How to unlock the Rational Mind achievement in The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope - Definitive Guide

There are several ways to accomplish this and I’ll detail a few depending on whether you’re playing Solo Theatrical Cut, Shared Story, or Solo Curator’s Cut. All of these involve making sure to pick only the head decisions as John as this is the best way to prevent him from believing in the supernatural.

Solo Theatrical:
- Head decisions only
- Have Andrew gets the gun and keep it.
- Make sure Angela survives her encounters with her demon and gets lost in the sewers.
- Don't even interact with the poppet in the museum.
- Once you get to the chapter “Low Point” and the group sees the “demon” in the distance, encourage Andrew to shoot. If done right, John should become rational at this point and the achievement will trigger.
- If you don't get it there, further into the chapter you'll play as Andrew and have to decide between helping Daniel or Taylor fight their demon. Select to help Daniel, but fail all the QTEs so that he dies. This will make it so you play as John later in spots you should've been Daniel.
- Once you get to "Ruined", upon being outside the factory, say to the group that you have to stop Mary and then select the "It might only be a theory, but it's all we've got" line as John. This line also provides a boost to the Rational trait that should unlock it if you didn't get enough previously.

Shared Story:
- Head decisions only
- Once you get to the museum where you play as John and Andrew, make sure the person playing as John select to leave the poppet alone rather than taking a look at it. This should be enough to make him rational and trigger the achievement.

Solo Curator’s Cut:
- Head decisions only
- Basically the same deal as above, except unlike the solo theatrical cut, you’ll be playing as John in the museum, so you can select to leave the poppet alone rather than avoiding it altogether.

Thanks for the guide. I can confirm if you do as he wrote it will pop after you shoot the Angela.

Excellent guide. Popped when Andrew started to shoot Angela. I even used a heart interaction on the bridge (going for Angela and John's relationship too). This also works on Movie Night, for anyone who is curious.

I believe if you decline the drink in the bar as John, the rational trait will also increase then.

Didn't work on either runs for me. Tried everything across multiple playthroughs. Even can see John's Rational trait in a large font hovering around his head.

Edit: managed to get this in curator's cut. All head decisions. Leave the doll as is. Kill Daniel, Taylor and Angela to go into the final scene with Andrew. Select both head options. Hope this helps someone else.

Also note that I had Rational showing as a trait in large font around John's head but it did not unlock the achievement until the final head dialogue option was chosen.

Follow the guide and hopefully it'll unlock sooner. So you don't have to do any of this.

Don't waste your time in curator mode, not enough information here to guarantee it. Now I need yet another playthrough ffs

I followed this for solo theatrical mode, and after Andrew shot Angela the "rational" trait popped up for John at the top of the screen, but the achievement did not unlock for me -_- In case anyone else is having trouble, keep playing beyond this point but I think you need to get Daniel killed to force more scenes playing as John. When Andrew has a choice between saving Daniel or Taylor, choose Daniel but then fail all the QTEs so he will die. (If you choose Taylor, Daniel will automatically save himself and live.) Then after the Reflections flashback, when you get to the factory you'll be playing as John...choose the head dialogue options and after saying the "it might only be a theory but it's all we've got" line the achievement finally popped for me there.

I did this in movie night, and focused on saving all characters for the “everyone lives” achievement. I also picked options that maximized relationship status between the characters. I also picked up the gun earlier in the game. That being said, when I got to the chapter “low point” where the achievement is supposed to unlock when you instruct Andrew to wait for a clear shot, the achievement didn’t pop for me. The solution is much simpler than just picking head decisions. Once the rational trait appears on John’s trait screen, the trait/achievement will unlock after you perform another rational action. The key to getting this achievement does indeed lie within the chapter low point, and I will tell you a simple way of how to do it.

When you begin the chapter, John will say that he needs to have a break. Shortly after, your first dialogue choice as John will be either a head or a heart choice. The key here is to pick (HEAD OPTION) *Practical - none of us is safe.* This will update your bearings for the authority figure section and update it as “John was practical with the others about the danger they were in”. At this point in time, If you check John’s character trait screen you should see Rational in the background floating in and out of visibility. Once you see that this trait has appeared, John will have to select two more dialogue options before the encounter with Angela. It’s important here that you select “SAY NOTHING” both times because if you select any heart or head options here the rational trait will disappear from John’s trait screen. From here, you will instruct Andrew to “wait for a clear shot” when the figure appears from the mist, the achievement will immediately pop as you’ve selected two rational options in a row.

I hope this helps with this extremely ambiguous achievement. I don’t think that anything you do as John before this point matters.

You should be able to get this during your Head playthrough; otherwise, aim to get it during your Save Everyone run. As the trophy suggests, avoid choices that steer towards believing something supernatural is happening, dismiss the paranoia and fear of the other characters, and you should get this by the time John and Andrew reach the museum, or while they're discussing the poppet, if you decide to interact with it.

Got the trophy when the arrow with the rationality trait appeared twice in the canon version:
1) at the bar he gave up drinking and got into all 3 mishes;
2) in the forest after church he told Edrew to take good aim

When you go through the game, choosing your mind, take the revolver, do not touch the doll in the museum, Angela should be alive, in the forest, when you escape from the church, we choose twice, the answers are with Mary, the last one says that Mary is evil, these two times will add more determination, and then we tell Andrew to take better aim and get the trophy

The hint is completely wrong. There is a whole gulf between these two decisions, and they themselves have no effect. I got it in the passage when I made a choice only with my mind. So

- Only decisions of the mind. In the bar after playing darts, you need to talk to Vince and ask about the phone.
- Andrew took the gun and kept it.
- Angela won all CTEs and survived the sewer.
- DO NOT interact with the doll.
- Tell Andrew to shoot when the group is in the forest.
-Later, you will have the choice to save Daniel or Taylor. Save Daniel, but defeat all the CTEs so that he dies. Then in future scenes it will be John instead.
- In the scene before you enter the factory, you will have a dialogue where you need to indicate that “Mary needs to be stopped” and then the line “It’s just a theory, but that’s all we have” will open.

I got the trophy at the last point, although according to reviews it should drop after the shot. It probably also sometimes affects which mind choices you make, because there is often a choice between two minds.

In fact, the trophy is obtained very simply, without a lot of unnecessary movements. You can combine it with a passage through the mind, or load a save with the mind and select the chapter “Lowest Point”. Conditions: decisions made by reason, Andrew took the gun, Angela survived her encounter with the demon. A doll in a museum can be burned; it does not affect the trophy. In the “Low Point” chapter, select all the left answers for John (maybe not necessarily, but just in case), including “Take good aim.” The trophy dropped immediately

I want to add to the top two. If you found the revolver earlier, tell Andrew to shoot. That's when it happened to me. And I burned the doll.

Yes, it was the same for me, but keep in mind that after this Angela will die and the gun will be thrown away. Therefore, you won't be able to die in the end.

Scene "Low Point", at the very beginning, as soon as Andrew takes aim, select "Instructions"
