How to unlock the Enemy Sage achievement in Tales of Xillia - Definitive Guide
There are encounters in the arena that count towards this including doubles of Presa, Jiao, Wingul, Ivar and doubles of your whole team.
There are also a few sub events that offer unique enemies. These could range from standard enemies that are slightly different for sub event purposes or special enemies such as the Devil's Beasts or the Guardians in the Xailen Woods Temple.
Bacura's can be missed as they don't spawn all of the time and flee when you see them, simply use a dark bottle and they will instead run towards you.
Otherwise, simply fight every enemy you see and keep working towards completing the monster book! If you've saved enough grade from your first play you can keep all monster data for the second run.
Progress on this trophy carries over to a NG+.
You’ll need to register 275 enemies in the Enemy Book for this trophy. As long as you fight all the encounters in each new area, you should be at around 200 entries by the time you beat the game. Since each character’s story has bosses exclusive to their side, it’s recommended to clean up this trophy during NG+.
The only areas you cannot return to are the E.S.S. Zenethra, Temporal Crossroads (Jude's Story only) and the Spirit Realm (Milla’s Story only), so make sure to fight all the encounters in those areas before completing them.
Some other optional monsters you can fight for more entries are:
- Bacura
- Bronze Bacura
- Silver Bacura
- Gold Bacura
These are rare monsters that appear as rotating bricks, and will flee from you if approached. Use a Dark Bottle to make them chase you instead.
- Veywind Eye (Found in Torbalan Highroad - Central Region, to the east)
- Graddic Claw (Found in Rusalle Highroad - North Region, outside the Tatalian Abyss entrance)
- Crimson and Azure Servant (Found in “The Lost Transcendental Ring” sub event)
- Gandala Defense Golem 1 and 2 (Found in “Take Over Fort Gandala” sub event)
- The Devil Beast Roparde can also summon 4 different types of monsters that are unique to its battle.
Furthermore, the coliseum in Xian Du has 22 unique entries that you can get by going through the following matches:
- Beginner Single
- Advanced Single
- Beginner Group
- Advanced Group
- Grandmaster
For the Grandmaster match, you’ll need to beat it with two different characters to unlock all of its entries.
It’s advised to save the coliseum for NG+, should you need it, as clearing the coliseum battles will provide a hefty amount of experience, and with the 10x experience bonus, will minimize the unnecessary number of battles you need to do to reach level 99.
Note that the rebattles with the upgraded Golden Mage Knight do not give any new entries.
- ESS Zenerha
- Spirit World (Only by playing through the story as Milla)
So, to some extent, you can skip this trophy, you played as Milla once and forgot to mix all the mobs in the “World of Spirits”, that’s a bummer...)
- During the passage, we knock down everything that moves (in addition to enemies, we gain experience). It is advisable to go through some kind of walkthrough in order to combine it with the Sub-event superhero trophy (we’ll just get a couple of unique mobs).
- As stated above, don’t forget about ESS Zenerha, you can’t go back there, and there are a certain number of mobs there (I was lucky enough to catch a silver bakura there).
- When you first enter the Temporal Crossroads zone, you need to catch four types of enemies - one for each element (fire, water, earth, wind). If not everyone was caught, it makes sense to load the last save, since these enemies live only here, and Milla cannot get here. These enemies are easy to miss!
- Roparde, one of the Devil's Beasts who lives in Old Vicalle Mine, can bring four types of enemies into battle: Filifreet, Filindine, Filisylph, Filignome. Initially, the boss has a weakness to one element and resistance to the opposite element. The boss will only summon enemies of the element to which he is resistant. The method is as follows: we wait for someone to be summoned, we kill the summons, we attack the boss with the element to which he has a weakness, the elemental affiliation of the boss (and the types of summons) change randomly, we repeat until we have farmed everyone. These enemies are easy to miss!
- After completing the game, in the postgame we go through the Magnus Zero dungeon (kill everything that moves)
- We fill the rest of the enemies in the arena, there are a huge number of unique enemies.
