How to unlock the You are the Trackmaster achievement in Trackmania - Definitive Guide
Important Disclaimer: Though this achievement (and its contemporaries) is possible to obtain with Starter Access, doing so will take a minimum of around 5 years if you’re starting the grind for this now. I would highly recommend getting a year of Club Access so that you can play the old campaigns and actively grind this out; you’ll keep all campaign maps that were available when your subscription ends so you’ll have no need to renew it.
PSA: It appears that there’s an issue where Author medals (or any really, in both campaigns and Tracks of the Day) are not counted towards this achievement for whatever reason. If this does happen Wyyvern found that restarting their console (after restarting the game to no avail, you might need to do both) and getting another medal of the same type fixed the tracking. I personally have found that the game does eventually resync the missed medals to the tracker after getting another one of the appropriate medal type so you shouldn’t need to go over 200 Author medals even if there’s a couple that don’t initially track and you don’t elect to do any shenanigans to quickly fix it.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
For the uninitiated, Author medals are functionally identical to Trackmaster medals in "Turbo": they’re a fourth, secret medal available on every track that is obtained via beating the author’s best time when they were validating the track. The Author times are also hidden without plugins (which console users cannot use as they aren’t a part of the game itself).
Making a guide that goes into the specifics of how to beat 200 Author times/ATs (12.5 per campaign as of Spring 2024) is a dumb idea for a lot of reasons so this’ll mainly be a general and comprehensive guide instead.
First, the Author times. Though they are not visible in-game, they have all been documented in third-party sites. For campaign tracks I would recommend Trackmania.io (you’re FAR better off using the Author Tracker for Tracks of the Day) to check them; from the link press the ‘View’ button next to the campaign you want to see the ATs of, they’ll be right next to their respective map. For new campaigns the ATs should be visible within a couple hours of the campaign launch at most.
Secondly, tricks. Jnic has made an excellent video detailing several techniques that can be used to get faster times and also for dealing with ice (which you are probably going to have to deal with for a good while in some capacity to pop this). I will also pop in some additional notes below that the video doesn’t cover. Note that apart from gears feel free to completely ignore the Advanced tricks.
In regards to new campaigns your best bet in that regard is to check a Campaign Discovery video, which have a professional player smash through an entire campaign’s ATs. Searching ‘Campaign Discovery Trackmania’ (with the name of the new campaign in question) should get you a relevant video of the ilk I’ve described but if it doesn’t, check the channels titled ‘WirtualTV’ or ‘Scrapie’; they typically upload those the day the new campaign is live.
For the remaining three campaigns my recommendation - as stupid as it sounds - is to check the WRs for those campaigns. Not nearly as helpful as Xmilek’s guides as you can’t see the inputs of the players and they take far risker lines than necessary for the Author medal but they do still give a decent idea on how to beat the AT in addition to taking some shortcuts that may be worth using. You can find those here: https://www.youtube.com/@Trackmania2020WorldRecords/playlist...
Finally, this is basically a warning block. First, ice tracks. It is not recommended to try to get an Author medal on an ice-heavy track that was released before the Winter 2023 campaign. Reason for that is due to community shenanigans ice was made much slower to drive on in a late-October 2022 patch. You can still beat the AT on (afaik) all of these maps - especially with the Summer 2023 patch that sped up driving on ice - but you may find it more beneficial to skip them and do other tracks for ATs. If it’s a bobsleigh-heavy track however you should avoid it at all costs. I’ve found them to be incredibly obnoxious and miserable to drive even with decent knowledge of where my car should be angled in the lead-up to a bobsleigh and simply not worth the effort.
Secondly, AT difficulty. You would assume that as one gets into older and older campaigns the difficulty to get Author medals would get easier, right? Yes until you reach Summer 2021, at which point the AT difficulty gets pretty inconsistent in difficulty for no apparent reason. There’s a fair amount of relatively easy ATs in these campaigns (Summer 2020 even has a couple Black tracks that I found had pretty doable ATs) but there’s also ones like 03 and 04 in Spring 2021 that are way harder than you would expect for a White track. What is less inconsistent however, is the quality of these campaigns, which is to say, they have some really stinking shit in there that makes track 51 in "Turbo" look like a masterpiece. I cannot stress enough how terrible the flow on some of them are. Try to get a decent buffer (at least ~5 tracks if you can) on you heading into those campaigns in relation to the average AT rate per campaign if you can to allow yourself to skip a decent amount of these tracks.
Lastly, though this is a bit of an early call, this is likely going to be harder than getting every Gold medal in "Turbo’s" campaign, as that simply requires you to not crash and take decent lines for every track, while this will require heavy optimisation of a lot of tracks and likely little if any contact with walls, let alone crashing. [Edit (27/6/23): I take this back, mainly because of the absurd difficulty spike in Black Valley in conjunction with tracks getting added over time.] This is a lot easier than getting every Trackmaster medal in "Turbo’s" campaign due to tracks in this game being easier than ones found there + the ability to pick and choose the maps you want to get ATs on if that helps give some confidence but expect this to take a good month or so to grind out unless if you’re very good at the game or solely focus on this.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got. Good luck, have fun, don’t let the (landing) bugs bite, and remember, if you’re struggling, try harder.
P.S Afaik it is not possible to race your friends normally like in "Turbo". You can do it but it would require you all to have purchased Club Access and join the same club iirc. This is less of a problem now that Standard Access is gone and Club Access has had its price slashed, but I wouldn’t recommend getting Club Access for just that. If you’re grabbing it for Tracks of the Day or whatever though knock yourself out.
P.S.S Would recommend checking Rotcat’s guide if you want a general map rundown, though as a note I doubt his suggested loophole in regards to accessing the older campaigns works for getting this achievement.
P.S.S.S Not gonna add any to this guide but if you want feel free to add some recommended maps to go for or avoid in the comments below.

