How to unlock the It Was All in Your Head achievement in Silent Hill 3 HD - Definitive Guide
You get 10 points for each monster killed, 1 point for every point of damage taken and 1000 points for forgiving the women at the confession booth near the end of the game.
Ideally you'll want to kill every monster for about 2000 points (200 monsters), forgive the woman and take 1000 points of damage. For the damage points I let the final boss hit me about 20 times while using up all my healing items.
(Missable) There are 3 endings in the game and two of them work off the same system. This is considered the lesser of the endings and requires you to play "meaner" than normal.
The ending you get is based on an invisible scoring mechanic built into the game. When you begin the game you are at 0 Points and most of your actions push it up; there is only one case that helps it go down.
Killing an enemy = +10 Points
Damage Received; 1 Damage = 1 Point
Confessional; Forgive = +1000 Points, Say Nothing = 0 Points
In the Amusement Park when Douglas is injured you can talk to him or simply walk past him.
Talk to Douglas; Talk = -400 Points, Don't Talk = 0 Points
To get the Normal Ending, you need to have less than 4000 Points.
To get the Possessed Ending, you need to have 4000+ Points.
10 is given for a killed monster (any), for each damage done to you 1 point and depending on the answer in the confessional (the answer I forgive you will bring 1000)
For the possessed ending you need to score 4000 or more points.
It's impossible to get it on your first playthrough.
For the second/subsequent one you need to score 4000 points:
- 1000 is given for “I forgive” in the confessional in the church;
- 10 is given for each monster killed;
- 1 is given for each unit of damage received (presumably one “line” of life – 100 points);
- 400 is taken away for a second conversation with Douglas in the park.
Tactics:
- You need to start the game at least on the normal difficulty level - otherwise you won’t get enough monsters.
- It is advisable not to try to combine this passage with obtaining achievements for a speed passage / passage without saves / with minimal damage.
- Since you will have to kill a lot, it is advisable to acquire something powerful and convenient. The Infinite Submachine Gun is ideal (see above: on the first playthrough, finish off the last boss with a melee weapon, take it at the beginning of the game in a dead end in a pile of garbage, to the left of the toilet window).
- Kill everything that moves, and then come back and check if there is a respawn. Interestingly, there are several places in the game where monsters can be made to respawn endlessly. The most convenient thing is in the clinic: after a telephone conversation with Leonard on the second floor, the door will unlock. If you enter it and then immediately return back, you can clear the corridors and the roof a second time (there are 11 of them on Norma).
- Don’t wear body armor, don’t be afraid to take damage. Look in all corners, pick up all the treatments and first aid kits. Don't waste it on minor wounds.
- If you don’t want to bother taking damage during the game, you can leave this task until the battle with the last boss. You need to stand out of her reach and wait until she hits you with fire. On normal difficulty, two hits will drive life into the red spectrum. We use strong healers, repeat the procedure until the first aid kits and ampoules run out, then finish off using the usual methods (it’s better to leave some of the kills in case there are problems during the finishing process). Voila!
