How to unlock the Legendary achievement in Red Dead Redemption - Definitive Guide

Just wanted to throw this out there. If you have a problem with losing all your previously attained weapons and starting over for any reason, you can turn off the "Autosave" feature in the options section of the pause menu. Then you may "Pass into Legend," get your achievement, and go to the dashboard. When you load up multiplayer again you will still be level 50.

This is a great tip, but not really a solution. But you best believe I told everybody I know about the trick, lol. Because I was able to pop this one before Advanced Co-Op, and for Advanced Co-Op you probably want to use the "No Holds Barred" class, and that's useless if you're a low level.

This achievement from the Legends and Killers DLC is unlockable once you reach rank 50 in multiplayer, which happens once you accumulate 337,110 XP. To unlock it, select Outfitter on the multiplayer menu and press Y to pass into legend. You will be prompted twice before the action is carried out.

When you pass into legend, your XP resets at zero. All of the challenges - e.g. Lawbringer, Bounty Hunter, etc. - are reset. You lose the weapons and mounts you have unlocked, but you do NOT lose the characters and titles you have unlocked. You also do not lose any game types/maps you have unlocked. For example, if you have unlocked Advanced Co-op missions, they will still be unlocked after you pass into legend. If you have earned a golden gun, it will still be golden in any game types/maps that have it, and when you unlock it again in free roam, it will be automatically be golden.

If your goal is to reach legend level 5 in multiplayer as quickly as possible, you will generally want to pass into legend as soon as you hit rank 50, because any XP you earn at rank 50 are wasted. The main reason you might not want to pass into legend immediately is if you are close to getting a golden gun. If you reach rank 50 and you have, say, 82 headshots on a specific gun, you might want to hang out at level 50 for a while and get those last 18 headshots before passing into legend, because once you pass into legend, you will start back at zero.

I posted the process that I used to pass into legend three times. People said it didn't work. I knew from 3x experience that it did. Obviously, people were having trouble with it, but it wasn't an easy thing for me to go back through the steps again to see why ... that would have meant putting a ton of hours into a game I quit playing long ago, just to go through a couple of menus. I'm glad that twelve years later, someone finally came along and explained where the confusion came from. Hopefully, the two or three words I had to change in the solution will make it more correct.

Reach level 50, once at level 50, go to multiplayer from the pause menu, you will see your character profile.

Here you an press "Y" to "pass into legend".

Doing so net's you the achievement.

Alternatively if you're already in legendary status before the DLC pack, all you have to do is login & you will be awarded the achievement automatically as soon as you load up multiplayer.

WAY TOO MUCH, all you need is the solution for this chievo, if someone wanted to know how to get to lvl 50, they should consult the solution for How the West Was Won. Sorry dude, but I can't stand redundancies. You could have just left the top 5 lines and this solution would have been perfect.

It's called being informative, I'm so sorry this upsets you.

There, edited the exclamation points, it was purely because I had heard news of the deleting cache I thought to edit.

Also if people want to know the fast way to rank up they can find information, heck maybe they haven't looked at the other achieve, that's so pathetic & sour.

They may find it here first, you do not speak for everyone. The information is at the top of my solution, it's split into two if you didn't realise.

First to post the solution & get you guys proving once again just how charming the TA community is.

Thank you Carbonkris, I appreciate your feedback.

I was just trying to be helpful & informative but The Nerevarine, DimitriRacalov & zigs00 were quite rude about it, instead of being polite, friendly & patient, they could have advised what they didn't like, waited for me to edit a few things, but instead they chose to be unreasonable & in doing so vote negatives against me.

I see I also have another negative since my last visit, very nice.

I submitted a solution first, granted it's an easy, simple enough achievement, I had nothing else to do since I had just unlocked the 100gs from the DLC first in the UK. Oh well what can you do.

I'm sorry if you got the impression of me being rude. I feel that being frank and upfront is the best approach, I could have just given you a negative and left it at that, but instead I felt that giving you a critique would better help you make a more efficient solution. Whether you agree or not, the simple fact that you included a solution for 2 achievements in one solution is the truth. Personally, I thought you were going to take the second portion of this solution and post it as a solution for How the West Was Won, but to each their own. Either way, thanks for the change, lose the comment at the end and I'll be glad to give you a positive vote. Again, I appologize if I came off as rude, I just meant to be straight and foward with my opinion.

No jk. You were asking for it though =]

In all seriousness I have to agree with the others. You basically reposted what I read a few weeks ago when I started from level 24 to get to 50...FOR THE WRONG CHEEVO...lmao. If you weren't so 'pish posh' about everything you might see the humor in it as I did when I read these comments ^_^ Infact, you might've realized it when you were copy/pasting all that information and stopped yourself with a chuckle to begin with.

Oh well. Pathetic arguments aside, completely informative(without being too informative) and answered my one and only question on the subject. Thumbs up.

By CEREAL KILLAH23 on 15 Aug 2010 16:11
It was basically the delete cache method, however playing offline system link reset's your rank OR/AND will do nothing, anything you gain offline will not count when you sign back in. Before they patched it, it was the only way to get to level 50 in the shortest amount of time.

