How to unlock the Becoming Monstrous achievement in PAYDAY 2: CRIMEWAVE EDITION - Definitive Guide

By far the fastest method to farm infamy ranks is to use the crime spree exploit. This method will get you one infamy rank in about 1.5-2 hours depending on your loading times. It's still a grind, but way faster than anything in the other solutions. This method can only be done solo. Here's what to do

1. Got to Crimenet offline and start a crime spree
2. Pick the heist with the highest number, I only ever did anything above 12 (15 is highest). Reroll if you must
3. Make sure you have right heist selected and hover over the "Start the heist"
4. Sign out of Xbox live and sign back in
5. Go to Crimenet offline again and load up Ukrainian job on normal, bring shaped charges (Yakuza perk decks gives you speed as well but it doesnt matter too much, you'll get this done in about 40 seconds regardless)
6. Run to the back rooms, blow up the safes, grab the tiara and escape
7. After the heist you'll notice you got credit for your crime spree. Pick your modifiers, select the highest numbered heist and while hovering over "Start the heist", sign back out again.
8. Repeat steps 5-7 until you reach 23,336,413xp as spree rewards. Usually for me this was when my crime spree hit around 500. You can check your rewards after every heist. Once you hit this, go back to your crime spree and hit "Claim rewards" and enjoy going from 0 to 100 in 2 seconds. If you're not level 0 the first time aroud, use this experience table to see how much you need https://payday.fandom.com/wiki/Reputation_(Payday_2)/Experience_table

Essentially what you're doing is tricking the game into thinking you're running the hard crime spree heist and getting rewards accordingly. In the beginning you'll get around 300k xp per run, but later you can get up to 1,6 million xp per run. The xp penalty does not matter here, because the xp you get come out of the increasing spree.

You might have to do some lower tier heists in the beginning, if you don't have enough continental coins to keep rerolling. Fortunately you'll get them as rewards as well so after your first spree you should be good.

Note that you can "bank" your spree as it does not get affected by resetting infamy ranks. I always had a level 100 character. When my rewards were high enough, I would reset my infamy rank and immediately go claim my rewards. This way you can go for other things between xp grinding and you don't have to worry about your level.

If you mess up and accidentally start the actual crime spree heist, just quit out of the game and pay the continental coins to resume your spree. Signing out of the game while in the loading screen might save your spree however. It is not worth paying coins to continue your spree after you've claimed your spree. The reward multiplier gets reset regardless so even though your spree gets higher, the rewards are the same as if you started from 0.

Happy grinding :)

Wow. This method makes a grindy achievement a much less painful grind lol. I went to Infamy 25 when there were no coins or sprees, so this would have been a game changer for me. Great guide, +1 from me.

It only bloody works! Thanks! I'm infamy 20 now (which were a bloody grind!) but this will make the last 5 levels bearable! Thank you again for this method! +1(million) if I could!
Doubt this will ever get patched anyway as the game is dead to the devs on console 😅

Seriously excellent guide! One thing to add, occasionally my game will crash on signing out. No progress in the crime spree is lost but you do have to start again from step 1 in order to keep progressing your spree.

Checking as of 8/20/23 and I can confirm that this is working via crime.net offline mode. The game is tracking my Crime Spree and I continue to boot Ukrainian Job on Normal following the sign-out/sign-in trick. One thing to note though as repetition can lead to missing steps: don't forget that because the game thinks you're actually doing a Crime Spree session, that you do the "Select Modifier" option when it prompts after a job. Only then will you get the "Start the Heist" option that you're rinsing/repeating on Step #3 of the guide.

Welcome to Crime Spree Boosting

I do not know why this strat has not been talked about on this forum as I thought it was pretty common knowledge and is way faster than the offline sign out exploit, but much more skill intensive.

