How to unlock the Blue, white and Red achievement in Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Definitive Guide
The description for this achievement should be clear enough on which colour scheme to create. If not, please have a look on the Wikipedia page about this flag: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_France
The tricky part about this achievement is that you need to colour all 12 pieces connecting Paris and Marseille in the tricolored French Flag. The description states that you should be 'building three routes', but this seems to be incorrect. This is what my game looked like when the achievement popped mid-game:
The achievement should pop directly after you gave a colour to the final part your tricolored railway. For me it popped before I even laid a single piece of track, so winning the game does not look a necessity. Also, as commented by Pandaman822 you are apparently required to lay down every piece of the coloured railway tracks yourself. If your opponent places one of the tracks in a colour that by coincidence matches the colour needed, it will not count towards your achievement. I can however not confirm this.
A few tips I can give is to make sure you are playing with (at least) three opponents. If you play the game with two opponents or just one you will be unable to make use of the multi-tracks, therefor being unable to give them any colour.
A tip given by user 'alhil' on the Steam community was to play the game against 3 C. Huntingbots. This user wrote that C. Huntington will prefer to go for the smaller routes, putting less stress on you. Also make sure to only draw new cards each turn. You are not allowed to add some colour to a piece of railway on the map if you just placed some trains. Besides, you do not need to claim the route whatsoever to get the achievement!
The most important thing is, is to get as many routes as you can to be part of, or completely locked in the route between Paris and Marseille. By having a 'monopoly' on this part of the map you can improve your chances of one of your opponents suddenly laying claim on your big plan. Some routes that are recommended to have:
- La Havre to Marseille
- Paris to Lyon
- Paris to Marseille
- Paris to Nice
But some routes that are also quite likely to mess your route up, especially in the stack of your opponents, are:
- Amiens to Montpeilier
- Diyon to Grenoble
- Diyon to Montpeilier
- Lille to Diyon
- Metz to Perpignan
- Nancy to Marseille
- Rouen to Grenoble
- Suisse to Marseille
Keep restarting until you have as many as possible from above list to give yourself the best chances on meeting the requirements needed for this achievement. This is mainly because your opponents will have a minimum of 30 turns (depending on which player gets the first turn) to transform your idea in some other colour scheme. In my achievement-winning game I was lucky to start my game with these routes:
- Amiens to Montpeilier
- La Havre to Marseille
- Nancy to Marseille
What also helped me is to try to figure out as soon as possible what cities your opponent's tickets might contain. In this way you could be one step ahead of colouring the pieces of track while he is placing trains on another part of his route.
The order I choose for the colours on the track were mostly based on my own deck of cards. After 3 turns I had 4 blue cards, 2 white and no red ones. This indicated that the chances were greatest that (one of) my opponents has/have more red cards than blue cards. By assuming this I started to add colour to some tracks, starting with the colour I had the least of, in this case being red. The train of thought (pun intended) was that any opponent might be more likely to simply place trains on an already coloured red route when the correct cards needed are present in their deck instead of giving it any other colour.
One last tip, if you play on Windows 10 and not on your Xbox, make sure to know what you are planning mouse-wise. The map zooms in when you are hovering with a left-mouse-click, followed by a tiny move. For example when you are attempting to colour the middle track white but want to be precise. This happened to me, and given that it was my 10th coloured track I was not happy to have to start over! :')
Apart from these tips, this achievement is still heavily based on luck. I hope I could share some tips to make the set-up the most promising towards getting this achievement!

I can confirm. The ai cannot build on your tracks otherwise it will void the achievement.