Additional tips:
- It is recommended to skip tracks that have the Snow or Rally Cars in them. The ATs on those tracks are perfectly doable, but it requires spending a couple hours to learn each car to get to a sufficient level to hunt ATs, which obivously isn’t exactly productive if you’re specifically hunting for the completion. If you’re willing to take your time with that though feel free to ignore this suggestion.
- To do smooth steering you’ll need to move your driving stick at an angle instead of fully to the right or left, otherwise you’ll slide out
- When you need to make a jump try to make the angle as gradual as possible, a strong shift to the right or left when initiating an air jump is gonna give you a big slowdown upon landing while a little to either direction will maintain that speed
- On dirt, grass, and plastic, you can initiate what’s (apparently) known as a grass slide for 180-degree corners on the aforementioned surfaces. This requires you to, on a jump, turn your car to the side, and while moving the car in the direction the car is facing, hold the throttle button (let go of it once the car is sideways to avoid initiating the slide too early). You’ll know you did it right if don’t slide out. For most tracks this is irrelevant. However, it is required if you want the AT on Fall 2021 16 and Summer 2021 07. An example can be found here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/7023717154889400....mov
- In regards to wood, make sure that you move the car’s direction loosely and with caution. Any car (and especially the Stadium Car) can get VERY fast on that surface, making it really easy to crash
- Ice sliding with the Snow Car involves simply holding the left stick in the direction you are facing
- Ice sliding with the Rally Car is mostly identical to doing so with the Snow Car, but the Rally Car cannot be facing 90 degress to the right or left, otherwise you’ll slide out
In regards to new campaigns your best bet in that regard is to check a Campaign Discovery video, which have a professional player smash through an entire campaign’s ATs. just do all the White, green and blue ones first. they're all fairly easy. just skip all the ice maps. it's not worth the trouble. should be about 190 tracks that are all easily obtainable.

Are you the trackmaster?
First we need to determine which version of the game you have: the free version, the standard version (€10 per year), or the club version (€30 per year / €60 per 3 years).A short summary of what which version means to you regarding this achievement:
*Now most of you will probably deal with the free version as it has also been advertised as a free game. The question now is: can I only play the 25 campaign maps per 90 days with the free version? The answer to that is no, at least I'm not sure yet, but there are great chances that you will be able to play more campaigns than you thought you could for this achievement without having to pay.
There is a site called Trackmania.Exchange, on which you can find almost all maps, and also those of Nadeo (the developer of the game and publisher of the campaigns) are uploaded to it. Now the developer has “integrated” this site into the game for the console release.
So what you need to do is log in/create an account on Trackmania.Exchange with your Ubisoft Connect account. Once done you can go to the TrackmaniaExchange's home screen -> Maps -> Nadeo Maps – below you will find all maps of Nadeo, including all campaign maps. You can then click on a folder and add it to your favorites
When this is done you can find the relevant map in your local maps -> favorites and you can play it, also here you can simply earn the corresponding medals (bronze, silver, gold and author).
However, this is just a theory, I need someone to confirm this for me, as I've already unlocked the achievement: try this out with a previous campaign if you have the free version of the game, and earn at least bronze on two new campaign maps you've never played before. If the tracker adds 1%; chapeau, the paywall can be bypassed; the same applies to the 90 TOTD author medals in that case.
Q: How can you best approach these 200 author medals?
The campaign is made up of 5 levels: white; green; blue; red and black. Each color closer to black equates to an increase in difficulty and in recent campaigns also an increase in length/time of a maps (in older campaigns 2020/2021 it was more all over the place). In short, you want to avoid the black maps as much as possible.
Fortunately, this is also possible, because there are currently 300(!) campaign maps (12 campaigns x25 maps). If we remove the most difficult ones from each campaign, the blacks, we still have 240 possible maps left.
But, there is another problem: ice maps, because ice has been patched in October 2022, which means the campaigns before the fall 2022 campaign have been made more difficult because ice and bobsleigh have become slower. The author medals are not impossible, but still, save yourself the trouble and avoid/skip the map if it is a full ice map. From my own experience, this was about 15 maps (I didn't keep track of it exactly, but I certainly skipped a few).
At the time of writing, there are still 225 maps left to choose from. That's 25 maps more than you need, if you don't understand a map, or it takes way too long (most likely this will occur in the red maps) to get the author medal, don't hesitate and just skip this one - it's possible, and it allowed. In addition, this achievement becomes easier with time, the more campaigns there are, the larger the pool of possible author medals.
Q: How do I know the of time I need for the Author's Medal?
Go to trackmania.io -> campaigns -> click on the relevant “official” campaign and below you will see the required author time per map of this seasonal campaign.
Q: I have the free version / standard version but I want to know what the optimal lines are
Simply type in “trackmania [season] [year] [track number] world record” on YouTube and you will see a video from the “Trackmania 2020 World Records” profile for that track. When a new campaign is releases, it takes about 2 weeks before the first videos will be uploaded.
Q: Which camera is best to use?
I myself prefer camera 2, but because this is about discovering as much of the track as possible as quickly as possible, I recommend camera 1 (the slightly higher camera), with this you can better see the height differences and in general the is track better to see this way.
Finally I would like to give you some tips, however, there are more than enough tutorials online about the 3 most important things for this achievement: dirfts, noslides and gears - look up some videos of these and I wish wish you all the success, and important; take your time, because the longer you spend on this achievement, the easier it becomes due to the enlargement of the pool of maps. Happy hunting

