How to unlock the Call That a Challenge? achievement in Quarrel - Definitive Guide

Here are the requirements for Gold Standard on each Challenge in order from the starting position and going counter-clockwise. I'll give the exact order to attack in by using color and number army and if needed which direction. B = Blue, G = Green, Y = Yellow

Trailblaze to Victory - capture 11 territories in a row (attack your way across the board going counter-clockwise)

Blaze Away - capture 14 territories in a row (attack your way across the board in this order: Y-6, Y-4, B-4, G-4, G-5, G-6, B-4, Y-5, Y-6, B-4, Y-7, B-7, G-8, G- 4)

Storm to Success - capture 15 territories in a row (start by attacking down and to the left and continue across the board: Y-5, B-4, G-4, G-6, B-4, G-4, Y-5, B-5, B-5, G-6, Y-5, B-5, G-5,Y-4, Y-5)

Back From The Brink - capture 7 territories (start by attacking up and then moving across the board: B-4 (top), B-4, B-5, B-4, B-5, B-6, B-7)

The Comeback Kid - capture 9 territories (make sure you spell the anagram so you have unlimited backups all the way across the board. and you can chip away at Anagramalamadingdong! achievement. start by attacking down and then moving across the board: B-5 (bottom), B-5, B-4, B-5, B-5, B-4, B-6, B-7, B-8)

The Final Fightback - capture 11 territories (start by attacking to the right an the moving across the board: B-4, B-7, B-6, B-5 (bottom), B-5, B-3, B-3, B-4, B-3, B-2, B-2)

Battle of the Giants - win 3 colossal conflicts (you have more than enough attempts to clear the board. just attack with any army and spell the anagram and you will win)

Here Be Giants - win 7 colossal conflicts (use one of your armies to attack an opposing army. your bottom middle army will have to attack twice but you should have a backup if you spelled the anagram at least once)

Land of the Giants - win 10 colossal conflicts (this one can be done in many different ways. just make sure to spell the anagram whenever you attack so you can keep your armies at 8 when calling in a backup)

Procure Prisoner - capture 16 prisoners (start in the top left then work your way across the top: B-5, Y-6, Y-8. now start at the bottom and work up and to the right: B-5, Y-5, B-5, Y-6, B-6, Y-7, B-8)

Captive Audience - capture 19 prisoners (start in the bottom right and go: B-4, Y-5, B-5, Y-8, Y-8, Y-8, B-8. now in the bottom left go : B-6, B-6, Y-8. finally in the top left go: Y-5, Y-6, B-7)

Convict Capture - capture 14 prisoners (starting with your bottom 5 army go right: G-5, Y-5, G-5, B-7, B-8. now with your bottom 6 army go left: B-5, Y-5, G-5, B-5, Y-5, G-5, B-5, G-6, G-8)

You'll run into trouble with the prisoners challenges and there is a lot of trial and error when playing these. Just keep going after bigger armies and don't use your backups. You CANNOT achieve Gold Standard if you use your backup even once.

Make sure you plan all your moves before you go on the attack. You don't want to get stuck too early and end the game before you reach Gold Standard. If you're having trouble make sure to use an anagram solver (link below) and take your time. Use of a chat pad greatly helps with speed.

I'm really having problems on the 2nd prisoner thing. I've gone round as many ways as possible and I always end up with 18 prisoners, instead of 19, without using any backups. Help? What's the track I need to use?

Having not played it yet this is merely an idea but before you start look at the troops in each section plan accordingly add how many prisoners you can get per section until you find the right path also to sifulys looks like a good guide thus far you should add a little bit about each type of challenge and the strategies of each type

Dwaggie - i'll be honest...i think i got lucky when i got the achievement on my other account. i was stuck at 17 and knew i wasn't going to get the challenge but i wanted to unlock the next one so i could get the requirements. the computer used their backup and i was lucky enough that their army had 2 more people than mine. i've been trying so hard to recreate that situation but haven't had any luck. if you get lucky enough to figure it out leave a comment and ill edit the solution.

pynnokyr - im actually working on that right now. i wanted to get up a solution that had all the requirements so people knew exactly what they needed to do to get gold. im working on finer details at the moment.

