How to unlock the One for the History Books achievement in NCAA Football 10 - Definitive Guide

This can be done on any difficulty, and though the achievement description says "(excludes co-op)", you unlock this one by playing in a versus game (1 versus 1, rather than 2 versus AI). Changing the sliders does not effect this achievement either, so feel free to change them whichever way you see fit.

You will probably get this achievement just by playing regularly. It was the first game I unlocked. For a game to be designated as an ESPN Instant Classic, the final score must be close. A blowout (for example, a game with a final score of 70-3) will not unlock this achievement.

If you don't unlock it naturally or just want to get it out of the way early, play a close game and try winning in the final minute (the final few seconds would be even better) of the game, or in overtime. It does not matter if the game is low scoring or high scoring, as long as it is close until the end, it should unlock.

You can still lose the game and unlock the achievement, as well. Winning is not necessary for this one.

*Notes: Sometimes what is chosen as an "instant classic" is random, however. If you don't get it the first time, keep trying and you'll get it eventually. If you are convinced it is glitched for you, however, try clearing your cache.

Some users have said that the achievement will not unlock in overtime. I cannot confirm/dismiss this, but if you want to be safe, just make sure the game is not tied by the end of the fourth quarter.

Good luck to everyone going for this one. =)

I can confirm that this achievement can also be unlocked in Road to Glory Mode, as well as Exhibition & Dynasty, so whichever way you start should work out.

just got this achievement a few minutes ago. what i did was setup a game where i was florida and played against oklahoma(cpu). 3 min. quarters on freshman difficulty and i didnt change any of the sliders or turn anything off. they won the toss which i would have let them receive anyway. i let them score a td by calling fg block formation. then when it was my ball i punted the ball away and called fg block again when they had the ball. they were up 13-0 cuz they missed the xtra point. i got the ball back and then turned off the playclock and ran the time down to the end of the first half. i got the kickoff to start the 2nd half and wasted the clock down to under a minute and scored with a few seconds left in the 3rd quarter. i played defense and got the ball back in the 4th quarter and killed the clock until a minute was left and started driving down the field. i ended up scoring with 4 seconds left to tie and the xtra point put me up by one. the cpu then got off 1 play and the game was over. achievement unlocked after the highlights ran.

You have to be involved in a great game. It doesn't matter if you win or lose the game, it just has to come up with a message saying that the game is an Instant Classic. Any game that has OT, a late comeback, or a winning play at the end will likely be given Instant Classic status.
