How to unlock the The Strong, Silent Type achievement in Oxenfree - Definitive Guide
What does that mean? This means you have to keep your fingers off the , , buttons. But keep in mind that there are some exceptions, so don't panic if your character talks sometimes.
- Some interactions with objects make Alex talk automatically, for example, opening some doors, using the radio transmitters or pushing the dumpster at the beginning. This is ok, the button talking won't void the achievement.
- You can interact with optional objects with , which will also trigger automatic dialogue (I did it a couple of times during my playthrough, and got the achievement anyways), but I recommend to go for this achievement once you have completed the game once or twice, that way you'll know what to do and will be able to just only interact using with the objects needed to progress.
- Also, DugFreez has confirmed in another solution that there's an unavoidable dialog option at the end, when you have to pick Alex's future: "The game shows a final still picture and you have 3 dialog choices using the X, Y, and B buttons. I tried to wait it out, but you can not. At this point you have to press X, Y or B. Thankfully the achievement still unlocks...so that last use of X, Y or B does not count against the achievement".
So, the main rule is NEVER use , or dialog options. If, for some reason, you get distracted and talk, dashboard, press menu and exit the game. The game only saves when you enter an area, and probably pausing and going to the main menu would be enough, but do it this way, just in case.
Also, not talking in the entire playthrough will grant you the following achievements, if you don't have them already (thanks again DugFreez for the confirmation):

The only exception is the very last dialogue option during the Epilogue of the game. A photograph of the surviving friends will fill the screen and a voiceover will explain what happened to each character. At this point, you MUST select a dialogue option to end the game and roll credits.
The description for this is a bit misleading, as Alex will often speak no matter what you do. The real trick is to just make sure you never select a dialogue bubble with , , or . Ignore all these bubbles and let them disappear. So long as the only button you press during the entire game is , you will unlock the achievement. As I mentioned before, you'll talk often when pressing , but these dialogue lines do not affect the achievement.
Note: There is ONE unavoidable scene where you are required to use , , or ; right at the end of the game, the very last choice you can make about what you chose to do after the adventure.
This trophy description can initially be confusing, because Alex will often speak. What the trophy means is not to pick any of the dialogue options that pop up to give Alex the option to speak. Basically: go through the entire game only using .
At the very end of the game, during the epilogue photograph, you will have to choose one of the dialogue options. This will not void the trophy, and should be the only time you press or .
