement is void.
- The achievement is missable. You can only fight each boss once per playthrough. If you've already defeated it, you need to start a new game (or continue on into NG+ for a slightly tougher fight)
Preparations
- Get the strongest Sword & shield (and fully upgrade it to make the fight go faster).
- Get to the room before the boss room in the Tech dungeon and warp back home with the Merchant Emblem
- Quit to the main menu, and make a backup of your save in case something goes wrong
- Warp back to the boss room and get ready to fight
Boss breakdown
The fight is fairly safe with the sword and shield. Every phase can be handled pretty much the same way:
- Get in close, and give a good three swipes with the sword (there’s almost always time for at least three)
- Block with your shield. Every attack EXCEPT for when the orb turns pink can be blocked. If the orb turns pink, you’ll need to evade it five times until it rests, then you can get in close (the path it travels is telegraphed by a line of electricity).
- Wait for the attack to finish, then unload with the sword until it teleports.
- Repeat until defeated
A few tips for efficiency:
- If it unloads the area of effect attack, you can walk with your shield up until you’re in a safe zone and start wailing at it.
- If it does the spinning attack, you can get an attack in each spin, but there’s a chance you’ll get hit.
- In general, as long as you’re patient the fight is pretty safe, so there’s little need to optimize. The only “dangerous” attack is when it moves around.
The achievement pops as soon as the boss is defeated.
In case you get hit/die/defeat the boss after taking a hit
Just immediately quit to the main menu and choose "continue". You should start off in bed before going into the warp. But in case something goes wrong, you have the backup save to restore from. Because you did make a backup, right?

Bug reported by Jalgrin:
I got the kill on the boss just as it teleported which bugged it out and froze me in place while the boss continued teleporting around. It also gave me the achievement for beating it but not the one for Perfecting it. I just quit and reloaded the game and made sure to not get the last hit in during a teleport and it popped the second time.
Currently, you can only fight each boss once per playthrough, though they may eventually add a way to resurrect them or perhaps a Boss Rush mode. For each of the "Perfect..." achievements, you need to defeat the boss without taking any damage. Your best bet for this is to ensure you come in with the best weapon possible, and have it enchanted fully. The base damage on weapons will mean a fight needs to last a few minutes, while a fully enchanted weapon can cut that in half or more. You'll still need to fight the boss a few times most likely to get the hang of its attacks, and watch the video below for help.
When going for this, I'd suggest using the Merchant Emblem (see "Going for Supplies...") and if you take damage when fighting the boss, force close your game. When you load back in, you'll wake up in bed but your portal will be active to give it another shot.
**Missable**
The Energy Flux is at the end of the Tech Dungeon on the 3rd floor. To get this, you must avoid taking damage. This is missable, as the boss does not respawn after he is defeated. To make this easier, when you arrive at the entrance to the boss, use your Merchant Emblem and go back to town and sleep or run your shop. This will save the game, so if you mess up during the boss fight, you can exit out and reload your game, and you will start from there to try again.
Like the Desert boss, this one does not have a set pattern, so you will have to be mindful of the hints it gives you on what is coming next. Every time the boss does his attack, he will sit still for a moment for you to attack him before he moves into another spot. The boss has four different moves.
You will have the boss shoot out energy balls that are attached to the beam, which you can dodge through and then continue to hit the boss until it makes it way around again to dodge. It will also shoot out an electrical beam that is rather quick and will sweep across the area, so make sure you are ready to dodge, as there is only a few seconds before you get hit. The boss will also send out a field of electrical current. You can tell he is going to, as you will see electrical current surround the boss. You will want to get in position where there is a gap in the current around the boss. If the boss turns red, then it is about ready to move around the area. It will send a harmless line of current out in the direction a few seconds before it moves, so get out of the way. Continue to hit the boss between his moves until his health is depleted.
The energy flow has 3 attacks (possibly more), between which it will fly from place to place:
A1 . It releases electrical discharges that diverge from the stream towards the combat area - we look at the ball, we see the side from which there is no discharge, and we stand there but a little further away, because the charges move apart in a cone.
A2 . Releases an energy “sleeve” that it spins around itself at a great distance - we somersault through the arc and attack until it stops circling.
A3 . The energy flow gets angry and begins to move chaotically between its points, attacking the player, before “showing” the player where it is going to move - we do not fall under the boss.
A? . Perhaps there are also attacks like “releases charges of electricity around itself,” but I didn’t see them in two playthroughs.
Any weapon + BOW will do, which will have a lot of time to attack during A2 , since you can continue to shoot from a safe distance THE ENTIRE TIME of this attack. In general, it seemed to me that this was the weakest boss in terms of getting the “ideal” trophy; I killed him without getting hit the very first time I met him. Has a HUGE affected area.
