How to unlock the Perfect Golem King achievement in Moonlighter - Definitive Guide

This achievement is easier than it sounds with the right strategy.

Conditions
- The boss needs to be defeated without being hit (not just without losing health). Meaning if you have bonuses like shields or extra health, as soon as that goes down, the achievement is void.
- The achievement is missable. You can only fight each boss once per playthrough. If you've already defeated it, you need to start a new game (or continue on into NG+ for a slightly tougher fight)

Preparations
- Get the strongest Sword & shield AND Big sword (and fully upgrade them to make the fight go faster).
- Get to the room before the boss room in the Golem dungeon and warp back home with the Merchant Emblem
- Quit to the main menu, and make a backup of your save in case something goes wrong
- Warp back to the boss room and get ready to fight

Boss breakdown
The fight has one perilous part for each phase:

- First phase: Start out with the Sword and shield, move in close and start swiping. As the right hand drops, you'll need to dodge (can't block this attack), and then avoid the dropping rocks (telegraphed by shadows) as you continue wailing.
- Second phase: You can get a good amount of swipes in before it shoots its ray. Block the first shot (dodging it requires really good timing), then dodge the next two swipes (they're unblockable) and continue wailing off to the side.
- Third phase: Now switch to the Big sword, and as the hand flies off start charging the special strike (holding cn_X). As the hand is about to drop, unleash the special strike, then charge again and repeat. You're invincible during the special strike animation, and this allows to to deal damage and be defensive at the same time. The hand drop is unblockable anyways, so it would require well timed dodges if not for the Big sword.
- If you've upgraded your weapons, the boss should go down a bit into the third phase.

The achievement pops as soon as the boss is defeated.

In case you get hit/die/defeat the boss after taking a hit
Just immediately quit to the main menu and choose "continue". You should start off in bed before going into the warp. But in case something goes wrong, you have the backup save to restore from. Because you did make a backup, right?

Do this with the Slime pet if you can. Makes this achievement a joke with a fully enchanted weapon.

I can confirm that you can get hit by his shokwave attack and still get the achievement as it don't hurt you but simply pushes you back.

As of March 1st 2020 there’s been some updates to the game that helps makes this achievement even easier to get.

I recommend getting these on your New Game + play thorough as you’ll have access to new special weapons that are as strong as the strongest weapons and they can be enchanted with elemental abilities as well.
Not only that but you’ll have a collection of rings that can help. Specifically you’ll want the green “Wanderer Ring” which adds 5% increased damage to your attacks.

So for this fight I used a NG+ spear with Stun added to it, the Wanderer’s Ring, and I brought the Stun Slime monster with me as it adds the stun ability to your weapons (not 100% sure if it doubles up with an already enchanted weapon but it felt like it did).

So right at the beginning I was able to stun lock the boss until I got him to half of his health. Then after dodging the rock falls and his stretchy arm attack I was able to finish him off before he could repeat anything.

BTW his shockwave doesn’t do damage so don’t worry about getting hit by it.

I recommend opening a portal back to town right outside his door and saving the game from your bed. So if you mess up or need to swap out to a different armor or weapon you can just pause and return to Main Menu (it’s a bit faster than dashboarding).

Good luck!

I've been thinking about whether to go for all these "Perfect" achievements in either New Game+ or just a fresh new game all together. Maybe you saved me the trouble of trying to work it out. So, thanks!

Edit: I’ve had my save corrupted 3 times now so I’m giving up on beating the last two bosses for now.

The only thing I can think of that caused the glitch is that I had a portal open to the last room before the boss fight when I slept in bed to save the game, and then quit to the main menu to make copies.
So make 2 or 3 copies of your save after each boss and 1 before you start the next dungeon level.

**Missable**

The Golem King is at the end of the Golem Dungeon on the 3rd floor. To get this, you must avoid taking damage. This is missable, as the boss does not respawn after he is defeated. To make this easier, when you arrive at the entrance to the boss, use your Merchant Emblem and go back to town and sleep or run your shop. This will save the game, so if you mess up during the boss fight, you can exit out and reload your game, and you will start from there to try again.

He will hit the ground, which will cause boulders to fall. When this happens, you'll see the shadows on the ground where they will land. Simply move out of the way. Then he will aim his jelly arm at you, and shoot it out and sweep it across. You can either roll out of the way when he does this to avoid damage, or just block it with your shield (which doesn't always work). In between each move, he'll emit a wave from his body that will knock you back, don't worry though as it does not cause any damage.

Sometimes a big one eyed blob will spawn after the boulders drop, so be careful of that, as it tends engulf you and keep you in place. Continue to hit him in between his moves and he will eventually be defeated.

There are 4 “Perfect” trophies in total, one for each dungeon (the 5th doesn’t count). In each, you need to kill the boss who is hiding on the third floor without getting hit (including the green “shield”).
I recommend getting an actual weapon (from the dungeon in which the required boss is located), and having reached the door to it, use the EMBLEM (which opens a portal - a more expensive version of the medallion) to return to the city (at the same time we get the Going for Supplies trophy... / Replenish supplies. .. ), and the game will be saved. You can also lower the difficulty to NORMAL before the battle if you play on HIGH or higher.

If we get hit, we just go to the main menu and try again... and so on until it works =)

The Golem King has 3 attacks, between which the Golem will push the player away from itself WITHOUT DAMAGE:
A1. Launches stones, creating “corridors” - we stand where there are no shadows
A2 . Immediately after A1, he launches his hand at the player from the left, and then moves it from side to side - we dodge the first attack, and somersault a couple more times until the hand falls into place.
A3. Launches his hand into the air from the right - when the shadow approaches, you need to dodge or use a power attack (whichever is more convenient for you).

Can be easily defeated with any weapon.