The only downside is you will need to find someone in the payday 2 community that has a crimewave over 24 thousand, but if you do find them then you will hit infamy 25 in 4 hours at most if you are starting from non infamy levels.
This is because of the catchup bonus. If you complete a single mission with a insane high Crime spree player as host you will get a catchup bonus and it will give you way above 23.3 million XP. I was getting 110 million per mission

You will start a fresh crime spree and join the high crime spree players lobby. They will select a mission they are comfortable with doing as crime sprees get ridiculously difficult at that high of a score. The crew I was with would only do Airport, Bank heist, and FBI office. Each mission had an exploit to make easier and avoid enemies which I will list below.
They get difficult because every 50 crime spree enemies get a health and damage buff so at an extreme crime spree they can practically become unkillable and one shot players.

Now you can not be a burden on the team you have to help them due to the difficulty of high crime spree it makes it difficult to be carried especially if it is only one player that knows what they are doing. I Highly recommend 6 items. The Inspire skill, Joker skill, maxed out doctor bags, a saw primary, a Grimm shotgun with fire rounds, and the anarchist perk deck (wear a suit for armor).

-Joker friendlies are still very hard to kill for enemy AI and are an amazing distraction
-due to enemy health being insanely high the best thing to do is stun them with fire rounds on the Grimm (it is also amazing for normal play if you have not used it there)
-Your crew will go down a lot so inspire makes it way easier to save them
- anarchist makes it wear you can actually get hit and be alive
- Doctor bags keep you in the fight longer don't be afraid to use it before grey screen
You should also buy the continental boost one more down and if you want you can have another player buy one more equipment.

Ok I know that is a lot but setup is important. Bad setup = consistent failure

As said previous we used only three missions and they would reroll until got one of the three
Airport- AKA day 1 of Firestarter- if you can jump over the fence without ever cutting it open you get like a 5-6 minute window of no cops showing up after the assault wave starts. The gangsters will still be there and they hit hard but when the assault wave starts they tend to retreat out of the map as the cops are suppose to take there space. There should be enough time for you to turn in all of the necessary guns to leave. The jump over the fence can be a pain and the host is the only one that needs to do it. When they do it the other players can leave, restart their crime spree, and join back. They will spawn on the host on the other side of the fence
Bank Heist- This one requires the most skill but is possible. One player should try and get in the walls with the roof exploit glitch. Pros- when they are in the walls they are unkillable and they can still inspire down players, con- they can not fix the drill. The players outside must survive the drill timer so they can be the one to fix it, Drill skills are very important for this one. when the vault opens the player in the wall can get out of the glitch grab one bag and book it to the van.
FBI Offices- AKA day 2 of Firestarter. Stealth the mission if you can but remember that stealth modifiers in crime wave are dumb and make stealth almost impossible in the game. When you do go loud find the server room and open both doors with the saw and get the drill down on the shutter gate. Simple exploit here but has a chance for rng to be against your crew. the managers office is located on the second floor on the side of the building where the van is closest next to one of the two staircases in the office area. If the wood door is shut leading into it is closed you are basically home free, as you can just jump through the windows on the side of the managers office and the enemies have no pathing to get to you as long as that door stays shut. The best part is that the enemies tend to pile up downstairs so you can quickly go and fix the drill and make it back relatively safe unless you get the downstairs spawn, but I had no trouble with that either. When the drill is done take the server back to the van for mission complete.

Sorry for the over explanation of everything, this strategy is way quicker but, way more difficult to pull off so more details are to be shared. I went from infamy 14 to 25 in 2 hours and we had a few bumps in the road from time to time, but if I was doing the other strat I would only be infamy 15 in the same amount of time.

Now your Crime spree host may have different missions they want to do or a different build they want you to run. Do not be apposed to what they want as they have a ton of experience and just want to get you on the same page as them. I have just given my experience here.

I will say it can be hard to find a player that has grinded to such a high crime spree. Most achievement hunters for this game probably have never even wanted to grind that high before. I have found that Payday 2 has a pretty niche community of people that like seeing their crime spree number be as high as possible. I would recommend using the Xbox Looking for group system. I found one guy that was personally willing to help, but he took a while to be ready to help me. For the crew I actually worked with I just loaded up crime.net with an active Crime spree and pressed cn_Y to search for a job and clicked "any heist" when you find a job it will say "difficulty X" X= crime spree level. when you have one super high join it and as quickly as possible get the host gamertag and send them a message asking if you can join them. They will most likely kick you but may be ok if you can convince them that you have some knowledge on what you are getting into.

