How to unlock the Last Man Standing achievement in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Definitive Guide

You can earn this achievement even if you "die" simply continue without earning points for the leaderboards and it will still pop.

Also after each match even if you fail it will still increase your character level, so keep leveling up until maxed on your way to level 35. (Note: You will NOT earn the separate achievement for hitting level 35 doing this unfortunately; also you cannot earn the "miser: 10k orens" here either.)

I think the key even with this method is making sure you get Quen (shield sign)maxed and Dodge(footwork?) maxed , plus (parry, riposte, and whirl )amongst your other choices.

FAQ:
1.Arena is found under "start new game" (not extras)
2.There is NO saving. You must grind out those 5/30 rounds in one sitting.
3.You CAN earn these on "easy"

XXX

As a side note on the humans mostly and small nekkers; especially in the beginning stages, maneuver them to the edge and use Aard and you can blow them out of the arena sometimes - it's hilarious. *(Sometimes on armored dudes you have to soften them for awhile) You can do this in game in a few places too, especially defending Vergen's wall on Ilovth's path, time it when they are about 40% of body showing and blow them right off the ladder, or just blow them off the wall while fighting after they get up.

I haven't even tried this yet. Is this a different game mode? Are there difficulty settings? I plan to look over it after my Dark mode playtrhough of the game, but ones like this always seem like they'll be the hardest to get. It's not multiplayer, is it?

Under start new game there should be an option called "arena" There are achievements for completeing 5 rounds and 30 rounds; it is single player.

Okay, I just started. I see four difficulty levels. Are all 30 rounds available in Easy? Also, I don't see Save on the menu. Does progress auto-save?

It is worth noting that no achievements besides the 2 for arena mode will unlock here. I killed an enemy with his own arrow (reflected) and no achievement :-(

Since there is no saving in the arena area, how long does it take to get the 30 wins on average? I haven't played the game yet so I don't have a sense of how long each battle would take.

I just want to let people know that the helpers you hire stay with you from round to round until they die, so it's actually a really good investment to buy the knight for 500 orens. Everything focuses on him and you can swing away at their backs. I didn't get him until about the 20th fight and I had so much money did didn't matter any more and then he only died once in the final 10 fights, so for 1000 or 1500 orens I bet you could keep him for all 30 fights.

This is an excellent guide. You should have put the Quen Sign in bold as that is the key. Not only does it protect you and damage enemies it also makes them flinch. This opens most enemies up for major beatings. +1

Omg I was making this way harder for myself...thought you had to do the whole thing without dying facepalm The guide for winning 5 rounds didn't mention whether it still counts if you continue after dying. Thanks for clarifying!

The Arena is a optional mini-game that can be found under "New Game" in the main menu. To win this acheivement you must win 30 rounds of fighting against various groups of enemies. The achievement will pop as soon as you defeat the 30th round (1 Draug, 6 Draugir).

You do NOT need to win 30 times consecutively, if you lose a round, you can still continue, you just no longer earn points towards the leaderboards. However, you cannot save in this mode, so all 30 wins must come in the same sitting. (This probably took less than 2 hours)

After winning each fight you are given a choice of 3 rewards (weapons, armor, mutagens, etc), plus some orens. Win or Lose, you also earn one character level at the end of each fight.

Hints & Tips:

- Play on Easy, as difficulty does not affect the achievement.

- Before entering the arena, inspect the available rewards and compare them against your current equipment, so you know which to choose ahead of time.

- When choosing rewards, try to maintain a balanced group of equipment but focus on upgrades to the steel sword early and then the silver sword later as you will fight more human enemies in the early rounds and more monster enemies in the later stages. See a list of rounds here: http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/The_Witcher_2_Arena

- As far as skills go, I focused on the vigor skills in the training path (2 in vigor regen, 1 parrying, 2 Fortitude, 1 Hardiness) and then got Level III Aard sign right away - being able to push away lots of enemies is extremely important. Following that, I pushed into the swordsmanship tree: Feet work, to dodge farther; Whirl, to damange adjacent opponents; and then 2 levels of invincible, finesse, combat acumen and whirlwind will make you a beast of a witcher. After that I would recommend going back to Magic and getting 2 levels of Magical Vigor and Enhanced Igni Sign.