I couldn't thank more for tonyx, GAZZ16, Rotcat and ChiflaGoodluck for their guides. Really.
The bold tracks are the ones I consider to be the hardest ones on each campaign. The underlined tracks are the easiest ones, and the Italic ones are the ones that contains skips, just like I've done on my solution on the Ghost Buster achievement in Trackmania Turbo.
If you want to know the skips search for the World Record on each map, or just a run on the Author medal on youtube.
I might include more tracks in the future for specific campaigns like Spring, Winter 2021 & Summer 2021 since those campaigns were the last ones I've done, and explains the low number of tracks.
I will update this guide when the next campaigns are out and include the tracks I've got the Author Medal.
Anyways, those are the tracks I've done for this achievement (thanks tonyx and GAZZ16 once again):

If you are looking for the author times, check out the website https://www.trackmania.io/ and hit 'Campaign', between CotD and Club Rooms. The first 15 campaigns that are appearing are the official ones you're looking for.
If you're struggling with a track, I'd highly recommend watching Xmilek62's guides on every track for the Author medal post Fall 2021 campaign. If you're struggling with tracks on campaigns before Fall 2021, I'd recommend watching a World Record or just a Author medal run. I watched StigmataGames author runs videos for those tracks.

This is one of two trophies that have the potential to stop a platimum run in it's tracks (along with Daily Trackmaster ). The author medal is awarded for beating the time set by the creator of the track (author time, AT), and is genereally several seconds faster than the gold time. Unfortunately, there is no way to see what this time is on console, however there are multiple places online these can be found. The official Trackmania website shows the times, but you have to click each track individually to see the time. The unaffiliated site, trackmania.io also shows the author times, but all on the same page in a single campaign. Both sites will track your times if you are playing the most recent campaign and logged into Ubisoft.
Despite the difficulty of this trophy, the good news is that it gets incrementally easier every 3 months with the release of a new campaign. When the game released on consoles, Spring 2023 was live, which meant there were 300 tracks eligible for this trophy (25 per season since the game released on PC in Summer 2020).
Each campaign consists of 5 tracks of each colour (white, green, blue, red and black) that increase in difficulty. As of release day, you would need to get the author time on an average of around 17 tracks per campaign to get this trophy, but for every 3 months that passes from 1 July 2023 that goes down by about 1 track. It doesn't make the task easy, but it does make it easier than it was.
As for getting the times themselves, practice is the real key. Trackmania has some pretty unique techniques required to be fast, so watch guides online (see the guide intro), practice, watch some more videos about perfect lines on specific tracks, and practice again.
One additional thing that may help is this google sheet that I created. It contains all of the author times for every campaign since the game released on PC. Simply make a copy of it (File > make a copy) and save it to your own drive. From there, you can add in your times for each track and the sheet will tell how far away from the AT in both seconds and percentage. This will help you decide whether to bother chasing the time on that track or to move on. Once you do beat the AT, the difference column will turn green and the counter at the top of the sheet will go up by one.
For reference, here is a matrix showing the first 200 tracks completed by the guide author. Some are more difficult than others and there may be others that individual players find achievable. Most importantly, remember that there will be 25 new tracks every three months that will include several relatively easy ATs.
