How to unlock the Go with your gut achievement in The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan - Definitive Guide

As I (and many others apparently) find seeing the heart and brain symbols near impossible on some decisions (generally the ACTION ones), I did a bit of searching and came across this post on Reddit that steps through all the decisions:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ManOfMedan/comments/d1hrq0/go_with_...

However I found even this missed a couple of things, and did some unnecessary actions - in a lot of scenes, they will proceed automatically after a certain amount of time, so talking to people more often than you need just increases the risk you'll choose the wrong thing.

So I just did a run using the above as a basis and made some corrections and notes. Generally, other than where noted, choices and quicktime events do not matter, and in fact it's probably quicker for your playthrough to simply fail them when you can. Often there is no actual consequence, or it leads to a character death which is quicker than trying to continue. All of the "hold your breath" QTEs can be failed, and I recommend doing this.

IMPORTANT:

* When this says "Say Nothing" it means to CHOOSE TO SAY NOTHING. Do not let the conversation time out. You must specifically choose to say nothing.

* When it says "ACTION: Do Nothing", this means you have an action choice, and you MUST let it time out. Do not choose anything.

I hope it helps.

Joe: Dockside Market, Manchuria - 9:12 P.M. (Post World War II)

Curious: Tell me about my son
ACTION: Choose Dragon Tile

Brad: Duke of Milan, French Polynesia - 8:30 A.M. (Present Day)

Uneasy: That’s not the coastguard...
Confident: Be quiet and let me handle it
Worried: We’ve got divers in the water!

Alex: Main Deck - 2:18 A.M. (June 21)

Worried: It’s probably just rats

Doesn't matter what you do with Brad and Fliss, I just rushed through Brad's bit and let Fliss' scene time out. UPDATE: There have been a few comments saying that this isn't actually true and what you do here matters. Alternative: "...for the Brad and Fliss part, let Brad grab the mask and leave Fliss in the ballroom for about 7 mins to trigger the cutscenes, the rest will match...". Thanks 青岛丶OGGamer and sorry for the problems people had with this part.

During the Heart decisions only play-through, you cannot get "Girl's Night Out" (for saving just the girls) as Julie will not decompress with heart options, and die at the end. And you cannot get "Right there with ya, boys" (for saving just the boys) as heart options will kill Conrad and Brad. So don't even waste your time doing Conrad's QTE while being chased by the bombshell girl, because 'Jump' is a heart option, and 'Confront' is a head option.
Might be able to get the 'kill everyone' ending, but I thought I'd be able to save all the boys.

You say it doesn't matter what we do as Brad or Fliss at the halfway point, but your walkthrough assumes a specific outcome. I had Brad kill Fliss and then the rest of your walkthrough was different to the choices I got. I chose every heart option and said nothing when there wasn't one, and the achievement did not pop for me at the end.

Now I'm forced to go back and start from the Brad alone chapter and try to recreate your playthrough, but it would be a hell of a lot easier if you actually told us what you did.

Guide Works, for the Brad and Fliss part, let Brad grab the mask and leave Fliss in the ballroom for about 7 mins to trigger the cutscenes, the rest will match the option above.

The part where the guide tells you to "do whatever with Brad and Fliss" should be updated. Certain choices in these sections could cause Brad to die.

Thanks for the guide, works great. Did just want to point out though, that if you make sure Julia decompresses properly early in the game, then following this guide will also net you the achievement "Girls' Night Out" for saving only the women (as long as right at the end, you have Alex stab his rat hallucination in his own stomach too). So if there's a way to decompress properly without choosing a "head" option (honestly not sure if it is), you could knock out an extra achievement.

Worked great for me, thanks. Weirdly it did say player 2 had chosen the most head decisions after the first segment (movie night mode). Carried on and still got the achievement, so I'd advise to carry on if it says a player did most head choices.

