How to unlock the Fret Fast achievement in Rocksmith - Definitive Guide

This minigame, like several, start off pretty easy at first, but in my opinion, get ridiculously hard. I've been playing guitar for nearly 30 years, and playig this legit, i could barely break 2 million before the ducks started coming down too fast. So here are two tips to help you crush this minigame.

1. Abuse the pause feature. Every time you pause, you get a countdown of 3 seconds, so you can reposition your hands and see what is coming down to hit it. Towards the end, I was hitting pause after hitting every note...and even then i barely had time to hit the note and repause.

2. Unless you own a guitar with perfect/very good intonation, chances are VERY high that the guitar intonation will affect your ability to play this game at the higher frets especially on your lower strings past frets 15 or so. I am not sure what ubisoft was thinking, since most players rarely use those frets in real life anyway. What i found happening more often than not, was that I would fret at 17 and the game would register it as hitting fret 18 causing a miss due to my intonation being off and my guitar going slightly sharp. To avoid this, simply find the note you are suppose to play, listen to the note, and match it on another string. For example, if you are supposed to hit fret 19 on the red string, just hit fret 12 on the yellow string instead.

Don't worry if you think the game is going fast and you are still at like only..2 million or so. Once you get to the later levels, the score starts to skyrocket as hitting individual notes later will easily yield huge scores that boost your score in no time.

This won't work after the patch. Also, if you have been playing guitar for 30 years and your axe isn't intonated, you have problems. Get it setup dude. And fret 19 is not the same as 12, it would be 14, unless you are tuned down to drop D.

My understanding is that you can still get the achievement post-patch..it just negates a leaderboard entry..which I am sure most people do not care about. I've not tested it myself so I cannot verify.

As for the fret 19/12..yea..clearly I am too used to being in drop D..hence the confusion..and also explains why my intonation is hard to control on the bottom string in the higher registers. Believe me..the guitar is set up fine....the game can get really picky on what it wants to register sometimes.

Thanks for the guide Taco! I feel your pain with the damn intonation. I've been rockin' a B.C. Rich for 12 years and I just had it restored, but it still registers certain frets incorrectly. I've just assumed the low tonality of my Warlock is at a frequency the game has trouble decoding lol.

Cumulative as in you play the mini game 10 times scoring 1 million each time to get a total of 10 million? No. YOu need to make 10 million in ONE try.

Wicked, just got this without the pause button. My intonation is better than I thought :)

Maybe the patch also tweaked the notes? I never have problems with frets, only when I bend the string a little because I'm going too fast for my own good.
I haven't played guitar for years and still could rack up 1,7m without tricks and I had to look at my guitar a lot because I'm not used to the distances between frets anymore. This solution seems a little exaggerated. But good tips nonetheless.

I highly recommend Teamlead Taco's suggestion to use the A string for some of the higher frets: 10 through 15 on the A string instead of 15 through 20 on E. My intonation is solid, but I was still having trouble getting the game to recognize my higher E frets.

Your best friend is volume control here. Even though the game is speeding up, keep your strums quiet. If you become sloppy and start slapping the strings, easy frets like 5, 7, 9, and 12 stop registering and you'll feel silly.

Since this is all on the lower strings, use your second position on your pick-up selector for a good medium of tone.

The achievement should pop around Level 29 to 30.

Just a note on Teamlead taco's guide, I was abusing the pause feature but was still missing notes because I couldn't hit the pause button fast enough after playing the note. so I just asked a friend to pause for me after every not which worked perfectly, if you play up until round ten it only took us ten minutes of pausing to get the cheev ridiculously easy. I got this and the superducks achievement this way first go.

Ducks is a simple game in the style of "Space Invaders." Ducks will come down the fret board and you just have to hit the low E string on the fret in which the duck is coming down to shoot it. You will probably need to make it to level 32-35 to achieve the amount of points needed. The ducks do begin to come much quicker in later levels so you can resort to the "Pause Cheat" method.

While, pausing the game more than a few times will disqualify you from the leaderboards, it does not stop it from popping trophies. So use it often. The advantage to this is that when you un-pause, you are given 3 seconds before the game starts giving you enough time to find the proper fret to shoot the next duck. Shoot the duck and quickly pause and un-pause and you'll be given 3 seconds to line up the next shot. Repeat this as often as you need. This will give you extremely high combos and help you get past the higher levels which are very fast.

It seems like you have to get to at least level 31 to break 10,000,000. I got to level 28 with a 101 streak and only managed 4.8 million. With some practice, this should get easier. If this is too difficult, resort to the pause method mentioned in the roadmap.

Note:
If one of your strings is not registering notes correctly, try pausing and tuning your guitar during the game. Sometimes the sound check will let you get by without being completely on tune (though it usually does a pretty good job).

The game is quite difficult, it accelerates quite quickly and leaves no chance at the end). However, do not be discouraged if you score a small number of points, as in all games they grow exponentially. Those. in fact, you are much closer to the record than you think. For each new level, 10 seconds are added to your time. You need to play quite quickly in order to set yourself up for difficult levels at the first simple levels.

Tips for passing it:

1. If the playing gets confused in determining the fret (especially on the 1-2 frets), mute the strings after knocking down the weft. Also, at high frets (15 and above), the playing may in any case be confused with the definition of the fret; this may just be due to the peculiarities of your guitar. If you have a pickup switch (this is a positional lever on a guitar), you can try to adjust it (as with other guitar settings, you can also slightly adjust the guitar right during the arcade). There is another way out: you can find the note that you are asked to play (on the Internet, for example) and play it on another lower string. For example, if you want to play the 19th fret on the red string (sixth), you can play the 12th fret on the yellow string (5th) instead.

2. Place your hand holding the strings correctly. As shown in one of the first technical exercises, the hand should lie on the fretboard so that four fingers cover the four frets. Accordingly, when playing strings in this exercise, you need to accustom yourself first of all to use different fingers, and not to move your hand. This saves a lot of time.

3. Use a pause. You can start stopping after each note at 1,000,000 points (by this point you should have a time reserve of 30 seconds), then you are guaranteed to receive a prize. After each rest, you have a 3 second cooldown to prepare for the next note. You end up having to press pause after every note. You will most likely have to press pause on the joystick with your foot so as not to be distracted.
