How to unlock the Held The Door achievement in Overwatch 2 - Definitive Guide
Junkenstein's Revenge is a co-op brawl that is a part of the Halloween Terror event. This event happens every October. It's not clear whether or not this achievement will ever be possible outside of the event, which does recur every year.
Hard difficulty can be quite challenging even for seasoned players. The enemy heroes do a very large amount of damage and the enemy minions are relentless. It is substantially more difficult than normal mode, with increased health and damage for all enemies, increased numbers of enemies, and altered spawn timers.
I'll walk you through every step of the way and what you should be doing with each character at any given time. I've also provided a video that you can watch for reference so you can see the strategy in action. The playthrough in the video is fairly clean (other than mediocre McCree play by myself), so it should serve as a good guide.
Heroes
McCree: He will primarily focus on the wall along the left side, where he can see the entire battlefield. He can charge his ultimate in 25-35 seconds. His ultimate does by far the most damage of any of the heroes and so it will be used primarily to kill bosses. You can safely save it for only bosses as it shouldn't be needed otherwise.
Soldier 76: He will focus on the middle. He's very good at cleaning up enemies that slip by and that should be a priority. He can use his ultimate at-will as it takes about 40 seconds to charge up. It's very good for killing Zombardiers, especially when other things are going on. He should also make good use of his to heal allies in need.
Hanzo: He will focus on the right side. His ultimate can be used to minion clear if needed or to damage bosses other than Reaper (who will go immune almost every time). It charges every 30 seconds. Hanzo's headshots will one-shot enemies, so it's important to try to get them. Make sure you have a skilled player on Hanzo, as he's quite poor in the wrong hands.
Ana: She's your healer. Always keep an eye out for allies in need of help. The only person you should ever use your ult on is McCree, and only as mentioned in the guide (you'll use it four or five times). Of course, she is also rotating as a cleanup girl to catch enemies that sneak by.
General Notes
The priority for enemies is almost always minions then heroes. Enemy heroes will die to your ultimates in most instances. Regular shots should only be used if there is no other viable target or if they are on the edge of death. Shooting minions will clear them out while recharging your ultimates, which should keep everything clean and easy to manage.
When fighting enemy heroes, you want to keep your distance. Roadhog and Reaper do very little damage if you're far away. Be communicative with your team. Your Ana should be constantly sleeping enemies so that you can run away to safety and avoid death.
Zombardiers are awful. They can do a ton of damage and are hard to handle in groups. They are a very high priority whenever you see them. They can three shot any of the heroes.
Communicate with your team. Call out Junkrat tires' locations. Call out when you need healing. Call out when enemy heroes are about to spawn. A team that communicates will do much better.
Spawn Timers
Enemies spawn constantly on general timers. Junkrat tires also spawn consistently at certain times. However, please note that enemy spawn location is generally consistent, but occasionally changes. I'm not sure why this is. So you can always work on the assumption that enemies will spawn at certain place at a certain time, but always be cautious just in case it's different. Call out the Junkrat tires. This does not apply to enemy heroes.
The Walkthrough
Here is what you should be doing at given times. Some improvisation may be required. If someone dies, don't give up immediately. It's definitely possible to win with just a sliver of health and everyone dead but your Ana. Keep trying. That said, if you can execute the below perfectly, you'll get through smoothly and get your achievement faster.
Remember: Do not attack enemy heroes with regular shots. Ana should constantly be sleeping them. Damage breaks the sleep. So don't attack them. Use ultimates to kill them.
• 7:00 - Match begins. There will be three waves that everyone can kill together. Then move to your starting spots. McCree on the left wall, Soldier in the middle, Hanzo on the right, and Ana rotating as needed.
• 5:45 and 5:30 - Junkrat tires.