I had been getting so frustrated trying different routes in Captive Audience and not reaching 19 prisoners - tried your route and it worked out perfectly! (Caprice and Troy both used their backups in their final battles and I was even able to use one of mine and still end up with 19 prisoners). Mucho thanks!

the prisoner challenges are the hardest because they rely heavily on what letters pop up. if you get low scoring letters you're pretty much doomed because you can't make a word that has enough points to beat the computer. i suggest not going for the biggest word you can spell unless its the anagram. if you have to spell shorter words to get more points go for it because more than likely you'll either win or tie and then hopefully you entered your word first.

This guide helped me a lot for the prisoner challenges. I actually got 20/19 prisoners for the second one, and 17/14 for the third

Nice guide, but I'd just like to add that for at least the third prisoner challenge, you can actually get away with using a reinforcement or 2 towards the end and still get a gold.

I used a reinforcement on both of the last 2 territories (as per your guide Y-6 G-8) and the yellow guy also reinforced, so I was 5 troops vs 7. I ended up with 15 prisoners even though I only needed 14.

You can absolutely use backup on prisoner challenges. All that matters is getting the target number of prisoners. I used three backups on the last map and finished with 14 and gold standard.

Thanks for the guide on this, I was having trouble seeing the route for trail blazing. As for the prisoners I found I couldn't use any backups on the 1st and 2nd else I didn't capture enough. But I was able to use 2 on the 3rd challenge to take out the 8's

You can also plug a standard USB keyboard into the xbox and use that. Much faster than the controller and probably faster than the chat pad for many people.

I recommend:

http://www.anagrammer.com/scrabble/

Select SOWPODS on the dropdown menu, and you can sort by score. Even though they have slightly different scoring, it still comes out pretty effective. Along with this, I used the chat pad to give myself an edge on time, in case of the dreaded tie.

The last prisoner challenge is the only one that turned out to be unreasonable, mainly due to the fact that it's an uphill battle, and luck is required.

Thanks for the solution, I got through the prisoner challenges 1st try using this. I actually lost the last battle vs Damien in Convict Capture in a tiebreaker, but had enough prisoners already by not using backups before that. Thanks again!!

This guide helped a lot. Thanks! One note, though... for the prisoner challenges, as bclare noted, there's a little bit of give. I found that (after doing it about 10 times) I could give myself a *little* backup at the end, primarily in the 5-vs-8 and 4-vs-7 matches. Those really helped give me a few points, since they were killing me without.

Each challenge has it's own set of Bronze, Silver and Gold standards. Usually this means to complete the entire match without losing. While some of this is left up to chance, using an anagram solver to match up the highest possible word score will deffinitely help.

Trailblazing - Complete the entire map in one turn. Make a route that leaves open the possibility to back track. Take opportunities to capture prisoners where possible and always use an extra on each turn.

Fightback - I found this to be identical to Trailblazing and the goal of capturing the entire map in one turn. Same goes here to route a path that leaves open the possibility to back track. Take opportunities to capture prisioners where possible and always use an extra on each turn. Tip for the 3rd Challenge, go right instead of left. If you can't win 5v7 you wouldn't be able to finish it going left to start. Save yourself the time of retrying.

Colossal Conflict - Every match up must be 8v8. While the first 2 may not solve the anagram, there is always the possibility. Win each matchup by either solving the anagram or outscoring your opponent.

Prisoner Capture - As the title explains, simply match yourself up against a larger opponent and take the maximum number of prisioners. Very challenging, but go about it the same as other challenges and map out a path to make the most of the map. Do NOT use extras, as the Gold requirements are the maxiumum possible on the map. The challenge is skewed in your favor as the AI will not choose the highest possible word, but don't be fooled they will play high value tiles.

1. Procure Prisioners

2. Captive Audience! - Take the right path first.

3. Convict Capture! - Take the Left path first. A bit of luck and possibly a tie or two. The actual maximum is actually 16. Feel free to use an extra at the end.
