How to unlock the Big Ego! achievement in Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings - Definitive Guide
This achievement is NOT as difficult as it may seem at first sight. (Even though that is extremely subjective to your SMB skill in general)
I'd start by working your way up with ego, and easing your way from 50-60-70 ego until you feel comfortable with making the jump to 80. You'll sense an immediate difference with the opposing pitcher's speed, (and accuracy/junk) as well as the fielding not being as easy, and with the batting reticule BARELY locking onto opposing pitches, among with other small details.
If you can master pitching, (or at least pitch extremely accurately) you should have little to no problem with the opposition's batting.
The problem that I had, was getting contact/hitting in general. The CPU becomes greatly smarter with their pitches, so try your very best to keep an eye out for balls outside of the strike zone.
Do not become discouraged at any misstep or faults, as they will do nothing but fluster you, and hinder your decision-making. Coming from a person who has suffered more than several mistakes and losses in this game, please be patient with yourself.
If you are in any need of advice, or specifications about anything, let me know! I've been playing the game for a good bit before it was free, so I (unfortunately) know this game like the back of my hand
Good luck!!

Thanks for this. I'm still working my way up the levels. I find that pitching is fine for me, but I'm having trouble with timing of the swings for batting.
I can't quite work out when I need to be swinging - is it when the aim turns red? When it goes to a plus sign? Neither of these...? I end up with a lot of balls that pop up for an easy catch or just miss entirely.

I've recently won the ego 90 achievement, and can confirm it gets slightly easier the higher level you get (still really hard!)
I believe you need to time your swing as the ball passes through the plus sign, but because the power swing take time to charge up and then charges back down if you hold it too long, I found the off speed pitches always (and I mean basically 100% of the time) go for strikes because it is so hard to slow down your timing to hit them
I also believe you need to have your target slightly on the lower half of the ball so it goes over the heads of the infielders but either goes for a home run or gets down before the outfielders can catch it.
It seems as though the mojo system in the game has a HUGE impact on the outcome of each play. If you look at your player's attributes when you are pitching or up to bat, you will see the amount of pressure on your player, and their current mojo level. I found that if your pitcher starts to give up a few hits, it's easy for the flood gates to open and for every pitch to get hit (and sometimes frustratingly so, as I've thrown pitches well off the plate that got hit for homeruns). In the game I won on ego 90, I had to substitute my starting pitcher in the 7th inning because his stats were starting to fall quite a bit and his mojo was lowering.
Lastly, you have to control your errors. If you have an opportunity to make a double play, but you only make a 50% power throw and aren't fast enough, it might come back to bite you, particularly because, as mentioned before, when your pitcher gives up base hits, his mojo goes down, and he's more likely to give up even more base hits after that. Basically, you need to get in a grove of having 3 up and 3 down most, if not all the way through your game
I've been having a ton of fun with this game, although ego 99 is pull-your-hair-out frustrating, so I've been avoiding that one