• 5:00 - Prepare for Reaper, who will spawn at 4:45. McCree should ult the foot of the bridge near the door as soon as Reaper's body is visible in his teleport. Ana should Sleep Dart Reaper immediately and then turn to Nano Boost McCree. If done quickly, McCree will get enough of a damage boost to one-shot Reaper. Otherwise, McCree should fire his ult the second Reaper starts getting up to make sure Reaper does not use his immunity. The team can finish off Reaper quickly if this happens.
• 3:55, 3:40 and 3:25 - Junkrat tires.
• 3:00 - Prepare for Roadhog. Everyone will rotate. Soldier goes to left wall, Hanzo to middle, and McCree up the stairs on the right side. Ana should go with McCree so that she can ult him immediately when needed.
• 2:45 - Roadhog spawns. His movement is erratic here. If he runs toward McCree or down the middle, use McCree and Ana's ult immediately. If he runs toward the wall, he will run behind a box so wait until he gets past that to ult. As soon as Ana ults, she should sprint toward Roadhog and Sleep Dart him. As soon as he's asleep, Hanzo can fire off his ultimate as well. Ana should watch and throw her anti-heal whenever Roadhog tries to heal (which will be right when he stands up from sleep after McCree's ultimate). Soldier can finish Roadhog off with his and the team can assist as needed as he should be very close to death. Keep your distance from Roadhog as a top priority. It can be tempting to move in, but he does a ton of damage so stay away. It's important to get him down very quickly - ideally within about 15 seconds. This is possible.
• 2:25 - Junkrat tires from left and right. Try to get these, but don't die to get them. If you've not been doing well you can afford to have both hit if you absolutely have to. This will likely be the case if you've had a messy run and Roadhog is still alive.
• 2:00 - Rotate all heroes back to their starting positions. McCree and Ana should make sure to have ultimates.
• 1:45 - Junkrat spawns. Keep moving to avoid his grenades. Hanzo and Soldier can ult. McCree should wait.
• 1:35 - Reaper spawns. McCree should stand in the middle of the stairs leading up to the wall so that he can ult both Junkrat and Reaper at the same time. Ana should ult McCree and then turn and Sleep Dart Reaper. She'll need to be very fast. Hanzo and Soldier can finish off Reaper if needed and McCree can run up the side of the wall and finish off Junkrat if needed. If everything is done properly, McCree's ult should kill both.
• 0:50 - Junkrat tires from left and right.
• 0:35 - Reaper spawns. This is the final Reaper. McCree should ult alone (Ana should not, nor should Hanzo and Soldier). Ana should Sleep Dart Reaper as normal. McCree's ult should leave Reaper with a sliver of health, which the team can then finish off.
• 0:28 - McCree should focus 100% on getting his ultimate back. He will need to be fast. No one else should kill any enemies (except Reaper). There are very few at this point, so McCree can handle them himself and will need to to get his ultimate in time.
• 0:05 - McCree should move back to the middle by the door. This is the best vantage point.
• 0:00 - Mercy spawns. She will resurrect Junkrat and Roadhog. Hanzo and Soldier should ult Junkrat. McCree and Ana should ult together. Ana should immediately move forward and Sleep Dart Roadhog. After the ultimates finish, Junkrat should be dead, Mercy should have a sliver of health, and Roadhog should be full HP (Mercy will heal him). Now you run. Run away from Roadhog. McCree should move back to his wall where Roadhog probably will not get him and snipe enemies to generate ultimate. The other three should simply keep running from Roadhog. You can finish off Mercy if you want, but it's generally pointless (McCree's ultimate will kill her). Priority number one is the enemy minions. Kill them. They will cause you to lose. Once you get used to it, it's easy to avoid Roadhog. McCree and Hanzo should ult as soon as they get it. If McCree gets his ult and Ana is close to hers, he should wait for her. Soldier's ult should be used to clear minions. Ana should make sure to constantly Sleep Dart Roadhog.
Here is a video of all of this in action. Our playthrough is pretty by the books, so it should be helpful. The timestamps above roughly match the above.
Finally, thanks to my teammates https://www.trueachievements.com/Moat+Carp.htm, ParticleDuality, and BaronVoNewman. They helped develop this. Thanks also to https://www.trueachievements.com/Cower+Before+me.htm.

