How to unlock the Sub Game Master achievement in Sonic Adventure - Definitive Guide
Sky Chase Act 1, First Emblem: Complete the Stage in Adventure Mode (Should work for either Sonic or Tails.)
Sky Chase Act 1, Second Emblem: Beat the set high score of 8,000 in Trial Mode. As has been posted by prowlerdante, hold down the fire button and hover over the stuff you want to blow up, you'll get homing missiles.
Sky Chase Act 2, First Emblem: Complete the Stage in Adventure Mode (Should work for either Sonic or Tails.)
Sky Chase Act 2, Second Emblem: Beat the set score of 20,000 in Trial Mode.
(You'll probably want to aim for an accuracy score of 90% or higher when going for the high score on both of these.)
Sand Hill, First Emblem: Beat the stage in Tails' Adventure Mode.
Sand Hill, Second Emblem: Beat the set high score of 10,000 in Trial Mode. Apparently Sonic and Tails have slightly different courses/routes, but I did mine as Sonic. Again, avoid all speed boosters and try not to break your combo. Anything over 30 should be good enough.
Twinkle Circuit, First Emblem: Beat the Track score of 10 minutes. I did this in Sonic's Adventure mode, but I don't see any reason why this couldn't be done in Trial Mode.
Twinkle Circuit, Second Emblem: Beat the time you just set. Obviously, just go at a casual pace the first run through and then actually make an effort to race the second time through.
As for Hedgehog Hammer, I have no concrete idea. There are so many ideas tossed around for how the emblems work in it that it has gotten me thoroughly confused. Here's exactly what -I- did to get both emblems:
- In Adventure Mode, got the Warrior Feather with a score of 2100.
- Beat the game, came back in Adventure Mode, got a score of 3400 and the Long Hammer.
- Went into Trial Mode and the score to beat was still 3400.
- Scored 3500, got the first emblem.
- Played the Trial Mode version again, scored 3700 and got the second emblem.
So, even though it may not be required, I suggest you get the Long Hammer while your score is still easy to beat, which, with the tip below, will make it much easier to beat it two more times for the two Hedgehog Hammer emblems.
A general tip for Hedgehog Hammer: Once you get the Long Hammer, simply spam the Spin Attack (though not enough to make her dizzy.) More often then not, you'll earn more points than you're losing, and it's much faster than trying to manually react to stuff popping up. Of course, you may get unlucky and have tons of robotniks pop up, but keep trying!
This is where I ran into trouble. After getting the first emblem, I quit the game and continued playing Hedgehog Hammer in the Trials mode. I beat my 2100 score several times (with 2400, 2600, and 2800) and I never got the 2nd emblem. Then I read in a FAQ that you need to top 3000 to get the Long Hammer. So I got 3100 in Trials mode......no Long Hammer, and no 2nd emblem! Then I went back into the story mode, got 3200, and only got the Long Hammer, but still no 2nd emblem!! Finally I got 3800 in the story mode, and got my 2nd emblem.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you have to obtain the Long Hammer before you can get the 2nd emblem, no matter what you score, and that the Long Hammer can only be obtained in the story mode by beating 3000, not just your previous best. Then you have to beat your over 3000 best again in story mode (or possibly Trials mode will work at this point, but I can't confirm that) to get the 2nd emblem.
The dangerous part is that it keeps track of how you do in Trials mode even when you go back into the story, so if you went into Trials mode and scored a really high score before getting the Long Hammer in story mode, you will be in a really tough spot.
Sky Chase Acts -
Do just as prowlerdante mentioned, hold in the fire button as much as possible to lock-on to your enemies. Do this without fail, and make sure to hit all the floating barb-like bots for maximum score.
Sand Boarding -
I found this one the most difficult of all the Sub-Games because I got a very good score my first time.. By the time I finally got it, I realized a few tricks and demolished my high score - 1) Memorization is key. Know where the random pieces of the environment pop up, and know where the goal posts are. 2) Go fast but actually avoid hitting the speed boosters because often enough they launch you too fast for control, or they send you into a wall which messes up your counter and slows more time than it would have helped.
and 3) Try and string together your goal post-hitting in at least one or two strings (or whatever you could call them). To clarify, try not to let your counter have to reset at all, but if it does do not give up, just try not to let it reset more than once.
Twinkle Circuit -
Not too much to add about this one. I was awful at it the first time so getting the second emblem was easy. One hint would be to turn corners early because running into them can really hurt your time.
Whack-A-Hedgehog -
Aside from shooting low the first attempt(s), hit as many "Super Sonics" as possible and avoid hitting EggMan.. well, that's obvious. If you scored really high the first time and are having trouble for getting the second emblem (Or first because the first time(s) were to get the power-ups), then just concentrate.
I hope this helps =]
For the Sand Boarding Missions, get a low score the first time and get a high score the second time.
Twinkle Circuit: Just go through this slowly, you will want a bad time. You will get an emblem for beating it. The second time just go faster to beat your old time.
