How to unlock the Trials and Some Tribulations achievement in Peggle 2 - Definitive Guide
TRIAL 1, Dark World: This is sort of a strange first trial, because it’s far more work than any of the rest. Since you have Nightshade on at all times, there’s a simple way to do this. Get your multiplier up decently by clearing a bunch of orange pegs. Then, once it’s at, say, 5x, just shoot straight down the middle, and land the ball in the cup every time. You’ll rack up a bunch of points. Just keep doing this for a while. I’m sure there are faster ways to do it, but this was an easy way and how I did it.
TRIAL 2, Deeper Shade: Another strange-ish one. What’s going on, weird little skeleton ghost girl? This level’s not too bad if you’re good at aiming balls so they bounce off a peg and go straight in the cup. That’s an important skill to master to do well at the game, and it’ll suit you well here. Once you start clearing a bunch of orange pegs and building your multiplier, getting extra balls will be easy. Starting with six is more than enough. Aim for oranges and don’t worry about anything else.
TRIAL 3, Leap of Life: Sort of trial and error here. Aim at either orange peg and try to re-direct it to hit the other. You’re looking for more of a straight line here, rather than an arcing shot. I thought at first to just ignore the blue pegs. Don’t. Get the ball to travel on that path, and it’ll be a (relatively) easy clear.
UPDATE from DJSHYNE21: "It's easier doing this trial by bouncing off of the orange peg on the right side of the screen. I was trying to do it from left to right for about 15 mins before I tried it from right to left. When I went from the right orange peg to the left orange peg I was able to do it on my first try." So there you go!
TRIAL 4, Armor Mysterious: I don’t like this level. You’re supposed to avoid the blue shielded pegs by using the green pegs at the top. It’s a lot of luck, and you need lucky bounces. Play it normally. When I cleared it, I had a few quads of orange pegs real near each other, and got a few good bounces around those. I saved the green pegs to get some late-round orange pegs cleared when there were only a handful left.
TRIAL 5, Orange Shroud: You can clear this level very easily if you get a few lucky bounces with Gnorman’s Uber Volt. (Oh, yeah, pick Gnorman.) If you’re able to get the ball to bounce around in the vertical strips of rectangular blocks on the right-hand side of the screen, you can clear out a ton of pegs. Alternatively, you can clear out the shielded pegs with a single hit with Uber Volt, getting rid of a real pain. When I cleared the trial, I did one of each. If you’re able to get one or the other, you should be able to clear the level. It’s not too tough.
TRIAL 6, Underground: Choose Bjorn. His ability won’t give you any more points (unless you’re masochistic), and it will help guide you to pegs that would otherwise be difficult to hit. Most of this level’s pegs are on the right-hand side of the screen, which means two things: (1) That’s where most of the oranges will be, and (2) That’s where purple will most often will spawn. ALWAYS AIM AWAY FROM PURPLE PEGS. Clear a gap in the oval of pegs on the right side, then start picking off pegs on the left. If the purple peg goes to the left, get the ball into the oval and let it do its thing. If you shoot into the oval and hit a purple, with all the other pegs you’ll hit and the bonuses you’ll accrue, you’ll almost assuredly lose the level. Purple pegs run your score up quickly. 175,000 points gives you a good deal of leeway, so you don't need to be perfect here. Try to knock out as many orange pegs as possible without getting a green one. Once you reach a point where you're struggling to hit more oranges, pick up a green and use Bjorn's ability to bounce shots to hit the orange pegs you miss. Before you hit the last orange peg, waste all your other balls! Either re-direct them off blue pegs to go quickly, or shoot into nothingness and lose coin flips until they're all gone. I wound up with like 125,000 points before the final cup bonus, so I had some room to spare. Good luck.
TRIAL 7, A Paler Green: Again, I used Gnorman. The eyes in the middle can muck everything up. I cleared it on my first try, but I think I got really lucky. You only get one green peg – that’s the point of the level – and I used it right away. I wanted to make sure I cleared out as many pegs as possible with Uber Volt. If you can get a slide on the bottom , er, lip (?), you can clear a bunch of pegs out quickly. There aren’t any real tips I can suggest for this. Play it like a normal level, and restart if you get stuck.