The most head choice thing is just because there aren’t an even amount of choices in P1 vs P2 because of how the game splits it. So they’ll always have more

This worked like a charm. Thank you. Also as a note to future readers, don't panic if you're positive you didn't choose a wrong option but the little recap card says you picked the most head options. This popped up for me after the Conrad death interlude. So I was panicking. But it all worked out in the end. :)

I just wanted to inform you that there's now an indicator for this achievement. If you have successfully chosen only one type of decision, a brief message will state so when the game is paused.

Thanks Spangles21 for that info. I just spotted the same thing where it said that player 2 had the most head choices. Wasn't sure if I should continue, but I'll go though with it now after reading your comment.

Update: It didn't unlock at the end. It said player 2 had most head choices after every single act.

I did this on curator mode so that works as well, I messed up on intrusion, after finishing the game I just reloaded that chapter. I kept choosing heart if there wasnt any then say nothing. YOU DO NOT NEED TO START OVER. If you mess up, make a note of the chapter, which if you quit after should say when u go to continue. Finish game then chapter select from there until end and you will get it

If a conversation doesn't take place then you can't be punished for it. Some guides recommend killing of pple whenever possible to lessen conversations.

I did this but it didn't unlock. The TA Walkthrough suggests not to do anything when making a choice and letting the timer run out. I 100% know I picked heart decisions the whole way through. Really annoying since it's about 2-3 hours per attempt at this and it's very hard to see the dialogue choice symbol sometimes, with no way to tell if you messed up.

Fourth attempt. Picked every single heart option and if there was 2 head options I said nothing on dialogue options, and let the timer run out for choices with 2 head options. What am I doing wrong, this is insanely boring. The game was only ok so playing it about 8 times over to complete this is getting on my nerves

Other guides say to "say nothing" and NOT to let the timer run out or else it will default and pick a head choice?

I picked "say nothing" during 2 heart DIALOGUE choices on my head playthrough and that unlocked first try.

Just unlocked this achievement. Was lucky got it first go. Would like to confirm ...if there's 2 heads and no hearts, don't let it time out, choose "say nothing" you can fail qte's I had Conrad die just before he should have by failing the qte. You must let it time out on actions if no heart shows.

Yes. But remember where you screwed up, as you can reload that chapter after finishing. You must still finish the game tho, as that's the only way to get chapter select.

Thank you for the answer! did two playthroughs for each option and I am 100% sure I chose head/heart all the time. said nothing when there was just one option. also, I let the qte for one option fail and I didn't get it at the end! will try again this time letting time run out instead of "say nothing" and kill off characters to reduce gameplay time. will let you know If It worked

I always went for " say nothing" if I was doing hearts and only heads showed. I only let it time out on actions. With dialogue the game will choose an answer if u let it time out. Go for say nothing on dialogue, and let actions time out. Good luck!

I assume in the chapters where you can optionally for talk to people (and they have a heart choice in there probably), you don’t Have to go find them and talk?
It is only get all the heart choices for conversations that actually take place?

And also therefore failing a QTE that leads to someone dying before they would (Conrad at top of tower has a heart choice, but could just kill him as he’s running..?), that won’t affect it as you are missing a potential heart choice but it never actually came..

By Drazer76 on 22 Aug 2020 20:19
I failed the qte at the top of the ladder with Conrad. Meaning he fell to his death before I could have taken the next choice jump. I still got it. As long as all the choices up until they die are hearts you should be fine.

I can confirm the QTEs are NOT relevant to this achievement at all. barely did any QTE right and killed off characters as much as I could. unlocked at the end perfectly. I did it on movie night If that's worth anything

The weird thing, I’m now doing my heart play through.
And it’s in movie night. So it comes up with stats as you play.
And it says, player one has chosen the most head choices - yet all I’ve done is hearts..

Then hopefully I can do a shared story and all head together too.
Get my last four achievements in two plays, quick as possible.

In the interest of helping others I decided to pick a chapter towards the end of my playthrough to experiment. Where it had two head options for dialogue I chose an option. I did this multiple times from the distress chapter knowing I could reload things if need be. The achievement still popped.