For Whack - A - Hedgehog, get a low enough score that you beat the first high score. Next time, beat the next high score that is listed.
[10 emblems]
You’ll get 5 of these emblems by playing through all characters’ stories and completing the sub games listed below for the first time. The other 5 you get by replaying them in Trial mode:
- Sky Chase Act I – Get 8000 Points (easy)
- Sky Chase Act II – Get 20000 Points (medium)
- Sand Hill – Get 10000 Points (hard)
- Twinkle Circuit – Beat 10:00:00 or your previous score (very easy)
- Hedgehog Hammer – Beat your previous high score (easy)
Sub Game Tips:
Sky Chase
Make sure you use lock-on to destroy the enemies, don’t even bother with normal shooting. Hold and move the cross-hair around the screen to lock on to as many enemies as possible at the same time, then release to fire upon them. Do this for every group of enemies you see. For Act II, it’s important to get as many of the fireballs / fixed guns on the Egg Carrier as you can, for they give you the most points. It may take a few tries to clear Act II.
Hedgehog Hammer
Don’t get carried away the first time you play this game during Amy’s storyline. You only have to beat 2000 to complete it in Story mode, so don’t go much higher than that the first time, because you will have to beat your score again to get the second emblem. I went nuts the first time and got 4000, which took me a few tries to beat later.
Sand Hill
You can use either Sonic or Tails, but I didn’t find one easier than the other, so pick whomever you like. The more rings you pass through in a row, the higher the multiplier for each subsequent ring. If you don’t pass through a ring within a few seconds, you lose your multiplier. You will need to get around a 30x multiplier in order to get 10000 points. This one comes down to memorization, so don’t get discouraged if you have to replay it 15-20 times. Once you know your route, it’s just a matter of getting through it without making a mistake.
If you get a 25x or so multiplier and lose it, don’t quit – you could still make 10000 points if you don’t make any further mistakes. If you lose your multiplier at least twice, you might as well quit and try it again from the beginning.
Here is a video with a good route to use if you are having trouble finding your own, courtesy of Cackman:
1. Sky Chase Act I
Unlocks when playing as Sonic after defeating Chaos 4 . The player is required to fly through the level on Tails' plane, simultaneously destroying enemy aircraft and air defense systems. Shooting controls are reminiscent of those in REZ or the Panzer Dragoon series (whichever is closer) - by holding down the fire button and aiming at the enemy, he will be marked with a rectangular frame. By releasing the fire button, fire from the aircraft's guns will be opened on all selected enemies, which in most cases will destroy them (the enemy, therefore). Emblems can be obtained for:
[1] - Easy passage of the level;
[2] - Break the record of 8000 points.
If you use the shooting method described earlier, getting the second emblem will not be difficult.
2. Sky Chase Act II
Opens when playing as Sonic, after running through the Red Mountain level and a small scene in the game engine. Everything is exactly the same as in the first act, except that Tails now controls Sonic’s heavily modified pepelats and at the end the player will have a battle with the boss. Emblems:
[1] - Easy passage of the level;
[2] - Break the record of 20,000 points.
The advice is the same - shoot at all opponents that you have time to reach with “auto” shooting.
3. Twinkle Circuit
Opens when playing as any character who, according to the plot, will be able to get to Twinkle Park . The easiest way to play as Sonic is to go through the action level of Twinkle Park and, without rushing to leave, go through the door with the inscription Twinkle Circuit. It is a race on an unspecified type of racing car. Emblems:
[1] - Just go through the route to the end;
[2] - Break your own record.
The method of obtaining it suggests itself - the first time we go through slowly, without rushing, and having already received the first emblem on the second playthrough, we press the gas pedal to the floor (if there is one on the unit controlled by the player).
4. Sand Hill
Unlocks when playing as Tails, after the scene with Froggy in Ruin Site . In the mini-game you need to ride a snowboard (in the desert...) to the finish line, simultaneously gaining points for passing through the “gate”. The more “gates” a player passes one after another without interrupting the series, the more points he will receive. Emblems:
[1] - Just go through the route to the end;
[2] - Break the record of 10,000 points.
A series of 35 “gates” is enough to take the second emblem. Most likely you will have to retake the route several times to remember the location of the gate.
5. Hedgehog Hammer
Unlocked by playing as cutie Amy Rose after being released from prison before Hot Shelter. It is a variation of the good old Whack-a-mole - you need to hit the toys crawling out of holes with a hammer. For the Sonic doll we get 100 points, for Tails we get 500 points, and if we hit Eggman -200 (the doctor loves and appreciates himself, unlike disgusting little animals). It is important not to overdo it here - during Adventure mode, score only a little more than 2000 points. This will open the exit from the room and get the warrior feather boost for Amy. We will receive emblems in Trial mode:
[1] - Get into the table of records;
[2] - Break your own record.
This is actually why you need to limit yourself - if you break up for the first time and score under 4000 points, it will be difficult to get emblems. And so first we break our first record (which is a little more than 2000), and the second time we break a new record one more time.