Additionally, I'll note that this same strategy is very effective for getting the no damage on normal achievement. You can follow it step by step. If you can beat this on hard, normal will feel like a complete joke.

For roadhog, my group ended up using Ana to sleep him immediately upon spawning, then ulting on McCree, who was positioned on top of the left staircase. McCree then Ulted on the sleeped roadhog, and immediately jumped off of that ledge and flashbang stunned roadhog. At the same time he was doing that, Hanzo shoots his Ult at roadhog and gets good damage in. Also at the same time, Ana uses Biotic Grenade on Roadhog to prevent any healing/does a little extra damage.
Seems like a lot, but it all happens in a matter of seconds and Roadhog dies basically immediately. Then have McCree, Ana and Hanzo get their Ults back on adds. Once Junkenstein spawns, Hanzo ults on him (as said in the guide). And 5 seconds later when Reaper spawns, Ana sleeps Reaper, Ults on McCree, then McCree Ults on Junkenstein and Reaper. They both die. Then off to the races for the final stage.
Edit to clarify: Ana was literally on the bridge in front of Roadhog when he spawns so she could sleep him immediately in place. Then looked to the top left and Ulted on McCree. You cannot let Roadhog even start moving, because once he starts moving, it can mess up a whole run since he runs randomly i.e. if he runs and line of sights McCree's ultimate, it's basically a wipe, or if he runs and misses Hanzo's Ult because McCree doesn't get a flash bang on him, it can throw off the rhythm for getting him down in time to get ready for the next wave of bosses.

Just some additional information for the solo players out there.
If you're like me - and you don't have anyone to group up with & don't really like talking to people.
This is completely possible to do with randoms.. as long as you play as McCree.
McCree is the most important player on your team.
Follow Eurydace's video and have a good idea of the spawn times. Kill enemies along the left , always be aware of the rip-tires and help the others kill the Zomnics in the middle whenever you can.
When the bosses show up - you do not need a Nano boost from Ana. High Noon will one shot the Reapers and will take away half of the health of the Monster, Witch and Junkenstein. Just remember to let the timer go down to the last second and/or the red skull appears. Do not stand still when you're using it, keep moving, worst case scenario would be you dying while using your ultimate on the boss fight.
I've noticed from my previous failed attempts that the person who was playing McCree didn't use his ult. at the right time and was running around the map... so we just got overrun with Zomnics & the bosses killed us off. Which is why I say pick McCree, if you can.
I've also noticed that this is a lot harder/seemingly impossible to do if you're a lower level - chances are you're going to get grouped up with people who don't know how to play the characters they picked. So I don't recommend doing this with randoms if you're under 50, unless you have at least a friend or 2 with you. If that's the case... Pick McCree and have your friend pick Hanzo or Ana. Leave Soilder for the other player, because he's an easy character to play as and he can go crazy with his ultimate without dooming your team.
Victory is not guaranteed with randoms. This may take multiple attempts, but it's very possible to do this without grouping up/no communication.
I was level 124 when I got this. I got grouped up with other players within the 100-200 level range. Played McCree. Didn't get nano-boosted. Died twice, but finished with the door health at 50%.