If you downvote please give an explanation in the comments I am still pretty new to writing guides and only do it when I have knowledge of the topic that has not been shared.

Going from 0-100 in Payday 2 will take 23,336,413 EXP. Getting this amount of XP 25 times is a whopping 583,410,325 EXP to be earned in order for you to get this trophy. There are many ways to go about getting XP and leveling up. Below I've broken down some of the best tips and advice to use while grinding out this monstrous trophy.

First Five Levels of Infamy

Each time you reach level 100 and hit the "Become Infamous" button you will need to have $200,000,000 in your offshore account until you reach Infamy level 5. This is a lot of money and on average if you don't buy the contracts yourself you'll have around $150 million by the time you reach level 100. Offshore cash can only be spent two ways and that's from buying the contracts and betting for masks, materials etc. So do not do this often as you'll just increase your time and have to play more heists. Below are the best heists to play for Cash and the difficulty to do them on. Also, let it be noted that some of these heists will require you to secure more loot to get a high reward. You cannot sure three bags of loot to complete the objective but leave everything else and expect a huge payout. Secure it all!

Infamy Bonus

You may have noticed there is an Infamy Skill Tree and you will get one infamy skill point each time you go infamy. There are Masks and the XP Increase rewards. I suggest getting the 10% XP increase instead of the mask rewards first to get more XP at the end of the heists. These are very important because after a while you will be getting half a million XP just in your Infamy Bonus.

Stealth XP Bonuses

When Completing any heist in stealth you will get yourself a Stealth XP Bonus of anywhere between 5% - 25% depending on the heist you completed. These help a lot for increasing the amount of XP you will get during your next heist. I suggest you complete any of the heists from the list below to get a high stealth bonus then do a loud heist with a large XP reward to max out the XP you gain. Keep in mind if you fail the heist that you applied your stealth bonus to, you will lose it. Also the difficulty you complete these stealth heists on doesn't affect the bonus you'll get. Securing as much loot as you can will increase xp and money in the end.

25% XP Bonus - Framing Frame
20% XP Bonus - Election Day
20% XP Bonus - The Bomb: Dockyard
5% XP Bonus - Bank Heist
5% XP Bonus - Ukrainian Job

Offshore Money & Experience

There are obviously loads of ways to get yourself some money, we are playing Payday 2 aren't we? However, some of these methods are a lot, and I mean a lot faster than just playing random heists. Offshore Cash is important here only during the first five levels of infamy. Any heist in the game will give you a decent amount of offshore money, however the ones below will on average get you $10 million plus if completed on Overkill difficulty or Higher. These are also some of the best heists in the game for xp. The XP that you will be getting from these heists varies greatly on your Infamy Level and the amount of player in your lobby.

This is a rough estimate of what you will be receiving in Offshore cash after completing one of these heists. Keep in mind that some of these require you to secure all the loot in order for you to get these huge cash rewards.

Hoxton Breakout - $12,500,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Hotline Miami - $14,000,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Goat Simulator - $13,500,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Aftershock - $10,000,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Slaughterhouse - $8,500,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Firestarter - $14,500,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Rats - $13,500,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Biker Heist - $12,500,000
Mayhem Difficulty

Birth of Sky - $8,500,000
Mayhem Difficulty

These next heists are considered "never ending" because you and your crew can cook meth, make presents, or print money until you're ready to leave. There are three of these types of heist within Payday 2 and the amount of money you make will be on you!

Cook Off - Unlimited Money & XP Overkill Difficulty or Higher

Santa's Workshop - Unlimited Money & XP Overkill Difficulty or Higher

Counterfeit - Unlimited Money & XP Overkill Difficulty or Higher

Big Thanks to B33croft for the awesome video! If you still would like some more information on getting XP and Money quickly this is a great visual reference!