TRIAL 8, Touchy Ghosts: The goal with this is to hit an orange peg and arc the ball’s path such that it hits a ton of blue pegs. Hitting 18 gets you a Ghost Touch, and you need three of these. The easiest way to get a Ghost Touch is to hit a bunch of blue pegs on the way down to hitting off an orange peg on the bottom row, then hoping it arcs high and hits a bunch more. You can try to bounce them off the orange pegs floating above, but hitting those usually make you hit a bunch of the oranges at the bottom, complicating everything. Once I figured out how to arc them off the bottom, I got two Ghost Touches in my first three tries. Aim for the bottom on an angle and hope for the best!
TRIAL 9, Orange Party: Use Gnorman. Just like Trial 5, you can clear this level very easily if you get a few lucky bounces with Gnorman’s Uber Volt. If you’re able to get Uber Volt early on, there are tons of clusters of closely stuck together pegs that will help the ball bounce around and clear out a ton of them. I didn’t have too much issue with this stage. If you’re having trouble, restart until you get his power-up early on, and take out a bunch of pegs with ease.
TRIAL 10, Rose Garden: You know the drill by now – pick Gnorman and success will follow. I may have gotten lucky, but I completed this level incredibly easily and quickly. Even though you have to get 750,000 points, it’s not tough at all to hit (unless I just got super lucky on my first try). The first ball I shot hit a green circular peg to the right of the shielded pegs. That’s important to get early, because Uber Volt clears out shielded pegs in one hit. With your second shot (that is powered up), aim for either a green or purple shielded peg near the top of the screen, and try to get it to bounce around and take out a bunch of pegs. Aim at clusters of purple pegs to really drive your score up a lot, and hope the ball bounces around a bit. There are so many opportunities to get tons of points on this level that you shouldn’t have too much difficulty. If you’re struggling, restart to mix up the pegs and have at it again.
Could you upgrade the Trial 3 Leap of Faith description to let people know that it's easier doing this trial by bouncing off of the orange peg on the right side of the screen. I was trying to do it from left to right for about 15 mins before I tried it from right to left. When I went from the right orange peg to the left orange peg I was able to do it on my first try. Otherwise this guide is very useful! Thanks!

Sure! I'll pop that in now. Glad the guide was helpful otherwise!

This is for completing all 10 trials from the fifth area named Gravely Grove. Here is the list of trials, with a video walkthrough by PS4Trophies Wozamil:
- Trial 1: Get fever and 750,000 points with forever nightshade. If you are struggling with this what you can do is this: Shoot the ball straight down the middle, this gets you the points of hitting the blue pegs. Now if you catch it then you won't lose a free ball so you can just rinse and repeat but only if you leave one orange so as to not end the level. Doing that method we could get about 12,000 every ball.
- Trial 2: For this just make sure you remember that the ball will pass through blue pegs, so aim so that the ball will bounce from one orange peg to another or into the bucket.
- Trial 3: To complete this you should hit one of the orange pegs on the side so that it bounces diagonally across the board through the blue pegs and into the other orange one.
- Trial 4: This is a simple one, just try and clear the orange pegs from the bottom rows first, along with the ones which require 2 hits to break.
- Trial 5: For this because it has columns of pegs we advise Jeff or Luna to reach the pegs near the base.
- Trial 6: Score less than 175,000, for this just refer to the tips for trial 9 from Peggle Institute.
- Trial 7: Clear all the pegs with the character you feel most comfortable with, but we advise using Berg because he can freeze the moving objects and can slide down pegs easier.
- Trial 8: For this you want to try and get a lot of Ghost touch ball skillz, by just shooting the ball straight through all the blue peg while hitting the orange to earn more free balls.
- Trial 9: For this just use which ever character you are most comfortable with.
- Trial 10: Refer to the previous maximum points challenges for the tips, just make sure to use a character where you can chain green pegs.
