In Dynasty, convince a homesick player to stay at your school instead of transferring.

How to unlock the Don't Run Home to Mamma achievement in NCAA Football 13 - Definitive Guide

Blade's method posted above does work most of the time, but if you want a definite way to unlock this, check out this little trick below.

First off, start up a Dynasty with ANY team and turn Autosave to OFF. Simulate the season all the way to the "End of Bowl Season" mark. This is the point where you're going to want to save your Dynasty!

Once you've saved your Dynasty, continue simulating until you reach the "Players Leaving" screen. If there aren't any players on your team that are showing up as homesick, hold LT and navigate through the other schools until you find a player that is. Once you've found a player on another team that is homesick, back out and go to the "Coach Info" menu. Click RB to create a coach, then choose the team that you found a player that's homesick. Go back into the Players Leaving menu and try to convince the player that's homesick.

If you can't convince him to stay, search for another team that has a player that's homesick and try with him. If you run out of teams, back out of your Dynasty and reload the save that we made.

Wow, this makes the achievement sound so much easier! I'm going to have to give this a try when I get home!

Only had to reload once. Thanks for the awesome guide! Still wish it wasn't so difficult to convince players to stay. They're all at "very low" chance to persuade.

Has anyone gotten a "very low" to change? None would budge for me, and I got the achv on a "Low"
...I guess you could "cheat" and buy the shortcut to make it easier, but even though it's cheap (140/ 128 with ST), the description didn't sound like it was a sure thing, so this method definitely saved a bunch of time and some msp!

I never got any "Very Low" players to change. Some let me convince them a couple of times, but they still ended up saying "Fuck you, I'm leaving anyway". :(

I just got a 'Very Low' player to stay. I was getting ready to tear my hair out when I was constantly creating new coaches and getting shut down. What I ended up doing was creating a coach for one team (in this case, Boise State) who had a guy that was homesick. I then saved the game and tried to convince him. He shut me down as usual, but all I had to do was quit and reload the save. MUCH faster than creating a new coach. After reloading three times, he randomly accepted and the achievement popped!

This achievement is completely fucked up!!! I have done this shit over 30 times and haven't had anyone stay. They are all very low on the persuade but some i was able to talk to 3 times and nothing!!! This is aggravating as fuck and for only 20gs???

One thing to note, instead of cycling team by team (and taking forever) you can choose "ALL TEAMS" then sort to Freshman, and you can then see every homesick player. I found a team with two, made that coach, then saved/ reloaded those two until it popped (took two tries).

This worked great. I had to reload my save because i tried every homesick player the first time and couldnt get one to stay. Reloaded my save and the first player I tried agreed to stay.

Excellent idea KP ScuzzyBunny about selecting "ALL TEAMS" - saved a lot of time!

Excellent guide! So other people can have an idea of what worked for me:

I got this with a Redshirt Freshman CB (with a Very Low desire to stay), with 3 promise options:
- # of games played
- # of tackles made
- # of interceptions

He said he needed more time to think when I gave him 9 games, and recommitted when I said he'd get 120 tackles.

I swear to god, this achievement is given completely randomly. Great guide though—saved me a ton of reloading time overall!

I bought Coaching Seminar just because I was sick of doing reloads, and I paid nothing for the game, I can't say if it did help because the first player i tried did not stay but the second did.

I am having a very difficult time with this. I have a few questions. First, I randomly picked Louisville as the first team I coached. Do you think picking a higher caliber school such as Bama or USC would help my chances convincing a kid to stay, even though I'd be creating a new coach? So far, this solution hasn't helped me at all, and I've put 3+ hours into trying to convince every homesick kid in NCAA to stay, backing out, and trying again.

+1 for the tips on how to find the homesick players and the trick to adding a coach. That saved a lot of time reloading.

However, this achievement was still awful because it was all luck based. it took me about 15 reloads and i tried about 5 players per reload. That is a lot of time sorting and adding coaches.