Shemp Howard goes into fine detail about it in his solution for achieving level 50.

Also if you still need level 50, get on RDR right now, they're doing double XP, I had no idea until I signed in earlier when my friend told me. Best place is to go to Pike's Basin, you will get around 3k+ per run through.

Which I had double XP when I was ranking up =P

Good luck!

*Update: Sorry guys & girls, it looks like it is nerfed, just confirmed with a 2nd account to see if I could figure out a way round.

I also read what Shemp Howard put in his solution for How the West Was Won which can be found here:

https://www.trueachievements.com/a44979/how-the-west-was-won...

Unfortunately Rockstar have really screwed us out of this. My advice is to follow what Shemp Howard says. But I know how much of a bore it can be so recommend mixing it up to keep things fresh, co-op is always fun with friends & can get you XP that way, even if it's a small amount.

Wish you all the best of luck!

Phew, I've been busy the last few days but I log on to see I have 12 PM's all wanting advice to get fast level 50's.

Well it goes to show something isn't right & was doing people a favour.

@ Mr Z53, nothing about being "pish posh", I was being informative to read complaints about including how to gain level 50 quickly info in there was unwelcomed. There's something called common courtesy & respect. Too many times I've seen ego's online but when you all meet up they tend to often back off & lick your arse because you turn out to be bigger than they are. Oh the joy of LAN events. It would be taken well if there wasn't a negative, with a polite comment or PM asking for an edit/giving advice on what should be.

Also for the record it was from my own back, it wasn't a copy/paste job thanks. I took the time to write it all out since the XP system has been nerfed by Rockstar & from reports it sounds like they nerfed the solution I posted up about getting around the initial "nerf".

Because I was apologising to those who wanted the info, but instead they can PM me, I've edited it out as kindly requested by Rascalov, leaving just a polite PM me for a solution.

@ DimitriRascalov, that's cool, I've had people on here misread what I've put & think I'm being hostile, but it works both ways so far even when I haven't intentionally tried to come off as being aggressive.

I could have edited it out of this & put it in "How the West Was Won" as a solution but I figured that already has solutions (I'll check after I post this), & the fact this had no other solution at the time I thought I was just being helpful.

@ those who are waiting for my level 50 solution, I'll be writing up a guide & sending it out as soon as I can confirm with tests that Rockstar have/have not, nerfed the solution since I don't want anyone to go through all that to loose their rank.

This is IF you want to keep all your guns, ecspecialy if there golden.

What i did is hit rank 50. Go to dashboard and copy your multiplayer save to the cloud or a usb. Then go back to the game pass into legened, then delete that save off your HDD, and copy your save on the cloud or usb back to your HDD. Youve got the achievement and all your stuff.

***ATTENTION RDR1 GRINDERS***

This is the best solution that doesn't involve finding a modded lobby in 2023!

I've also seen a lot of players claiming "Twin Rocks" is a great farm spot, but that is simply not true netting only 348 XP on average. (This would take around 900 replays)

PIKES BASIN GANG HIDEOUT (SOLO)

Yes, this will be your quickest farm method to achieving rank 50 and passing into Legend. Each completion (on average) will land you around 1,820 XP! I've received a tad more on most occasions hitting numbers like 1,835/ 1,830 XP.

The quickest I've completed this hideout was under 5 mins at 4:52.72 and the longest it's taken me was 6:24.43 with 2 deaths. I still netted 1,830 XP with this time.

Start at the top of Pikes Basin and make your way down to the herd area. You should clear the right path first, and the left path last. You will end the hideout with around 49 kills. The Evans repeater (found at Pikes Basin) and Mauser pistol (found at Twin Rocks) with casual aim mode makes this child's play, although the enemy does hit hard. Make sure to pick up repeater ammo.

337,000 XP is needed for the achievement. For a level 1 player it would take around 185 replays of "Pikes Basin" to reach level 50 and pass into Legend. (337,000/1,820= 185.22) I am RANK 21 as of writing this and possibly need 156 more replays to reach RANK 50. Another player who gave up on modded lobbies as well claims this method took him 20-25 hours alone.

I'll edit this post if I have an update on my 156 replays. I'm keeping track! ;)

Before you can turn into a Legend you need to level up through the different levels in multiplayer until you hit 50. Once you hit level 50 you will be given the change to start over again as a Legend.

To change your status from rank 50 back to a rank 1 Legend hit while in multiplayer, then go down to the multiplayer tab. You should see your multiplayer profile on the screen; press while on this screen and you will pass through to your next round of leveling. Just be careful not to hit while in this menu if you don't want to level up just yet.

If you have passed over and already become a Legend, this achievement will unlock automatically once you start playing multiplayer.

This trophy is retroactive so if you already reached level 50 and passed into legend, you will still be able to get it. As soon as you buy the DLC and pop in the game and head in to an online free roam the trophy will pop. If you want this trophy but don't like the thought of having to work your way back up to level 50, backup your save, pass into Legend, then copy your save back. Thanks to Yazter for this tip.
