How to unlock the The Third achievement in Record of Agarest War - Definitive Guide
Ex skills will be you friends in taking him down but first and foremost make sure you have a full party at minimum level 50 all with Proofs of Valour used (you can get these from chests and completing titles, without following any guides I had around 10 by this point of the game). These are crucial as they 'upgrade' your characters giving you a big boost in, most importantly, AP/max AP and Move (as well as stats and HP.) If you have to grind a little to reach this point then battling in quest zones won't raise your turn counter.
At the start of the battle send out your main tank to stand off against him and have your other characters hang back 4+ squares without any being directly behind your tank as the boss has a move that will hit them also. Try to have the Tank in the extended area of one of the characters at the back (many have a single spot far forward) but only as an outlier to your main formation, not as the lynchpin. You may find you have to place a character directly behind your tank to get this set up, if so make sure you have a good few fragments of life and a character with lower agility than your tank (i.e. moves after him) in a position to revive this 'off tank' character. It's useful to have Ellis in the party both for her Ability to resurrect (healing is of little importance in this fight and you'll generally be KOed when hit) and total field coverage thanks to her 2nd Ex skill (even without the SP/AP to use it).
Begin the action phase and the boss will KO your tank giving your party members 25SP, if the boss doesn't attack first simply stand-by until he does as if you run your characters in you won't be able to do enough damage to finish him off in one turn without Ex attacks and he'll destroy you with AoE attacks in the next action phase. Once your tank is down use one of your mages to resurrect him (with the rest of your party so far back this is where Ellis helps in having full field range, if you don't use her the 'Issen' power move with a 4 square range can fill in). Your mages should have low enough agi that they will go after the boss even when on full AP. At the very least you need someone slow enough to able to send a mage up to resurrect your tank after the boss hits (hence it;s a good idea to use a character with decent agility as the tank, other stats don't really matter as they'll be KOed anyway)
Now in the move phase run your mage back into formation and simply repeat the process until you have 150-200 SP. When you're ready unleash a full turn of EX 1 and 2 attacks making sure to pull off any Specials you can. You should be able to easily take the boss out in one one action this way, even on hard, and will likely overkill him. If you have spare AP then use this to run the combo counter as high as you can before launching the Ex attacks as it a higher combo adds a multiplier to damage. Alternatively if you have few decent combo attacks, which is likely at this stage of the game, perform high damage attacks after the Ex attacks break the boss.
My party at the time: (All around level 50, fresh hard run)
(Minor spoilers)
Thoma
Vashtor
Borgnine
Vira-Lorr
Ellis
Winfield
When you get all the trash mobs finished off, you can also gain SP by using the various healing items. Something like 10SP for using a Grass, iirc. Definitely helps with the fight.
If you can get Winfield charged up, he can use his Hold Shot attack to stop the boss in his tracks. Use it early and often-ish and the boss won't move, potentially leaving your entire party alone.
Managed to beat the boss on the first try.

This trophy is story related and will unlock naturally. You play as Thoma in this Generation where you'll have the decision to marry one of the following girls:
Lavinia
Faina
Noah
You also meet the following party members in this Generation:
Plum
Gantz
Alberti
Story related, cannot be missed.
I would recommend Leonhart, Ladius, Borgnine, Thoma, Ellis, and Winfield (or Vira-Lorr if you are finding battles difficult) for this generation. As before, first you must find the Forbidden Tome in order to be able to bring back Ladius. Even though Thoma is a mage, it is still worth boosting his VIT stat. Since this will be more costly, you may want to leave it slightly lower before moving onto boosting INT.
Of note in this Generation is that Midas, a boss near the end of the generation, is probably one of the hardest fights in the game, so I will provide an in depth guide to taking him down. At the level you face him (generally around level 50), he will KO anyone he targets and has a couple of area of effect attacks that can wipe a party if they are close enough, at least on a fresh Hard run.
EX skills will be your friend in taking him down, but first and foremost, make sure you have a full party at minimum level 50 all with Proofs of Valour used (you can get these from chests and completing titles). These are crucial as they 'upgrade' your characters giving you a big boost in AP/max AP and Move (as well as stats and HP). Try to have the Tank in the extended area of one of the characters at the back (many have a single spot far forward) but only as an outlier to your main formation, not as the lynchpin. You may find you have to place a character directly behind your tank to get this set up (this will be Leonhart if following the suggested party); if so, make sure you have a good few fragments of life and a character with lower agility than your tank (i.e. moves after him) in a position to revive this 'off tank' character. It is useful to have Ellis in the party both for her ability to resurrect (healing is of little importance in this fight and you'll generally be KOed when hit) and total field coverage thanks to her second EX skill (even without the SP/AP to use it).
Begin the action phase and the boss will KO your tank giving your party members 25 SP. Stand back until the boss attacks (he will destroy you if you run in since you won't be able to do enough damage to finish him off in one turn without EX). Once your tank is down, use one of your mages to resurrect him (with the rest of your party so far back). Your mages should have low enough agility that they will go after the boss even when on full AP. At the very least, you need someone slow enough to be able to send a mage up to resurrect your tank after the boss hits (hence it's a good idea to use a character with decent agility as the tank)
Now in the move phase, run your mage back into formation, and simply repeat the process until you have 150-200 SP. It helps a lot to have skills like status up/power up on your non-mage characters, and casting this on themselves will net you 10 SP per cast as well. When you are ready, unleash a full turn of EX 1 and 2 attacks, making sure to pull off any specials you can. You should be able to easily take the boss out in one action this way, even on Hard. If you have spare AP, then use this to run the combo counter as high as you can before launching the EX attacks as it a higher combo adds a multiplier to damage. Alternatively, if you have few decent combo attacks, perform high damage attacks after the EX attacks to break the boss.
I would suggest taking Faina as your bride this generation as it leads to a great mage version of Duran.