Glitches

I wasn't going to include this then I figured if you would like to use it to gain this trophy then so be it! Payday 2 always seems to have a few glitches in the game so players can take advantage and rank up or get money quickly. Below I've left a few links of working glitches on Payday 2 to get you through some really difficult heists on One Down difficulty without any issues. There aren't currently many glitches in the game after the new update. The three that we are left with are below.

Cook Off - No Cops Spawn - One Down Difficulty By Ethan 355

Framing Frame - Fully Dominate Day 3 By NanookMetaal

The Big Bank Stealth - Glitched Way By NanookMetaal

I strongly recommend that you dump your saves to the cloud after each game. The game is terrible, not stable and application errors happen every day, for me personally, often. And at one point, if this happens while saving, like I did yesterday, you will lose all your progress. It’s good that I recently threw the save into storage, a friend recommended it. So I lost only 2 prestige, and if it weren’t for his advice, all 14 would have had to be downloaded again, it would have been very painful. So be sure to make backups.

There are people in the game who have a crime streak of 300k. If you play one match with them, you are guaranteed to get around 10-12k series of crimes, which in turn gives you a billion experience. In this way you can fill 25 info in less than 3 hours. Also keep in mind that if you play one match with them, then in the future you can create a match yourself with a 10k crime streak. However, you will not receive a reward after one match, but the people who will play with you will.
You can easily start a boost together if both can create a series of 10k or more.

Today, with patch 1.53, there is a glitch with which you can get all 25 prestige, billions of dollars, coins, modules, masks and just everything that is in the game in 35-40 hours. To do this, you prefer a WIFI connection (with cable I personally always got an error) and watch the Video and repeat. And now, point by point, those who don’t understand:

To open the "Robbery Series" you need at least lvl 60
1) Go to Crime Net
2) Select a Series of Robberies
3) We agree to everything, and move the slider to the robbery with the highest number (you can also press the “change” button for 6 continental coins to get an even higher number)
4) Press PS, go to settings, Network and quickly remove/check the Internet box and return to the game (to quickly get into the settings, just press the PS button twice (returns to the last open tab)
5) It gives us a network error and throws us into the main menu, click OK and go to Crime Net Offline
6) Go to the Heists tab, Vlad and select “Ukrainian Case” on Normal and launch (Before this whole case, put C4 charges in your equipment so that you can blow up two safes and quickly escape (hello to the trophy in 35 seconds))
7) After the robbery is over, press the touchpad and “Exit to the Lobby” (in the video the guy presses interrupt the series, but exiting to the lobby is faster)
8) And we repeat the same thing from points 3-7 and so on until you reach somewhere around the 520th episode and 23.300 million experience (100 lvl) and ONLY after that we take the reward.

On average, one prestige takes 1.5 hours, on PS5 without downloads it will be even faster.

Advice: you will have a LOT of blue screens while you replay this mission a total of 600 times (Hello level grind from Max Payne 3), so after each prestige received, throw the save into the cloud/flash drive, because the data may fly away. Also, you can always keep the accumulated reward with you, so take it when you reset your lvl 100 so as not to run around with your bare ass.

At the moment, as of patch 1.05, the best “honest” maps for farming XP and $ offshore are Bain: Cook Off and Vlad: Santa's Workshop .

On the Cook Off map you need to cook amphetamine. On OVERKILL difficulty, they give $1,350,000 offshore for one bag. For 30 minutes of cooking you can earn about $15,000,000 offshore and about 2,000,000 XP. It is recommended to play in a closed lobby alone or with friends. Random players can quickly and easily burn down a laboratory if they throw in the wrong chemical.

On the Santa's Workshop map you have to force the "elves" to wrap gifts with drugs of varying degrees of severity. On OVERKILL difficulty they give $300,000 offshore for one bag. In 30 minutes of play you can earn $12,000,000 offshore and about 2,000,000 XP. You can play with friends + leftists. You can ruin the game if all the players go to jail. The only advice is to create a personal lobby, because the connection with the host may be lost, or you may simply get kicked after 40 minutes of playing.

A good example of farming XP and $ on the Cook Off map.

A clear example of farming XP and $ on the Santa's Workshop map.