- If you have trouble with one of the fights, you can buy some potions at the store (to the left of the arena entrance) and then hire one of the 3 companions as a decoy. (human knight is probably the best). Potions will last multiple fights, if you're fast enough.

From my experience, you have to be a little bit more careful at the beginning but you will quickly get equipment that far outclasses anything the enemies can bring (around the time you get the Kayran Carapace Armor, or similar), after that your best bet is really to just mash the attack buttons as fast as possible and use the Aard sign if you get trapped between a bunch of enemies.

Read the full guide as it has a lot of great tips to aid you in completing the arena

You can die as many times as you want it doesn't disable the achievement however your leaderboard stops there.

Put it on easy and upgrade your magic.

Look at what sword you have steel/silver and remember its hit points so that when you want to get a new sword for winning you know that your upgrading/degrading

You can earn up to 35 Talent points that you can put towards your abilities If you want you could just lose 35 time as you rank up every time you return to the arena quarters.

Upgrade one of each of the top paths by just one so that you can unlock the paths below

Remember upgrade accordingly If you want to go the magic path then you should upgrade your AXII If a talent is lame obviously dont double upgrade it

Sometimes the more of the map you unlock the more mutagens you can place to aid you even further

ALWAYS TAKE THE MUTAGENS AS THEY DONT SHOW UP ALWAYS unless theres something too beast to pass up

I upgraded the sword path just to get the extra armor points

I never upgraded any of the alchemy path

Armor is very important and remember to pay attention to what your armor defense value is no reason to accept a gauntlet that gives +Def when you already have one

Weight shouldn't be a problem but if it is you can drop your lame starting items... I was searching in the arena for a place where you can sell those items but I never found anything if there is someone please post

If your having trouble with a arena you can always hire a mage, a knight, or a troll to help you

I only hired someone on the arena that has like 8 Elementals or golems?
as a distraction

STRATEGY
run in circles around the camp fires use the campfires to separate or get your enemies stuck to give you some room.

When running use your magic as you earn them it takes long but its a sureFIRE way to kill everything without dying

If your about to die or got hit by some poison/fire you can use your (I cant think of the spells name someone post in the comments for update) the spell that protects you from harm... although when the spell is active you cannot earn any magic

Some armors have special attributes with them that might increase your magic power or your hit power these are important to watch because they really do aid in killing.

This is a completely separate mode from the main game (not to be confused with the Kaedwini arena, which has its own achievement). It is started at the main menu under New Game selection. There are actually much more than thirty rounds, but round thirty is the highest you must reach in terms of the achievements. You start at level one, but you will level up in between rounds, earning a talent point for every wave completed. As you complete the waves, you can pick what you're reward is going to be (armor, weapon, enhancement, or mutagen). I personally didn't bother with the mutagens or the enhancement, and I only picked the armor when it started offering +20 protection, and once you get one chest piece that has those stats, I recommend that you keep picking the weapons. My Steel Sword did around 55 damage, and my silver sword did around 38, so I'd suggest using that as a template for how you select your gear.

Some tips or things to consider:

  • Don't bother with the Alchemy skill tree. Focus on upgrading Quen, Igni, and Vigor in the magic tree. Then focus on vitality, damage reduction, dodge distance, group finishers (!!!), etc.
  • Don't buy a helper every round, if at all. They usually tend to get themselves cornered and killed very quickly.
  • Set the difficulty on easy (it's still somewhat challenging towards the end, so don't punish yourself if you don't need to).
  • You can die as many times as you need until you complete around. I died on round 22 and 30 (the hardest ones) and still got the achievement. The only thing dying does is stopping you from earning leaderboard points, which aren't required for any achievements.

The orens and talent points you earn here do NOT count towards the "Miser" and "Guru" achievements, respectively. Furthermore, you can not earn any combat related achievements (deflecting arrow for a kill, for example) in the arena. These achievements must be completed in the main story.

Once you complete round thirty, you will unlock your achievement.