Obviously if there is a heart option you MUST pick that one but it gave me lots more options for playing out the story this way.

For this achievement you must complete the game with only heart decisions. Start a new game and make sure that you choose the one that has a heart symbol in each decision.
It is sometimes difficult to see.
Sometimes there are situations where you have two head options. If you have this situation you must say nothing. If you just let the time run out, you can start over the game. Whenever you have the opportunity, you must select the heart symbol.
If you don't say anything even though you have a heart symbol, the achievement is also gone and you can start again. As soon as the advertising for Little Hope starts, the achievement should come.

I saw so many people doing a lot of playthroughs and not getting the achievement, unfortunately some of them are hard to see sometimes (this happened for me first time after Julia prepared the tank on the boat, had a heart choice while talking to Alex after he forget about the CO2 thing there’s a heart choice and is "Playful" the left one choice)

You can get this achievement by choosing only the heart option, if there's no heart option pick "Say Nothing" This happen even when youre picking something (or ungag someone on the intrusion chapter), they have brain and heart options too so if there's only brain options let the time run out

If you chose the wrong option (by letting the timer run out or chosen a brain option) REMEMBER there's no way back because the game save after every single choice you make in the game, since you started a new game you can't open the chapter select. you have to end the game to use it. So pay attention on the game and be careful

You have to chose all heart options, so you must reach at the end of the game to chose all avaliable choices

You dont need to succeed all Heartbeat QTE (in my run when i got this i failed all them, so its fair to fail them)

succeed all QTE (the X, Y, A, B ones) to avoid some character of dying
I suggest to turn on the Quick Time Event Infinite Timer on accessibility
I failed only the QTE to pick the distributor cap when the rats try to jump on you

If you followed all correctly you should end the game with Alex and Fliss alive
- Julia dying by decompression sickness
- Brad dying by not answering Julio’s questions
- Conrad dying by jumping the edge of a metal plank after running out the "Sailor Lady"

You should get the achievement after the credits when the "Little Hope" trailer starts

To get this trophy, just choose all the HEART options, during dialogues or during QTEs (for example, running or waiting). Heart options are the ones with the heart in the background. When you see it, use rs.png to move the arrow on the decision you want to do. If there are no heart options, just move the arrow where it says "Say nothing", or if you are in a QTE, just let the timer go out.

You don't need to have all the dialogue, so feel free to skip some of them.

This trophy can be paired with Like that movie with the ship trophy_bronze.png, but since that trophy is bugged, you can get this only at the end and with the downgrade.

Select all the answers that you come across in the game with the “heart” sign
If there is no “heart” sign among the answers, choose “remain silent”

Please note that it is important not only to choose answers with the image of a heart, but also actions, they are in circles, for example, run left or right or choose one or another chip at the beginning of the game from the seer, and if both options are with the image of a brain, then we do nothing .

Attention! The trophy is affected only by your choices in dialogues and in moments where you need to choose an action from two options! Choices from the "moral principles" category do not affect the trophy! The main thing is to always choose the heart/brain where needed, or choose to remain silent if the desired option is not available.

There is an easy way to check if the achievement is broken

During the game, the menu says - When choosing, you, as a rule, were guided by your heart . The inscription disappears if you select a brain somewhere

If you make a mistake, go to “Scene Selection” in the main menu. All chapters must have only a heart in the background. If the heart and brain, then the achievement is failed. We need to replay from the chapter where only the heart ceased to be.

When choosing lines or actions, you need to choose the “heart” symbol. When there is no “heart”, you can choose “brain” or remain silent.

The clue is incorrect. In one place there was a choice between the brain and the brain, namely on a yacht before diving under water, when I had to choose whether to take a camera with me under water or talk to a girl, I chose the camera. For the rest of the game I chose the heart; at the end of the game the trophy did not fall out. Therefore, if there is no heart in the choice, then do not choose anything.
