How to unlock the Funnier Than a Burning Carnival achievement in The Cave - Definitive Guide
This is rewarded for finishing the Hillbilly's puzzle.
Quick step guide through the maze (beware of spoilers!) (without getting all the artworks! This is just the solution of the puzzle). Beware that the following two achievements can also be gotten in Hillbilly's puzzle:
I recommend working on these as early on as possible, because you will have to visit this puzzle multiple times.
- Dive with the Hillbilly through the water (using your special ability to breathe under water). Take the dynamite, light it and open the gate for your companions.
- Following the path. After you go by the teddybear discover your first ticket. Take it right away and insert it.
- Now go up the rope and take a left. Again up and up the ladders and onto the Ferris wheel. You will have to jump onto one of the rail cars.
- From this rail car jump to the right onto a ledge which has a fuse. Don't touch it yet! You will get electrified.
- Take another character. Also up the rope, also left. Now don't go left but keep going left (don't drop down to the wheel of misfortune yet). Up the ladder and up the pole. You will discover a screw wrench. Use it on the machine and switch instantely to your character by the fuse. Now you can take it!
- With the fuse in hand, jump down or ride the wheel down. Now go the utmost left and up another pole. Don't insert the fuse yet - you'll also get electrified.
- Switch to the character with the wrench and use it again on the machine.
- Insert the fuse with your other character.
- Now you can jump down and take that big sledgehammer.
- Take the sledgehammer all the way down again where you first climbed your rope up to the attractions.
- Now go to the left where you can use the sledgehammer on the high striker and get another ticket (take it and insert it)!
- The character who has the screw wrench should still be by that machine (!)
- Take another character (e.g. the one who used the sledgehammer) and have him go again to that fuse. Use the wrench on that machine and take the fuse.
- Now place that fuse into Xavetar, the fortune teller. He's all the way to the right of the Ferris wheel.
- Go get the Barbell (located between the Ferris wheel and Xavetar) and go to Xavetar again.
- Take your character with the wrench and go down the pole and again down to reach the wheel of misfortune (take the wrench with you, or better: go place it first on the bottom of the level and then go to the wheel of misfortune).
- Now, the trick is to activate Xavetar with one character and coordinating the colour he shows with the wheel of misfortune. So: Activate Xavetar, see what colour he shows (either red, green oder sometimes blue), switch to your other character, adjust the colour to the right respectively, turn the lever to hit the wheel and TADA... get a another ticket!
- Still two tickets left... The character who is still standing at Xavetar should have the Barbell. Go with him down, down and visit the magician.
- See how the magician makes the cupcake disappear? Afterwards, place the Barbell onto the table.
- Watch as he turns the Barbell invisible, but you can still take it! Do this and quickly go up and take a left. Step onto the weighing machine (with your invisible Barbell), hit the button and deceive the guesser. You win another ticket!
- Now for the last ticket... And for some work ahead. Take the Hillbilly and equip him with the wrench. On the bottom of the level go all the way to the left where you jump onto that platform (underneath is water). With another character hit that bell - the Hillbilly will fall into the water, revealing another ticket: BUT we're not done yet!
- Dive (and use your special ability) through that tunnel beneath you. At the end, use your screw wrench on that pipe.
- Dive back, use the ladder and take your last ticket.
- The following is easy. Take the teddy bear, get disappointed. Now go back. See the pocket lighter? Go on and take another ticket where you already found your first ticket. Use it and get the lighter.
- Light up some FIRE! (the firemen won't be able to extinguish it because you already blocked their water).
- Go back and watch everything burn. Now you can exit the level! :)