This achievement is worlds easier now that they allow you to use other characters besides McCree, Soldier, Hanzo, and Ana. My team used Zenyatta, Torbjorn, Brigitte, and McCree. Having two characters to stun was huge. Zenyatta being able to discord is a must in my opinion and Torbjorn having a constant fire from his turret is huge too. Our Torb got his turret placed up near the castle door on the wood ledge so no enemy could destroy it. Everything that was tough before was super easy with this team. The last part we finally had some deaths but all in all because of the characters we used, we were able to maintain and prevent losing. Save Transcendence for the last part as well when things get dicey unless a reaper is about to kill you. Zen gets his ult fast if you are good with him.
Also, keep in mind Symmetra doesn't have the Shield Generator anymore. She puts up the big shield of hers now. Don't chase the rip tires. let them pass her big shield first and then discord the tire and shoot it. You should have enough time to kill it before it hits the door. I recommend just letting the Zombies explode on the door while you fight the bosses at the end part because since it's easier now, you don't have to focus on them so much.

Oh man. I’ve had this done for a while, but was curious to see if anyone gave an updated guide. Totally didn’t think as someone who plays Torb could throw the turret up on those ledges now!
I’ll give you a +1 just for that.

Haha yea man...it’s so easy now. Thank god Blizzard added more characters for this.

I wanted to give an alternative to the solution provided by PikaPuffs. I also prefer playing solo or with my very noncompetitive friends, so getting this achievement was pretty difficult. But if you aren't much of a McCree fan, there's another solution:
Ana.
I've found that it's easier to find a good McCree than a good Ana in this mode. Most Ana players seem to focus on her offense rather than her healing, and thus teammates die at inopportune times and the whole team wipes as a result. I started to play exclusively Ana in hard mode and finally got the achievement by focusing on three specific things:
1) Offensively, only shoot at Zombardiers and tires. Of course it goes against your natural FPS instincts to kill everything in front of you, but in my games with randoms, Zombardiers are almost always the reason things go to s***. Simple Zomnics should be handled by everyone else. Don't even bother with them. Save your ammo and only reload when there aren't any Zombardiers onscreen.
2) Keep a constant watch on teammates' health in the top left corner. Staying alive is so important in this mode, and you need to preemptively heal, rather than waiting for someone to show up as critical on your screen. Don't get distracted by killing stuff. All three of the other characters can do that better than you can, so make sure they can keep doing their thing uninterrupted. (It's also best if you stay on the platform to the right so you have a clear line of sight on your teammates.)
3) Above all else, when it's boss time, keep your McCree alive. He's your most important offensive weapon. When a boss spawns, keep your focus on McCree or Zombadiers near McCree. Don't even bother doing damage on the boss itself. Use a sleep dart, ult McCree, then heal the s*** out of him until that boss is dead. I don't remember ever surviving a boss round where McCree died in the middle of his ult.
When you find a group who more or less knows what they're doing-- i.e. not shooting a sleeping boss or using DeadEye on anything other than a boss-- playing Ana well can assure that everything goes smoothly. I felt like I was getting better results picking her and focusing on these three things, as opposed to picking McCree and hoping my Ana would keep me alive.
Best of luck!
Ana.

If you're planning to get this achievement in 2018 then you're in luck. Now more characters have been added to this game mode both Junkenstein's Revenge And Endless. The best characters in my opinion are McCree, Torb, Zenyatta, And Hanzo (Or Soldier:76) Hanzo Should Focus on the left side while McCree Does the same on the bridge. Zenyatta Stays In front of the door just in case there were tires coming and Taking out the Zombardiers (they're the ones that shoot projectiles) As for Torb he can place the turret on the ledge just next to the Door. Or he can throw the turret on the wooden platform on the top of the door.
Whenever McCree needs to use his ult he can go to the ledge next to the door so that he doesn't get hooked by Roadhog.
I can confirm that I got all Junkenstein's revenge achievements just by using this Strategy. Good Luck!

Things to note:
- The timers are the same no matter the difficulty selected. The Summoner spawns in the final wave on Legendary.
- The time given is when the audio cue is initiated. There may be a few seconds before the enemy is fully spawned and able to be damaged.
- For the random tire spawns, listen for the call-outs by the heroes. They will say "ramparts" or "left" for a left spawn, "center" "right at you" or "bridge" for a center spawn, or "right" for the right spawn.