Every single player started as very low and only 3 times was a able to get a player to low and 2 times to medium (and 1 time to stay). Towards the end, i targeted players that would give me multiple ways to convince them to stay. For example, i avoid offensive lineman because the only thing you can promise them is games played. Whereas defenisve players, you can offer them games played, tackles and sacks/interceptions. The 3 times i got players to change, they were all defensive players. But this could be purely circumstancial.

Okay, I do not know if there is an exact science to it, but here's what I did, and it worked like a charm:

Before starting a dynasty, go to edit the roster for Hawaii. I made all the starters at each position a "junior." I did bump up the attributes for the QB, RB, and WR to make them more competitive (however, you don't want to max out all the players, you don't want Hawaii to be dominant, just somewhat competitive). For all other players, make them freshman, and change their hometown state to another than Hawaii, if applicable. I put the players in competitive football states, such as Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, etc. Obviously save your roster (that way it will carry over into Dynasty).

Start up a dynasty, adjust sliders in your favor (max user and min AI). Set difficulty level to Freshman (I went ahead and made recruiting Freshman too). ALSO, IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU TURN AUTOSAVE OFF.

Sim your season all the way to end of bowl season (NO FARTHER). Save your dynasty at this point (this is critical).

Now, go ahead and advance to players leaving. At this point, it is where it is not an exact science. However, when I would get to this point, everytime I would see at least one, if not two players wanting to transfer because of being homesick.

Just try to talk the player into saving, obviously choosing the best promises each time. If they agree to stay, the achievement pops. If they don't, or if you do not get any players wanting to transfer for being homesick, then exist dynasty, load it back up (to that end of bowls save point) and try again. It will not bring up the same exact players leaving.

It took me 3 tries of reloading dynasty before I could get player to agree to stay.

Again, this is not an exact science, but it worked perfectly (meaning I at the very least had players wanting to transfer for being homesick) for me.

I tried with TX State doing something very similar (editing everyone to Freshman and out of state) and simmed a few seasons with no luck..Hawaii was my next plan, so I am glad to hear it works!

yeah, I did the same thing with Texas State myself, with no luck. I think one of the key things though, is to make the starters Juniors (if they're already seniors, then there's really no need for player to transfer, as he gonna get the playing time, but if they are juniors, there's the possibility they may not return for senior season - I may have just been over analyzing it, but on my previous tries, I wouldn't get any homesick requests, after I did that, they started popping up like crazy).

Tried it the first time, I think my players were too good. Went 11-2. Why would a freshman transfer from a team that good with returning starters? Dropped the stats, trying again.

yeah, I actually went 11-2 myself and won the bowl, but every time I would reload the end of bowl and progress to players leaving I would have at least one player transferring for homesick, sometimes two!

Sometimes, players will get lonely and want to transfer to a university closer to home. In the Players Leaving screen in the off-season, look for a player that is homesick. Select that player and try convincing him to stay with the options given. If he decides to stay, the trophy will unlock.

See Dual Threat Coach (at the end of the guide) for the best method for obtaining this trophy.

Having the option to convince homesick players seems to be completely random. During your offseason task "Players Leaving", you will notice that some of your players will be transferring, entering the draft or graduating. Select the player that is transferring due to being homesick, then choose a promise that you would like to make to him. If the player is successfully convinced to stay, he will say something along the lines of "I think you're right coach." or "Thanks for changing my mind, coach.". Achievement will unlock after he decides to stay.

Here's a method that will save you A LOT of time, and will ensure you a chance to convince a homesick player:

First off, start up a Dynasty with ANY team and turn Autosave to OFF. Simulate the season all the way to the "End of Bowl Season" mark (NO FURTHER). This is the point where you're going to want to save your Dynasty!

Once you've saved your Dynasty, continue simulating until you reach the "Players Leaving" screen. If there aren't any players on your team that are showing up as homesick, hold  and navigate through the other schools until you find a player that is. Once you've found a player on another team that is homesick, back out and go to the "Coach Info" menu. Click  to create a coach, then choose the team that you found a player that's homesick. Go back into the Players Leaving menu and try to convince the player that's homesick.

If you cannot convince him to stay, search for another team that has a player that's homesick and try with him. If you run out of teams, back out of your Dynasty and reload the save that we made.
